My girlfriend, ten-year-old son and I stayed here for two nights over Memorial Day Weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious and clean (though a little musty when we first arrived). We couldn't get the tv to work, though not a big deal (and I'm sure they would have been helpful had we asked about it). The property itself is the real draw. High in a valley, it is surrounded by forest and has great views of the valley below. We enjoyed the heated pool and hot tub, and made a fire one night in the fire pit with wood they provided. They also have two gas grills and picnic tables, though we didn't use these. The breakfast was pretty basic but still filling, though seating is limited inside and the screened in porch is not heated. Overall a great place to stay when visiting Cooperstown and the surrounding area. Can definitely recommend to others. read more

August Lodge in cooperstown was a friday date night destination. My mother in law resides in cooperstown so we dropped the little one off early and had a day to ourselves at this beautiful mountain getaway. Reading previous reviews we were on the lookout for a gravel unpaved road leading up to the lodge. To our surprise, the gravel road folks grumbled about in previous reviews has been paved into a proper road with lights on the left side of the path to guide your way in the evening. as it was a Friday in August most of the families that stayed for the week for dreampark had checked out and I believe there were 20 rooms booked for the weekend. We were greeted by a friendly young man who was courteous and enthusiastic. The lodge was more than accommodating with an early check in (we called ahead to confirm it was ok) and we were given a room with 2 king sized beds, a kitchenette and a spacious bathroom. As our experiences with hotels this summer was less then spectacular I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the room and that the filters in the air conditioning unit seem to be regularly cleaned. No musty odors, cobwebs or dust to be found in the room. the kitchenette was spotless with 2 electric stove burners, microwave, sink, and mini fridge. I checked in with the yelp app (they have free wifi) and noticed there was a 15% discount upon check in. I went back to the front office and asked the young man who seemed confused and said he'd inquire. Quite honestly at this point I couldn't care less. If we got it, great but the experience and the lodge already proved themselves to be worth the price. Our next stop was the hot tub and pool. Outdoor and overlooking a stunning mountain view it was hard to pry ourselves away after a couple of hours to shower and go eat. We talked with the young man at the front desk regarding the dinner options in the area and decided on the red shed. I would have checked in at the red shed but there was no reception in the area. After dinner, we came back to a lighted path leading us to the lodge and found another equally as pleasant young man on the night shift. we inquired about the fire pit and if there would be one that evening. He jumped up and led us outside and got a fire going! Sitting outside in adirondack chairs sipping wine in cooperstown on a clear night has got to be one of the most awe inspiring view my eyes have ever witnessed. There isn't a constellation in the sky that hides from your view. You feel both amazed and a part of something much greater than your own existence. We were truly grateful at the chance to witness such a beautiful site atop the mountain. Our beds were as comfortable as they appeared and the room was equipped with directTV for our viewing pleasure. In the morning we woke up early to see the sunrise over the mountains (pics posted), had coffee and a continental breakfast in their main area behind the check in area. it was quaint, relaxing and had a screen room with rhododendron chairs that were comfortable and funky. I couldn't recommend this place more for a relaxing stay. Side note: they do have a game room with a couple of coin operated games and an air hockey table along with a swing set for the kids out front. We didn't get to utlize the spa, but heard the masseuse was good at her craft. *After leaving we received a call from the sister of the young man who checked us in. She figured out the yelp discount and applied it to our account. Thank you August lodge for not only the great relaxing stay but the follow through. worth the visit, just make sure there's availability as it fills up during peak baseball season. highly recommended for dreampark families. read more

Nice hotel off the beat and path. The rooms were very clean. The place gives a mixed message between a nice cabin in the woods or a luxury hotel. The gravel road was off putting and hard to find at night. The views from the balcony were stunning. The breakfast was good but not substantial. The WiFi did not work and the cable tv not great. Hardly received any channels, not even the local major networks. That made no sense. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and could possibly return again. read more

Such a disappointment ...everyone that works at this hotel,including the owner,seems to be possessed by a zombie cult. It is in no way,as described, a luxury hotel. The towels and linens were a quality that is expected for the cost per day.But were ways wet from the outdoor humidity and loud,inefficient air conditioner. "Breakfast" was comprised of cold cereal, muffins and either not ripe or too ripe bananas. The single serve coffee was good. Lowest level cable TV was provided...no news or major networks. The true heads up here is that the 1/4 mile winding driveway is un paved dirt filled gravel....what a mess!!! The pool was nice,clean and very small. Our thought is that we would never stay here again. Dreams parents look elsewhere. read more

Off the beaten path but worth it. I don't know how I found August lodge when looking for accommodations for my husband and I for a little weekend get away but so happy I did! For about the same cost as a motel/holiday inn, August Lodge provides a friendly staff, clean and spacious rooms with a mini kitchen, and balcony, and beautiful views of upstate NY. My only complaint and this is if I had to fish for one is the dirt driveway leading up to the lodge bc my car was simply filthy by the end of the trip...but really, that's small potatoes About a 10 min drive if even into the center of Cooperstown, August lodge provides privacy, space, and quiet. Breakfast provided in the morning (cereal, fruit, yogurt, muffins), coffee available all day. There is a nice pool and spa on site as well but we did not take advantage of this feature. If we head back to Cooperstown, I know where we will be staying! read more

Great location. Very peaceful high in the valley. ~13 min to Cooperstown for HOF visit. Nice coffee shop, grocery, breweries and fast food nearby. Rooms are oversized hotel rooms. Useful kitchenette with regular coffee machine and toaster, stovetop, small fridge and sink. Silverware, dishes for 4, pans and dish soap provided. Liked that the room has a pullout single si both our kids could have their own bed. Each room has a nice -sized outdoor sitting area with Adirondack chairs, great for breakfast/coffee or playing cards, while listening to nature. During COVID, no breakfast served by lodge and spa and hot tub were closed but not major issues. Pool is open and you can still enjoy nightly campfire under the stars. If you have kids, they have a small playset and equipment for a wiffle ball game. Also have tetherball and horseshoes. If you're coming for baseball, this is a great location. Easy to do a cookout, close to the fields and room for the kids to play. Has a washer and dryer onsite. read more

I recently spent three nights at August Lodge with my wife and 9 yr old son to visit the Hall of Fame and get out of NYC for a few days. This place blew away my expectations. The views alone are worth it. Now add the comfortable and well-appointed rooms, the pool, and the hospitality. The owner was working when we were there, and he was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area and had great advice. We especially appreciated his time to set up the fire pit for us on our last night there so that we could make s'mores and just talk into the night. We are even planning a return trip in just a few weeks so we can experience August Lodge in the Fall. Also (and this is a compliment): our TV cable box wasn't working when we arrived in the evening. The front desk attendant actually called the owner at home and he helped her fix it over the phone in about 6 minutes. August Lodge goes from a 4 star to a 5 star hotel for me due to how quickly this was resolved. read more

We rented out August Lodge for our wedding weekend and I couldn't be more thrilled with a wedding venue. The grounds have a beautiful view. Every room has outdoor access, whether a patio, or a balcony. Most of our guests were able to stay on site. The only thing they don't have is a lot of indoor communal space, such as a bar or restaurant. read more

Recently stayed here on a weekend trip to Cooperstown and wasn't disappointed. The lodge is rustic and comfortable, and it's situated ontop of a gorgeous hilltop. Our room had a balcony and an fantastic view. There are grills and firepits you can use, and the staff are very accommodating. About 10 minutes from the Hall of Fame. read more

I cannot begin to explain how much I enjoyed my stay here! It was just for one night, but my boyfriend and I came here for my 23rd birthday to visit Ommegang and get away from NYC for the evening. The room itself was extremely clean with a massive and shockingly comfortable bed- I seriously slept so well on this. We went out to the brewery for most of the evening and then the two of us and my other two friends came back to the hotel. Earlier I had asked the caretaker at the hotel if they could please set up a fire for us out in the backyard, and when we came back they had set up a beautiful fire pit! We sat out here with beer around the fire and just chatted for hours and roasted marshmallows, it was such a nice treat. The hotel workers had gone so above and beyond for us. I felt so spoiled and had such an amazing night, I've even suggested my boss go here because I enjoyed my stay so much! Cannot wait to go back! read more

I recently stayed at the August Lodge and I was nothing but pleased with my experience there. the view was absolutely OUTSTANDING and the staff was so accommadating and helpful. There is a fire every night at 7pm sharp where we roasted marshmellows. On Thursday nights you can even see the fireworks from a nearby baseball park!!! The sheets DID slip off the beds but other than that, the beds were SOooooo Comfortable! It the only place in the area that you're going to find with a view and atmosphere such as that. Everyone from the housekeepers to the groundskeepers were so pleasant and friendly. The girl at front desk even kept our fire alive for us so we didn't have to touch a single log! I definitely recommend this lodge to anyone and everyone that may happen upon the area! read more

DAN & ELLE COGLIANO, NYC, NY September 2016 We have now been staying at August Lodge for 9 consecutive years when we come up for out September Cooperstown Baseball Tournament. The Majority of my teammates and their wives stay here as well per our recommendation. We love the service, the pool, the jacuzzi, the game room and especially the gorgeous views. Owner Steve has been incredibly accommodating to us all of these years. In addition, we always have a team Barbecue and Fire. This is one of the greatest aspects of the Lodge. We all sit around and enjoy the Fire and the fresh air and the food and the delightful country smells and mountain views. The Lodge is only about a 7-8 minute ride into Cooperstown and the Hall of Fame and Doubleday stadium. So it is not at all inconvenient. Again, the accommodations are great, the views are great and the service is outstanding. One final thing: 2 weeks ago during our stay here, my wife was at our baseball game in Cooperstown watching us play. She suddenly noticed that she had lost the Diamond to her engagement ring. She immediately called the Lodge as she was completely unnerved. Within 10 minutes, they located the diamond, contacted her and had it waiting for her at the front desk. Our room was beautiful, spotless (which is extremely important having children with you). All of the rooms had a lovely view. Loved the unique paintings on each door. What a wonderful place. We have stayed at August Lodge many times and did again just recently. It's one of our very favorite places. This is no run of the mill hotel. Everything about it is beautiful and unique. The view and setting are magnificent. The rooms and lobby etc. all have creative touches. While I have stayed at August Lodge a number of times, and never been disappointed, I wanted to make a comment and thank the owner and their stff for their tremendous efforts to see to our comfort when we were 'trapped' at the lodge due to Tropical Storm Lee and all local roads being closed. My sisters and I took a few days for our 'sisters weekend' and although the storm could have made our stay miserable, we were delighted with the service and accommodations made for us to ensure we enjoyed out stay even under extenuating circumstances. The staff went 'above and beyond' to ensure that we had access to the pool and hot tub when there were breaks in the rain, we had internet so we could try to keep up with family and friends who were effected by the floods, watching the water rise near our homes was tough, but at least we could see what was happening. One of the staff even ran to town to buy cigarettes for us! August Lodge is situated close to Cooperstown and Oneonta. It is a rustic log building with a hot tub, pool, spa, common area that is very nice and the views are unbeatable. I always look forward to my next opportunity to stay here! My family had a great time this past Memorial Day weekend staying at August Lodge. The setting is truly breathtaking. It brought back happy memories of being at sleep away camp. Our rooms were exceptionally clean, beautifully appointed and very comfortable. We enjoyed the heated pool and a long walk on a quiet, tree lined road. The staff was very accommodating and the host, Steve, gave us great suggestions of what to do in the area--and he has a great sense of humor. The whole experience was positive and we would highly recommend staying here. We'll be back again, for sure. read more
