Today, all the cash wrap looked as if they hate their jobs, don't say thank you and just throw the receipt at the clients. The restaurant review - on the West side of the building which also houses the grocery, and bakery... Really simple, very casual, and a great value. The service was always friendly, clean, and generous. Even though I could order in Spanish, I don't necessarily look like I could, and was still treated to their best. Most of the other people dining order in Spanish. Everything I've tried was good, not from the microwave, fresh, and flavorful. I like the grilled chicken salad which is 2 portions, the enchiladas, the fresh pressed juice, and the steak. The grocery side includes a butcher shop, and it seemed like you could taste the difference in freshness. It's not like getting a prime strip at Bavette's - but for it's type, quite good. I hate to say "it's alright" on my review. Why would you yelpers read my review if I didn't have anything else to say, or provide any insight on the things I saw? Well, this grocery store really is "alright" to the bone. In my opinion, there are too many Hispanic grocery stores in Albany Park, so the competition is definitively ON! The freshness of the produce items, from what I observed, wasn't nearly as superior as what Cermak Produce offers. On the other hand, the prices weren't fantastic, but they were within the average and acceptable to my purchasing standard. I usually don't purchase any butchered meat and poultry items, but their meat department looked clean and had more extensive selections than Chicago Produce located on two (2) blocks west. The same phenomenon applied on the seafood and hot-food departments. If I want fresh seafood, I would prefer to shop at Lindo Michoacan than at Chicago Produce or at Mayfair because that department has more visual appeal. Since I fix mostly vegetarian dishes at home, Chicago Produce is my preferred grocery store for veggies and fruit. In other words, traveling further in order to shop at Lindo Michoacan doesn't seem so necessary. Anyways, I wasn't too impressed overall. read more

Still a limited selection, and the prices aren't always clearly marked, but there have been improvements. For one thing, the whole place just seems a little bit cleaner and better organized, without the weird smell that I remember. If I'm in the area, I always have to stop by and get some donuts or conchas. Their donuts are made fresh on the daily and they're DELICIOUS! The thing that sets off their donuts from other donut places is the icing they use. The icing is not your typical sugary flavored icing. The "white" icing as you can see in my picture is white chocolate, and the "chocolate" icing is legit milk chocolate. The donut itself is a fried delight that'll leave your taste buds wanting more. The conchas, a traditional Mexican bread roll, was delicious. Everytime I go here, I know their baked goods are always fresh. read more

But, I have already done that and don't care to comment. 5 stars for possibly the best carnitas possible outside of Mexico, if you peer through the swinging doors you will see workers churning stainless pots of this pork confit over blazing fires...kinda looked like the hell scene in the Constantine movie. If you haven't done this yet, and aren't squeamish...pick the parts you want. I usually get a pound or two mixed, a little stomach, skin, ribs, and lean meat. Grab a pack of the homemade tortillas and find some green sauce. Go to the crib and chop everything up. Use tortillas to shovel both lbs. of meat into your face, drink the green sauce. I live right across the street so in terms of convenience they are great. Since I don't eat the traditional Mexican diet though I give it two stars. The only time I find this place useful is when I am getting ready to make salsa or want Coke that is product de Mexico and HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) free. Other than the occasional thing I need in a hurry I would rather go to Andy's Fruit Ranch or Harvestime Foods. Also, on the weekends this place is mega packed and the traffic on Lawrence doesn't help make this parking lot any less of a nightmare so if you are thinking about driving here don't, it is always hell. read more

I went in tonight after dinner because I wanted to finally try a Concha. I have--for years-- seen them in bakeries and in bakery windows, but never quite got around to trying one. Today I was determined to change that. I went in and the staff was super nice explaining the flavors to me and how to go about getting them (unlike other markets, you have to place them in a tray using their tongs, give it to the attendant, and have them label the bag). I have to say using the tongs that have been used all day by any number of people was pretty gross. Each pair was caked with the remnants of everything and it picked up: donuts, croissants, cakes, etc. That cannot be sanitary. They get three stars because it was still pretty delicious. read more

I've had a couple bad experiences here dealing with the management when trying to get some food catered, and I know for a fact they were trying to jip me. But, it's a solid grocery store. The produce and bakery areas are good, but the butchers have been pretty consistently rude to me. The pre-made food is fine, predictable, and pretty cheap. Went to get carnitas this weekend after a bike ride. Went at around 2:30pm and the line was about 10 people ahead! They were quick though and I was in and out in under 15 minutes. Got a pound for $9. Made some tacos at home. Lindo's meat area is where it's at. I can't wait to take my sister from little village here!!! read more

This is a perfect small grocery store for those who want to make a quick and convenient grocery trip. Certainly there are a few items you can't find, but that's part of going to *any* small grocery store. If you need to choose from 36 different kinds of bread, go to Jewel or some other huge chain. Simply put, this is your typical neighborhood supermercado. And if you've never been to a supermercado (seriously?), this is a good place to start. The first thing you see when you walk in is the produce section. Fairly priced, fresh produce with an emphasis on Mexican staples. I happen to love cooking with these ingredients, so yay for me! It also helps to be a little creative in the kitchen (translation: just because it's a supermercado doesn't mean you have to make Mexican food every night, duh). They have a bakery section with an array of pan dulce (like conchas) and bolillos. By the way, bolillos are fantastic for breakfast egg sandwiches. They're even better with chorizo, which you can also purchase here. I noticed that most of the customers had gravitated towards the prepared food section, which had several dishes already made and ready to eat. I noticed a couple stew-like dishes, Mexican rice, carnitas, and chicken. I'll make sure to try their prepared food next time, because everything looked very tasty. Other random notes on the place - they have an impressive glass-bottled soda selection. $1 Mexican Cokes, Fresca, Sidral Mundet (apple soda), Jarritos, Senorial (non-alcoholic sangria), and several other glass-bottled sodas. They also have 2 liter Coco Rico (coconut soda) and Inca Kola (Peruvian soda). I also loved their huge selection of fruit juices and nectars. I purchased a few cans of passion fruit juice, which is excellent in cocktails (passion fruit margaritas, anyone?) Yes, there are several other grocery stores in the area, but the more the merrier. And don't forget about their sister restaurant (aptly named Lindo Michoacan, of course) right next door. read more

I don't usually review grocery stores but this store was awful. The parking lot was so full that I had to park on the street and pay $2.35 to meter park. The aisles are a joke, you can only fit one cart down the aisle at a time. The wait for meat from the butcher department was over 45 min long, not to mention the horrible stench of what smells like rotting milk while you wait your turn. Everything was overpriced from the milk to the meat and I had to lug 10 heavy bags to my car because you can't take the shopping cart out of the stores enclosed entry way. It has great produce and an amazing variety of cheese, Canned goods, spices, etc. The roast chicken is the best grocery store chicken I've had in my LIFE and it comes with onions and jalapeños. Excellent red meat....skirt steak, arrachera, and they have oxtails and other things at great prices. Their fresh fish area is only so so.....the vegetables can sometimes be hit or miss, like wilted slightly....but root veggies, watermelon & fruits seem to be fresher. I shop here for red meats and they are always fresh, high turnover for the food because they are pretty busy with a line for the meat & fish department. I -love- this place! Everyone is super friendly, the produce is fantastic, the meat is great, and the hot food in the deli is always a treat! I speak no spanish, so sometimes it is a bit awkward communicating, but they always sort it out with a smile. The chipotle cheese is my new crack addiction! The bakery is amazing - I had never been in a mexican grocery store/bakery prior to this one.. so the first time I go up to the baked goods I wait patiently for someone to help me, the woman from behind the counter comes out and is all smiles with the tray and helps me with my selection (with pointing and holding up fingers to indicate quanitity). To my embarassment, I tell my friend and landlord this story and she almost wets her pants laughing at me, apparently the bakery is self-service in getting your baked goods. So now whenever I see the woman who helped me I get embarassed, but she is always smiling (in fact all the ladies are smiling at me). It's a great place, check it out! Some stuff could be cheaper, but you will be hard pressed to find their prices at Jewel or Dominicks! read more

I like the store because it it just a block away from where I live. The butchers are always very pleasant and quite helpful - the cashiers are very friendly and polite. I do have to add that the food is quite pricey and do not come here in the weekends because the entire parking lot is full and you will be waiting in line FOREVER by the butchers' at the back of the store. A hidden treasure for me. I live in east lake view area and "all" the grocery stores have a poor selection of oxtails Yes, I said ox tails! They used to be very inexpensive and now they are a gourmet food. I make a great oxtail soup and was in dire straits for the main ingredient. I have gone by Supermercado Lindo Michoacan many times. After going to the regular places and coming out empty handed I went to Supermercado Lindo Michoacan. Very busy, well stocked with oxtails (beautiful and very fresh) plus $2.00/ # less then the other supermarkets. I will be going back to this market for meat and vegetables, cheaper and the butchers were great. Step out of your element, stretch your boundaries this was a great experience. read more

I wish I could give this joke of a grocery store zero stars. I was excited to have more than one grocery store within walking distance when I signed my lease in Albany Park for July 1 move in. However, I will never shop at this grocery store ever again. On July 17 I had done some shopping at Andy's across the street but they didn't have guacamole so I decided to check Michoacan before heading home. I get into the store and do a quick lap around but didn't see any guac so I start to leave. As I am trying to walk out there is a man waiting for me at the door demanding I let him search my bag. I know this is bordering on illegal but I also know I didn't do anything wrong and I don't want to cause a scene so I just let him search my bag. He's like we sell these here (tortilla chips) so I told him I bought it from Andy's then he demands to see a receipt. Thank God I had kept the receipt or I would have been in the back of a squad car. So after him and his associate check everything on my receipt matches what was in my bag he starts trying to apologize but it's too late. I yanked my bag back from him and left. Fucking ridiculous customer service. They treat a normal looking customer in my work clothes like a criminal. They will never see another dime.of my hard earned money as long as I live. read more

This place has the best carnitas in Chicago! I've been coming here for years and the quality has never changed. I always buy two pounds con masisa, cuerito, buche, y tripita pero nada de costillas oh and don't forget la salsa and a pack of tortillas. They also sell hot foods such as chicken, rice, barbacoa, chicharron and much more. The day before thanksgiving this store booted my husband (charging him $200) despite the fact that he was 10 feet from his car (helping a person who car had died) and I had shopped there minutes before. We live three blocks from this store and use to visit there very often - the owner did nothing when we explained our situation. To make matter worse, today on my walk to the next nearest grocery store, I had to pass Lindo Michoacan - THEY DID NOT SHOVEL THEIR SIDEWALKS!! So they can charge us, and we have to comply with the city ordinance but they are free to possess our property and not follow city rules!!! The manager is incredible rude, unprofessional and uneducated. I entered with my medical service dog, and was accosted by the store manager who refused to give me her name or her superior's name. When I pointed out my service dog's vest and attempted to explain what the federal Americans with Disabilities Act was, she attempted to argue with me further. She was incredibly insensitive and combative. To be harassed in this way, as a person with a disability, is unacceptable. I'm filing a formal complaint with the city and the Better Business Bureau. Wanted to make authentic tamales. We went to Lindo and asked one of the check girls for help. The owner came out with one of his nephews. He help us pick out all we would need to make the tamales. The laid out the process for us. The came out great, but that is another story. The kicker is the food counter in the back. The array of prepared foods, carnitas, barbacoa, the roasted chicken especially had great flavor. The sides of beans, rice and salsas, also excellent taste. We packed up lunch for 4. But one thing I and my friends really hate every time we go there is when we pay our bill with credit card they alway ask us if they can put the tips on the credit card.tips are if we happy with service .
