Found my brown rice cooker here - again with the less than helpful staff. I practically had to climb the shelves myself to get it (Am a little on the short Omah side) But I was on a quest for one particular thing and they had what I needed. The produce section seemed a little bit forlorn. But they do have the requisite stocks of Ramyun, nori, rice (brown or mixed grains) soy sauce - I've discovered the Korean brand soy sauce is a bit milder and sweeter! Good for making my adobo. Is it just me or does everyone go to different "Asian" markets for particular things? read more

A new Korean market right next door to one of my favorite restaurants, Soy Tofu, score! Whats better than eating and then walking off your food next door at the market for some snacks.. Super 1 Mart is well stocked. I will say this venue could be a bit more organized, I guess when I said it was well stocked I meant to say it's overstocked!! A bit of a hazard in some of the aisles, boxes everywhere that really should be in the back of the store if they don't have room to stock these products on the shelves. I wouldn't say this store is immaculate but it's clean and just needs some help with organization. As for the merchandise, with the help of the staff I'm able to find everything I need. Great variety in snacks ,desserts and teas and all the mainstream items and unique candy when I have a sweet tooth. I love the selections of ice cream, my go to spot for the black sesame mochi bonbons ice cream!! The produce aisles are extensive with fresh fruits and veggies. The grocery store is part of the Han Nam Chain family, these stores are all over K-town, Torrance and Buena Park. Super 1 Mart is a great new market addition to the city of La Palma! read more

If I could give this place a negative star I would. Never in my life have I ever experienced racism, I was genuinely caught off guard. We had just had dinner next door at a delicious restaurant tonight when we were walking towards the car and decided to pick up 2 extra bottles of Soju to take home. We got in line to pay with the cashier. The lady at the register looked at my boyfriend and I and was looking at us strange. I smiled as I normally do making a joke that my boyfriend is 12 years old. She grabs the bottles while she's holding my bf drivers license that obviously says he's well over 21 yes old. She than stops and asks us if we've been drinking tonight? I think she's joking and look at her with curiosity while my bf answers that we were just at dinner so yes. She immediately says I can not sell to you as it is law. I'm still waiting for the joke fully aware of my senses but very confused by her attitude. Here we are not making a ruckus or even making noise and she's acting like we're drunk off our asses. Again, still standing still never ever experiencing this type of racism I'm waiting for the joke. The lady just shakes her head and keeps saying no. Finally my bf grabs his license and says okay. Even now driving home I can't quite process what just happened as I have lived i California all my life and have never meet ignorant racist people. This store is an absolute joke and should be ASHAMED of itself. It's honestly painful to think I was so oblivious to what was happening that I seriously thought she was joking. What BULLSHIT LAW she was supposedly uphold is beyond me when her customers couldn't be further to drunk and disorderly. My bf is Indian, and I am Hispanic. She looked at us and made a judgement that we were somehow up to no good. I'm absolutely stunned still and extremely angry and upset that a lovely evening was destroyed by a stupid ignorant person. Great place to grab a bite to eat and shop at the same location You can just make 1 trip to have dinner and grab groceries which makes it very convenient. There are a few restaurant choices which include Chinese, Japanese (rolls), Korean, and a new Japanese noodles place that just opened which area all good choices. I usually avoid the Zion Market in Cerritos and head to this Super 1 Mart location in La Palma, mostly because of better merchandise selection. There's another Zion Market in Hawaiian Gardens, but it's out of my way to drive unless I'm closer to the 605 Freeway or Long Beach. The market is still fully stocked after several months of being open and the venue still looks proper and clean. I checked the produce, meat, and perishables and they all seem fresh. It was a Sunday evening and the workers nearby were taking inventory for the week. Several ladies were closing up their sample stations, while others were stocking up the fruits and vegetables for the coming week. The parking is never a chore at this plaza. There's plenty of it and easy access for people like my sister who reside close by. BEST BUY * Wang Udon. This is the best instant udon I've had at home. It tastes just as good as some of the stuff I've tried at Japanese restaurants, but a lot cheaper. * LA Dodgers Hite Ice Point Beer. Korean beer made for the Blue Crew. It's Hyun Jin Ryu's favorite beer. Maybe. * iCing Grapefruit Makgeolli. Somewhat like an alcoholic Squirt, this sparkling beverage has an incredible mix of citrus, sweet, and sour. The body is similar to that of a slightly milky and less carbonated soda, which sounds terrible, but manages an incredibly smooth aftertaste. * Home Made Style Galbi. Marinated and sealed, it's like a party TO GO. * Kokomen Ramen. This brand started a craze a year ago, but it's died down a bit. The broth is clean, spicy, and full of chicken flavor. * Wol Soju. It's supposedly lighter and cleaner than the competition. It's more expensive, that's for sure. I stopped in to check out what this store had to offer after eating at soy tofu next door. This market has lot's of affordable fresh produce with even some organic options. I can't wait to come back to buy some meats for the bbq. They had a beautiful display of steaks, marinated meats and lots of great looking seafood. They have all your normal Korean store goodies including ready made side dishes and already prepared foods. read more

I was looking for yellow curry paste, I could not find any so I asked a worker for help. We had some communication difficulties he spoke Spanish, but tried his best to help me. Eventually they found an older Asian woman employee I told her I was looking for yellow curry paste she looked at me like I was asking for magical moon rocks. And then took me to bean paste and said that's what I needed. I just wanted yellow curry paste but either this location did not carry it or the employees were just confused by my request I left here empty handed. read more

First impressions are huge to me and wow did Super 1 deliver! I've been to numerous Korean supermarkets in the South Bay, I'm used to the staff never acknowledging you and never smiling. Never had I see such friendliness from a staff at a Korean market like this one! The cashier had a lengthy conversation with me while ringing me up (All business, no flirting.) I explained that I just moved into the area and she even welcomed me to the neighborhood! The market is the cleanest Korean market I've been to, by far. I usually like to shop at Japanese supermarkets but I've found numerous items that they sell at Mitsuwa at Super 1, but for a lot cheaper! This has become a go-to market for me, one that I now visit regularly. read more

Please fire the manager/owner/operator of this supermarket. After the cashier asks if I wanted a bag, (I of course said, yes ) they make you pack your own purchases right after you pay for your items !!! What is the point of having a cashier ???? (I looked around and didn't see any baggers). Get rid of the cashiers and create a self-check out system then ! Who the hell does this ??? Food 4 Less ? is that where they got this idea from ? cheap bastards ! Then, reduce the effing prices on your inventory b/c your store is over priced. Its all about penny pinching isn't it. This is a pretty small korean market compared to other supermarkets like Zion Market. The prices here are also not too cheap either. The selection here is smaller than Zion Market and Ranch 99. It's definitely an okay market if you just need basic ingredients, but if you want a bigger selection I would suggest going to Zion Market or Ranch 99. read more

Finally a Korea supermarket that isn't jammed packed or has a parking lot where I have to circle 5 times to find parking. This market is on the smaller side but because it's smaller I feel it's more neat and clean. The real gem is the food inside. They have kimbapp for 5 bucks inside and also sell pastry bread for 1 buck! It gets better though. The real reason for coming here is the restaurant that is on the inside. It has everything you could want from soondae, ddukbokke, curry katsu, to nnengmyun. The price is fair too. I've been coming here to pick up lunch or just a red bean bun now and I will continue to. I've never been happier to go to a Korean supermarket and I am so glad this place exists. read more

Just got back from the Super 1. I'm Japanese American, my wife and I shop very frequently there. But today was unreal. After filling our cart we got in line, with a a few people deep. I saw a clerk come over and tell a Korean customer to come over and she opened another check stand. I followed but was told she was not open. What is the deal!!!! I'm not Korean so I don't count. This is how you run a business and this is the way you treat a paying customer. Instead of creating a public scene, we got in line again (losing my original spot to another customer). Then less than 2 minutes later the same clerk opens the same check stand. Now what I'm supposed to do now. Should I let the other non Korean asians, know of this treatment. Should I let the Rafu Shimpo (local Japanese newspaper) know that this is how your store treats Japanese Americans. Should I let all my friends (asian and non-asian) know. I have lived here in La Palma since 1981, I may know a few people. I tried to call the store to talk to a manager (5:30pm Wed 3/13) but was told he wasn't there. Asked when he would be there tomorrow was the answer. We'll see. I'm not to hopeful.... Second day(3/14)...... called and ask to speak to a manager.... none present.. told he would be in at 1;00pm... they asked what I wanted and I told them I had concern with the store.... now the time the manager would be in changed to 5 or 6 pm.... then it changed to he wasn't going to be in at all.... I think this market is more expensive than other Korean markets I've been to. They don't really have sales as much either. But their vegetables and fruits are fresh and good quality. I also really like how they close an hour later than other markets ! read more

Wow a KoreanMarket in La Palma! Surely I had to check this place out. Well, maybe I'm spoiled because I've experienced much better and cleaner in K-town and little Tokyo. Cleanliness and presentation is a big deal for me if you are serving and selling food product. Super 1 Mart is my new happy place! It doesn't get five stars because it has a small produce section, although they what they have is fresh and you can purchase produce in the quantities that you want, not in the overpriced pre-packaged trays they have at 99 Ranch. The selection is not as expansive as HMart or 99 Ranch, but that is because this is a Korean grocery, not all purpose Asian grocery. But, the parking here is awesome. The employees, including the women handing out samples, have always been friendly and awesome, and they have a good selection of tofu and tofu products. And what I need whenever I want to stock up for my indo-chinese cooking adventures. Oh, and the Cocohoden (?) snack area. Oh yeah, all kinds of yum. I am very happy this is walking distance from my new home. Moving sucks, finding new happy places rocks! read more

This is a horrible grocery store.. I bought a bag of calrose rice and inside was a lot of bugs inside. I called and returned the item and they had bad customer service and didn't even care. When u go shopping for rice please check before you purchase the item. read more

I picked up 2 packs of marinade bulgogi the other day. Meat was very questionable by cut which it used left over parts of different types not typically used rib eye and by the freshness which it got smells not sauce but from old meat just before it goes bad. I don't want my family got sick, so I throw away. Don't buy marinaded meat from here. They covered not fresh meats with sauce and put in the package so you can't find out. At least two other Korean markets did not make it on this corner. A Korean market a couple miles away took away their customers. This place opened up on the same corner but in a larger store that was previously a drug store. I didn't think this market would last due to two other large Koreans markets both two miles away in different directions. However, this market is doing very well with many shoppers. Its popularity is due to a very good produce section and well stocked shelves as well as freshly prepared hot and cold Korean food. This is now my favorite Korean market and I shop here often. read more

Well where do I start ? I am a regular customer at the Han Nam Supermarket in La Palma since its opening. I probably spend on average $100 per visit and my family shops here at least 4 times a week. On an average we spend $1500 to $2,000 per month. I am well recognized at this market because of my frequent visit here and I have always loved shopping here, but that all changed yesterday when I tried returning a $16.00 electric water pot. There was a defect in the machine and the hot water would liternally jump out of the pot, forcing open the cap, which my 80 year old mother almost burned her hands. Having some knowledge of the product liabilities and lawsuits that can arise from such product, I decided to return the product and help warn the supermarket of potential accidents from this brand, but instead of a thank you, I was humiliated in public by this old Korean manager who put on this mean grin saying "you didn't use the product properly and we can't take your return since you don't have a receipt". So I politely said if you can't refund, I am more than happy to buy something else at your store, but he got even more nasty and raised his voice in public that there is nothing wrong with this product. I don't how this Korean man is the manager of this beautiful store, but he's more concerned about his opinion than the well being of his customers. He's first comment should have been, "is your mother okay ?", but no he assumes that somehow the customer is stupid and just wants to abuse his store to save some $16. Its quite offensive how this manager treated me. They need a new manager. What a horrible customer service! So dishonest, they try to hide the fact their produce is from Mexico, their sign says it's from the US only to find on their sticker inside their packaging says it was grown in Mexico. Their water vending machine is always broken and yet they never put a sign warning the customers. I called once to see if they had an item because it was raining and didn't want to drive in the rain, the gal on the phone said they did only to find out they didn't, she didn't even bother to check. When I went to confront her the man at the counter just shugs his shoulder as if to say so what. I have a feeling the workers want to see the place fail, they don't give a dam. P.S. check the items that are on sale for the expiration date. They have a tendency to put things on sale that's couple of days from expiring, they have a habit of doing that. P.S. the place looks like a tornado hit it. So cluttered and messy and unsanitary looking. read more
