You know you've found a great thrift store when they offer daily sales, deals, you can buy popcorn, and they have to remodel to thwart theft. It is very well organized and the clothes doesn't smell, so that's really all I ask with these types of places. I found a dress from brand new chic store Charming Charlie-most of which just opened in Tampa within the last couple months- with tags on it reading 39.99. I happily took it up front to buy thinking I could no longer try it on because they had closed the back dressing rooms down due to theft. Upon walking up I was told the front rooms were open, and also that the dress was on sale for half off. They accept credit/debit as well. Four dollars later I was off to a Yelp event in the same plaza happy as could be! read more

Took it to the register and George, the guy checking me out said it was "mispriced" and then tried to mark it up to 3x the price that it was marked. No thanks!!! Bait and switch at its finest... A good-sized store that is kept neat and orderly. Prices are low and good variety of clothes. Not much on furniture. Benefits St. Joe's Children's Foundation and Metro Ministries and can send a truck for pickup. read more

Not impressed with the merchandise or management here. They seem to think they are an online retailer - not a thrift store - and price everything accordingly. They print out prices from eBay and Poshmark, then mark up at least half of the items they put out on the floor. Not many deals to be found (both in terms of prices or quality of the items), and the staff is always cranky. If I'm going to have to deal with a snobby staff and overpriced junk, I'll at least spare myself the thrift store experience and just go to Macy's. read more

This is by far the cheapest thrift store in Tampa. I come in for one thing and come out with 10 things(smh) but you can never pass up on a good bargain. The store is well organized. I love the fact that everything is by size just like a regular dept store. The toy section is not the big but you find alot of old board games. The have plenty on pots and pans. They even have lawn and garden equipment as well. The staff is very helpful too!!! read more

This thrift store is distugsting. Everything is covered in dust or grime and the entire store smells like urine and they have no customer service skills at all. I waited in a 20 minute line just to be told one of my items had no tag and couldn't be sold. When I ask for assistance they had 3 people come over to tell me they couldn't sell it with no solution. Terrible service is not something they can afford when the entire store is disgusting. I would never recommend this store unless you like rummaging through garbage. read more

I thrift a lot, all over the country ...don't really see what the big deal is about this place. Definitely would help if the sizes were organized better , or at least organize by color.... Decent selection of dresses which is rare so test was a plus. read more

I love this spot. My co-workers and I go like every month now. You have kids dont want to spend department store prices. Such like Burlington, or having to wait for a sale to come to get something cute. Well you dont have to wait. I buy my babies clothes from here all the time. Tags still on clothes . I get my pants shirts everything from here. I cant get enough of this place. My grandmother comes with me. I freaking love this place. OMG. We are going on 10/11/2012 . As a loyal customer for many years, I can say that overall it's a decent neighborhood thrift store for the most part. Every second Thursday you can get half of the most clothes (but not all), they have two half-off color tags all the time, which is good because they tend to ask top dollar for the name brand clothes. The store is kept relatively clean and smells like popcorn most of the time. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful most of the time. The main reason for my post is that I have noticed a huge price increase recently on mostly household items, books and kids toys and forget about the stuff in the glass cases, you would think everything in there is made of gold! People go to the thrift store to get a good-fair deal not pay premium prices for used stuff. I have several recent examples, but I will share just one that really irked me. I found a kids Pixar Cars race car set in the toy area, although the box had been opened it appeared to be complete and in good condition, with that being said I initially thought the tag said $2.80 and I thought well that's a really good deal, I would pay twice that! lol Well, it was actually marked $28.00, I was shocked as I looked the set up on Walmart and it sells new for $24.95! SHAME! I don't want to hear all the good things you tell everyone who complains, because we're all complaining about the same things, so think about that. I've found several other thrift stores not to far away who are much more fair on their prices, so I tend to go to those much more often, Sunshine use to be my favorite, but not anymore. :( read more

South Tampa store and bathroom are clean, and store is nicely organized store with very nice staff. I do wish they would keep sets of glassware or pieces of a set together, it makes it very hard to find every piece when not taped together. As far as clothing, you can sign up for text/email sale notifications, for 50% off certain day a month, and there are always 2 tag colors at 50% every week. They do not reduce prices on housewares so those higher priced items seem to hang around and take up space. Kitchenwares and electronics, are on the medium to medium-high side for a thrift store (especially since things are donated) and the pricing does seem to be inconsistent across the stores for the same item; that said, it is still great place to hunt for treasures! read more

Sunshine used to be one of my all-time favorite thrift stores (~1-2 years ago). While some positives (good variety and mostly reasonable prices) are still true, there have also been a lot of unpleasant changes of late. The store staff is always grumpy (I would probably be annoyed by most shoppers too) but is it necessary to loudly gossip about coworkers and unpleasant customers while putting out wares? The checkout staff is a HUGE stickler about the email club. I get it - they want subscribers. But perhaps don't be rude to customers whose phones died, or who couldn't pull up the email fast enough for the checkout team to yank it out of their hand? Nobody is trying to cheat you out of 5 extra dollars of used clothing. If you're dealing with the sheer chaos of the 50% off day, you're there because you have the coupon. Trying on a $3 plastic bracelet from behind the jewelry counter gets you scrutinized as though you're about to steal the royal jewels. Plus, knockoffs labeled as "imitation Tiffany", "imitation Rolex", etc are priced at $40+ (PS to management - you do realize that selling ANY designer replica is blatantly illegal, right?). The worst bit? Having a snooty sales associate try to sell me a piece of plastic as an $80 "18 karat gold" necklace. I'm no jeweler, sure, but I know enough to tell that something that's peeling and turning green at the clasp, has no .750 hallmark stamp, and weighs about as much as a paper clip is absolutely not a piece of fine jewelry. How many customers end up falling for Sunshine's deceptive labeling practices for not knowing better? read more

Large, somewhat underwhelming, but has potential. This place was huge, had a large selection but everything seemed kind of picked over. The biggest downfall imo is that nothing is sized at all, and it is so large youd really have to dig to find stuff that you like AND that's in your size. My sister found a nice dress from Pac Sun for $9 and we also found a brand new dress with tags sold on Nasty Gal for $9 so I imagine if you have the time you can really find some great stuff. read more

The store has many positives - it's well laid out, it is clean, the staff are pretty friendly and helpful, and the selection of gently used clothing is huge. Do come here if you have time to browse and re-check the racks. Do come here if you're willing to put 50 items in your cart (seriously, grab first, cull later), do come here if you like paying $4.95 for a White House Black Market sweater. There are daily deals, "senior" discounts (like Bealls, if you're over 50 or just bring along a friend who is over 50), and mailing list coupons. This isn't your average thrift store. read more

I was really excited to check this place out on my visit and I have to say, I was pretty disappointed. The organization by gender and type was the ONLY organization with clothing, besides the jeans which are done by size. Nothing else is sorted by size or color and I found quite a few pieces that were ripped or it looked like someone had altered it badly. There were a few decent shirts and dresses, but overall the selection wasn't as great as I expected. The one good thing is the prices. Most of the shirts I bought were under 3 dollars. They also seem to have a good supply of swimwear. They had some really nice men's shoes as well, but the women's shoe section was lacking. I felt like I had to really search for the good stuff, so I wouldn't go here if you're in a hurry. I work in retail so I totally understand, but I always end my conversation when a customer comes to check out. I also try to say excuse me when moving past someone in an aisle, but different people had different ideas of what's polite and what's not. Overall, I think I'd come back here as a last resort, but it's not my first choice. read more

Have been going to Sunshine Thrift for at least 18 years. Have purchased large aquariums (still have one in my frontroom) to small .40 cent items. I have purchased brand new sweaters (have drawers to prove it!). Some times it needs a little cleaning in the bins, but on the whole the place is clean. The staff are great, except one thin manager, who could use some PR training! Well worth it to shop here, as you NEVER know what you will find! read more

First visit and it was good! A staff member was friendly and helpful getting down an item for me. I left with a Victorias Secret 2 piece bathing suit, a pretty dress that was new with tags over $100 on tag :-), a painting, dvd, and toy for my child all for 16.00. I would say that is a deal because at Goodwill as soon as they see a tag they mark a single clothing item like 14.99 and up. At those prices it takes the fun out of thrifting! I also like that they have a 1.00 rack which had decent enough things on it. I feel that is considerate to the people who really have to use thrifts to shop because they are struggling financially at the moment but may need a button down shirt or skirt for an interview or something. They also have clothing half off colors which is how I got my purchase so cheap! Overall I am happy! I am originally from Philadelphia and this thrift reminds me of a city thrift store which is a good thing to me! Its always a good sign when you actually see sales clerks putting out new merchandise while you are there. Over all liked it! A little far for me but I will probably try to make it out once a month as a treat to myself! read more
