It was extremely difficult work to chisel out and remove my pop-ups (which were cemented in by the other company) and took 5 visits to completely fix all 19 pop-ups, but Nick had a great attitude and ensured me that he will get my pop-ups working correctly again. I honestly thought that it was hopeless to even try to get the pop-ups working correctly again but Nick pleasantly surprised me. The work was completed without disturbing the new PebbleTec finish. He never gave up on my pool and always seemed very happy to help with pride for his work. He treated my pool with professionalism and competence as if he was working on his own pool. I was referred to Amergency Services from my Mom since Nick is her pool guy and she was very happy with his weekly pool maintenance. The core issue: my saltwater system wasn't producing chlorine. Rather than properly diagnosing the problem, the team repeatedly added stabilized chlorine -- driving my cyanuric acid level above 100 ppm, which now requires a partial drain to correct. When I pushed for answers, they dismissed a simple fix and instead recommended a full system replacement and conversion to Pentair for over $2,800. I replaced the salt cell myself for $400. The system worked perfectly within minutes. A basic 15-minute diagnostic would have identified a worn-out cell. Instead, I was steered toward an unnecessary $2,800 replacement. During this same period, algae developed, my pool crawler was left offline despite my requests to address it, and no one flagged that the system had stopped producing chlorine entirely. I had to catch every failure point myself -- which is exactly what I was paying them to prevent. Eight months later, it got worse. We discovered their technician had put DE (diatomaceous earth) into our filter -- a filter that is not compatible with DE. This caused damage that we are now paying to have cleared and repaired. This was not a series of honest mistakes. This was a pattern of negligence, misdiagnosis, and upselling at the customer's expense. I got Steve's number from my realtor who said that he was probably going to use Steve. My realtor had all kinds of great contacts when I remodeled my house before I moved in 10 years ago. I met with Steve first. I then reached out to the other companies after meeting with Steve to be exhaustive and because it got kind of silly with how difficult these companies were to even reach. I actually met with about 6 of the 10 because some of them never even returned my call (several with favorable reviews on Yelp). The companies who did show up, gave estimates all over the board and several didn't follow up with me after I expressed sincere interest in hiring them. It was weird. Recommendations from neighbors, co-workers, Yelp. They were all flakes. I was impressed at how much control Steve directly exercised over this project (Steve is the owner).
