I came in recently to buy a small bag of chips (about 1 oz. size) for a friend in the hospital per his request. I saw some small "generic" bags near the front of the store without any prices so I picked one up and gave it to the cashier. When he rang it up it was $3.99! I asked him if he was sure and he very nonchalantly nodded yes. I told him that was outrageously high and put it back. I got no expression or reaction at all from the guy. DO NOT GO HERE. They have FAKE puff bars, literally smells like ethanol and has a burned flavor. I asked them what they could do and refused to give me a refund. They have a large selection of beer but most of it is months or even years past their "drink by" dates. Me & a friend both puked on sour beer from there. They have super cool employees,but I need fresh beer which seems impossible to get here. This is not your typical liquor market. This is something special. Something that blows any old corner liquor store out of the water. I don't know why I first walked in here. Maybe it's because I wanted to break a 20 so I could go to the crack head car wash across the street. So hey, maybe I wanted a beer as well. Yes. I think I deserved one for surviving the god awful cluster $#$#% that is Valley Blvd near the end of the 710 (Pasadena freeway my ass!) This spot has some hard to find belgian beers. I have to wonder how the hell they decided to pick up some of the beers they're selling because it's amazing how the selection rivals that of whole foods or even more specifically in the know beer places. And as much as I'm surprised that they have some amazingly good Belgian beers, they also have the staples of any beer store. Even going so far of getting a lot of the micro brewed and small breweries from all the way up from Portland to Colorado. Friendly service and they'll gladly suggest new stuff based on what they like and what you tell them you like. I'm utterly surprised and thankful that there's a place this awesome so close to me. read more

Decent selection of spirits, not mind blowing but good enough for most occasions. They have an excellent craft beer selection. Lots and lots of different craft beer bottles to be had here. Let's put it this way - I feel lucky to call this place my local liquor store. Mega 8 is like a mini BevMo in Alhambra. It's bigger than the average liquor store and they optimize their space. Their beer selection is incredible, and they tend to offer a fair price. The front of the store offers a pretty impressive wine area, and they have different hard liquors running all the way down the counter. From Popov to Perrier Jouet, they've got it all. The guys who own the store are extremely friendly, know their stock well, and are happy to make recommendations. My husband and I were visiting from Australia and we sometimes went here twice a day (because visiting family makes you want to drink...and because the selection was great!). My husband had all sorts of APA/IPA boners going on when we first walked in (you can easily pay around $9 AUD for a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale). My husband was sad we couldn't say goodbye before leaving. He looked all over for a Deschutes Hop Henge in Oakland to take back with us to Australia with no luck. They have a very nice selection of beer and some wines. I only drop by when I need to pick up a certain beer releases and they're not available elsewhere. Otherwise, I don't visit this liquor store too often. The guy behind the counter (forgot his name) is mostly friendly and will chat with you about new beers and recommendations if it's not too busy. The only thing I don't like about this place is that they don't have prices posted anywhere. You will have to assume what you want is being charged at fair market value, or you just ask the guy behind the counter but I don't like doing that because it can get annoying when there's several things you're interested in. There's also a decent sized parking lot. Pro-tip: If you're not sure what you want, don't be afraid to ask the guy behind the counter for a recommendation. read more

This is a big liquor store indeed with all your standard alcohol selection and a wide variety of wines to boot..BUT I WENT FOR THE BEER! Moderately priced beer but a pretty good selection! They have a good choice of Belgium Ales and craft beers. They have about two racks dedicated to single beers i.e. 1pint 6oz., 0.5l., corked beers etc.. You'll find your Flying Dog's, Stone's, and at least one or two beers you haven't seen. They have all the basics covered. Open till midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, till 11pm every other day. This just happened today. One of the owners/managers saw me with a bottle of Bruery's Oude Tart in one hand and Hottenroth in the other. Said, "Oh, you like sours? I have something to you'll like." Busts out an Almanac Farmer's Reserve Strawberry - one of the beers I've been searching for and didn't think was available yet. "Got three cases in today. $10.99 a bottle. How many do you need?" Sure, Oregon and Belgium are where its at for sours. Would love to live there and get awesome sours straight from the brewers. But as long as good places like Mega Liquor 8 are around, I think I'm gonna be fine living in the SGV for a while. read more

The best liquor store around in the area. Originally i'm from San Diego but moved to Alhambra a little under a month ago. I was so worried that I wouldn't have access to my good beer anymore but when I found this place all my worries went bye bye! I just moved here from San Diego so I'm used to having a huge craft beer selection and this place did not disappoint. Prices are reasonable, a large Duvel and Chimay beer is around $10. They carry Shocktop, which is one of my girlfriend's favorite beer. We were looking for a particular beer and they actually have some stock in the back (and yes, they are cold!) which might not be displayed in the store - be sure to check!
