This is our Go To spot for Filipino pastries. They are consistently fresh and delicious! They have numerous offerings. The staff is super friendly, and the store is always neat. The only drawback is that I've gone later in the day, and some of their selections are sold out.

With a very interesting history and multiple locations in the Southern California area, Luisa and Son bakery serves up a wide variety of individually wrapped Filipino bakery items for carryout. My wife, her mom, and I stopped by the Artesia location on a Saturday late morning: large selection, very crowded and busy inside, some delicious baked goods, especially their ensaimada. Luisa and Son was originally founded as a standalone restaurant in Manila in the 1950's. It was famous enough that my mother-in-law recognized it immediately, stating that it was a restaurant (not bakery) near enough to where she lived back in the home country (she immigrated in the 1960's), so wasn't sure if this was the same brand. By doing a little research, I let her know that it was: it ended up closing in 1985, and reopened in the United States in Norwalk in 1997, but this time as a bake shop. It has since expanded to 3 other locations, including this one in Artesia. Also read that due to its success, the brand re-entered the Manila market in 2010 as a bakery. As mentioned, it was super busy inside and took a while to get through the line to checkout. Everything is individually wrapped and items move fast, constantly being refreshed by harried workers. Ended up getting a variety of different baked items: Ube Ensaymada ($3.20, very good cream cheese frosting, ube bread at the bottom...one of the best ensaymadas I've had from bakeries from around here); Buko Pandan Cupcake ($2.30), Mango Mamon ($2.75), and pandesal ($4.25). Everything was good: definitely understand why it's so popular.

I've been coming here and changed a bit. Staffs are more friendly and accommodating. Yelpers: i would recommend these two for you to try. The halo- halo.. I've tried so much versions of halo halo in different stores and this is the BEST one! The ingredients is not from the JAR if you guys know what i mean. .must try.. UBE bread.. same thing! Must try BEST one!

Why is my hopia hollow inside? I was so excited to eat my hopia... took a bite... and discovered it was emotionally empty. Why did you do this to me? Why would you hurt me like this?

Here's another vote for Luisa and Son's purple perfection confection, their ube-delicious UBE HOPIA. (263)

For me, Luisa & Son was where I discovered touron and after trying touron from several other Filipino bakeries, Luisa & Son still sets the bar as the best touron in So Cal. I've tried some of the baked goodals too as I am a fan of Ube but this place is synonymous with touron for me. I did see on this visit that they have Halo Halo which I would truly next time. Didn't have time to get a ice dessert en route to my lunch. Come for the tourons. You won't be disappointed! Check out my pics. (BTW, is it just me or does the L in the logo look like an S so it's Suisa & Sons?)

My yummy treats. Thank you @Sam B

The first Luisa & Son started as a restaurant in Downtown Manila in the 60's. They closed in 1985 and made their U.S. debut in Norwalk in 1997. The Norwalk shop is still there in addition to three other locations in Cali. The family also brought back Luisa and Son to the Philippines in 2010. Even though I haven't been to this store, the lovely & sweet Sam B was gracious enough to bring myself & the darling Perez sisters a variety of goodies for us to try. My selections included an Ube Bar, Mango Polvoron, Pandan Polvoron, and a Buko Pandan Tart. The Polvoron is like a shortbread. I love shortbread and this had a good texture. It was buttery & crumbly when broken apart. They were both slightly sweet - combined with the texture & mouthfeel, these treats were irresistible. The Buko Pandan Tart had a buttery crust and a crunchy pandan filling. It also had nice flavor. The Ube Bar was moist, dense, and so yummy! I enjoyed them all and regret that I only took one of each. I guess I'll have to pay a visit to the bakery. I heard their Ube Ensaymadas are amazing! I also want to try the Cashew Caramel Bar.

Want to get your fill of Filipino baked goodies? Head to Luisa & Son for yema cake, ensaymada, hopia, mamon and all the tasty Filipino delicacies you know from back home. I love the yema cake and ensaimada rolls! The ube hopia is just okay though.. They also sell chocnut, Cheese Whiz cheese pimiento spread, lumpia, turon, baked siopao and all the goodies. Kind of reminds me of Valerio's bakery! Did I mention that they also sell Day old baked goodies for half the price? Make sure you go through that section because it's still good for 2 days upon purchase!

Snack they are selling is expired for more than 4 years now

Now I forgot how roomy this place is, It's super clean and a great place for a quiet hang out with friends. It was pretty busy when I came which was around 10 am. The drinks were the most ordered from what I've seen. I ordered my drink and it was actually prepared already but my buzzer never rang. I watched what I thought would be my coffee stay there thinking it may be someone else because my buzzer had no buzzed at all. I finally went up to ask where my coffee is just for them to hand me the coffee and say they are waiting on my bread. What bread? It's literally in the bag that I'm holding. So that kind of annoyed me. But things happen. Service was still good like last time. The garlic and cream cheese bread threw me off. The saltiness of the garlic bread with sweet cream cheese worked really well. However there was a bit too much sweet cream cheese for my liking but a combination that worked. The mochi corn had custard and corn. It was pretty good. Not something I'd be addicted to. But it was good. The sweet potato was disappointing. The sweet potato inside tasted like regular potato. Not very sweet. Overall my experience did get better. I want to try these butter mochi I saw next time I go.

I've always loved walking in there, inhaling the oven-fresh aromas like a FIEND, ever since I was in grade school-- I'll turn 51 in a few days. You have ONE slice of their special occasion shortcakes (strawberry, mango, and I think one more variety), and you instantly become a new customer--this has been their calling card for DECADES, and they EXPONENTIALLY grow their clientele with each cake sold (potentially a new customer per slice). Their customers are SO loyal that--as far as I can tell--Honey Bakery isn't even on social media--word-of-mouth, even in 2026, is all that's needed--their baked goods speak for themselves. I highly-recommend their MILK BREAD (you'll be willing to make a special trip here, SOLELY to pick up a bag or two)--if you're a bread-lover, you'll find their freshly+baked loaves to smell intoxicating, and let's see if you can stop yourself from snacking on JUST one slice, right out of the bag....they're REALLY addictive. They come THICK- and THIN-SLICED, but thick especially sells out quickly by mid-morning, so CALL AHEAD & RESERVE your order. Every time I've gotten a pastry from here in the last 5-8 years they have slowly gotten more and more dense lol. I used to love their pork sung pastry too, but now it's a pork sung dense bread with a pastry blanket on top. This is a mom and pop shop so I feel like they either hired a new baker or one took over and has a taste for very dense bread and textures... honestly texture is not bad, but way too filling and heavy for me.

The tasting was so, so good and we cannot wait to order more future cakes from here to try all the different flavors of the cakes they make here! We ended up ordering the mawa malai and Ferrero rocher flavors for our wedding cake and additional the mango mousse and chocolate flavored bite size pastries. I provided a reference photo of what we wanted our cake to look like and it came out even more beautiful than the reference!!! There were no crumbs leftover from both the cake and the pastries! Our guests kept complementing how beautiful our cake was and they absolutely LOVED our cakes and couldn't stop talking about how moist, light, and flavorful our cakes were!
