Sat in a cool booth in the bar ( you know the kind old school green leather wood paneling ) huge area yet cozy, college football on tv. My husband's dirty martini with blue cheese o lives & my cosmopolitan were fantastic. Ordered the Fat Bastard oysters - again great. I laughed at my husband when he ordered the filet for dinner until I tried it - one of his favorite steaks yet! Cooked "perfectly ". I had the halibut fish tacos , which I highly recommend. Tatiana our waitress was great very friendly & funny. For dessert we tried something different for us their hot fudge chocolate cake ..... ......... you must order. Absolutely Phenomenal -- One of My Favorite Restaurants! I cannot rave enough about this restaurant! I have been here more than 50 times, and there is a reason I continue to come back. The food, drinks, service, atmosphere, and location are consistently amazing. The food is always fresh and delicious, with a great menu selection and something for everyone. The drinks are fantastic, the ambiance is beautiful, and the staff is friendly, attentive, and provides excellent service. I have recommended this restaurant to several people and have even brought friends and family from out of town here. They loved it so much that they already want to come back! That says everything. After more than 50 visits, I can confidently say this place continues to deliver. Whether you're looking for great food, amazing drinks, a wonderful atmosphere, or just an overall great dining experience, this restaurant checks every box. I came here salivating with such a craving after browsing Yelp for a great place to eat, which I usually do when I'm searching for something new to try. I came here for seafood, specifically their Oyster Rockefeller, because I haven't had it in decades. It's one of my all-time favorite dishes, along with foie gras, bone marrow, head cheese, suckling pig, and more. I was happily surprised to discover it's located across the street from my favorite studio, Mr. Inkwell's Classic Tattoo & Piercing. I guess I didn't pay close attention when I mapped out directions--a real downside of relying on GPS these days. I remember when I used to memorize streets, locations, and directions every time I visited a new place or traveled. Anyway, I digress. The place is fancy and spacious, with a market out front, divided into three or four sections: the bar stools right in front of the bar, the bar seating area, the main dining space, and an enclosed patio. The employees all looked experienced and mature, like they had been there for more than a decade. The three hostesses at the front were younger. After looking at the menu, I decided to start with their peach puff pastry topped with vanilla bean ice cream. When a dessert catches my eye, I often prefer to indulge in it first because I might be full afterward. It didn't disappoint. I took my time, savoring every bite. The freshly cut peaches had a nice bite, while the puff pastry was crunchy and flaky, with its very tasty cream. The vanilla bean ice cream was simply delightful. After finishing, I didn't want to spoil the high from such an amazing dessert, so I decided to take the oysters home. It's half a dozen. Presentation-wise, they're a bit underwhelming compared to previous ones I've had. And just so you know, I used to work part-time as a server at an upscale American restaurant at the top of a fancy old hotel in Long Beach, at a well-known authentic Italian pizza place in San Diego, at a small Korean bar in Torrance, at a family-owned Filipino restaurant, and at a Japanese fast-food chain, among others. Even with a full-time 8-5 corporate job, I still worked part-time as a server, dining host, and karaoke hostess. My three favorite pastimes are enjoying delicious food, meeting new people, and discovering new adventures. To continue, my biggest disappointment was that two of the six Oyster Rockefellers didn't contain any oysters at all! It's baffling how that could happen. Usually, Oyster Rockefeller looks bulky with build-up depth from the spinach, cheese, butter, and seasonings on top of the oysters themselves. But these looked dull and bland with a plain flat top. They also weren't that hot. It wasn't really appetizing. Two of them only had the adductor muscle (that round, fleshy part attached to the shell), which I actually love, by the way. So you see, I couldn't be mistaken, as I slurped the oysters only to taste the spinach, cheese, butter, and the little bitty meat muscle I had to scrape a little off the shell with a fork. There were definitely no chewy, soft, and tasty oysters. I hope it was just a simple mishap, especially for an upscale restaurant known for its seafood dishes. Hopefully, a member of management sees and reads this review and takes corrective action to ensure this never happens again. Please note that the usual price for great-tasting Oysters Rockefeller at a well-established restaurant is $30. This place charges $25, which makes me think twice. But then again, some of its dishes are priced a few dollars lower than most, except for the dessert, which costs a few dollars more at $15. However, I still enjoyed it so much that it doesn't matter to me. In life, there are always pros and cons when it comes to overall preferences. It is always up to you to try things yourself and not rely on someone else's opinion, which might prevent you from discovering new things. That said, I am willing to come back to try other dishes that look equally scrumptious and reasonably priced: Toodle-loo, my darling readers. Until next time. read more

Our server waa excellent and gave is plenty of time tondecide and helped give us suggestions. We started with warm sourdough rolls. Always the best here! my wife and I recently attended a funeral (her mother) and we intended to have a small dinner party (7) afterwards at our favorite restaurant , The Original Fish Co., needless to say it turned out to be a party of 24! When I called the restaurant from the cemetery and told them of my dilemma i was told that they would do everything in their power to accommodate me which was a big relief! When we arrived we did have to wait a little but we understood the situation. The end result was a day my family and I will never forget! It was a day for the ages! TOFC has been one of my family's go-to spots for celebrations and casual dining for many years. The food and service have been consistent, and we always have a pleasant and belly-satisfying experience. The atmosphere is upscale casual with plenty of cozy indoor and patio seating. The main bar is also a nice area for food and drinks, and watching sports. Brunch, happy hour, and seasonal menus are also available. The main menu offers a variety of seafood and more to choose from. We particularly like the raw oyster selection and shareable appetizers such as the jumbo shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, steamers, and baked oysters and scallops. The clam chowders are amazing as well, with two great options--white New England and red Manhattan. A few of my favorite entrées are the Captain's Platter, many of the Fresh Catch of the Day, the pastas, and the classics. If I choose fresh fish of the day, I'll have it prepared blackened or mesquite-broiled. Most entrées include two sides. My favorite sides are grilled veggies, garlic mashed potatoes, and sweet potato fries. You can't go wrong with any of the options. The complimentary fresh sourdough bread is warm and irresistible to munch on before the appetizers and main entree. Just don't fill up on it! You can also ask for refills during your meal and take home leftovers. The service and staff have been kind and attentive. They don't accept reservations, but we haven't had to wait long for a table to be ready. The market side of the restaurant offers some fresh fish and more to take home as well. My wife and I went there for Fish N chips for lunch. They served hot bread and butter prior to meal, very tasty. Our entrees arrived, two pieces of fish, fries, Cole slaw, tartar sauce and ketchup. Overall fish was delicious, however $ 34.50 each for two meals seemed rather expensive. We did not have any cocktails. Total price: 80.34 for two with a $4.95 ice tea. We finally got around to coming back to Los Alamitos at Original Fish Company. Probably one of the best overall seafood oriented restaurant in Los Angeles. Always had a great meal. They start you out with a basket of hot fresh sourdough rolls that let you know that this is California and everything is gonna be great. We enjoyed a Caesar salad with dungeness crab. This Caesar salad is at the top of list with a great dressing and topped with that sweet dungeness crab meat. It can't be beat. I've never had Eastern Monkfish, so I wanted to try it. A fish that is so delectable. Served with some butter and you know why this fish is known as poor man's lobster. I'm usually happy with just the hot sourdough and clam chowder that is in a league of its own! Unfortunately, the service was not to the standard. Very slow pacing and the staff inattentive. I know this is well established seafood restaurant that has been around for over four decades but I was highly disappointed with the quality of the food and portions. My friend and I ordered the exact same items the difference in size of out portions were comical. One looked like the mini version of the other. I did not enjoy the Chilean sea bass (my favorite fish) it was bland and semi raw. The lemon cream sauce was not appealing either. The waitress practically rolled her eyes and only started smiling AFTER getting a generous tip at the end of the meal. I had my anniversary dinner here yesterday. Wow! I knew the food was awesome,but it's decorated for Valentine's Day and very nicely done. I ordered the Scallops on a skewer, with a little bacon, not exactly wrapped...as the server explained to me. It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! My husband had calamari steak. This is one of the few places we have found this seafood item. Every entree comes with 2 delicious sides. And to top it off, they have a great selection of desserts. Popped in for Happy Hour in a Wednesday night (3-6 mon - Fri, 3-5 sun) and didn't have any problem getting a table..Happy hour is only served in the bar area, which is plenty big and festive. Got the most delicious lobster taco for $12. The crème and cotija cheese complimented the sweet lobster - perfection ! Then I got the shrimp and scallop ceviche and was a tad disappointed...was expecting traditional ceviche with cilantro and lime juice..but this was served on a tomato broth/ salsa/sonora style..but it didn't really saw that on the menu. This has become the favorite midway spot between South OC and mid-city LA for my friend and I to meet for dinner. It's convenient to the 405 and 605 freeways and there's a large shared parking lot. The menu has a huge variety of options although we usually stick to our favorites. My friend tends towards raw oysters to start then mesquite grilled fish, and I towards Sushi rolls or New England clam chowder followed by mesquite grilled skewered shrimp. Meals come with two sides with a variety of choices or you can sub out one side for salad or chowder for an upcharge. Meals also come with hot sourdough rolls. Although the dining area is expansive we tend to sit at the bar and our bar servers tonight, Adri and Keylee both were professional, friendly and attentive. We brought our own wine and they offered to decant it. Corkage fee is $20. The Original Fish Company brings in a lot of regulars for good reason. Overall this is a 3-3.5. The food had good flavor. Sides were pretty good and the bread was really good - crisp outside but soft inside, and hot! Our group tried a range of things: sea bass, calamari steak, shrimp, and catfish. Portions seemed on the smaller side, especially considering the price. ($30+ for lunch!) It's seafood, so that costs more, I know. I just wish it had more going for it. The service was okay. The hostesses and server that we had were polite, but they weren't very friendly or welcoming. Nothing bad happened. There was just a touch of uncomfortableness that I can't quite explain. The decor has a traditional steak house feel but focused on seafood. Came here around 12 on a Sunday. The place is pretty big so got sat down immediately. We ordered an oyster, some calamari, and biscuits and chowder. The oyster was alright. Had some bits of sand in it but tasted okay. The biscuits and chowder was decent. The poached eggs were perfect and the biscuits had a layer of cheese and a piece of bacon. The chowder was a bit runnier than id like but the fresh grated pepper was a nice touch. The biscuits were a bit soggy since they were in the chowder and i actually preferred it with the sourdough bread rolls in the bread basket better. The calamari was the star of the show. Anthony was our server and took good care of us. We came here to celebrate my mom's birthday and waited about 15-20 minutes before we were sat as there was a wait that kept growing on a Thursday night. I got the Mahi Mahi (with the option to have it mesquite-broiled with Cajun spices) and it was excellent. I also got a side half Caesar salad and spinach & artichoke casserole. Came here this afternoon and had a really great experience overall. The food was excellent. We ordered the shrimp and scallop ceviche along with the Alaskan halibut. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the butter lemon sauce we selected with the halibut definitely enhanced the flavor and brought everything together perfectly. The ceviche was good as well -- it had more of a pico de gallo, lemon-forward taste, which made it bright and refreshing. The patio was a highlight. I returned here with a few of my neighbors for the happy hour which is Sunday thru Friday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Along with the drink discounts is a nice selection of small plates. The bar is lively and has flat screens for sporting events and separate booths for a more intimate environment. We enjoyed oysters on a half shell, clam chowder fries, crab sliders, fried clams, jumbo shrimps and crab, shrimp, scallop ceviche & tortilla chips. Once upon a time, this Faerie Queen was happy to celebrate her Person's retirement. We got a group of fantastic teachers together to help her herald in a very merry new chapter of life. I like their warm bread & butter and cup of clam chowder to start off my meal. The bread is similar to a baguette, similar to the type of bread you would have with a clam chowder bowl, soft in the middle and hard on the outside. The clam chowder is thick & creamy, with big chunks of potatoes & clams to remind you what the sea tastes like without being overly fishy. The fish prepared either fried or grilled tastes freshly caught. I like the traditional Icelandic Cod fish and chips which is a hefty meal for one person given the starters such as the bread and chowder are consumed prior, and the mesquite grilled fish are a chef's kiss when it comes to seasoning.
