I have shopped at this Giant regularly for 10 plus years, I live close by. I have spent $100-$200 weekly on average for 10 years plus and always liked this store. However a few weeks ago I was shopping there, after they reopened the main door for customer use. On that day I was followed through the store as well as the bathroom when I decided to use the rest room. In the moment I didn't quite realize what was happening however it became clear I was being profiled and followed through the store. I paid for my groceries and left The store however was so put off by the situation that I called the store manager and made my feelings known. He apologize but that doesn't change the situation. I will never shop here again and I have spent a lot of money why here over the years. Their new security efforts have alienated me and I won't spend another dollar at Giant. If Giant has such a theft issue that they want to treat current and long term customers badly, they should close the business. I have no reason to steal groceries and to be treated as such a person is an insult that no apology will correct. read more

Tons of selection here - much more than a regular Giant Food. I am so used to a regular Giant - that I get lost here. It takes me longer to find what I am looking for. And there is also a lot to choose from that you won't find in a regular Giant. The place was clean, well-lit, spacious. I will be back! read more

No one will help you here. Came in for a specific item that stated it was in stock but could not find it. No one would offer to assist so I took my business to a competitor. For the upcharged prices giant charges you'd think they'd have some service to go along with it. read more

This by far the best Giant around. The staff their are great. There is a young man maybe in his twenties that works up front. I am not sure his name but he has really short hair and has been working there for a few years. He is extremely kind and helpful. The store is very clean. They always have items in stock. I really wanted to give them 5 stars but because their steak selection is not good I had to take 1 star back. This will be brief. I don't know why, but I've never been a huge fan of Giant. Since moving to Gainesville, we've tended to do most of our shopping at the Safeway in Bristow. I was a particular fan of Safeway when they had their broader gas discount program. Recently though, I have been taking my family to Giant instead. One reason for my switch is the scanner gun system for ringing your groceries as you go (Bloom has this too). When you enter the store you swipe your bonus card, take the scanner gun, grab some bags, then you scan your groceries and bag as you go. My shopping trips usually include my grandmother and mother. They, like kids, can make shopping trips a bit like herding cats. So having everything bagged and ready to go cuts off about 15 minutes from every trip to the store. With the economic downturn, stores are getting very competitive. That said, about 3 months ago Giant began accepting all of Safeway's store coupons. Now, they're taking it a step further and accepting ALL competitor's coupons (including the Gainesville Harris Teeter's spend $50 get $20 off coupon). Taking it further, Giant is rebranding their bonus cards via a new mailer. When you receive the new card, you register it online, and by doing so, you'll receive a 5% discount off of the total of your next purchase. For me, Giant has demonstrated a terrific commitment to beating any and all competition by courting new customers in these tough economic times. This coupled with a great quality selection of goods and the fact that they carry Boar's Head brand deli meats really has me sold. "That's my Giant!" read more

I've always shopped at Giant, but right now my favorite part of this store are the self-scanners. I think it makes my grocery shopping more fun. If you aren't familiar with the self-scanning, here's a rundown: *Enter store, and locate the individual scanners *Scan your Giant bonus card, and then pick up the flashing scanner *As you shop, scan the items you plan to purchase. You can even bag the items as you shop. If you decide against an item, you can easily remove it from the scanner. This is obviously an honest program, as if Giant hopes you will put back the item if you remove it from the scanner. * The scanner will indicate the cost, including any savings * When you are finished shopping, go to one of the self-service lines * All you need to do is pay for your items, and you're on your way! This is great if the store is packed. Even if you have 100 items in the cart, you don't need to wait for an hour in line. Downside, it doesn't give the cashiers much work to do. read more

Great store. But it's really missing a bakery. Every other grocery store around this area has a bakery. But if your in a pinch and need something it should do. What they do have that is good is the bargain aisles now which helps when you need to stock up. Try and avoid the self checks everyone runs to them and it just takes too long. read more

Literally called the floral department less than an hour ago to put in a balloon order and the girl said she had an order before us so she couldn't get to it until 1 and I said that wouldn't work so she quickly changed it to 12:30. We showed up there at 12:31 to have no one there because "she went on break". Some guy helped us but 30 minutes later. Thank you for lying and now making us late to the birthday party. read more

this is my main place to do grocery's, the store is clean. Plenty of selections. The Deli is great too. Love the fact that I can scan as I go with kids it makes my life easier not to stand at check out for forever and just pay and get out! read more

Yeah it's your typical Super Giant but what made me give 5 stars was the awesome help at the self checkout. I visited this location on a late night Friday & I was assisted by the lady watching the self checkouts. She helped me bag my groceries and just the fact that I had a great interaction with her made a difference. I was by myself & their self checkout set up is really weird. You scan your product then you HAVE to put it on the belt that pushes it all the way to the end, pay, then you have to walk at the end to bag all your groceries. I don't really like that because that set up doesn't work. So without question came over to help me bag. Love it! read more

This Giant has undergone a considerable make-over. At this time they are still working on it. The produce section is tremendously better. The deli is also very nice. The bakery doesn't offer the breadth of selection of Wegman's, Harris Teeter or even Safeway, but it's got the basics. The selection of goods is very good overall. The florist has been moved next to the pharmacy, which I don't think I've ever seen in a grocery store, and is a little strange. The prices seem slightly lower than most of the other grocery stores in this area. Overall the upgrading has been pretty successful. But if they think the Starbucks-help-yourself station is going to be successful they must have been sniffing glue in the school supplies aisle (and why do grocery stores even bother with that stuff??). read more

Went in to pick up some salmon. Waited a good 5-10 minutes for someone to show up at the seafood counter..Finally went to the meat counter to see if anyone there could help. No one there, either. Back to seafood...surely someone would see me. Finally, a guy from the deli walks over, looks at me, and walks in the back. Great, he'll get someone out to help me. No such luck. Finally gave up and went to Harris Teeter. Won't be back. Here's a tip, Giant -- if you want my money, hire an employee or two. read more

Hard to find parking. Customer service could be much better. Fairly clean. Slow checkouts. Pricey

This is the worst grocery store. I have never encountered a friendly employee and the prices on most items are over priced. They never have more than 2-3 check out lines opened. I'm not a huge Giant Fan on the whole as i think their quality varies greatly from one store to the next, but this one does a pretty good job for the price. I can safely say i eat at the salad bar at least 3 times a week for lunch. read more

The Giant in Gainesville is set up very similarly to other Giant Supermarkets in the area. There's aisles of food, a pharmacy and small PNC bank. The difference here is with their staff. They are always happy, friendly and extremely helpful. Everyone from those who stock the shelves, to those who manage personnel are willing to assist and have a smile on their face while doing it. Robert has been nothing but helpful every time I've visited. And we always look forward to seeing Brenda who works at the front checkout lanes, she's sweet and charismatic. I shop at this Giant from time to time. I usually do my food shopping in Wegmans. However, they don't steam lobsters so I come to Giant for this. This evening in addition to a lobster, I decided to get a pound of snow crab legs. I got them home. They smelled like amonia-urine to be exact. I cracked one leg and attempted to taste it. Disgusting! I called customer service. The man who answered, named Raj was very courteous. I told him I wanted my money back but would not put these things in my refrigerator to return tomorrow. He said to just bring the receipt. I asked him to take these bad crab legs off the market. I doubt he did this. I will never buy any seafood from them again. Needless to say-I could not eat the lobster. My husband said it was good. I am nauseous. read more
