I love this place. But allow me to TRY to be non-bias. The owner, Robert, and his staff (primarily family and friends I think) are very kind and generous people! I love them. The restaurant is nice. This place is just ok. If I wanted inexpensive Greek food, I might come here again. But if it's quality you're after, head to Papapavlo's - they have the best Greek food in Modesto, by a long shot. I'd rank Papachino's, downtown, between Super Gyros and Papapavlo's. I got the gyros plate. It came with rice and a salad, though I wouldn't call it a Greek salad. Iceburg lettuce with a mealy tomato and some vinegar poured on it does not qualify as Greek salad. The creepiest thing was the tzatziki, which, sorry to be graphic, had the consistency of snot. It was the strangest thing - I love Greek food and have NEVER seen anything like this tzatziki. Tzatziki should be creamy, taste of garlic and have cucumber slices in it. Although the taste of this version was mediocre, I just couldn't get over the consistency, and if I ever come back, I'd try the kabobs or something else. The inside of the restaurant is humble (read: for the most part, clean, but all the same shabby). The service was fine. It's not a great place to go for atmosphere or a decent conversation - there's a big tv in the front corner, blasting ESPN. read more

My sister and I had a craving for Subway's Falafel sandwich, but to our surprise, the Subways in and around Modesto dont carry it at all (sad face). Sooo we went online and searched for a place that served a falafel sandwich in Modesto and found this place. Holllly molllyyy did it exceed my expectations!!!! The falafel sandwich (#3) was freaaaaaaakinnn amazingggggggg!!! Freshly made falafel, cucumber sauce, onion, lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber or pickles. So, so, sooo good! I think I'm going back tomorrow for another one haha And just an FYI, the chicken and lamb are halal but the beef is not. Whenever we are in Modesto we love to eat at Super Gyros. Great service. Great prices. Casual dining. My daughter and I love to order the Gyro dinner plate. It's plenty to eat with basmati rice and salad. My husband loves their pepper steak sandwich with fries. They also sell burgers if one in your party is not adventurous enough for Mediterranean food. This is a great gyros place. My partner had the lamb and my daughter had the Falafel. With only one exception we enjoyed the food very much and brought home most of the leftovers. The hummus was excellent, far better than any store brought brands. The gyros with lamb/beef mixture was delightfully seasoned and not bland as I have had in many other places that attempt to sell gyros. Our only quibble was with the salad. The dressing tasted too much of vinegar for our taste. My daughter also felt that the Feta cheese was more like the powdered Parmesan cheese that Kraft sells rather than a set of crumbled, moist Feta cheese. read more

Super Giros is one of those places reserved for young people I think. My friends took me here (one of their man hangs when in high school) and we had something delicious. I can't really remember because I didn't order anything and I was drunk at the time. I remember TVs being on, really good baklava and excellent french fries. (Can I be anymore vague?) BUT...being that I am not from Modesto, I don't know any history or stories of this place. I just remember the food being good. Can't really give much more than that. read more

The Gyros Sandwich Special at lunch is a delicious item on the menu, and if you're looking for a dinner type meal I like the number 10 on the menu. The staff is always pleasant and will cater to your every wish. The interior could use some work, but I didn't come here for an elegant atmosphere where I can get a great meal under $10. The TV always has some interesting program on while you have your meal. I usually come here for lunch, and have been for a few dinners as well. It never disappoints. Food is always consistent and you get what you ordered, just like the last time. I recommend this place if you're in for some Middle Eastern food that won't tax your wallet.
