My husband and I had tried this place a few years ago when it first opened and we weren't super impressed with it back then. Since then though we've heard a few people say positive things about it so...we decided it was time to give it another try. Came here as a group of 5, and it was a last minute decision as we had originally planned to eat elsewhere but that place turned out to be closed on Sundays. With no reservation on a Sunday, we were asked to wait about 10 minutes. Not too bad of a wait, compared with another Vietnamese place that we'd driven by earlier which had a lineup out the door. A couple of people in our group had fried eggs on their dishes. The eggs looked good. Soft yolks and soft yolk is what I like to see. There was a Papaya salad that we shared amongst the table. This was OK for me. Wasn't thrilled with it. I ordered the Lemongrass Tofu on Vermicelli. I love that this restaurant gives the option of having it on Vermicelli. I'd been somewhere else earlier this year which also had Lemongrass Tofu but it was only served on rice, with no option of switching to Vermicelli. The Lemongrass flavor was strong. Very flavorful. Something in the dish though was quite spicy. It seemed a lot of other dishes on the table were also quite spicy. Hubby's Bun Bo Hue was extremely spicy but he still enjoyed the dish very much. My daughter and I both ordered the Sober Sunday drink which had Lychee, Kumquat and Lemon Juice. The drink was OK. Nothing to write home about. Our daughter just ordered the Tapioca Dumplings appetizer and then took bits and pieces from other people's orders. A spring roll and a couple pieces of Lemongrass Tofu from me, some beef and noodle from her dad...etc. The dumplings looked tasty. They looked like something I'd have ordered myself if I were still a meat eater. Overall, the food here is flavorful. It was a much better experience this time than the first time we came here. Personally though, I'd prefer them to tone down the spice or even eliminate the spice altogether. I've been seeing this place on instagram for awhile now so we decided to meet up at this place with some friends. We ordered the prawns with salted egg yolks. But the prawns were overcooked the salted egg yolks taste was barely there. And there were only 6 pieces of the shrimp. We also ordered the special crab soup. This dish was just ok for me. The soup was not as flavorful as what I was expecting. Finally we also ordered the Banh Hoi Platter. This was not bad it was filling for 2 people to share. I'd seen B&D Authentic Viet Cuisine on my feed for a while and recently got to try it out ‍ We shared a house special beef pho and the spring rolls which came with lettuce (~$26 for entree and appetizer). The pho noodles were more on the flat thicker side compared to other pho places but the broth was quite light and savoury. The spring rolls were pretty bite size and standard I'd say! I came here on a Saturday night and it was totally packed! Unfortunately we did not have a reservation so the wait was around 45 min. We did the $39 bite of Burnaby deal which actually was great value for the items we got. The beef carpaccio is probably one of the best I've had in the lower mainland. The soft shell crab soup was really tasty too. We also had to try the coconut rice cakes (not part of the deal). The prawns in it were super juicy and went perfect with the crunchy rice shells. Overall the food was great and I would come back for sure. I think the one thing that will definitely be bringing me back is the avocado icecream. Haven't been here in a while. We made a reservation for the 5 of us at 5:30 pm on a Sunday and the place was pretty packed. They changed their plates and bowls to have chicken on it. Their pho broth has a deeper flavor than before. All their dishes are really good. I love them beef carpaccio and platter the most. The beef carpaccio topped with fried garlic and onion and pickled onion topped with a their sauce. It's slight tangy and refreshing. They use a flat noodle for the pho broth and portion is generous. We also tried summer pomelo salad. It is refreshing but I like it without the sauce. The wait for their food wasn't too long and the price is quite affordable. I am impressed with the food here. I ordered the grilled pork vermicelli. The grilled pork vermicelli came with three spring rolls, three pork skewers and greens on vermicelli. I asked for extra fish sauce. The dish was solid and delicious. I did find the green somewhat spicy. There was something in it that made it spicy but it was not all the green that was spicy. It was probably a chili flake here or there. We were a large group (16 people) and the restaurant asked up to have our order ready. I was quite impress on how fast the food came based on how big of a group we were and on top, the food came almost at the same time. Our server had all our orders correct and when the food came out she knew exactly who ordered. There are free parking behind the restaurant. There were about 5 spots or so behind. Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis, with additional parking available on the side street. If you park on Kingsway, its not free. I definitely will be back. A unique Vietnamese restaurant serving less commonly seen dishes. Always game to try something different, we gave this a shot. Definitely an enjoyable and interesting experience. The beef carpaccio had good texture and flavours. The dressing is more on a sweeter side. While I prefer a bit more tangy taste, it is still pleasant. The fried frog legs are quite a special dish. Fried nicely and the dipping sauce is spicy and salivating. They do not taste like chicken at all. I wish they season the protein more because it can be a bit "gamey". Presentation wise, splitting the legs into halves will make it look more pleasing to the eye. Crab soup noodles is hot and wholesome. I love the chewy thick translucent noodles to go with these seafood broths. However, the fried soft shelled crab is better off, not piled on top as it becomes soggy too quickly, making it not an enjoyable experience. Mmm delicious Vietnamese food right on the borders of metro town & the high gate neighborhood! I've heard loads about b&d's crab soup with tapioca noodles and this was the exact dish I came for! Surprisingly stumbled in on the last few days of the bites of burnaby event and lucky for me - the crab noodle soup was on the menu. For $38 you get a full sized appetizer dish, small cost up for the carpaccio but I was happy enough with the deep fried frog legs. An entree of choice - crab soup of course! A dessert and a drink. I loved the sweet flavours of the crab soup, it was thick with nice punches of a garlic-y undertone, complemented with a very slurp worthy portion of tapioca clear noodles. I personally would come back for this noodle dish alone! Both the deep fried frog logs and carpaccio was delicious. I was feeling quite adventurous as I've never had frog legs before - it's a nice and dense meat type, tender and tastes like chicken! The flavours were more on the mellow side which resulted to us checking in with the server to confirm if the sauce was a dip that was missing haha! Came here for Bite of Burnaby (3 course menu at a fixed price). B&D also include a free drink as well! For $38 dollars, it's a bang for your buck. The food portions were really big and delicious. I loved the appetizers but the table mains were a bit of a miss (flavour wise). Besides that, I highly recommend trying this place out while the event is happening. Service was friendly even though our corner table felt a little neglected. My food came a bit later than everyone else's but they made sure to double check it was on the way. During our stay, I did not feel rushed or pressured to eat quickly. It was a great place to sit and catch up. The ambiance of the restaurant is cute. I love the bright walls and soft atmosphere. On to the lemongrass pork sausage, it looks really good...but it was raw inside. We told the server and he gave us another betel beef skewer and a sliced pork skewer. At that point I was pretty grossed out and worried about getting sick since it was raw ground pork. But to be fair their special pho was good and the BBH was okay. Their BBH is on the spicier side which is not my preference, although the flavor is decent. Meter parking up front - easy to locate - pretty spacious and comfortable environment. Service team was very friendly and was able to answer most of your questions. I found the menu small, however i assumed they probably specialized themselves with what was offered. Had the traditional ice coffee which I would say was the best part - coffee was strong / condensed milk ratio was just enough so sweeten it up without taking away from the essence of the coffee! Spring rolls seemed more like egg rolls and the meat was skewered for the vermicelli bowl - I think they could of went the extra step of removing the stick - since i believe most people mix up the bowl before indulging? Review for our visit in December 2023. I took notes and am just getting around to posting now. RESERVATIONS On Boxing Day, we made 6:30pm reservations for 8 people with about an hour's notice. This was the only place that could accommodate an early dinner for us after calling several restaurants in Burnaby. It wasn't too busy but by the time we left around 8pm there was a small wait. THE COST About $150 for 6 entrees and a couple appetizers. THE SERVICE Very attentive and helpful. We asked if we could order a side of plain noodles for our toddlers, and they made the B&D Special Pho without any meat, for a reduced price ($11 instead of $16), and kept letting us know they can always give us more noodles if needed. FAMILY-FRIENDLY? Yes, very family friendly. They immediately brought out silicone bowls, cups, straws, and toddler flatware for the kids. I just wish they had a kid's menu, but the accommodation they made with their regular pho was helpful. Had a great business lunch here at the recommendation of my sister who lives (somewhat) in the area. Great value and ambience for the price - for when you want delicious, authentic food created with care and pride! A colleague and I shared a papaya salad; I had the betel beef vermicelli and they had the lemongrass chicken on rice. Also added a Vietnamese coffee on ice. I was very pleased with the size of the dishes and I could eat that papaya salad for days! This spot, originally was my friend's pitch for lunch. I was hesitant, because I wasn't particularly feeling like pho, but boy was I a happy camper afterwards. Its location wasn't the best for parking, as it doesn't have its own, but street parking will be your best friend. As soon as we entered, a warm smile on a server pointed us to a seat near the window. After browsing the menu, the descriptions of the menu items were the first to take root in my interest. I went with the B&D Special pho, which had a choice of regular or fatty broth. You could also choose to add a stick of bone marrow, but I chose without. I was met with a very confident taste in savory beef, decorated with pepper all around. The veges were bright, crunchy, and fresh, and the beef was tender, giving off a satisfying aroma, better than most of the other places I've been to. I thought about putting some sriracha to top it off, but after the first taste, I knew it was worth tasting the entire bowl by itself. The flavors really were on point, and the descriptions were valid with flying colors. My friend also seemed delighted with his option of Beef Stew. I'd say that was one of the most fulfilling pho experiences I've had in a long time. I would recommend this to anyone that's craving a nice hot bowl of pho noodle soup during cold weather. I came here for lunch on December 27. Since I wasn't sure if the restaurant would be open or not, and there is no indication on the restaurant's website/social media on the holiday hours, I made a reservation via the website. I am very satisfied with the ease of making a reservation, I got a text confirmation within a couple hours. I came here with 3 seniors. Since I did not want to be interrupting the meal by taking photos of everyone's food, I discreetly took only a photo of my own food. I ordered the Grilled Pork Vermicelli because it came with 3 pieces of spring rolls that I can share with others. The meat was marinaded tastily and the vermicelli was also cooked to the right softness. The portion size was just right and I felt I got enough value for the money. I did not personally taste the other dishes, but the rest of my party were all happy with the food. The service was excellent. The server always came to us with a sweet smile and she checked to make sure that the food was okay and refilled our tea. One thing to note is that street parking at the front is pay parking, but there is free parking at the back. Have drove passed this place so many times and finally came with some friends. It is the old Queen's Cafe, in the corner. We ordered a bunch of items to share. We got the Da lac beef hot pot, Banh Hoi platter, B&D special pho, braised duck noodles, papaya salad, crunchy wings, skewers and some more spring rolls. The actual hotpot bowl is smaller than we thought but you get another plate with veggies, tofu, taro, bean curd, etc. The pot already has beef balls, beef tendon, red dates, lemongrass, beef flank so the soup is very rich. They refill with more soup as you go. The braised duck noodles was really good. The duck is still juicy and the soup has a nice subtle taste of the duck flavor with a hint of the coconut broth. The platter has betel beef, spring rolls, pork skewers, prawn skewer, pork sausage skewers, 5 individual rice vermicelli layers, lettuce and Viet herbs. I liked the betel beef and spring rolls. I didn't have the pork sausage so not sure how it is. My friend said it was good so next time, I'll get that. The B&D pho was good. You can get either regular or extra-fatty broth. We got the regular broth. It wasn't too salty, was light but still had a nice beef taste. The meat was tender and there was a good amount of it in the bowl. For dessert, we got the cassava cake, coffee ice cream and pandan ice cream. They have their own ice cream machine. The coffee one was really good. It reminded me of either viet coffee or like a chocolate covered coffee bean. The cassava cake wasn't too sweet, moist and was a good size. We ordered: *Coconut Rice Cake $16: interesting flavor and cute presentation. It's worth trying but not epic. *Mini B&D Spring Roll $7: 5 tiny pieces but for $7, it's fair. I always prefer Vietnamese spring rolls wrapped in rice paper rather than wonton wrapper. It tasted a bit off, doesn't have the aroma of spring rolls. For this, I'd give it 2/5. *Crunchy Wings/Chili Fish Sauce flavour $14: it's a good appy, love the flavour but could be stronger. *Grilled Pork Chop on Rice $16.50: very tender and satisfying good old grilled pork chop! *Tomato Crab Soup $30: it's a summer special. Ingredients include crab meatballs, thin slices of pork hock, tofu, tomatoes and a lobster tail. Soup flavour is a bit weak for me, doesn't exude the flavours of the sea. Neither is the tomato flavour. Lobster is cooked right crunchy though. Overall, this resto serves a modern take on Vietnamese cuisine but is a bit lacking on the flavours. Their dishes taste pretty healthy and I love that their broths are all simmered for several hours. For all their noodle dishes you can add extra noodles for $2. More like a 3.5-3.8 stars. They don't take reservation before 8pm and not for party less than 4, which seems like a weird policy. Server suggested me to call 30 minutes before to be put on a waitlist, so I did. I arrived at 7pm and was seated promptly. They have the Bites of Burnaby available, I ordered the papaya salad, soft shell crab soup noodle, mango panna cotta & and salted plum soda. For $35, that's quite a lot of food! The papaya salad tastes just as expected, quite a generous portion. The soft shell crab soup is quite thick, not like a pho broth. It's more like stew. The tapioca noodles are softer than expected. The soft shell crab itself has good flavour, but the soup and noodles lack depth and dynamics in flavour. Mango panna cotta is quite nice, but the salt plum soda is too salty. Service is quite attentive and price is reasonable. I'll likely go again to try other dishes, hopefully other signature dishes are more impressive. But with Hoang Yen opening a Burnaby location, it's a very tough competition. read more

Finally made it out to try B&D Authentic Viet Cuisine. It's a family run Vietnamese spot (husband runs the front, wife is the chef) next door to Anatolia's Gate Restaurant. The inside is modern, bright and spacious. Service was friendly but slow. Had to wave them down to replenish our hot pot broth and refill tea pots. The menu is split into appetizers, noodles, rice & vermicelli, share dishes, vegetarian and sweet dishes. Trip #1 - Lau bo da lot ($27.00) - good for 2 people. Broth was flavourful. The tofu sauce was unique. Good portion of meat and vegetables. Favourite was the dried tofu skin. Egg noodles were okay but nothing special. Least favourite thing was the taro, very starchy. - Banh hoi thit nuong cha gio ($23.00) - all the meat skewers were great. Mini spring rolls were small but crispy. Betel beef were also small but tasty. Best of the skewers was the lemongrass pork sausage. Wrapped around a piece of lemongrass, which really enhanced the flavours. - Herbs - small portion. - Bun bo hue ($15.00) - broth was clean with good depth. A touch of heat. I've had my share of BBH's in town and this one was solid. - Banh khoai mi ($7.00) - cassava cake took some time to come out but it was hot and steamy. Not too sweet and real shredded coconut. Trip #2 - Banh khọt ($15.00) - nice to try but pricey. - Braised duck noodles ($20.00) - broth was interesting, nice flavours but in a different, unexpected way. Well balanced and not too herbaceous. The shitake mushrooms were plump. Duck leg had a good amount of meat on it. Worth a try if you want to eat something new. - Com ga xoi mo ($17.00) - decent but I wouldn't order this over any of their noodles options. - Bun bo hue ($15.00) - a touch spicier than our first visit. I especially loved the special crab soup (comes with a fried soft shell crab). The lemongrass chicken was also seasoned well and is not overly salted. Solid Pho place near Edmonds. Parking is available on the side streets. The venue is very clean looking and modern. Staff were friendly and helpful. No complaints. Spring rolls - mini finger sized ones. I think there were 5 in total. Skin is the crispy type as opposed to fluffy. B&D special pho - bit of everything. Sirloin, flank, trip, tendon, and beef balls. Soup was clear. There are 2 options - regular and fatty. Everything was nice and light. Served with long sticks of green onion, as well as plenty some cilantro. I liked the food here quite a bit. B&D Authentic Viet Cuisine is a newly opened restaurant on Kingsway! They offer a wide array of traditional dishes with a modern twist Prawn Coconut Rice Cake (15) B&D Special Fried Chicken Rice (17) Braised Duck Noodle Soup (20) Salted Plum Soda (5.5) Guava Soda (5.5) Cassava Cake (7) I really enjoyed the Prawn Coconut Rice Cakes as you get to make your own wrap with the lettuce and dip it in fish sauce. I do wish there was more of a savoury coconut moment which may further elevate this dish! Next, the Special Fried Chicken Rice was pretty standard. I liked the addition of pickled greens which kept the dish interesting. The chicken was crispy and tender I also tried the Braised Duck Noodle Soup, which is braised daily for 6 hours! The broth was more herbal which may take an acquired taste to fully enjoy, but it was definitely unique. The duck was super soft and juicy. This is definitely a dish you won't find that often at Vietnamese restaurants Lastly the Cassava Cake was the perfect way to end off the meal! It is incredibly filling though so leave some room for this one! Overall would come back to try their other items! read more

Did not live up to the hype .. what a pity! Food .. ordered BBH & Grilled Pork Vermicelli to try out .. - BBH .. broth was luke warm, flavour was one dimensional .. just salty and no umami at all .. and above all no fragrance from the herbs that is "authentic" to the famous Bun Bo Hue!! ( No herbs or vegetables were included e.g : thinly sliced banana blossom, red cabbage, mint, perilla etc. ) Disappointed as they say its made daily in limited quantity!! - Grilled Pork Vermicelli .. Unable to review as it did not show up after more than 30mins. Already made allowance for their recent opening, purposely went there during off peak hours and the place was not busy at all and there were about 3 or 4 wait staffs on the floor plus the "manager / owner". I have to give credit to the staff that served us as she did check with us after she saw me finishing my BBH but my dining partner was still without food!! The lack of checking in after food was delivered resulted in order not showing up...anyways, the food quality itself will not bring me back! Best wishes to the proprietor!! read more

This is an updated review after a second visit. I think they still have cozy ambiance and excellent service but I find the broth more flavorful at other Pho competitors and unfortunately, they didn't win me over on the second visit. Pho was just "meh" tasting but they still earned 4.5 stars for good service. Too bad, food quality wasn't the most consistent. Street parking can be hit or miss so budget time for parking as well. read more

admittedly i've been to b&d authentic viet cuisine a few times and have not been impressed. when it first opened, i was excited to see it all over social media with insane wait times and line ups. i want to love this place, as it's location is convenient to my parent's place, they take resos, accept credit cards, and have vegan options available on their menu. the first time i had the pho, it was just okay, nothing special. another time i ordered their chicken and rice dish and some of the rice wasn't even cooked properly, and another time i had their special duck with noodle in soup and it was too salty, my dad complained that the soup was not hot enough. the owners are friendly and engaging and dat even went out of his way to run to save on foods to buy oat milk to accommodate a vegan palate. the layout of the restaurant doesn't allow for the servers to see every table, making this difficult for some patrons to try and get their attention. on our most recent visit, we were a party of ten on a tuesday evening and our orders seemed to be staggered. most everyone seemed to enjoy their meals, and the dishes photograph well. read more
