If you're looking for a spot with a high-energy vibe and a killer aesthetic, Superica in South End definitely delivers. I visited with a friend on Cinco de Mayo, so as you can imagine, the scene was absolutely chaotic. The wait was a staggering hour and a half, but Superica handles crowds like a pro. They have an outdoor bar and a grill setup serving: * A limited taco menu * Chips and Queso This was a total game-changer. It's a genius move that keeps the "hangry" at bay while you soak up the South End atmosphere. Once we finally scored two seats at the bar, the service remained impressively steady despite the holiday madness. * The Vibe: 10/10. The restaurant is beautiful and definitely fits the trendy Charlotte mold. * The Food: To be honest, I wasn't blown away. Given the hype and the stunning decor, my expectations were sky-high. The flavors were "decent" and felt like a solid performance, but they didn't quite hit that "must-return" level of deliciousness. * Portion Sizes: Huge! I couldn't finish my meal in one sitting. Here's the interesting part: The food actually tasted better the next day. It traveled well and the flavors seemed to settle in overnight. If you can't finish your plate, definitely take it home. Is it worth the South End gas and the hour-plus wait? For me, I'll probably stick to my "old faithful" spot up in the University area for my routine taco fix. However, I'm willing to give Superica the benefit of the doubt. It's hard for any kitchen to be at its absolute peak on Cinco de Mayo. If I find myself back in the neighborhood on a quieter Tuesday, I'd give it another shot just to see if the food can live up to that gorgeous interior.

Quality Tex-mex in Charlotte?? Say no more. I was a bit concerned returning since they changed the menu, but was glad to see that the quality of their food has not changed at all. Went for brunch and opted for the Migas Al Carbon (pictured), the queso (pictured) and the chorizo potato and eggs (not pictured). The chicken is perfectly smoked and tender, the tortillas in the Migas were impossibly crispy, and the salsas all offered a brightness and needed pop of acid. I often dream about their Queso, and think it might be Charlotte's best! The cocktails I tried were a little disappointing; for a Tex-Mex restaurant I think a margarita should be over the top good, but theirs was extremely sweet, and lacked any lime flavor. I also tried their seasonal mimosa Fresca, and at $10 it was just okay. Hopefully the drinks were just a one off.

The lunch specials are just not it anymore. $18 for a taco, cheese enchilada and a cheese covered chip (tiny tostada). The burger is good and it comes with fries but better options for that nearby at much more reasonable prices.. Service has been hit or miss. Today was miss. I asked what came with the huevos rancheros and was directed back to the menu "it comes with what it says there." What it says is two tortillas, two scrambled eggs and sauce. Can't believe that's the whole thing. Decided to pass,., This trip we asked for a table away from the door as it was very cold out. Our party and every one after us was sat in the front area. It had to be sub-60°. The whole backs area, where the ovens and the warm are, were not being seated. I'll be back but only because of the convenience...do better. Basic lunch specials should not be $20+tip.

I've been to three different Superica locations across various states, and it never disappoints! The chicken is always delish - juicy, flavorful, and smokey. The green salsa.... addictive. I could easily dip anything in it and be happy for hours. Can't go wrong with a simple marg, and the tequila selection is top tier. Great atmosphere, excellent service, and the food is consistently on point. Highly recommend it if you're a fan of good flavors and a solid drink menu!

Went here on a date night & it did not disappoint!! Superica is such a fun little Tex-Mex spot that strikes the perfect balance between lively and laid-back. We were greeted right away and seated immediately (reservations definitely helped, because this place was buzzing). Our server was a total gem!! friendly, attentive, and happy to walk us through the menu. The chorizo queso was the star of the night - flavorful, and dangerously easy to keep dipping into. The warm, perfectly salted chips made it impossible to stop. Drinks were solid, portions generous, and the overall vibe made for such an easy, enjoyable evening. Whether it's date night or a night out with friends, Superica feels like one of those places you'll keep coming back to.

Migas Plate (4/5): A nice blend of flavors but a little bland overall. The flour tortillas that came with it were also very good! I didn't like the refried beans or the sauce though (they were both strangely sour). Hot Cakes (4/5): The hotcakes themselves were very eggy and not my favorite, but the syrup was SO good. More like caramel sauce than maple syrup. RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Need to get this again) 4 - Good (Would get this again) 3 - Ok (Might give this another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)

My husband and I were on a time crunch for a show at the Spectrum Center, so I made a reservation here about a week ahead of time for dinner. I'm glad I did because they were busy on a Saturday night! We were seated immediately once we arrived. The interior was absolutely beautiful with lots of natural light from the windows. After we were seated, the server brought us free chips & salsa. The chips were good, but the salsa wasn't for me. I love chunky red salsa and they gave us a salsa verde. I ordered a vegetarian Taco Dinner with 1 hard shell and 2 soft. The kitchen initially messed up my order and brought me all hard shells, but the server quickly took it back to the kitchen and it was re-served to me correctly within 2 minutes. The rice & beans were a basic white rice and black beans, but the menu advertised the meal with fried beans and Mexican rice. I didn't care enough to question this substitution as much as I did with the wrong shells. After tasting both sets of shells, I definitely preferred the soft over the hard one. Server was nice and quick. Food had giant portions so you really get your money's worth. I love Tex-Mex food so I'd go to this place again. For those that don't want to drive, this place was super conveniently located near a Blue Line stop. There's also a ton of shops to check out nearby if there is a wait to be seated.

Took my mentee here for a lunch hang out. I love the ambiance and how the place is full of light. It took no time for us to get seated and it's full of space even during lunch hours. He even enjoyed it. I was quite surprised even with the kids menu the portion sizes are plentiful. I would recommend for a family night out or somewhere to try that's not too loud and you can have conversations without having to scream.

All the yums! This place was teeming with people and bustling on a Saturday night, and we were sat quickly. The food, drinks, and the service was top notch. The street tacos are tasty. The service was fast and friendly. The drinks are delicious. Great spot for vibes, bluegrass music & videos on display, and great food. Cheers!

Stopped to meet some work friends for lunch on a Thursday, safe to say it was an AWESOME choice. Place is situated in an old knitting mill giving the old rustic feeling, but they incorporated a good tex-mex vibe with murals and some southwestern memorabilia. The best burger I've ever had was the Hamburguesa. Absolutely amazing. We had an awesome server and he was quick as Sonic. Amazing burger. Great job guys and girls. Highly recommend.

I had the Surf and Turf Cali Burrito and my son had the Shrimp Burrito. They both came with a side of rice and beans. The burritos were huge and full of flavor! We both were able to have half of them for lunch the next day. Two meals in one...you can't beat that! We ended the night with a dessert recommendation of one of there seasonal flan. It made you want to kick the spoon afterwards. I really loved the vibe of the place and look forward to dining there again. Major props to the staff for making our evening so enjoyable! Mal Pan is sort of like "nouvelle cusine" but applied to Mexican food ... more about presentation than the food itself. At the risk of sounding like an overwrought Midwestern foodie, we thought the portions were small, the prices were high, the food was just alright, the rice and beans presentation was silly, and the margaritas were more show than go. And chips and salsa, priced at over $5 for a serving, seemed a bit over the top since most Mexican restaurants offer that free. An example of the nouvelle cuisine: they have fancy butternut squash and sweet potato tacos, but no real tacos made like mamá or mami used to prepare. The rice and beans that come with most meals were presented in the form of yin-yang symbol in a tiny saucer ... couldn't have been more than a tablespoon of each ... come on, it's rice and beans not frankincense and myrrh. The highlight of the meal was the waitstaff, attentive without being intrusive. Don't think we'll be back.
