Hands down the main reason why I keep coming back here a lot. But in all seriousness, we also enjoy their soup dumplings or as they call it, "juicy buns" and shumai with a side of steamed bokchoy. They have such a unique take with dim sums/dumplings that I can honestly appreciate. I also love love love their chili oil that is readilg available on the table. The restaurant ambiance is nice with good seating. The servers here has been consistently kind and accommodating. I look forward to coming back.

Both the dim sum menu and a lunch menu with standard Chinese restaurant fare were available. My party got the general tso's chicken from the lunch menu, and it was exceptional. Good-quality white meat with just enough spice. Heads up, though, the lunch dishes don't come with rice, so order that separately. From the dim sum menu, we ordered braised tripe with ginger & scallion, fried shrimp rolls, shrimp dumplings, steamed chicken buns, and crab meat soup dumplings. The braised tripe was a standout. It was cooked in a light yet flavorful sauce of ginger and scallion with the tripe's own broth. The delicateness of the sauce worked perfectly with the tripe. The dumplings were all great, especially the soup dumplings. The steamed chicken bun was the only thing I'd skip. It was on the heavier side, and the filling was just okay. The bill came out to about what I expected for the amount of food we ordered--$65 before tip. The service was friendly, and taking our order and getting the food was quick. After the food arrived, though, it was a little difficult to flag down a server to order more and later to get the check. Still, it was understandable given how busy they were, constantly collecting orders and putting out food. Overall, Canton Palace is a great find for anyone looking for this style of Chinese food outside of the usual New York neighborhoods.

You really cannot go wrong with any of the standard dim sum items or American-Chinese classics, but they have a huge array of authentic Cantonese items. If you're not sure where to start, go with the assorted dim sum, soup dumplings, and the spicy salted pork chop.

Although the decor is simple, the bold use of red and gold makes it highly memorable--and the space is very clean. Even though the bowls and chopsticks are disposable, there's clear attention to detail. The chopsticks feel great to use, and they are even engraved with "上海小笼," which is a thoughtful touch. The bowls are made of thick, sturdy paper, with a beautiful red base and gold rim--both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly. Ordering is done through a self-service kiosk, but there are still staff members nearby. When it's not busy, they are friendly and happy to assist with any questions. The Noodle in Scallion Sauce (上海葱油拌麵) has a rich scallion oil flavor with perfectly chewy noodles, while the Cold Noodle w. Peanut Butter Sauce (麻將涼拌麵) is packed with a strong peanut flavor and equally chewy texture. Both dishes are delicious and taste very similar to Taiwanese sesame noodles. Every dish is served fresh and hot, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. Whenever I'm in Edison, I can't help but come back to try more items on the menu.

Both felt like a warm hug. The scallion pancake w beef was tasty but it was overwhelmed by too much hoisin sauce + the pancake was a little greasy. The black sesame mochi and veggie soup dumplings were criminal. We forgave the dessert and terrible veggie soup dumplings and returned for a second visit to try more items so the new items we tried were: - chicken udon noodles (stir fry) - cucumber salad Both were mediocre and not worth getting. Cucumber salad lacked flavor. Udon noodles were plain and flavor was minimal. I would return for the beef noodle soup, the broth was rich yet light. The beef was so tender it melted in your mouth. If you have a beef soup craving this will hit the spot. Service was quick and consistent.
