8.9/10 Ordered the Works Burger, Copeland Mushroom Burger, and the Grilled Chicken Salad. Overall, the burgers and salad were satisfying, and the restaurant had a great casual burger-joint vibe. Starting with the Works Burger, which was the highlight of the meal. The patty was juicy and well-seasoned, and the combination of avocado, bacon, and sauce added a lot of flavor. Everything worked well together and made the burger feel indulgent. That said, it could have used more mushrooms, and it leaned a bit too heavy on the sauce. The bun was also a little soft, if it had been toasted or slightly charred, it would have held up better to the sauce and added a nice texture and flavor contrast. Next was the Copeland Mushroom Burger. This one had a juicy patty topped with mushrooms and grilled onions. The amount of mushrooms was good, and the cheese paired really nicely with the toppings. The grilled onions were a nice touch and didn't overpower the burger at all. While it was solid and enjoyable, it didn't feel particularly unique, more like a burger you could recreate at home. Similar to the Works Burger, it was a bit too saucy and could have benefited from a toasted or charred bun for more structure and flavor. The Grilled Chicken Salad was excellent. It came with generous portions of grilled chicken and bacon, plus half an avocado. Everything tasted fresh, and it felt like a healthy, well-balanced option. No complaints here, definitely a great choice if you're looking for a lighter dish. Service was fast and friendly, and the overall atmosphere was nice. It definitely has that classic burger-joint feel. Overall, a solid spot with good food and a good vibe.

Super friendly service, Ly helped us order at the register and she was great. Plenty of seating. Not super clean or dirty, just kind of okay imo. The beer was okay, the hard kombucha was okay. the Sur burger with cheese was meh, the onion rings were good. The salmon burger was good the fries were mid. Overall, it was ok but with all the other options in the area, I'd probably go elsewhere.

Ordered a 6pc wing combo, which should come with 2 sauces; came with none. Also ordered a phoenix sandwich combo, which came with no sauce on either bun. Coleslaw on my sandwich was soggy and mushy. Cold, dried out food, very disappointed.

Located in Old Monterey. I ordered the Number One with raw onions. The burger was fresh and flavorful, with a juicy patty cooked just right. The cheese was melted perfectly and the raw onions gave it a crisp bite that balanced out the richness of the beef. The bun was soft but held everything together without getting messy. It had that classic diner-style taste but with a little extra attention to freshness. Service was quick and the staff was friendly. The spot itself has a casual, relaxed feel, good for a quick lunch or an easy dinner. Portion size was filling without being over the top. Solid burger spot in Monterey. Highly recommend.

I was able to walk to this restaurant from my hotel. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich as it seemed like the lightest option. The food arrived fresh and hot, but lacked seasoning so it was bland and the chicken was very dry. They had good service but the fountain drinks had a strange flavor and the beverage station was out of lids, straws and napkins. If I went back again, I would order something different and make sure I had sauces and seasonings to go.

Probably not the perfect time to get a burger during Monterey Car Week but I couldn't pass up on food before bed. I got the big kahuna burger. Now this burger is a common menu item but when I read that it included jalapeño peppers I couldn't pass it up. Not only did the peppers add some flare to the overall flavor of the burger, but there was something uniquely different in this burger than all other kahuna burgers I've had. The wait was over 1/2hr but fortunately my hotel was directly across the street. The restaurant itself was packed and still room to sit at the bar while I waited for my order. It turns out the it's a family owed business started by Cambodians who moved to the area a very long time ago. So maybe there's some native seasonings they're using but it was delicious and a very big burger. I was good at eating half but finished the whole thing because I was so damn good. Great atmosphere.

We walked in and were seated right away. The restaurant was nice and clean. There was a soda machine and tea machine. The bathroom needed help because there wasn't any toilet paper or seat covers. The food was great! My son had the fried chicken burger which he ate the entire thing! He said it was really good. My daughter ordered the grilled cheese and I like how it was on wheat bread. She really liked the fries too. I had a cheeseburger but protein style, so no bread just lettuce wrapped. It was really good. The atmosphere was cool and chill. They had tvs on the wall, and bills from all over the world that the kids were fascinated with.

Okay I know this is a burger place but I got the salmon salad and it was delicious! Way way better than I expected from a burger place for sure. It was cooked perfectly and had such a good flavor plus it was huge! I also liked that they make some of their own dressings! I got the homemade thousand island and ate all of it.

Great burger place. Had the Sur Classic. Juicy half pound patty smothered in cheese grilled onions, tomatoes, lettuce and sauce.. very tasty. Service is fast and nice casual bar and dinning area with free drink refills.

I came here with a co-worker for lunch during a work trip. We both really enjoyed our burgers. The staff was friendly and the food was made very quickly. The fries were cooked perfectly which was great but they had no salt on them at all. I didn't want to be annoying and ask for salt so I just ate them. Overall I recommend coming here if you're looking for a good burger.

Satisfying giant burgers and fries (also grilled wings which are great!). Multiple proteins available and fries, rings and other sides multiple ways. Order at the stand then wait for your order to arrive at your table. Indoor or outdoor seating is first come first served. Large groups could be difficult to seat. It's not a cheap burger, so patience on them getting it right.

Good variety on the menu. Sur ring of fire ( cod fish sandwich) is good. Avoid the chili cheese dog. It is drowning with cheese and chili sauce. Combo comes with fries and refillable soft drinks. Fries substitute cost extra and it can adds up. Service- Server takes your order, give you cup to fill up your drinks, brought you food and checks.

Fast, friendly and convenient. But... Food was very average at best. Ordered the Pt Lobos burger and Veggie burger plus sweet potato fries. ~$35 w/o tip. Honestly all the ingredients seemed like they were bought at Costco. In 'n Out burgers or Carl's Jr. western bacon burger are better especially for the money. This place is under new ownership and it won't last if they don't improve fast. read more

Was on vacation the last week and wanted a really delicious burger spot, found this on here and decided to try it out. It did not disappoint!!! A matter a fact, I woke up this morning craving another, but we are 4 hours driving distance away ..when I tell you we would make the drive just for this place, it's no joke! The burger was juicy and flavorful, the bun had a steamed slightly crisp taste to it, the bacon had lots of flavor alone with the perfect amount of crisp to it, the sauce was ULTRA delicious, the best burger sauce I've ever had and the fries were perfectly crispy and just thin enough. Nothing was greasy whatsoever and you left feeling full and content. The woman serving us was super polite and sweet and had over the top customer service. She was doing it all and great at it! The atmosphere is cozy, comfortable; welcoming and just the right amount of light. Bright enough to see and enjoy yourself and dark enough to be cozy and want to stay a while. Plenty of room for large or small crowds and in a prime location you can't miss. Plenty of high chairs and space for your little ones as well! Will we be coming back? ABSOLUTELY. Staff was really friendly. I was pretty stoked about this place. From the signage and where it was (a fancy street) and the prices, I was expect a high quality craft burger. Straight up, the burgers are at a low grade burger joint level for $13. Really disappointed, just looking at it, in and out looks and tastes way better and literally half the price. Tasting it was just cheap ingredients. Felt scammed for sure. Not going back. read more

Planned to have a birthday meal from here with family- distanced and safe- but a good size order to go. Called ahead to ask about GF and DF options. Price was a steep for a burger joint. The food was good, and the staff was friendly. They did skimp on the fries as others mentioned. I also wish they would have grilled the buns as they didn't hold up very well. Cost for 4 combos with tax and tip was $83. Would prob choose In and Out for half the cost. read more

Best spicy chicken burger ever tasted!!! The chicken was crispy outside and juicy inside served with avocado, spicy and tangy cabbage slaw. If you don't like spicy and tangy you can skip the slaw and will still tastes good with avocado and other condiments. Everything they serve is fresh and made to order. LOVE THIS PLACE!!! The price is very reasonable in a tourist destination and the staff is so nice and friendly. Definitely will come back again when visit Monterey next time. read more

We had a 40 minute opening to get lunch. No one was in line ahead of me, in a group of six I was the first to order. all my friends and some people that got there after me got their food. Billy Quon has done it again. The food at Sur Burger is delicious! Its not your ordinary burger place. If you are looking for burgers with that extra WOW factor, then this is the place. It is a walkup joint so seating is limited inside with outdoor seating as well. When we arrived it was busy but we were able to get a seat as we finished our order. Delivery was fast and service was friendly and courteous. There is also a condiment station with onion marmalade, pickled onion, pickles, jalapenos and don't even get me started on the additional sauces that you can choose from. We went in on a Wednesday evening during a fairly quiet time for them. Initially my hopes were fairly high because of other reviews and their relatively impressive decor/atmosphere, but things soon took a turn for the worse. I ordered a works burger and the person I was with ordered a chicken sandwich. I asked for no sauce on my burger (don't typically like ranch-based sauces), and my dining partner confirmed that, as specified on the menu, hot sauce would be on the side. Our food came out really quick (as in so quick there's no way it was freshly cooked), and my burger had a large helping of sauce, while my dining partner's hot sauce was on his sandwich rather than being on the side. Luckily the 'hot sauce' wasn't hot and the sauce on my burger didn't taste strongly of ranch, so we just lived with it. The burger itself was fairly overcooked, though basically passable, while the chicken sandwich was limp and unimpressive. The worst part of the meal however was the fries. I'm not sure what they did to them but they were absolutely soaking wet with vaguely-fishy tasting oil, and I couldn't eat more than a couple. This could be a good last resort if we didn't have so many other good burger places; I'd strongly recommend RG Burgers (or even 5 Guys, in and out, or habit) over this place, it's a real shame they don't invest the same effort into their food as they did with their branding and decor. read more

This place is AMAZING! The owner is incredibly kind and hospitable. I wanted to have my birthday here in July, and I had a group of 13... so I called to make reservations a few days beforehand! Turns out they don't take reservations, BUT the owner told me that he would make special arrangements for me, and to call the day beforehand to remind him, and then call the day of, about an hour or so before we get there. I called both times, he remembered me, AND he went so far as to move his whole seating arrangement around in the restaurant so that my group could sit together! You really don't find customer service like THAT anymore! Also, the food is phenomenal to top it all off. Thanks, Sur Burger for an incredible birthday experience! read more

This place was awesome! The food tasted amazing. Great burger. We had a friend with us that doesn't eat beef and they tried the veggie burger. They weren't very happy with it - and the owner brought her something new free of charge. We tried paying for it, but they refused. They wanted to ensure she was happy. That is amazing customer service. Will definitely visit again when I'm in town. read more

I got the sliders and a side salad. I had the salad but only of the sliders. The cheese on it was queso, like you use to dip chips, so it was ran all over the place and the burger was a grease ball. I won't even get into what everyone else had, but they had similar experiences. Overall, it was pretty disappointing. Sur Burger hands down has the best burgers on Alvarado St in Monterey. They have a great condiment bar with some of the best coleslaw I've had in a really long time and that says a lot for someone who likes eating out a lot. The burgers are very tasty and a fair price for gourmet burgers. For being a burger shop it has many features that set it apart, from its attentive employees to its amazing condiment bar with a large variety of sauces and toppings to its beautiful decor. If you're on a budget and want to have a great time this really is the place to go. Definitely recommend to anyone and everyone. read more

Used to love this place when it first opened, but recently took my Dad here to celebrate his birthday and we were both still hungry after our meal. The portion sizes were so small, the ingredients were weak, and the burger was very basic. We both agreed to not come back. It's a shame that a burger restaurant can't make a decent burger anymore. We both went to In-N-Out to have a proper burger experience and paid less than what we paid for here. Hopefully things get better. read more
