You rarely reserved in advance and there were relatively few chains besides Holiday Inn and Best Western. Everyone carried AE Travelers Cheques. That illuminated "Vacancy" sign from the highway let you know there was a room to be had for weary travelers. Well, this is it. I wanted a hotel about an hour south of Utica for a particular night to avoid too much driving the next morning. Sidney/Bainbridge was exactly the spot on my route. I'd booked it over the Super 8 on the highway based on reviews and not wanting to detour all the way to Oneonta since my reason was to save time the next morning. I arrived at 10:30pm, as planned. You call a number from the office and the owner/family/staff "come down" and check you in. They actually live there--great safety feature for a female traveling alone. My room was clean and very comfortable, if spare and exactly as advertised. Great value too. It did not smell musty. Bath amenities and towels were nice quality. It had a microwave and refrigerator and flat-screen TV, but sadly no coffee maker or even a glass or ceramic coffee mug to heat water (I'd brought a tea bag...), sigh. I'm quite sure they'd have accommodated a request, but I wasn't going to ask at 10:45pm. I will confirm some other reviews: it does seem to cater to people who work on the road and get up early. I suspect some are regulars M-Thurs. There appeared to be a communal space with a gas grill outside (great for group travelers or work teams). I did hear the person in the room above me--not loud or annoying, but it might be for someone not used to apartment living. A freight train came by at 6:30am (I'd gotten up at 6, so no big deal). There are no late night dining options, but there are some gas station/markets to procure something if you need and didn't bring. Early the next morning I awoke to some bird song. The Susquehanna River is literally just behind the motel (well down hill--no flood worries and the river was in flood-emergency when I was there). The delightful surprise was the cute coffee and breakfast/lunch options in Bainbridge, which I definitely recommend. If you're early enough in the evening, there are plenty of dinner options. Because of the proximity to parks and natural areas, this would be a fantastic vacation motel for several days or even a week on a limited budget. Suggestions for improvement: coffee mugs and coffee maker in the room and a black-out curtain for the front window. I turned out the porch light in front of my door, but the light from the neighboring door was on all night and illuminated my room from the gaps in the shade. Reading previous reviews we were on the lookout for a gravel unpaved road leading up to the lodge. To our surprise, the gravel road folks grumbled about in previous reviews has been paved into a proper road with lights on the left side of the path to guide your way in the evening. as it was a Friday in August most of the families that stayed for the week for dreampark had checked out and I believe there were 20 rooms booked for the weekend. We were greeted by a friendly young man who was courteous and enthusiastic. The lodge was more than accommodating with an early check in (we called ahead to confirm it was ok) and we were given a room with 2 king sized beds, a kitchenette and a spacious bathroom. As our experiences with hotels this summer was less then spectacular I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the room and that the filters in the air conditioning unit seem to be regularly cleaned. No musty odors, cobwebs or dust to be found in the room. the kitchenette was spotless with 2 electric stove burners, microwave, sink, and mini fridge. I checked in with the yelp app (they have free wifi) and noticed there was a 15% discount upon check in. I went back to the front office and asked the young man who seemed confused and said he'd inquire. Quite honestly at this point I couldn't care less. If we got it, great but the experience and the lodge already proved themselves to be worth the price. Our next stop was the hot tub and pool. Outdoor and overlooking a stunning mountain view it was hard to pry ourselves away after a couple of hours to shower and go eat. We talked with the young man at the front desk regarding the dinner options in the area and decided on the red shed. I would have checked in at the red shed but there was no reception in the area. After dinner, we came back to a lighted path leading us to the lodge and found another equally as pleasant young man on the night shift. we inquired about the fire pit and if there would be one that evening. He jumped up and led us outside and got a fire going! Sitting outside in adirondack chairs sipping wine in cooperstown on a clear night has got to be one of the most awe inspiring view my eyes have ever witnessed. There isn't a constellation in the sky that hides from your view. You feel both amazed and a part of something much greater than your own existence. We were truly grateful at the chance to witness such a beautiful site atop the mountain. Our beds were as comfortable as they appeared and the room was equipped with directTV for our viewing pleasure. In the morning we woke up early to see the sunrise over the mountains (pics posted), had coffee and a continental breakfast in their main area behind the check in area. it was quaint, relaxing and had a screen room with rhododendron chairs that were comfortable and funky. I couldn't recommend this place more for a relaxing stay. Side note: they do have a game room with a couple of coin operated games and an air hockey table along with a swing set for the kids out front. We didn't get to utlize the spa, but heard the masseuse was good at her craft. *After leaving we received a call from the sister of the young man who checked us in. She figured out the yelp discount and applied it to our account. Thank you August lodge for not only the great relaxing stay but the follow through. worth the visit, just make sure there's availability as it fills up during peak baseball season. highly recommended for dreampark families.

From our first interaction with the owner, Becky, we had nothing but an incredible experience. We called to book the weekend, and since it was after the high season of summer, she gave us a special rate for two nights in the Honeymoon Suite. We sent her in a deposit, and called her the day of to confirm the best time of arrival. She was completely casual and accommodating and said to just stop by whenever. When we showed up, she gave us the tour of the Suite, which turned out to be the entire basement of her home! We had a private entrance, a working fireplace, a full ensuite bathroom with an incredible shower setup, a huge sectional sofa that could have fit at least eight people, a master bedroom with a queen size bed, as well as a second twin bedroom that we did not even use. Perfect if we ever go back and bring more guests with us! After we unpacked Becky invited us upstairs for wine and cheese with the other guests. I thought that sort of thing only happened in movies! She gave us some great recommendations for places to go for dinner, and asked what time we would like breakfast in the morning. When we said we were flexible, she said warmly, "well that works for me, you don't need reservations here!" The next morning we had delicious, strong coffee, I had eggs with green peppers and onions with oat nut toast, and my boyfriend had stuffed French Toast, two huge slices of Italian bread glued together with fresh sliced strawberries and ricotta cheese. We even started the meal with two generous slices of banana cream cheese coffee cake, some of the moistest, sweetest start to breakfast that we have ever had. Later that afternoon, she invited us back up to the kitchen for tea, and, you guessed it, slices of the leftover cake. For our second day, she surprised us with souffle apple pancakes, a cross between an apple pie and a pancake, a delicious, buttery, crusty sweet and savory concoction made in a cast iron skillet. Not only that, but since we were the only guests that morning, we had to eat the entire sinful cylinder ourselves - oh well! We washed it down once more with plenty of delicious coffee and some of her homemade sausage that was made locally. The estate her house is on is simply gorgeous, and is adjacent to rolling green pastures where her horses live. While there is no horseback riding (bummer), you can walk up to the fence to see them grazing and take some breath taking pictures. Her dog, Milo, a Sheltie, is a delightful host's accomplice, who loves to play fetch and get petted. We had a lovely, relaxing weekend in the country at Becky's Bed and Breakfast, and cannot wait for next fall when we return.

Fieldstone Farm is a breath of fresh air in a world full of cookie-cutter hotels and motels. You can stay in a cabin, or one of the other townhouses in the middle of "Farm Central" upstate New York. I always see a multitude of wildlife. They just got a new boat with a shade for the big pond, so you can hang out all day on the water without getting sunburn. They have some nice amenities like a tennis court, volleyball court, basketball court, game room/arcade, a nice size in the ground outdoor pool, billiards room and another smaller pond for fishing. There's a nice rolling stream too. The view from the top of the hill is absolutely stunning. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. Pictures don't do it justice. I can't wait to go back.

Initially I had wanted to stay on the water, but we took the "road less traveled" and so glad we did. It is a serene and peaceful location. Once we figured out the route we found it to be quite convenient to Cooperstown and surrounding attractions, and the views are magnificent. The stars at night were incredible. I loved the area and was glad to be away from the traffic and congestion up and down the lakefront. The owners of the Fieldstone Farm, John and Jeannie, were very friendly and accommodating. Between the waterfalls, game room, Netflix, life-sized chess, foosball, air hockey, the Crooked Cabana bar, hot tub, and dry sauna -- this place truly has it all. A special thank you to Chuck for making our Mother's Day weekend even more memorable than we could have imagined.
