What's going on?- where did the consistency go? Came in to celebrate my birthday, we ordered the usual, my Chilean Sea Bass and the Wild Salmon. Salmon was served dry, in addition to the one piece, we got an extra chunk of fish also dry. The presentation was poor and it made us wonder if this was someone else's piece and dumped on our plate, or just an error. Either way, both pieces were dry. We took one bite and were not happy, it was overcooked. We let the server know, who then sends a manager. He seemed a bit bothered by our concern and questions which were fair. We were eventually provided another plate which I still question if it was what we ordered and paid for, the WILD Salmon. The experience was frustrating, I ended up eating my dinner alone to avoid letting it get cold, where as my partner had to wait for his plate another 25 mins or so. We ordered fat bastard oysters but were told they ran out ( @ 5:30) . My husband's cioppino was horrible - one shrimp, empty shells, one piece of crap, a spoonful of linguine ( Nicks on 2 is better). The food and service have been consistent, and we always have a pleasant and belly-satisfying experience. The atmosphere is upscale casual with plenty of cozy indoor and patio seating. The main menu offers a variety of seafood and more to choose from. We particularly like the raw oyster selection and shareable appetizers such as the jumbo shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, steamers, and baked oysters and scallops. The clam chowders are amazing as well, with two great options--white New England and red Manhattan. A few of my favorite entrées are the Captain's Platter, many of the Fresh Catch of the Day, the pastas, and the classics. If I choose fresh fish of the day, I'll have it prepared blackened or mesquite-broiled. Most entrées include two sides. My favorite sides are grilled veggies, garlic mashed potatoes, and sweet potato fries. You can't go wrong with any of the options. The complimentary fresh sourdough bread is warm and irresistible to munch on before the appetizers and main entree. Just don't fill up on it! You can also ask for refills during your meal and take home leftovers. The service and staff have been kind and attentive. They don't accept reservations, but we haven't had to wait long for a table to be ready. The market side of the restaurant offers some fresh fish and more to take home as well. We finally got around to coming back to Los Alamitos at Original Fish Company. Probably one of the best overall seafood oriented restaurant in Los Angeles. Always had a great meal. They start you out with a basket of hot fresh sourdough rolls that let you know that this is California and everything is gonna be great. We enjoyed a Caesar salad with dungeness crab. This Caesar salad is at the top of list with a great dressing and topped with that sweet dungeness crab meat. It can't be beat. I've never had Eastern Monkfish, so I wanted to try it. A fish that is so delectable. Served with some butter and you know why this fish is known as poor man's lobster. I'm usually happy with just the hot sourdough and clam chowder that is in a league of its own! Unfortunately, the service was not to the standard. Very slow pacing and the staff inattentive. Got the most delicious lobster taco for $12. The crème and cotija cheese complimented the sweet lobster - perfection ! Then I got the shrimp and scallop ceviche and was a tad disappointed...was expecting traditional ceviche with cilantro and lime juice..but this was served on a tomato broth/ salsa/sonora style..but it didn't really saw that on the menu. I have such fond memories of dining here with my parents over 20 years ago, and I'm happy to say the Original Fish Company is just as wonderful now as it was then. The seafood is incredibly fresh, and the food is every bit as good as I remembered. The bread is similar to a baguette, similar to the type of bread you would have with a clam chowder bowl, soft in the middle and hard on the outside. The clam chowder is thick & creamy, with big chunks of potatoes & clams to remind you what the sea tastes like without being overly fishy. The fish prepared either fried or grilled tastes freshly caught. I like the traditional Icelandic Cod fish and chips which is a hefty meal for one person given the starters such as the bread and chowder are consumed prior, and the mesquite grilled fish are a chef's kiss when it comes to seasoning. This has become the favorite midway spot between South OC and mid-city LA for my friend and I to meet for dinner. It's convenient to the 405 and 605 freeways and there's a large shared parking lot. The menu has a huge variety of options although we usually stick to our favorites. My friend tends towards raw oysters to start then mesquite grilled fish, and I towards Sushi rolls or New England clam chowder followed by mesquite grilled skewered shrimp. Meals come with two sides with a variety of choices or you can sub out one side for salad or chowder for an upcharge. Meals also come with hot sourdough rolls. Although the dining area is expansive we tend to sit at the bar and our bar servers tonight, Adri and Keylee both were professional, friendly and attentive. We brought our own wine and they offered to decant it. Corkage fee is $20. The Original Fish Company brings in a lot of regulars for good reason. It's seafood, so that costs more, I know. I just wish it had more going for it. The service was okay. The hostesses and server that we had were polite, but they weren't very friendly or welcoming. We came here to celebrate my mom's birthday and waited about 15-20 minutes before we were sat as there was a wait that kept growing on a Thursday night. I got the Mahi Mahi (with the option to have it mesquite-broiled with Cajun spices) and it was excellent. I also got a side half Caesar salad and spinach & artichoke casserole. Had some bits of sand in it but tasted okay. The biscuits and chowder was decent. The poached eggs were perfect and the biscuits had a layer of cheese and a piece of bacon. The chowder was a bit runnier than id like but the fresh grated pepper was a nice touch. I had my anniversary dinner here yesterday. Wow! I knew the food was awesome,but it's decorated for Valentine's Day and very nicely done. I ordered the Scallops on a skewer, with a little bacon, not exactly wrapped...as the server explained to me. It was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! My husband had calamari steak. This is one of the few places we have found this seafood item. Every entree comes with 2 delicious sides. And to top it off, they have a great selection of desserts. I had my favorite, vanilla bean ice cream. This ice cream came with a decadent dark chocolate fish on top (see pic). When we really want to treat ourselves, this is the place. Service was really slow here and we waited 30-40 minutes for a table, but they were really busy on a Saturday night, so it makes sense. Half of our entrees were good but the other half were pretty bland. The cioppino was disappointing and the garlic butter pasta, which was one of the sides for entrees, should never be ordered ever. My parents mistakingly ordered it to give to the kids but it was a tiny bowl of bland pasta noodles in a bowl of melted butter. No garlic flavor, no salt... just disgusting. If you order their grilled veggies as a side, they give you like 4-5 pieces of veggies. It's sad. It looks like it's popular though, so my review will likely not sway any opinions. I returned here with a few of my neighbors for the happy hour which is Sunday thru Friday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Along with the drink discounts is a nice selection of small plates. The bar is lively and has flat screens for sporting events and separate booths for a more intimate environment. We enjoyed oysters on a half shell, clam chowder fries, crab sliders, fried clams, jumbo shrimps and crab, shrimp, scallop ceviche & tortilla chips. We had a wonderful meal here Friday night. Our server was exceptional and it was a very elegant yet comfortable dining room. I'm glad we sat inside instead of out on the patio. We were near the bar so it felt really fun and lively but we still had privacy. After a quick consult with the server halibut vs Icelandic cod, she said absolutely halibut, I ordered the fish and chips. And added a Caesar salad. The Caesar was perfectly dressed, I think I could even taste some anchovies. Fish pieces were giant and well battered. It came with tartar sauce and malt vinegar. The chips (fries) were the kind my husband loves - thick cut. I call them mealy so not my favorite. My husband loved his monkfish and the New England clam chowder was to die for. Plus free bread! It's very rare that I give a five star review because that means that they walk on water. I have recently moved back to the orange county LA area and after living here for many years prior I never got to go to the fish company in Los Alamitos, my loss. When you walk in the door, the facility is beautiful. You have all fresh fish when you walk in, then you're taken to be seated in the restaurant whether it be the outside patio or the inside sit down. We chose the outside patio our server. Emily came immediately with a huge smile, Took our order, helped us with the menu and made sure that we were taken care of the entire time that we were there. When craving a nice atmosphere with great seafood we always find ourselves here. They always have delicious daily specials and today did not disappoint. Today I started with my usual Blue Point and Naked Cowboy oysters. They are always so fresh and taste, simply scrumptious. We also tried their fried zucchini and it was delicious. I had their Troll King Salmon special and it was cooked to perfection. It had a savory ginger soy dressing over black rice, what a great combo. Hubby had the orange roughy and it was tender and tasty. I had a Cosmo Martini and it went great with my meal. Of course we found room for dessert!
