The café au lait was a perfect cup. Mameya is an experience from the moment you walk in, from the aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans to the unique layout of the shop. There's a lot of care put into the experience, and the service is excellent. Once you've been, it's hard not to find yourself making your way back again.
It's a rare thing, finding a place you know you're becoming a new regular at and this is one has entered that arena. I visited Japan late last year and it was the best travel experience of my life, so to have a little slice of it here in my little town of Laguna Niguel is so special. And it's open early enough for the Finance Girls! The word that comes to mind is authentic. The barrels of beans waiting to be roasted in the front, the minimal menu, the pour-over style coffee for every cup, the chic industrious decor, super friendly service from every barista. It's hard for me to want to make coffee at home when I can have this! Worth every penny. Can't wait to gift my loved ones with bags of their freshly roasted beans. Do not sleep on Maméya!
I live in the San Diego area and have gone down to Laguna Nigel area specifically to get a bag of beans from Mameya! Their coffee beans are roasted to order, and there are so many options to choose from. I like to get the Espresso Blend, full city roast for my at home espresso machine. Waiting is key! If you can, I would wait 7 days before opening and using so the beans can properly de-gas and taste their best. Their hot and iced coffee selection is also amazing, always strong and balanced. If you're a true coffee lover, this place is for you!
Mameya in Japanese means beans shop, derived from mame that means beans/peas and ya that means store.. I read that this is owned by a Japanese couple who has extensive knowledge and love for coffee. Tucked in a corner within a small shopping plaza by a Japanese bakery, Mameya is a micro roaster that offering coffee enthusiasts and connoisseurs an opportunity to select over a dozen raw single origin and blend beans. Excellence in every Roast. at Mameya, there is precisely. And passion to every bean. Service is great. The employees are very knowledgeable and friendly if you have any questions or inexperienced. The ambiance is intimate and rather small. There isn't a lot of space where you can sit or stand. Pros: I ordered their pour over common blend and it was solid. I also grabbed a 12oz bag of their Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Natural. It took about 20 minutes for them to complete the roasting process. After 4 days, I grinned the beans for a pour over and could tell this was already going to be a decent cup of joe. I did not see any significant bloom but the draw time was great based on my grind size. Cons: This shop is too far and too small so if there is a line and you don't have time, you might have to skip the experience. While I don't anticipate Mameya expanding, I would come back in a while.
I really think this place is so cute clean and I liked the raw vegan treat they had available. The only thing I was bummed about is they didn't have dark roast in organic. The service was great though.
Fresh ground to order coffee at this hidden spot in So Cal. Not much space indoors to sit and work but very good service with kind people. Highly recommend!
I've started dabbling in the art of coffee making with my own espresso machine. One of the most important things I've learned is that procuring the best beans is more than half the battle. While researching roasters in the south OC area, I found Mameya in Laguna Niguel. I instantly feel in love with their concept of "blending Japanese tradition and innovation to create a coffee experience that transcends the ordinary." They specialize in offering beans from all over the world and roast them to your personal preference. Being able to pick your beans and roast level is simply amazing. This allows the fresh taste and small batches for experimenting. The quality is so remarkable and their online ordering system is great for timing each new batch for ease of pickup. If you are looking for a new coffee experience that specializes in quality coffee for rememberable consumption, Mameya has you covered!
Friendly service and super knowledgeable staff who offered great recommendations on both of my visits. I am by no means a coffee connoisseur, but I really enjoyed the coffee. It was smooth and delicate, and clearly made with care. The café itself felt like a mini coffee museum and very educational, which made the experience even more unique. There is some seating available inside if you want to sit and enjoy your coffee.
Very nice staff and the concept is very unique. They can roast your beans to whatever wide degree they have available and it takes only a few minutes . My very picky brother considers their freshly roasted beans excellent and he's hard to please in the espresso game. There's some indoor and outdoor seating and it's very cozy and smells amazing. Definitely recommend for any coffee lovers.

I usually do not drink coffee without cream and sugar, but this one did not need anything added. The flavor was clean, bright, and incredibly smooth, and you could really taste the quality of the beans. What stood out the most was the attention to detail and the dedication to quality from the staff. You can tell they truly care about their craft, from the precision in the pour over process to the way they talk about the coffee. It made the whole experience feel intentional and elevated. On top of that, it is a great place to study. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, making it easy to focus while enjoying an excellent cup of coffee. I am definitely coming back to try more of their offerings.
Swung by for a simple cup of coffee. Didn't realize I stumbled upon care in its purest form. Palm trees, open air, and plenty of courtyard seating, tucked into a calm neighborhood center. Quiet concentration behind the counter, steady hands, and no wasted movement. A solid lineup of roasted beans ready to take home. This is my kind of place. The pour over I had was smooth with a light, even sheen and no oil slick. A deep brown color that points to good extraction and fresh beans. Exactly how it should be. Precision, start to finish. I will be back for some of those beans.

The weather was beautiful, so we sat at the tables outside, but be aware that there's not a lot of indoor seating/outlets so it's not ideal for studying. Baristas were very kind and happy to answer questions, and the drink came out in less than 5min. It's right next to Okayama Kobo too so you can always pair to two together for a lovely snack/drink. I tried the iced cafe au lait with 2% milk and sugar free vanilla syrup. The drink was gentle, not too sweet, and the coffee itself was incredibly quality. Robust, low acidity, no sour aftertaste. I didn't catch the specific bean they used, sadly. You can also buy coffee beans here if you're an afficionado!
ove this cute little coffee shop next to Okayama Kubo Bakery! Last Sunday, a few friends and I came here to catch up and work on some things together. The shop is small but super aesthetic and cozy. What really caught our attention was their wide selection of coffee beans -- so many varieties to choose from! This time, we decided to skip buying beans and just enjoy the drinks instead. We ordered café au lait with whole milk and another with almond milk -- both were absolutely delicious. One of our friends was hoping for an espresso, but unfortunately, they don't serve it here. Still, it wasn't a dealbreaker -- we had a great time sipping our coffee and chatting the morning away. There's plenty of outdoor seating, though indoor space is limited. The parking lot was pretty full on Sunday morning, probably because of the gym in the same plaza. Overall, I had such a fun time and wouldn't mind driving from Irvine again to try more of their drinks -- and maybe grab some beans for my own machine next time!

Best whole beans in town! Earlier this year, we treated ourselves to an espresso machine and have been enjoying freshly ground coffee every morning thanks to Mameya. We searched high and low for a local spot to get fresh whole beans. Our friends recommended Mameya. Even though they're about a 20 minute drive for us, they are so worth it. We call in our order ahead of time for pickup. By the time we get there, our beans are freshly roasted and ready to go. Every employee we've met so far has been so welcoming and kind. Superb customer service. It's a small shop and not too many seats to sit and hang out, but if you're serious about GOOD and fresh coffee beans, this is where to get it. After trying a few different roasts and beans, we have settled on a favorite: 16 oz Espresso Blend in City Roast. Mameya also provides coffee to Brio Brio Cafe in Lake Forest. One of these days, we want to swing in to grab a bag of their specialty beans to try. Mameya also can ship if you're not local. read more

Wonderful craft coffee house in South County. Mameya Coffee Roasters is a Japan based coffee chain that is starting to spread to California. They focus on single origin coffees from all different coffee powerhouse regions. Their preps are simple... Pour Over, Auto Drip, Cafe au Lait. You can get things hot or iced. You can also add a flavored syrup to your drink for an extra $.50, but they do not do any crazy themed flavor drinks. They just let the coffee shine because they carry very good roasts. I tried their Cold Brew and their Iced Cafe au Lait. Both were stellar. On the cold brew the bean profile really comes out. With the Cafe au Lait it's just enough milk while still letting the coffee nuances to poke out. If you order a hot drink you have many more bean choices. They also sell bags of beans that you can take with you. They do not have crazy lines here, but they have a steady flow of customers from the times I've visited. Stop by for some great coffee if you are in the area, there aren't many better coffee houses around the city! read more

My sister and brother-in-law recommended this coffee roaster to me and I'm so glad that they did! Whenever I'm in Orange County, I do my best to squeeze in some time to visit Mameya! Not only do they have a great selection of coffee beans, but they provide great service and quality coffee too! I tend to be pretty indecisive and want to choose the "best" beans for my tastebuds and the staff here is super helpful so you can make the best choice for your preferences. If you do plan on getting beans roasted it does take around 15-20 minutes depending on how many bags you ordered and how many others may have requested roasted beans as well! Already can't wait for my next visit. read more
"Kobe-style Coffee Roaster in a Socal Plaza" Visited this coffee roaster on a recc from a friend and was pleasantly surprised by the Japanese-style aesthetic. The shop really reminds you of a lot of new age coffee roasters that are popular in Tokyo and Kyoto. They have a simple menu of pour over, drip, or cold brew. No espresso drinks but it worked out for me because my go to is usually a pour over. I got the Panama washed pour over which had a bright, nutty profile. It had a zingy tartness to start, followed with a honeyed sweetness and toasty finish. But I think what really stands out about this place is their roasting service. They have around 30 different beans to choose from along with 7 roast levels, and they will roast a bag of beans fresh for you. There is a good spread of regions, processing, and prices that you can choose from along with what size bag you want to buy. I picked up a 12oz washed colombia supremo bag and had it as a medium roast. Overall I'd say this place is a great spot if you're looking for a nice Japanese-style roaster. They have a small coffee menu and a bit of seating but it seems like people mostly come to pick up bean orders. read more
Saw this place on social media and finally got around to stopping by. It's a cute little coffee shop with a lot of choices for coffee beans. The staff were very nice and helpful. I ordered a cafe au lait with oat milk and hazelnut syrup and it was super hot and tasted yummy. They don't charge extra for an alternative milk. This was one of the best coffees I've had from a coffee shop. I wish that they also had espresso drinks, though. I also ordered an 8-oz bag of the espresso blend beans. I've never been to a place where they roast the beans right then and there for you so it was a new experience for me. They allow you to choose the acidity/roast level of the beans, which was cool. They recommended the full city for the espresso blend. It took about 20 mins for them to roast the beans and they recommend waiting a few days for the beans to degas before using for espresso. I waited about 5 days before I used it. The espresso shot I pulled was very clean and the texture was very smooth. Definitely one of the best espresso I've ever made. Professional Coffee Roaster If you would like to explore more single origin coffee beans, pick your own beans, and ask question about the way it roasted here is the right place to go to I have seen multiple original coffee beans sold in the store or so called roasters. However, this is the only roaster roasts your order professionaly and RIGHT in front of you. Not only would they tell you every detail of the beans, they also show you how they handle the beans. In the end, they will provide suggestion of amount and storage. If you breaks down by the weight, I think it is very cost worthy! You drink the most fresh coffee bean! read more

The coffee and service are excellent! I ordered the Cafe Au Lait and it was delicious The coffee is simple, clean, and has a nice roast to it. I really appreciate the craft and care they have for the coffee. The coffee beans are small batch. Plenty of parking. Clean interior. Simple menu. Great service. Us LA people don't hear much about the South OC vibe for coffee much especially past Irvine. Mameya is a dimond in the rough. We were headed to SJC and we wanted to check out a coffee roaster I search on Yelp that appeared to be a hidden gem in hella way south OC. Mameya is a Japanese coffee roaster that's been around since 1995. It's rare you'll find a coffee roaster like Mameya that has green coffee beans and roast coffee for you on the spot. There are a few place in LA but I've yet to visit. There's about 20 or so barrels of different green coffee beans to choose from. All from different countries, different coffee bean varieties, and different processing methods. If you're a coffee nerd like myself, you'll appreicate Mameya. The process of coffee is definitely more a science and craft if you've studied it. Choose your green coffee beans by the weight with the 1/2 lb minimum and you can request to roast your coffee in any of the 8 different ways. Japanese and American roast are very different. Italian roast from what I understand is one of the darkest roast specifically for espresso. I took home a Nicaraguan Geisha coffee anaerobic washed (processed in yeast and fermented for a few days) and requested for a light roast. I prefer drip coffee and light roast so I can taste the notes. Very good coffee. The best I've had? No, had better but very very good quality. Fun experience with a great selection of single origin coffees to choose from. A must visit if you're passing Laguna Hills. read more
The aroma, the authentic hospitality, the rich and untamed taste will be very hard to find after you try this place. I have family and friends drive 8 hours for this coffee. The concept behind Mameya Coffee Roasters is awesome, and the outstanding quality is made even more compelling with very reasonable pricing on their menu. I'm not much of a caffeine person myself and my favorite among their decaf varieties is the sugarcane process Colombian coffee - it's a better flavor for a coffee for me. They sell Brio Brio's awesome mini brownies here, which are super moist and only $3.50! The people here are the best and they all speak Japanese, which makes me feel like I'm in Japan or at least reconnecting with it, which I'd like to do more often. They are also right next door to Okayama Kobo, which is spectacular. The vibe is orderly yet causal and there's a real air of true dedication and professionalism that makes Mameya a memorable cafe!! read more
I'm normally just an espresso girlie but have been wanting to try this place forever. The person who helped me recommended a pour over when I asked for something hot/without milk. Holy cow, I initially planned on just grabbing my coffee to continue driving but after smelling the coffee, I needed to sit down and just enjoy it while it was still piping hot. I got the memeya blend and it was so smooth, so warming. I'm so excited to come back to try other blends. read more

Staff were friendly helpful and obviously skilled at roasting. My son said his coffee was good but we're both disappointed that there were no espresso options for trying the beans. I never had a reason to come out to this area but this place drew me in. I bookmarked this place after seeing Timmy S's review. This place is great for coffee purists. It doesn't have any fancy latte drinks. It just offers pour over and cold brew with option to add some milk if you like. You can also purchase whole beans. It has over 30 different beans to choose from and they will roast everything to order. There are eight different roast levels ranging from light to very dark. I normally prefer dark roast but the ones here are much darker than I expected. On my first visit I got Nicaragua Honey Process beans at full city roast level (3rd darkest roast level) and it was too bitter for me. On my second visit I got Columbia Supremo at city roast and it was just right for me. I can probably go one level lighter at high roast. Service was very professional and polite. My only suggestion for this place is to use resealable bags for its beans. There's limited seating inside but there are plenty of tables & chairs outside. read more

Mameya Coffee Roasters specializes in roasted beans and offers a limited menu that focuses on the coffee: pour over, drip, cafe au lait, and cold brew. The coffee speaks for itself, and they keep it simple with a small selection of milk and syrup options. I ordered a 12 oz. cafe au lait with whole milk for $4. I usually add a little bit of sugar to my coffee to balance out bitterness, but there is no bitterness here and thus no sugar needed! The cafe au lait was delicious. A really lovely, strong coffee, and the milk balanced it out perfectly. They offer a variety of milk options: whole, oat, almond, coconut, and half & half. The syrups included sugar cane, vanilla and hazelnut. I thought the value was excellent - $4 for a 12 oz. cup of high-quality, freshly roasted coffee. They also offer a 16 oz. It's a small, clean and organized shop with limited seating. They roast beans in the shop and it smells amazing. Different blends are showcased in massive canisters in front of the counter for customers to peruse. There are some tables outside for the building. Orders are taken at the counter. The staff were extremely polite. There was a small group waiting to order at the time, and they brought my coffee out to me instead of calling out my name to go to the counter. They told me it would take a couple of minutes, and it was pretty quick. The shop is located in a large strip mall with plenty of free parking. I visited around 9:45am on a Friday and there was a steady stream of people trickling in and out. There were two customers ahead of me, and a group of four and two others came in after. One person was seated with a laptop. It did not feel crowded or noisy while I was there. I will definitely be back! read more
Mameya is such a neat, authentic, coffee forward shop in OC direct from Japan. If you're looking for a freshly roasted cup of coffee that is made to perfection via pour over then look no further. The beans and roasting process speaks for itself. Creamer is unnecessary and the coffee is enjoyable just as it is. My husband and I picked up 2 bags of their beans which were roasted in house while we sipped our cups of black coffee on the patio. The service was what you'd expect in Japan. They take pride in their shop, ingredients, and it comes through in their service. I loved seeing a few regulars come in and hang out on the patio next to us. Mameya is truly one of a kind. read more

As a coffee novice they really helped me pick out the right beans for my brother and it turned out to make some really tasty espressos. I also got a cold brew latte there which was pretty solid. I don't think so as they roast beans to order. You could use a reusable K-Cup coffee filter, but if you go to that much trouble, it may be a better idea to go with a Hario V60 and do pour over. It will taste much better.
