Genuinely surprised I haven't left a review sooner. It's a small, quaint shop with a clean and mellow interior, relaxing jazz playing in the background, and aroma of freshly brewed coffee that always transports me back to Japan. Daisuke and his team greet everyone with such genuine warmth that you immediately feel welcomed. Their hospitality is unmatched, but what keeps me coming back is the consistency. Every drink is made with care, and they're always happy to take the time to explain the differences between their beans, recommend something based on your preferences, and answer any questions without ever making you feel rushed. You can tell they truly care about both their craft and their customers. I usually order the café au lait, and it's the only coffee shop where I'm confident in asking them to make it however they like. Every now and then I'll also pick up a bag of their beans to brew at home, and I highly recommend doing the same. They carefully help you choose from their wide variety, then grind the beans for you or sell them whole if you have your own grinder. Grinding fresh beans takes about 15-20 minutes, so if you're driving from farther away, I'd recommend calling ahead or placing an order through their website for pickup. The quality of the coffee speaks for itself, but what really sets this place apart is the experience. I had no idea this coffee shop was located in this shopping center. It is two doors down from Okoyama Kobo and it can be easy to miss. I wanted to buy coffee beans for my espresso machine. I asked the cashier what he would recommend based on my preferences and he came through with an absolute killer recommendation. If you purchase whole beans, they will roast them for you. The process will take 30 minutes, so keep that in mind. You will also have the rest of the beans for 4 to 7 days before being able to use them. You can purchase the beans in three different size bags. Can't wait to go back! As an extra, the staff is very friendly and the coffee shop is super cute. read more

Excellence in every Roast. at Mameya, there is precisely. And passion to every bean. Service is great. The employees are very knowledgeable and friendly if you have any questions or inexperienced. The ambiance is intimate and rather small. There isn't a lot of space where you can sit or stand. Pros: I ordered their pour over common blend and it was solid. I also grabbed a 12oz bag of their Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Natural. It took about 20 minutes for them to complete the roasting process. After 4 days, I grinned the beans for a pour over and could tell this was already going to be a decent cup of joe. I did not see any significant bloom but the draw time was great based on my grind size. Cons: This shop is too far and too small so if there is a line and you don't have time, you might have to skip the experience. ove this cute little coffee shop next to Okayama Kubo Bakery! Last Sunday, a few friends and I came here to catch up and work on some things together. The shop is small but super aesthetic and cozy. What really caught our attention was their wide selection of coffee beans -- so many varieties to choose from! This time, we decided to skip buying beans and just enjoy the drinks instead. We ordered café au lait with whole milk and another with almond milk -- both were absolutely delicious. One of our friends was hoping for an espresso, but unfortunately, they don't serve it here. Wonderful craft coffee house in South County. Mameya Coffee Roasters is a Japan based coffee chain that is starting to spread to California. They focus on single origin coffees from all different coffee powerhouse regions. Their preps are simple... Pour Over, Auto Drip, Cafe au Lait. You can get things hot or iced. You can also add a flavored syrup to your drink for an extra $.50, but they do not do any crazy themed flavor drinks. They just let the coffee shine because they carry very good roasts. I tried their Cold Brew and their Iced Cafe au Lait. Both were stellar. On the cold brew the bean profile really comes out. With the Cafe au Lait it's just enough milk while still letting the coffee nuances to poke out. If you order a hot drink you have many more bean choices. They also sell bags of beans that you can take with you. They do not have crazy lines here, but they have a steady flow of customers from the times I've visited. "Kobe-style Coffee Roaster in a Socal Plaza" Visited this coffee roaster on a recc from a friend and was pleasantly surprised by the Japanese-style aesthetic. The shop really reminds you of a lot of new age coffee roasters that are popular in Tokyo and Kyoto. They have a simple menu of pour over, drip, or cold brew. No espresso drinks but it worked out for me because my go to is usually a pour over. I got the Panama washed pour over which had a bright, nutty profile. It had a zingy tartness to start, followed with a honeyed sweetness and toasty finish. But I think what really stands out about this place is their roasting service. They have around 30 different beans to choose from along with 7 roast levels, and they will roast a bag of beans fresh for you. There is a good spread of regions, processing, and prices that you can choose from along with what size bag you want to buy. I picked up a 12oz washed colombia supremo bag and had it as a medium roast. Overall I'd say this place is a great spot if you're looking for a nice Japanese-style roaster. Saw this place on social media and finally got around to stopping by. It's a cute little coffee shop with a lot of choices for coffee beans. The staff were very nice and helpful. I ordered a cafe au lait with oat milk and hazelnut syrup and it was super hot and tasted yummy. They don't charge extra for an alternative milk. This was one of the best coffees I've had from a coffee shop. I wish that they also had espresso drinks, though. I also ordered an 8-oz bag of the espresso blend beans. I've never been to a place where they roast the beans right then and there for you so it was a new experience for me. They allow you to choose the acidity/roast level of the beans, which was cool. They recommended the full city for the espresso blend. It took about 20 mins for them to roast the beans and they recommend waiting a few days for the beans to degas before using for espresso. I waited about 5 days before I used it. The espresso shot I pulled was very clean and the texture was very smooth. Definitely one of the best espresso I've ever made. Us LA people don't hear much about the South OC vibe for coffee much especially past Irvine. Mameya is a dimond in the rough. We were headed to SJC and we wanted to check out a coffee roaster I search on Yelp that appeared to be a hidden gem in hella way south OC. Mameya is a Japanese coffee roaster that's been around since 1995. It's rare you'll find a coffee roaster like Mameya that has green coffee beans and roast coffee for you on the spot. There are a few place in LA but I've yet to visit. There's about 20 or so barrels of different green coffee beans to choose from. All from different countries, different coffee bean varieties, and different processing methods. If you're a coffee nerd like myself, you'll appreicate Mameya. The process of coffee is definitely more a science and craft if you've studied it. Choose your green coffee beans by the weight with the 1/2 lb minimum and you can request to roast your coffee in any of the 8 different ways. Japanese and American roast are very different. Italian roast from what I understand is one of the darkest roast specifically for espresso. I took home a Nicaraguan Geisha coffee anaerobic washed (processed in yeast and fermented for a few days) and requested for a light roast. I prefer drip coffee and light roast so I can taste the notes. Very good coffee. The best I've had? No, had better but very very good quality. Fun experience with a great selection of single origin coffees to choose from. A must visit if you're passing Laguna Hills. read more

I'm not much of a caffeine person myself and my favorite among their decaf varieties is the sugarcane process Colombian coffee - it's a better flavor for a coffee for me. They sell Brio Brio's awesome mini brownies here, which are super moist and only $3.50! The people here are the best and they all speak Japanese, which makes me feel like I'm in Japan or at least reconnecting with it, which I'd like to do more often. I came here on a weekday and it was nice and calm. I loved strolling into the shop and taking my team to take in the wide variety of coffee beans that they had. If you're new to beans, you can ask the shop keeper and they are more than willing to provide whatever infromation you need, or didn't even know you need! I never had a reason to come out to this area but this place drew me in. I bookmarked this place after seeing Timmy S's review. This place is great for coffee purists. It doesn't have any fancy latte drinks. It just offers pour over and cold brew with option to add some milk if you like. You can also purchase whole beans. It has over 30 different beans to choose from and they will roast everything to order. There are eight different roast levels ranging from light to very dark. I normally prefer dark roast but the ones here are much darker than I expected. On my first visit I got Nicaragua Honey Process beans at full city roast level (3rd darkest roast level) and it was too bitter for me. On my second visit I got Columbia Supremo at city roast and it was just right for me. I can probably go one level lighter at high roast. Service was very professional and polite. My only suggestion for this place is to use resealable bags for its beans. There's limited seating inside but there are plenty of tables & chairs outside. read more

The staff were extremely polite. There was a small group waiting to order at the time, and they brought my coffee out to me instead of calling out my name to go to the counter. They told me it would take a couple of minutes, and it was pretty quick. The shop is located in a large strip mall with plenty of free parking. I visited around 9:45am on a Friday and there was a steady stream of people trickling in and out. There were two customers ahead of me, and a group of four and two others came in after. A unique and exceptionally great coffee shop for the true coffee lover! This coffee shop/roaster comes from Japan where there are a couple locations. You can purchase a coffee from their limited menu and/or purchase beans to take home. They have barrels of beans, probably around 18 choices, which are labeled as to where they come from and the tastes. You can choose your beans and also the level of roasting and they will roast them to order! It takes 15-20 minutes for the roast and you can have them grind them too if you don't want whole beans. One of the guys working can help advise you as to which beans you will probably like best as well as what level of roasting will suit you. I came late on a weekday morning and there seemed to be a constant flow of customers. They had a couple of coffees available (they change daily) as drip or pour-over as well as cafe au lait. I ordered a drip coffee - their Kobe blend - black. Usually I get foofy flavored lattes at coffee places but I wanted to really taste the COFFEE. And, wow, this coffee is incredible. I also had them roast some beans for me after chatting with the owner. I picked a coffee from Kenya and chose their "city roast" option (roast levels are best explained by the staff). I sat and enjoyed my coffee while my beans were roasted - they have several comfy chairs inside as well as a counter plus a large patio area. Truly a hidden gem for coffee aficionados.
