    Illegal charges

Illegally charged me $50 to clean hair from a service dog. Refused to give me back my money even after telling them that it was illegal to charge money for cleaning hair from a service dog as long as they didn't damage the room. They actually hung up the phone on me and refused to talk to me. They said their was hair on the bed. Filed a BBB claim and they ignored it. https://www.ada.gov/resources/service-animals-faqs/ Q12. Can hotels charge a cleaning fee for guests who have service animals? A. No. Hotels are not permitted to charge guests for cleaning the hair or dander shed by a service animal. However, if a guest's service animal causes damages to a guest room, a hotel is permitted to charge the same fee for damages as charged to other guests. They are not service dog friendly.

    King Suite
    Matt N.

My wife and I were planning an adventure weekend and we needed to find a place to stay for one night. I booked a King sized suite here about 3 weeks in advance and got a good price on it. I've never used Super 8 before but I saw some good reviews about this one so I thought it's just one night let's try them out. This Super 8's location is good and bad. It's good because it is right off the highway. It's easier to get into this hotel than to leave. What I mean is to get back onto the highway after you leave the parking area you have to drive down the opposite direction and make a U-turn to get back onto the highway ramp. The property is crammed into a corner too. It's a small parking lot and a small property. This isn't a negative for me but you do feel like you're jammed in a corner from outside. I walked in to check in and it was a nice little lobby area. It wasn't busy and it only took me a few minutes to check in. The guy at the front desk was nice. Our room was on the first floor all the way at the end of the hall. There was a door at the end that we could easily get to our car which was nice. The only thing is the door wouldn't open for us from the outside getting in. We asked for another key but it still didn't work so it must have been the door. Onto the room. It was a nice spacious suite. The king sized bed looked nice, there was Jacuzzi, and a full bath with a double sink in the hall. When you first walk in you think the room looks really nice and part of it was. Looking closer there were some good things and some bad. The good things were that the bed was big, comfy, and clean. The pillows were nice and fluffy and I have no complaints about the bed. I did like the layout of the room too. It was very spacious. We could have played flag football in there! I think the service in the hotel was good. We didn't have that much interaction with the staff. I asked for more towels and other accessories and they gave them to me with no problem. Onto some negatives. We were on the first floor and when you open our nice big window you can see peoples backyards really close by. They could see us and we could see them. So we just closed the curtains but it would have been nice to be able to open them up and have some privacy still. The bathtub, toilet area, and Jacuzzi didn't look to clean. I'm sure somebody cleaned them but it looked like it was a quick clean. We found some hair in the Jacuzzi yuck! We did a little cleaning for ourselves to feel a little more comfortable but that was a negative. The other negative was their water pipes and hot water. Whenever you turned on their hot water the pipes would make some loud sounds. It didn't bother me too much during the day but in the morning it was very annoying. The day before we had a big day so we were tired and were going to sleep in. By 6am you could hear other rooms in the hotel taking showers because of their pipes being loud from the hot water. I was so tired I was able to sleep through it and my wife is a deeper sleeper but I could hear those pipes all morning. So overall it was an ok hotel. The negatives that I mentioned earlier will have my wife and I looking at other hotels when we are in town next.

Just checked in. Hotels.com said we could have adjoining rooms. This hotel has none. The lobby area was clean. Staff was friendly. Our room is AWFUL!!! I don't know how in the world I'm going to sleep here tonight. The beds are rock hard. The pillows are flat. There are only three rough small towels to shower with. When I walked into the bathroom the toilet seat was up and there was toilet paper floating in the bowl. No soap either except the free wrapped small squares that many hotels offer. I guess you get what you pay for but a working smoke detector should be a given. Our 2nd floor smoke detector is dangling from the ceiling by a thin wire. This is a serious safety violation. Ridiculous!

    Madr himself right at home.

Apparently it actually is because there was a poster near the elevators that indicated that Hampton inn was voted the best in the world. It also won like a best hotel in West Virginia award also. Who knew? Right off the highway, restaurants literally basically just off the edge of the property including, and I would like to highlight, TACO BELL. Room was decently sized, about average. Beds were comfortable. TV was smaller than I have expected recently and I don't recall them having the option of connecting Netflix or any other streaming services which is nice, relying on what is on cable at that particular moment is a drag and I don't know how we did it for so long. Towels were plentiful. Shower was nice. Multiple mirrors arranged in just a way that your partner can watch you on the toilet from the bed if you leave the door open, as we discovered. I'll spare you the photos that were taken. Not a bad choice.

The staff is always super friendly and goes above and beyond. I can't speak on how great they are to me and my pup! This time I got there and other people's stuff was still in the room. I called down and they immediately took action to correct it and got me a new room. I honestly can't say enough about this hotel. I stay there every time I'm there-- they have snacks (you pay for) and everything that you could want when you go back. The hotel is also within a mile drive of a Sheetz if you want selections! The main thing is that the hotel has a shuttle to help get you around if you are doing things that involve drinking so you don't have to drive since Uber is not a prominent staple in this area.

The key part was a room with 3 beds for our family and decently clean. This ticked those boxes. We got a large room with table and 3 beds (with the sofa). The sofa bed was a trundle bed, not fold out, which was odd, but ended up being maybe a bit easier. The whole room seemed more run down than you might expect for the price ($175/night with taxes), but it wasn't actively dirty anywhere and the staff was all friendly. The room had a decent view of mountains and trees changing colors and the view was better from other places including the parking lot. The room had hot breakfast along with continental staples of bananas, toast, bagels, and things. The hot things were mediocre eggs and paper-thin bacon, which was at least something that wasn't pure carbs. There was no waffle iron even thought that's become a bit of a staple.

The front desk agent didn't set up my key properly so after a long day of driving, I attempted to enter my room only to realize the key didn't work. I had to go back to the front desk to have it resolved and didn't even receive an apology. When I finally got into the room, it was super dated with dirty mirrors and sticky walls. The shampoo dispenser was empty and the shower tub combo had rust all over. The A/C was so dusty and the windows have never been cleaned. I barely slept in the dingy bed with lumpy pillows, but woke up with the worst allergies. I really wish we could've driven just an hour further into Pittsburgh instead of this crapshoot.

I found Bonnie Dwaine through Yelp, and I am so glad that we chose to stay here! From the moment we arrived, the house was perfect for our stay. Our room was on the third floor, and was renovated with a king sized bed. The bed was extremely comfy, the space was large, and we had our own bathroom as well. We chose this space for the king bed, but although it was very nice it was missing the vintage/historic feel of the other rooms located on the second floor. This room was HUGE, and would be great for a family. If we stay again, I would love to spend time in one of the other rooms, they were all so beautiful and historic. Bonnie was a fantastic host. She was so kind, friendly, and extremely thoughtful. She had a lovely home, and took great pride in making her guests feel welcome and comfortable. The breakfast that was served was fantastic, and she even made us breakfast for the morning that we slept in, and had it sitting out for us with a note when we were finally able to make it downstairs to the dining room. 5 stars for the bed and breakfast, 5 stars for friendly Bonnie, and 5 stars for the location! Amazing Mexican restaurant nearby, and the Moundsville museum is free to guests - located minutes from B&B.

I have been going to Oglebay since I was very little, and still continue to visit due to my grandparents living there... but I will say the kids Park absolutely needs renovated. There are so many trip hazards and the entire park is very old and has outdated play equipment. I highly suggest they take some of the funds that they receive for Oglebay and put it into making a new park for the kids. The paddle boats and all the new updated activities are great, but for kids to play at the park, safely, that should be the next focus. As you can see in my photos, every season is gorgeous, and the walking trails throughout are really nice for exercise. There's a restaurant now located on the grounds, I would say it's a little overpriced, but the food is good. I've stayed in the room several times over the years, and some of them are old and outdated, and some of them are really nice and new. I appreciate both. No matter what, they always keep the hotel portion clean. I would say the hot tub seems to have some issues here and there, that pool and hot tub have been there since before I can remember. There's new restaurants inside of the lodge as well, and they also have ravenous reviews. Christmas time is always beautiful, and the beautiful bloom of the flowers during spring is quite a sight to see. Apparently, the zoo will now have lions and beekeeper, I'm excited to take my baby to visit this spring! If you're thinking about visiting, do not hesitate you will enjoy it as much as my family I have for many decades.

If you have young children in town, Schenk Lake is a nice spot for a short boat ride or to try fishing! Originally a private country estate of 750 acres purchased in 1901 by Earl W. Oglebay, he donated the land to the City of Wheeling in 1928 to create a public park and education center. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) helped to build out the trails in the 1930s. Overall, it may be worth a stop here if you have young kids. However, I found the park to be kind of "meh" due to a lack of scenic views. At the end of the day, it's just a nice public park.

My family and I (including our 12 year old and 9 month old) stayed at this location last night. Around midnight, my 12 year old woke up scared, saying that an ant was crawling on her in the bed. I got up to check, and noticed a very small bug, the shape of an apple seed. I killed it, looked around for more but didn't see any, then told my child to go back to sleep. Early the next morning, my partner who was sleeping in the other bed jumped up because she felt something crawling on her face. She knocked it off and looked on the sheet to find a BIG bug, the same shape as the little one we saw in the other bed hours earlier. I looked up the description online and sure enough it was a bedbug. When we notified the front desk the were unapologetic, and told me, "if you want to leave, you can leave". They said they wouldn't charge us for the nights stay but we would have to wait two days for the credit. I asked to speak to a Mgr and was told because it was a Saturday, there were none available. After I insisted to speak to a Mgr, the person at the front desk called the assistant Mgr at home. The assistant Mgr. was even less helpful. When I asked how Hawthorn planned to compensate my family who now was 6 hours from home with nowhere to stay, the Mgr said the incident was not their fault and sarcastically asked if we would like to stay another night in their hotel. Needless to say, my family and I had to leave, find a new hotel and are still waiting for the $228 hold to be removed from our credit card. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
