BYO Burrito with Mexican Mac n Cheese
    Ian N.

Mexican Mac N Cheese (4/5): Not sure what made this mac n cheese "Mexican", but it was pretty good. A little on the dry side, but I still enjoyed it. Chips and Salsa (4/5): The chips were thin and crispy (they reminded me of Chilis' chips). The salsa was fine but I would've loved even a little hint of spice. Barbacoa Burrito (3/5): The burrito wasn't very well mixed at all and the refried beans unfortunately dominated the flavor and texture. I liked the meat but there wasn't enough of it. The tortilla also wasn't anything special (comparable to Chipotle). RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Need to get this again) 4 - Good (Would get this again) 3 - Ok (Might give this another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)

I've ordered here several times and love the concept. They have loads of options to choose from. They have good portion sizes as well. I am most impressed that you can get guacamole and queso as one of your toppings for no additional charge. My favorite sauce is their ranch. The cilantro lime sauce is good on top of a bowl, but the ranch I can just eat with anything,it's so tasty. I love dipping the complementary chips in the ranch. However, I do feel like a lot of the toppings don't have much flavor. They are very bland to my palette. Taco Mama 2452 Park Rd Charlotte NC 28203 (Review 23 in 2024 and 823 overall)

JUSTICE IS SERVED* AHI TUNA-SI-- QUESO WATERMELON (SEASONAL)

This was my second time at this location and I was not disappointed. I'm a stickler for eating the same thing at my a favorite spots to not disappoint myself and I wasn't. I got a basket with the ahi tuna and grilled flounder tacos, side of queso and I tried the watermelon Margarita. The food was delicious as always and the margarita was alright, that was a new one to me as I tried it because the proceed went to child medical research, my norm is the sangria... holy crap that stuff is amazing. Great service as usual, plenty of seating inside and some extra out back.

Order at the counter taco bar (burritos and other things too). Tacos come in groups of two, they have house suggestions and you can build your own (definitely the way to go) from a really large list of ingredients. I tried the steak and a fish (fried flounder) taco and a side of street corn. I ordered the steak with cilantro and onion, and the fish with their ancho chile slaw. Both on flour tortillas. The tacos come with the toppings under the protein, which is odd but okay. The steak was super tender but could have been marinated for some more flavor. The fish was good, I mean fried flounder, amirite? The meal came with a side of choice, I got the ubiquitous street corn, it was ok. It also comes with chips and salsa which were good. Excellent service at the counter, I tipped the woman who helped me get my order set up. Noisy, but a good atmosphere, everyone is friendly Recommend over Velvet Taco for both price and quality of food and experience

I came here with a friend for Cinco de Mayo, knowing before hand there would be a crowd. What I didn't expect was the absolute over the top service we received on one of the busiest days of the year. The food, as always was beyond expectations and the drinks were fresh and delicious. The owner is one of the kindest people and best business owners I've ever encountered. I was mentioning that I forgot to use my $5 off coupon I had been saving for this occasion and he immediately gave me a second without hesitation AND even went and reopened my tab to give me $5 back towards my meal. That is next level service! I always have an amazing experience at Taco Mama between the atmosphere, service, and AMAZING tacos! I will continue recommending this establishment to anyone who asks for a great spot in Charlotte!

Really fun, fast casual Mexican spot! Diverse menu with both classic and Tex Mex options, and fun/eclectic interior. We came on a Tuesday night, and there was a short line out the door, but we were able to order within 10 minutes. After we ordered, it only took another 10 minutes to get our food. I ordered the two tacos and a side combo ($12-15) with one grilled flounder and one chorizo. In hindsight, probably not the best combination together, but both were good! Next time, I am eager to try the steak! I was pleasantly surprised at how loaded the tacos were. This is not one of those "tiny, half-full tortilla" type places! The tacos also came with a generous portion of tortilla chips, and I picked guacamole as my side, which was delicious. Overall, a crowdpleasing spot for a fast casual dinner.

I immediately had to review this place because the service was OUTSTANDING.. 10/10. I had been here before but felt like this time we were greeted immediately, the server explained everything on the menu and answered any questions. We went on a Thursday night and it wasn't too busy - lots of space to sit and even a patio spot! The food was really great, I got the burrito with chips and queso & the seasonal watermelon margarita - so good!! The manager/owner (I'm not sure) checked in on me and my friend three times to make sure everything tasted okay.. he was seriously great, wish I would've grabbed his name!! Check this place out

Taco bout a great spot--taco mama is awesome! I absolutely loved their selection of margs --my favorites were the blood orange and the la playa which was a pineapple coconut flavor that transported me to the Caribbean. I wasn't crazy about the cucumber but if you want very light and refreshing it may be suitable for ya. I am obsessed with the founder salad! So good and the queso Fresca and house made dressings were just delicious on it. The having banging street corn and Mac and cheese and their chips and salsa go down too easy also. Wasn't crazy about the ahi tuna taco--wasn't bad just have had better. I wish it was a little bigger inside bc it definetly can get a little crowded in there. Overall great spot!!

Casual spot with great menu and friendly service. We came on Thurs night and there was plenty of seating. You order at the counter and they bring it out to you. Narrow menu of local brews with one IPA available. My bride ordered the Chicken Quesadilla ($12) and unfortunately for some reason it was super soggy/wet. I went with the The Mayor/Chicken Taco Basket ($12) and the ingredients were fresh - but overall the taco's and salsa were very plain. The black beans were the most flavorful part of the meal. We would come back again and try something different as we'd like to have this place as a quick option for a meal.

I am always looking for good Mexican food and found it at Taco Mama. I really enjoy ahi burritos and saw that it was part of their menu. We headed over there for lunch on the weekend and really enjoyed our meal. I got the build your own burrito with guacamole and it was really good. Portions were on par, guacamole and salsa were strong. I wish I lived closer, but will definitely be going back to grab another burrito. Please support this business.

On a recent visit, my wife and I started with a bowl of chips and queso, accompanied by a pair of oversized house margaritas. Tacos El Nevado came highly recommended, so I headed over for lunch with high hopes. The restaurant was packed when I arrived around 1:30 p.m., which is usually a good sign. It appears to be a converted fast-food building with its own parking lot, outdoor patio, and a casual, family-friendly atmosphere. Despite the Charlotte heat pushing triple digits, the dining room was comfortable and bustling. Service was friendly from the start, and I was quickly seated with ice water, lemon, fresh chips, and three house-made salsas. The chips were excellent--fresh, crisp, and clearly made in-house. The standout salsa for me was the red salsa, which packed plenty of heat and flavor. There was also a tomatillo salsa and a creamy green avocado-style salsa. Both were good, although the tomatillo leaned a little too tart for my taste. The menu is extensive, with everything from seafood dishes and quesadillas to tacos and larger combination plates. As someone who loves sampling a little of everything, I was hoping for more traditional combo options, but this menu takes a different approach. I ordered the crispy taco plate with rice and beans. The presentation was attractive, with the tacos served upright in a metal rack alongside refried beans and Mexican rice. The rice and beans were both delicious and easily the highlight of the plate. Where things got mixed for me was the taco filling. I was expecting a straightforward seasoned ground beef taco, but the beef filling tasted more like a guisado-style preparation with a softer texture and a slightly tangy flavor profile. It may simply be a regional style or a misunderstanding when ordering, but it wasn't what I had anticipated. The chicken taco, however, was excellent. Tender, flavorful, and clearly made with higher-quality chicken than you typically find in a crispy taco. After trying it, I immediately wished I had ordered all chicken. While this visit didn't completely win me over, I don't think it's fair to judge a restaurant by one dish. The packed dining room, friendly service, fresh chips, excellent salsas, and strong chicken taco all suggest there's more to explore here. Next time, I'd skip the crispy beef tacos and dive into the street tacos or some of the house specialties that seem to be what many regulars were ordering. Tacos El Nevado didn't become my favorite Mexican restaurant in Charlotte on this visit, but it earned a second chance. Life is too short not to eat well, Charlotte. Keep exploring. Sometimes the next great meal is just one menu item away.

But I have to start with a small heartbreak: my beloved puffy taco is gone. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where the puffy taco was created, and it's deeply nostalgic for me. It's not a sope, not a tostada--it's a true puffy taco, light, airy, and unlike anything else. For a long time, Superica made one that came remarkably close to what I grew up with. Unfortunately, after changes in leadership and kitchen management, it quietly disappeared from the menu. That was a real disappointment. That said, I still come back--because the food here is consistently good. The crispy tacos with picadillo are my current favorite. Picadillo (P-I-C-A-D-I-L-L-O) is a traditional Latin dish with many regional variations, and this version reminds me of the one my grandmother used to make in San Antonio. The portions are generous, the flavors are balanced, and the menu offers something for everyone--from enchiladas and chile rellenos to steaks and fresh tableside guacamole. Speaking of guacamole, I'm a purist. I like it simple: avocado, jalapeño, cilantro, lime, garlic--chunky and clean. Superica delivers on that. The chips and salsa are bottomless, the salsa has great depth of flavor, and for those who like heat, they offer a tiny dropper of hot sauce that is smoky, bold, and absolutely not for the faint of heart. The ginger margarita is another standout. It comes with a generous piece of crystallized ginger and has a bright, balanced flavor that makes it easy to order a second one. And if you have room for dessert, do not skip the tres leches cake--rich, decadent, and a perfect way to end the meal. I also appreciate the little touches here: * Friendly, knowledgeable waitstaff * A lively bar area that's great for happy hour * A beautiful outdoor patio that makes al fresco dining feel special * And a fun tradition of sending you home with a packaged Texas praline This South End location is my personal favorite. It feels more adult and relaxed, while the Strawberry Hill location tends to be more family-heavy. Both are good, but the vibe here suits me better. Yes, prices have crept up a bit--as they have everywhere--but the quality, consistency, and atmosphere keep me coming back. And as someone who travels frequently for work across multiple states, I appreciate that Superica maintains a dependable standard wherever I encounter it. Bottom line: Even without the puffy taco, Superica remains one of my favorite Tex-Mex spots in Charlotte. Come hungry, bring friends, share plates--and as always, travel safe and eat well.
