I have had three appointments and I am very happy with the level of care I've received. Dr. LoRusso, NP Christine Scheper, Nia, Rachell, and Evian were all outstanding and professional. They listened to me, made expert diagnosis, and provided a very high level of care. They run a very efficient operation and I have been impressed with their competency. 1-Star Review I had an extremely disappointing experience with Sunwise Dermatology in Middletown. What should have been a professional and respectful patient experience instead left me feeling uncomfortable, disrespected, and extremely frustrated. I experienced what I consider to be unprofessional behavior and harassment, and I was particularly disturbed by what I believe were inaccurate and misleading statements made regarding my care and interactions with the office. As a patient, I expect honesty, professionalism, appropriate communication, and basic respect. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. I should not have had to question whether I was being given accurate information or feel as though I was being treated in an inappropriate manner for simply trying to advocate for myself as a patient. The way this situation was handled completely damaged my trust in the practice. Medical offices have an obligation to communicate honestly and treat patients with dignity, even when there is a disagreement or difficult situation. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Sunwise Dermatology to others. I hope the practice takes situations like this seriously and takes steps to ensure that other patients do not leave feeling the way I did. read more

My wife and I had appointments together on January 31,2023. Based on our very poor experience with this office we would not recommend this practice for multiple reasons and advise prospective patients to seek treatment elsewhere. This practice, including the physician and the office staff do not communicate effectively with patients. Additionally, they fail to consider the patients concerns and never admit that they may have made some mistakes. We waited for six weeks to get an appointment for full dermatological scans. This was requested over the phone and also included on the patient paperwork submitted the day of the appointments. Additionally, my wife had a specific concern regarding an area on her back which looked suspicious because it did not heal. My wife and I were separated into two rooms by two staff members. I was told to put on an examination gown. They did not do that for her. Both appointments were rushed, and Mr. Stroup (PA) never performed the full body scan for my wife. Subsequent to the appointments the staff lied about being asked to do her body scan, despite the fact that it was requested in writing. The PA supported his staff members. Another aspect of the poor communications in this office is the manner in which my wife was informed regarding the suspicious area on her back. The results of the biopsy on the suspicious area revealed a basal cell carcinoma. Rather than communicate the diagnosis, treatment options in person with the patient, an office clerk called my wife to discuss the matter and schedule surgery. My wife decided to go to another office for the procedure. She also had the second office perform the full body scan. It is worth noting that the second office found some precancerous areas on her body. Lastly, in discussing our negative visits with Mr. Stroup on the phone, he would not admit that they may have made a mistake. He also interjected religion into the discussion which was totally irrelevant to the matter at hand. read more

Start to finish, less than subpar care. I went here to get a full body cancer screening and mentioned 1 spot of concern. They instead ONLY focused on the one spot, found cancer and thought it was cool not to offer a full body screen until several months later(?). How I found out I had cancer was a phone call from a surgical scheduler and at no time did a clinician discuss with me the type I had, prognosis or what that means for me now or in the future. Of course in fear, I scheduled for surgery straight away.The only conversation Dr Russo had with me was that she'd be leaving a scar and that she may need to do surgery again if the scar heals tight...failing to give what another provider told me, that this could be prevented by massaging the scar tissue after x amount of days post surgery. When I was getting dressed from surgery I realized...wow... they left the window shades wide open --windows overlook a parking lot. AND what they cut out of me was just sitting there on the tray with OUT being capped and secured?!?!?! Considering this specimen needed further testing, this should have been handled with extreme care. I was supposed to have post-op support and apparently I should have left there with a paper detailing instructions (never had surgery before so how was I to know?!) but I left empty handed. Then I had questions and a complication...but no one ever called me back. Apparently their phone system wasn't working... so I was told. Not acceptable. ZERO clinical care support throughout a truly scary process. I had to go to my primary care doctor to get the information they should have given me, even though I was told if I had issues to call them not to go elsewhere if I had issues, but I HAD to without a response from them. To add insult to injury, they screwed up billing and now I can never get through to their 3rd party biller to try to resolve the issue they created. I've never had such lack of care (thankfully) in all my days. I can't recommend this practice due to all the aforementioned. read more

I began treatment Dr. Gerald Stroup for adult acne. My experience with the staff (as a whole) has been nothing short of phenomenal. My first impression of Dr. G was a very informative doctor with humor and kindness that (in my opinion) every doctor should possess. Because of my experience, my daughter started treatment with Dr. G as well. We haven't started the medication for her yet but I'm certain that his "face plan" will be effective. He absolutely made my daughter comfortable and didn't scold her when she objected to certain examinations (upper back). I appreciated that a great deal. On top of this, Dr. G was also very informative with my daughters treatment going forward. I would absolutely recommend anyone to SunWise Dermatology for any skin problems. read more

I have been very happy with the office staff , they are responsive and accommodating. I do have an issue with Dr Caputo, there is a place on my face that she and I have discussed several times over 2 visits and I have told her I did not want it treated in any way. During my last visit she treated that area without my permission. She was to freeze 4 other spots on my face and she zapped that one knowing I did not want it touched. I am very upset and will not be going back there. While I appreciate and respect her professional opinion I feel that the final decision on treatment is on the patient not the doctor when the situation is not life or death. 1/1. Do not recommend. During the visits the staff were friendly and the care I received was good. The billing department is another story entirely. Three times I contacted this office to make my payments. Nothing was ever resolved. I even mailed Dr. LaRusso directly and got no response or call about it. They really don't care that their billing dept is sending people to collections that are making their payments on time. If you are a bill payer and care about your credit DO NOT use this place. read more

Out of pocket expenses of over $1,000 (after insurance) to have a mole removed.... Last bill was almost $500. Paid $100, 3 weeks later sent in another $100. Then we get a call they were sending us to "collections" because they "don't accept partial payments."..... after cashing the check for partial payment. *****UPDATE: Received call from Gerry Stroup on 1/24/20. He explained billing is outsourced to an independent company. Any time you you make two $100 payments in a span of three weeks for a $482 bill and get threatened with "collections" because they "don't accept partial payments"- while at same time time accepting them and cashing the checks, it is frustrating. Hopefully they will get their billing company some clearer guidelines. I am changing rating from 1 to 4 stars as the issue was billing and while still a reflection on the business overall, it is not a reflection on the care received by SunWise. read more

Dr. LaRusso is very knowledgeable, courteous and listens to patients. It is very important to me that a doctor listens and doesn't rush through my concerns I recommend Dr. LaRusso. The support staff are also very courteous. read more
