This will be my coffee stop from now on my commute San Diego -Anaheim. It's not that far from the 5. Their pastries are so good!! The berries muffin is addictive honestly. Independently owned coffee shop, located just off El Camino Real in San Clemente. All of their coffee is single origin, and roasted in house. In fact, you can catch a glimpse of the process while you wait for your coffee. They work directly with farmers in coffee-producing countries around the world to select high quality, unique beans. Sur Coffee currently has 3 locations in Orange County. On the afternoon I visited, there was a long line, and only one barista working. He was really friendly, but ultimately I waited 25 minutes for a Flat White and a Cinnamon Roll. The Flat White was excellent; in fact, one of the best renditions of this drink I've ever had. The espresso was creamy, bold, and had no residual acidity. Honestly, 10/10. The Cinnamon Roll, on the other hand, was terrible. Even after being warmed up, it was so rock hard that I could not cut it with a knife. I had to rip it apart with my hands, and even that was difficult. The icing tasted good, but the pastry itself was so tough that I could not chew it. There were no other pastry/food options, but do not order this. read more

There were 5 (that's right FIVE!) young employees all messing around behind the bar, chatting, laughing, showing photos to each other and didn't give a F about making anyone's drink properly despite the line being almost to the door. Looks like we need to spend more time in San Clemente because the food and drinks are all so great. We stopped in early on a Sunday and were warmly greeted by friendly staff (and greeted by a beautiful pastry display we couldn't say no to) The cafe itself is spacious and clean. There are plenty of tables inside and a few out front if you feel like staying for a bit. The pastries were all freshly baked- the cinnamon rolls were scooped directly from the baking dish into our box and were decadent. A great mix of crispy edges with ooey gooey centers. The cranberry orange scrone was perfectly sweet. I got a cold brew, black, which was great and my husband got a vanilla oat milk latte which he enjoyed. His drink was a light sweetness and he was thrilled. So many shops make their drinks overly sappy sweet. Would recommend stopping in here! read more

I will say, it's pretty gross to be sitting and having a coffee while people with dirty, bare feet with open sores walk around the shop. This person went into the restroom barefoot and walked around inside the store, which was pretty gnarly. Cashier and baristas noticed and didn't even care. Had we not already purchased food and a coffee, we would have walked out and not bought anything here. This spoke volumes about lack of concern for any type of cleanliness to us. I get it, we live in a beach town. But don't say you as a business are adhering to "strict COVID protocols" or really ANY hygienic standards if you're just going to allow this. Just gross. The coffee here is really good! You can always tell how good a coffee shop is going to be based on their cold brew and this one was very good and pleasantly bold. I also ordered the iced vanilla latte with oat milk and the sweet cream cold brew and both were good as well! The syrups tasted high quality and not overly sweet. My husband and I came on a Sunday mid morning and it was very busy, but once you ordered the coffee was made pretty quickly. We didn't try any food or pastries, but would like to come back and try them out next time - it says on their menu that all their food is house made. It was a Sunday morning... Maybe I came on a wrong day? I was visiting the area after attending a wedding a couple miles from the coffee shop. Of all the places I found, I chose this one given the great reviews. It was a little hard to find given there are a lot of little cute shops in the area. The atmosphere is aesthetic and hipster. A few people were studying inside but not too many. We ordered an iced latte and a hot latte. The order I actually wanted was an iced vanilla or hazelnut or any flavor latte with oat milk and a hot vanilla latte and a bakery good. They ran out of all syrups beside simple syrup. Not one flavor was available. They also ran out of all bakery goods besides one muffin. When our drinks came out the latte has spilled over and the barista did not care to wipe the cup so it eventually became sticky. It was disappointing. read more

I am a huge fan of SUR. I love that the owners have their daughter working. It should be noted that this shop is a SoCal chain. Culture: This coffee shop is in the heart of San Clemente, CA. Everytime i visit, there are people reading the bible and talking about Jesus. It's truly Amazing. I know many local bible studies and church groups use this space to meet. Coffee: They roast in house, literally right by the cash register. However, it should be noted that there roaster(s) have changed over the years and they are quite young. SUR is at the top of the coffee game in south OC, along with Bear Coast Coffee and Hidden House Coffee. SUR is innovative with their menu while staying consistent with their coffees. Design/ambiance: This shop is spacious and always full. It's a great place to meet new people, have a conversation, or get some work done. The staff is very friendly and personable and very friendly. It has a fun modern beach theme that appeals to the masses: locals and tourists. There is also a nice (small) outdoor space with peakaboo ocean view. Definitely worth a visit if your in town, and a great local shop if you live near by and want quality coffee. read more

As a regular to this spot I am super bummed to be writing a bad review. Typically the coffee at Sur is amazing, and I always get an iced vanilla latte with oat milk. Today I went in for the same thing, but was given a latte that tasted extremely funky and had white specks in. Having worked in the coffee business and restaurant industry I knew this was 100% spoiled milk. Not a big deal, but definitely gross, and this was $8 so whatever I'll go ask for a new one. I figured it wouldn't be an issue but then I was met with animosity from a barista saying that I might not be used to the acidity of the coffee, denying it was spoiled, etc. like I've never had coffee before and without even offering to remake it or check the milk. There was a female barista who was kind and let me know they would remake it for me and dump it out which I was grateful for. He began to read the expiration date out loud to seemingly prove his point to which he said "May" and then trailed off, because it's June... lol. It's a bummer really, to feel so uncomfortable going to a spot I usually love to get coffee at and I wish it was handled better. read more
