Illegally charged me $50 to clean hair from a service dog. Refused to give me back my money even after telling them that it was illegal to charge money for cleaning hair from a service dog as long as they didn't damage the room. They actually hung up the phone on me and refused to talk to me. They said their was hair on the bed. Filed a BBB claim and they ignored it. https://www.ada.gov/resources/service-animals-faqs/ Q12. Can hotels charge a cleaning fee for guests who have service animals? A. No. Hotels are not permitted to charge guests for cleaning the hair or dander shed by a service animal. So in town for a night, and we reserved a room here primarily because it was the only place we found locally that had a private Jacuzzi tub that wasn't out of this world expensive. When we first arrived you get a sense the place has seen better days. The parking lot is crazy since it runs on a one way highway and you have to basically drive down the road make a bunch of turns to come back up the road. Location was tricky, and as far as view, well if you like looking out your first floor window at a street with trash cans littering it than this is your place! Ok it wasn't all bad. As mentioned it was on the cheaper side, but not alarmingly cheap that would make you question the sleeping quarters. The place is mainly just a little run down. Our room was spacious and bed was clean and comfy. The not so clean things, the Jacuzzi tub. It needed to be "re-cleaned", and the floor in the bathroom had hair on it. Not just a strand, like a glob of it on the floor. Kind of gross. We got these issues taken care of and everything else seemed good. Yes good until you take a shower, or any of your neighbors takes a shower. Loudest. Pipes. Ever. What is going on here?! They have some plumbing issues they really should sort out. Would I stay here again? Eh probably not. It wasn't terrible, but still. On the other side of this coin the staff was pleasant and accommodating. read more

My wife and I were planning an adventure weekend and we needed to find a place to stay for one night. I booked a King sized suite here about 3 weeks in advance and got a good price on it. I've never used Super 8 before but I saw some good reviews about this one so I thought it's just one night let's try them out. This Super 8's location is good and bad. It's good because it is right off the highway. It's easier to get into this hotel than to leave. What I mean is to get back onto the highway after you leave the parking area you have to drive down the opposite direction and make a U-turn to get back onto the highway ramp. The property is crammed into a corner too. It's a small parking lot and a small property. This isn't a negative for me but you do feel like you're jammed in a corner from outside. I walked in to check in and it was a nice little lobby area. It wasn't busy and it only took me a few minutes to check in. The guy at the front desk was nice. Our room was on the first floor all the way at the end of the hall. There was a door at the end that we could easily get to our car which was nice. The only thing is the door wouldn't open for us from the outside getting in. We asked for another key but it still didn't work so it must have been the door. Onto the room. It was a nice spacious suite. The king sized bed looked nice, there was Jacuzzi, and a full bath with a double sink in the hall. When you first walk in you think the room looks really nice and part of it was. Looking closer there were some good things and some bad. The good things were that the bed was big, comfy, and clean. The pillows were nice and fluffy and I have no complaints about the bed. I did like the layout of the room too. It was very spacious. We could have played flag football in there! I think the service in the hotel was good. We didn't have that much interaction with the staff. I asked for more towels and other accessories and they gave them to me with no problem. Onto some negatives. We were on the first floor and when you open our nice big window you can see peoples backyards really close by. They could see us and we could see them. So we just closed the curtains but it would have been nice to be able to open them up and have some privacy still. The bathtub, toilet area, and Jacuzzi didn't look to clean. I'm sure somebody cleaned them but it looked like it was a quick clean. We found some hair in the Jacuzzi yuck! We did a little cleaning for ourselves to feel a little more comfortable but that was a negative. The other negative was their water pipes and hot water. Whenever you turned on their hot water the pipes would make some loud sounds. It didn't bother me too much during the day but in the morning it was very annoying. The day before we had a big day so we were tired and were going to sleep in. By 6am you could hear other rooms in the hotel taking showers because of their pipes being loud from the hot water. I was so tired I was able to sleep through it and my wife is a deeper sleeper but I could hear those pipes all morning. So overall it was an ok hotel. The negatives that I mentioned earlier will have my wife and I looking at other hotels when we are in town next. read more

Stayed at this super 8 to break up the drive from Chicago to DC. Was a great option for what we needed! Staff was friendly, check in was easy, the room was clean, bed comfortable. Wifi and breakfast were included in our ~$60 room rate. Breakfast was actually great for a super 8. Make your own waffles, Greek yogurt, cereal, toast, juice, coffee. It definitely wasn't a 5 star hotel but for $60 a night was more than acceptable. Would definitely stay here again to break up the long drive. The entrance to the parking lot is a little tricky but if you miss it coming from 70 at least you'll get to check out the odd little scuba diving school down the street. read more

Avoid this place!!!! If you stay here, watch your bill and your credit card for unexpected fees. I stayed here for one night in July. I was in the middle of a road trip and I needed a place to sleep. I checked in at around midnight, and I was gone by 7:30 the next morning. The room was worn around the edges, but clean enough. Uneventful stay.....or so I thought. Several days after my stay I got an e-mailed copy of the bill. There was an unexpected $50 line item for a screen fee. I called and spoke with one of the owners who accused me of "punching" the window screen out. I explained that not only did I not do that, I never even touched the window. I don't even know for sure if the window is capable of opening. The owner was extremely rude, and refused to accept that it was even possible that the window screen fell without being "punched". The owner was aggressive and confrontational, and unwilling to listen to reason. I couldn't believe that I was being held responsible for a maintenance issue outside of the room. I did not damage anything at this place, I'm 100% sure. This was my first, and last, experience with a super 8 - but given that it is advertised as being associated with Wyndham I gave it a try. If you call Wyndham to complain they will explain to you that they cannot help because this is an independently owned location. I don't know why the place is branded Wyndham if they have no involvement with it at all. Basically the Wyndham name gives undeserved credibility to what is basically a small family owned independent motel. I've waited to write this review until I was absolutely sure that the outcome was final. I have no recourse to get my money back other than small claims court which is simply not worth it. The hotel worked with me after I booked in the wrong area for a family emergency. The front office was friendly and easy to deal with. They were helping with directions and finding sites. The Super 8 was clean and comfortable. It is a good value for the traveler looking to stop over. The parking is a little tight, nothing that I worried about. It is right off I-70, so easy off and on. Just checked in. Hotels.com said we could have adjoining rooms. This hotel has none. The lobby area was clean. Staff was friendly. Our room is AWFUL!!! I don't know how in the world I'm going to sleep here tonight. The beds are rock hard. The pillows are flat. There are only three rough small towels to shower with. When I walked into the bathroom the toilet seat was up and there was toilet paper floating in the bowl. No soap either except the free wrapped small squares that many hotels offer. I guess you get what you pay for but a working smoke detector should be a given. Our 2nd floor smoke detector is dangling from the ceiling by a thin wire. This is a serious safety violation. We spent a weekend there while attending an event in Moundsville. The parking lot was a little crazy, but not a problem. The hotel was being renovated on one end, but again not a problem. They do roll up breakfast early, 9:00 sharp. So you might want to be down in the lobby by 8:30. They do seem to have quite a few long term customers who might get a little too comfortable in the common areas, treating it like a private home. Overall we didn't have any problems except for the stomping around in the room above us. I would stay there again. No bedbugs, always a plus. read more

The room was okay for the price, but I'm reviewing because this hotel on the basis of pet accommodations. There's really not a place designated for dogs to go to the bathroom! I took my dog outside and all I could find was a very small patch of grass at the edge of the parking lot. The area was on a steep, slippery hill and covered with cigarette butts, trash, and broken glass. If you're going to claim to be pet-friendly and charge a pet fee, please provide a safe place for them to potty! read more

Received charge of $17 for thin hand towel & 2 washcloths. Spoke to manager & explained I used them to sop up coffee from the malfunctioning coffee maker. He told me I should have went to desk & obtained rags rather than use room towels. I guess I should have allowed the coffee to run onto the rug while I went up to desk! I thought this was an excellent hotel for the price. The rooms have been recently remodeled, the location is just off the highway (which I view as plus), and a light breakfast is included. This Super 8 was the last stop on my trip from California to Maryland. When we pulled up to the motel, we were hopeful! The parking lot looked to be an afterthought, but the motel looks to be new, the lobby was nice, the staff was prompt, but as we were at the counter, we heard someone complaining about the cleanliness of their room. Unphased, we checked in and went up to our room. I was a bit bummed that there was no pool, and the price was a bit higher than the other Super 8s that I had stayed in, so was I paying for the newness of the motel, or the location? When we checked into our room, a strange smell hit us in the face. It wasn't "bad," but it wasn't good either, so we opened the door. My mom then pointed out a splatter spot on the ceiling and asked me what it was. Come to find out it was coffee grinds and an explosion had happened, but... uh, why wasn't it cleaned? It's noticeable! Oh yea, try as I might, I couldn't get the window to lock. Otherwise the room was clean. If I found myself in Wheeling again, I'd likely return to this Super 8, but I'd check for the above mentioned things first before settling in for the night. read more

Your call: I had stayed here many times in a smoking room. It is now a non-smoking hotel. My guest did not know it had changed and lit a cigar when I went for ice. He put it out on my return. I bought a smoke eating candle & opened the windows overnight in November. Just got my bill and was charged an extra $125.00. My cousin who worked there said they just sprayed a room freshener and rented the room out again. A mistake was made, I admit, but geeesh. read more

We stayed at Super 8 motel at 2400 national road wheeling WV from the 3 to the 4th of October we checked out on October 5th. I just got off the phone with the manager of this hotel and he was not very helpful. I want to make clear that the staff was very nice and kind. The manager called this morning and wanted to know what we wanted, we told him we wanted em-bruised for one of the rooms. The doors were left open at night on the second floor, felt very unsafe at all times. When we first check in they had to move us right away because the room stunk badly and smelled of some kind of smoke. We reported it and yes they did move us right away, than when we went to go out there were women in their underwear in the hallways of the hotel. The smell of smoke of some kind was so bad that you could smell it between the 6 first rooms. The manager I felt when he called me back was not caring and he could care less about the things that are going on in this hotel. I would rather of stayed in my car and not worry about being scared. and being unsafe. When he asked what we wanted he said well I did this and that yes he did what any hotel manager would of done. I would never recommended this super 8 hotel ever. So this manager feels from my conversation with him it is alright for your hotel guest to feel unsecured and not safe. Thanks ... We stayed in this hotel during the holidays while visiting family and like everything else in that dilapidated town, this place was a dump. The lobby smelled like smoke and the people at the front desk were snippy. The room was ok, nothing to be excited about. At least the sheets were clean. But the kicker was that the walls were PAPER thin! I could hear EVERYTHING going on in the hallways and in the rooms next to us. What seemed like a bus load of screaming children showed up at about midnight and kept us all awake until their handlers reigned them in at about 5 AM. When we called the front desk to complain, NO ONE picked up. The "breakfast" was some stale pastries, rotting fruit and lukewarm beverages. The parking lot is on a slope and is hard to navigate because people just park however they please. Upon checkout, I was going to pay in cash but the desk clerk just handed me a receipt without a word and walked away. After complaints, I received an apology from the owner which was thoughtful and she did offer me a free night but there's no way I'm EVER going back to that town let alone stay in that hotel. read more

Would be 0 stars....So made reservation on booking.com on Tuesday. Called hotel on Wednesday to confirm. All was ok. Got confirmation number. Showed up on Friday after driving 4 hours to be told reservation had been cancelled. (Not by me.) Had gotten call today at 2:24 from a Wheeling phone number but missed it. No voicemail was left. Called back at 2:25. Phone rang and rang. No one answered. Called back again at 2:31... still no answer. Neither time, no recording, nothing to indicate I was calling this hotel. And it was not the number that appears on their site. Figured it was a robo-call, as they are now being masked by local numbers. So, drive four hours to be told my reservation had been cancelled because I didn't answer my phone. Seriously??? They only had one room left, which was a single and I had reserved a double queen. Had to take it. No other rooms around. (State football tournament) Got a kid sleeping on the floor. What if they didn't have this 1 room available!?!? Not anything else available for miles. Is this seriously your policy??? Will not be staying at Super 8 again or using booking.com. read more

During the initial checking they seemed very nice and friendly. They asked for a card for incidentals which I didn't have any issue doing; but I expressly asked if there was going to be any charges on the card. They assured me that they would not charge my card for anything other then if someone smoked in the room. They then charged my card for an additional $130 the day after I checked out, without contacting me at all or even asking my consent. I called the hotel and asked for the manager; I was assured that the manager had just stepped out and would be calling me back sometime that day. They never called back, I had to call back and ask for the manager again. Once I got the manager on the phone and inquired about the charges he started to berate me about how I was talking to him and advised me that I should "learn how to talk to people better." I suggest that you avoid this hotel, there are a lot of options in the area go seek them out. read more
