Total hidden gem in Carlsbad. We sat up at the sushi bar. You could tell that they were pretty short staffed but the waitstaff all did an awesome job regardless. I got a protein roll with no rice and my boyfriend got the Philadelphia, the Carlsbad, and the lemon. The rolls are way bigger than other sushi rolls I've had. They stuff them full of fish and do not skimp at all. My roll was delicious and I could definitely tell the fish was fresh. I tried a bite of his lemon roll and it was super good. We asked if we could watch the all star game on tv and the guy behind the sushi bar just handed us the remote and let us change it to whatever we wanted. My beloved Souplantation is now gone and Olive Garden feels about done too, so my previous issues with parking are no longer. Seeing as we are post pandemic and apply chain strains have inflated prices on everything Super seems to have weathered the storm pretty well. Their prices aren't that much higher and they are still doing ok. They are still doing new rolls and cycling out old one's. Their menu is now easier to read with rolls being sectioned by type. My miso soup game has gone way up as I make my own dashi stock at home now so when I eat it out I can tell the lack of katsuobushi. It's actually on the sweeter side meaning they use a white miso paste. Pretty classic ingredients though I wish they added shiitake mushrooms. My reason for the lowered star is due to my last 4 experiences. I've had to ask for utensils, was either not greeted hello or the obligatory goodbye. The rolls themselves were inconsistent. My spicy tuna hand roll is jam packed which normally would be a value, but not when it's unbalances. The Mexican Roll sounded amazing, but landed flat with it being 90% rice making it more like onigiri. Perhaps I should have ordered sashimi as the rice was complimentary of both items. I have also been missing the tang of the vinegar on the sushi rice. The shining star here was the Carlsbad roll which was excellent. read more

Good service and the staff really wants to please its customers. Excellent prices. However, the fish is average and appears previously frozen without a the taste and texture of fresh fish. High ratio of rice to fish which is an amateur mistake (rolls with moderate to thick coating of rice, and nigiri is completely mated to a block of rice rather than a small piece under ... the rice overwhelms the fish). However, given that I consider the north county SD to be a sushi desert with only a handful of decent places, I'd rate them 3-4 stars relative to Oceanside/Carlsbad sushi and the low prices/value. If you aren't a sushi snob like me, I'm sure you will think it's 4-5 stars ;) Hope this helps. read more

Walked in a Sunday afternoon, no one was there to greet/seat us. After a short wait, the Sushi Chef said we could sit anywhere. One of my dishes had a little crumb on it so I am glad I caught that. My mom and I both ordered the Teriyaki Salmon Combos. The Miso Soups arrived first and seemed a little watery. The plate itself was a good value. I would've liked some lemon with my fish, but couldn't always catch the waitress. The Potato Salad was very bland. The CA Roll was pretty good though! The Fried Tempura was tasty, also! We ordered 5 i tems ($45+) The rolls are HUUUGE!!! we are a party of 3, and ordered ramen, poke, teriyaki chicken, lunch special (2 rolls) YES! we're hungry...!!! We even told the very nice young lady (Agnes) to leave the menu just in case we wanted to add more.. OMG! We didn't get to finish all because we were so stuffed, a little salty (for me) on that soup, but Las vegas roll and the rest that we ordered YUMMERS!! Came here for my birthday dinner last night with family. We had made a reservation cause we'd never been here before so didn't know how big or busy it was and we had a party of six. The food was good but the service was so so. My friend arrived like 15 mins before us and was sat and no waters or anything were brought to our table and they never even asked for a drink order. We had to ask again for waters and drinks after our food came out and all of our mouths were on fire from spicy rolls. Also had to ask for napkins and wasabi and ginger. Some of our food items were missing and we had to remind them when the rest of our food was basically gone and one of those was an appetizer so should've come out first. Most of the rolls however were really good and the portions are very generous. There were one or two rolls we wouldn't order again but the rest were good! Overall we would come back but service needs some work. Our service was nice don't get me wrong but taking a drink order or bringing waters to a table is the first thing any server should do. read more

Today we had a horrible experience two doors down at the Greek Corner Cafe. The server was exceptionally rude and unaccommodating. So much so that when I politely and respectfully requested the dirty water cup just given to me be replaced, she snatched the cup in a rush spilling water in our table and all over the floor and showing no care or concern whatsoever. First of all, if you are looking for authentic Japanese food, turn around and look for another place on Yelp. I don't mean that as a bad thing, as you can see that I am giving this place four stars. Their tonkatsu ramen doesn't have the traditional ingredients, but there is a lot of vegetables that blends well with the nice broth they are serving. We also had the combo plate with chicken katsu, while the chicken is not of the greatest quality, the portion and sides (salad, Mac salad, miso soup, cali roll) is of good value. The California roll did fall apart when you pick it up, so that's where the missing one star went. Overall a good spot if you are hungry, not authentic, but delicious food. read more

Oh gosh, the last time I was here was 7 years ago when I worked across the street. I have great memories from then, and a lot has changed! They remodeled which looks great! Love the new seating and colors. But now to the food....I got the TJ Roll and Vegas. (TJ roll being the one that I'd get all the time back then) They were good, however the TJ Roll has jalapeño but couldn't even taste the spiciness at all.. they just put the outer part of the pepper which was disappointing.. wanted that spicy kick. The vegas roll was tasty but I think it would've been tastier with jalapeños or a spicy sauce. Perhaps I can order spicy Mayo next time. I was a little disappointed that their menu prices. I guess they went up and it ended up being wayyy more expensive that I thought. The last menu picture was from 9 months ago.. so they need to update it. But overall, it was a good lunch. read more

Currently sitting at the table right now finishing up our meal. We ordered 2 appetizers and 2 rolls. The appetizers ( wontons and calamari). Calamari was alright, the sauce I was not fond of so we opted out and asked for more lemon. The wontons were fire. The 2 rolls we got were orange blossom and Padres roll. We asked them to add cream cheese to the orange blossom and it did not disappoint! I know you guys are thinking fruit and sushi just don't mix! TRUST! It's a nope for me. This will have been our third time giving this place a try and it's just not for me. This time we ordered Togo it took over 10Mins passed the time it was said to be done while half our order was sitting on the counter. Long enough I made sure it wasn't getting hot/cold as we had an ramen and sushi order.. There were two dirty tables that sat while I was-there but a handful of servers hanging around even got a boba order while I was waiting... I don't know what's happening but the sushi was a lot of dry sticky rice and uneven mixtures kinda hard to eat. I think they need more help and possibly would be worth it! The service at Super Sushi hasn't been slow when I have been there. But it was pretty empty. I hope that is not typical, I want them to succeed because the food is great. The teriyaki salmon combo is great--salmon perfectly grilled, served with miso soup, green salad, potato salad, California roll and rice. The tempura is wonderful. My sisters and I were craving sushi, and have always wanted to try Super Sushi (by the old soup plantation... rip soup!) We noticed this place had plenty of reviews with an average of 4 stars so were even more eager to try on top of sushi cravings mentioned earlier. We ended up coming in during happy hour and they have both electronic and paper menus available. The happy hour was decent and they had a deal where you can order one from group A and one from group B for a specific price but we went in for the rolls. The waitress was attentive and sweet, stating that the crunchy roll was the most popular and giving her favorites such as the Red Lion roll. I appreciated the indepth answer she provided for us. We also tried other rolls such as the Las Vegas roll and yellowtail roll (which was thick for it being a general roll) My favorites were actually the crunch and red lion roll. I felt that the crunch roll is often a hit and they delivered it tastefully w the crispness from the tempura flakes. The spicy tuna combo w/ tuna in the red lion was spicy (but not too spicy so perfect for my palette.) The Las Vegas roll was a favorite on Yelp, but not mine. I feel like cream cheese should be part of the baked rolls and not regular roll but apparently that is just me! I also believe the fried rice was kind of bland, which needed more salt and spice. read more

This place was off from the beginning. We ordered miso soup and seaweed salad to start off. The miso was luke warm and didn't taste right. The seaweed salad was just odd. It was essentially pre made salad mix from Costco with seaweed on top. I have never seen someone mess up seaweed salad so terribly. The menu did not mention that this was their version of seaweed salad. Even the server mentioned she knew they were making it incorrectly. So called Japanese restaurant located in almost a deserted "value" strip mall, I think in Carlsbad. Menu is diverse and long....are they Japanese or Korean fare?? We had ramen and teriyaki entree, sushi bar kind of put me off. Son had Tonkotsu ramen, broth ok, pork belly was grilled -weird texture flavor. I had the spicy miso ramen, which had the same weirdest grilled pork belly, I couldn't eat. The broth was so one dimensional with no taste of miso and not spicy, there was no chili nor spicy sesame oil on the table to spice this thing up. PLUS it was missing my egg, had to ask for sriracha to spice this seasoning less broth up - just blah. When the server asked if everything was ok or if I wanted a box to take home, told her my concerns and no did not to take leftovers home. Hubby got the entree of teriyaki chicken and beef over fried rice, lacks flavor and fried rice just had frozen peas and carrots over day old rice, no seasoning and no flavor.
