You'd never find it if you didn't know it was there, but maybe it's better that way because it remains a magical secret place with incredibly good Former USSR countries' dishes. It's in an industrial park, and the place has a tiny pastry area in the bottom and an upper dining room. You order in the cafe area, and the food is sent up via number system and dumb waiter (SO cool). Service was one person and two cooks, so it's not immediate, but it's all made fresh and you can taste it. My Russian friend advised me on what to get, so we went with Khinkali and Khachapuri (sans meat). We also got what is on the menu as "jingle bread" and a beef kabob wrap. I had to get some kvass and pickles, too. I would get the dumplings, wrap, and kvass again in a second. Not that everything wasn't delicious, but my stomach is only so big and I need to try everything else on the menu. Khinkali is effectively a gigantic soup dumpling (HIGHLY recommend, but don't eat the stem!), and the meat in the beef kabob was similarly spiced. I fell in love with the lavash bread - it wasn't like anything I'd ever had. It was light, flaky, and I didn't feel overloaded with bread eating it like I do with most wraps. Kvass is slightly alcoholic, and it's technically a cereal based fermented drink, so it tastes a carby. It's a bit far for me to go with any regularity, but if I'm up around the airport, I will definitely keep it on my list of places to recommend and re-visit. read more

Located in some industrial-looking building complexes tucks in a fairly delicious, hidden gem, Armenian restaurant with a cool concept. Despite the remoteness of the place, parking can be very uncertain as there are only 2 spots dedicated to the restaurant so you risk your car if you likely need to park at other spots. Order at the front and if you dine in, then you go upstairs and wait for the food to come out of a food elevator from the first floor! Just plan some time as the food is made fresh to order, so on a non-busy day when we went, allot about 20 minutes. This is a fast casual spot so you get the food and bus the table on your own, and you help yourself with water, etc We got the beef lamajoun, pide basturma and sujuk mix, and 1 piece Khinkali jumbo dumplings. We also tried the Jazzve coffee which is super concentrated and strong, but you could request cream and sugar. Beef lamajoun - small thin crust dough with ground beef. The red pepper and sauce with the lemon slice adds a bit of a tangy hot sauce-like flavor to it, and the lamajoun is very thinly crusted so it has a bit of a crunch. Pide - we got the mix of basturma (cured beef) and sujuk (beef sausage) which is cool to try. The bread itself is stuffed with cheese, so this dish is very filling. Even without the meat, the pide is pretty salty, so adding the meat on top of that made it super salty. I had khachapuri (Georgian style) before that is pretty similar, but this one is much more filling. Khinkali dumpling - very huge! The top is a bit too doughy but it was still a little soft. There is a good amount of meat and there is also a lot of soup too. One is enough to try something new for variety, as I feel you would get diminishing returns ordering a set of 5 if this is your first time trying this place. I enjoyed the concept and how the food is made fresh to order. Some of the dishes could be less salty (and I have a decent level of tolerance to salt as I eat out very often), but otherwise, a fairly unique restaurant in Richmond! read more

I liked that the zhangyalov bread was mostly herbs and not dough; they did a great job using a thinner layer of bread. The grilled veggies were fresh, loved the eggplant, and the lavash hit the spot. It's hard to find legitimate lavash when traveling. And of course, no meal is complete without some coffee. The owners were amazing: kind, friendly, and hospitable and the venue relaxing. Ahhh I'm so glad I finally got to try this hidden gem in the industrial area in Richmond! This café is quite difficult to spot and unassuming but it packs the story of a wonderful Armenian family who cooks with their souls and provides heartwarming food for its patrons. As someone who eats East Asian food all the time, my goal for this upcoming year is to try more variety of food from different countries. My friend and I came by on a weekday for lunch and made a few choices based on the owner's recommendations. We picked the lamb soup and chicken thigh BBQ - the owner was kind in letting us know that the chicken was prepared to order and would take a little longer than usual. There is additional seating upstairs and the food arrives through a super cool elevator chute! I generally dislike lamb but to my surprise, the lamb soup was fragrant and hearty. My friend loved the soup and said it was the type that cures colds and is perfect for warming you up on a cold fall day. The soup was also packed with chickpeas, potatoes, and pieces of lamb. The chicken BBQ was a generous portion of well-seasoned chicken in the house-made lavash bread. I liked the pickled peppers and the tzatziki sauce. We came on a Saturday at 2pm and there were a few empty tables. We got a couple of items to share. The food took awhile to arrive by elevator. Be warned it can get quite hot upstairs. Our favourite was the pide cheese. It was the most visually appealing and also tasted the best. Loved the bread and the cheese combo. Doesn't get better than that. The other ones we tried all tasted similar to it. I would skip the beef wrap and the pizza and just stick with the pide cheese We also tried the napoleon and it isn't your standard puff pastry napoleon. Lamajoun is definitely a hidden gem in Richmond for Armenian food. It is perfect for a quick bite while biking the dyke. In nice weather I do take out and sit along the dyke to eat. Of course if you drive, there is plenty of parking right outside the restaurant. This was my first time dining in and I was surprised by how homey and convenient it was! You order downstairs, then are provided with a number to bring upstairs to the self- serve dining area. There are cups and a water station to pour hot/cold water, cart for finished dishes, single stall washroom, and plenty of tables which fit 2-8 people each. Interestingly, there is also a foozball table, some board games, and a pottery studio (they had some signage offering classes, and also sell their ceramics). When your food is ready, a speaker and sign state the order number and a window upstairs automatically open to grab your food from an elevator chute. It is super cool, even just dining in to see their contraption is worth it! All the food was fresh and flavourful. Despite using similar ingredients of beef and bread in all the items we ordered, each dish had a distinct flavour. The pide and the bread that accompanied the lamb soup were amazingly fluffy. The lamb soup itself was so hearty with a heavy lamb flavour. It was filled with chickpeas, potato, and a good amount of lamb. The kebab wrap can be ordered with a single or double kebab inside the wrap. I felt the single was a perfect ratio of filling:wrap. The cheburek filling tasted almost like a Chinese xiaolongbao because of how moist and umami it was. Very interesting and will become one of my new go-to menu items! Tl;dr truly a hidden gem This place is off the beaten path and my friends and I even wondered if we were at the right place. Fortunately we were and we ordered the chicken bbq with red pepper and dumplings. The food took around 15-20 minutes but it was because they were making everything fresh for us. I've never had Armenian food before and I was quite excited to try. The restaurant is located in a very industrial side of Richmond. Upon arriving, I was dismayed to discover how big of a jump in menu price there is from 8 months ago (Google pictures). I'm thinking they probably increased the prices after they became more popular, since the premise did get year's top 100 certificate. However, we still proceeded to order a variety of items. Jazzve coffee - Armenian coffee and boy it was only a tad bit bigger than an espresso and they charged $3.99. It essentially tasted like brew coffee with a bit of sugar. Nothing special and there was even coffee ground at the bottom of the cup which rendered the coffee undrinkable. Pide basturma - this one saw an increase from $11.99 to $16.99! It was delicious but totally not worth the price, in my opinion. It was basically bread, an egg, cheese and cured beef. Lamajoun pizza - their version of pizza with beef on top. In the menu, the pizza had a lot more toppings than reality. Jingle bread - this reminded me of spanakopita and it was delicious. The chicken thigh bbq - this one increased from $12.99 to $16.99. The chicken dish came with 5 pieces of meat, some veggies and a sprinkle of chopped parsley. We peeled off a bit of the lavash bread to wrap it around the chicken and some veggies, kinda like eating fajita. Don't forget their yogurt sauce which was amazing. Overall, it was delicious but not worth the 16.99 for what the dish came with. Dumpling - we ordered one just to try but I prefer the Chinese XLB better lol. I deducted 2 stars due to the price jump. Usually, we see vendors increasing prices bit by bit... I've never seen one where dishes increased by $4-5!! Excellent food, with a "rustic" parking lot setting in an industrial park... we ate the Pide and beef kebab wrap at a picnic table in the parking lot and took the jumbo dumplings, borscht and jingle bread home for dinner later that evening. I didn't know how to prepare the dumplings so found some instructions online and winged it. I reheated the jingle bread (reminded us of the stuffed "dim sum" type dishes from Northern China) in the toaster oven, and heated up the borscht on the stovetop. Gosh, I can't believe I have not reviewed this establishment yet! Lamajoun is not only an eatery to me, it's actually one of the places I visit to re-experience my childhood. This little gem boasts bold and beautiful Armeno-Georgian flavours. Personally, I love getting the frozen dumplings; you get a deal when purchasing in higher quantities. They've also got many, many vegetarian and vegan options-- my ultimate faves being the khachapuri (cheese stuffed bread) and zhingyalov hatz (flatbread with finely minced greens). As for non-veg items, the dumplings are always a must, as are the sarma/dolma. The staff makes the restaurant that much more amazing. They are absolutely fantastic and will literally treat you like family! They work hard to make sure the food is made perfect and with love and you can tell they take pride in their cooking. As you can tell, this place is very dear to me. I grew up in Rostov-on-Don and to this day I vividly remember the Nakhichevan Bazaar-- a marketplace which our family would religiously frequent for affordable produce/groceries. The marketplace was filled with food stands of various Armenian/Georgian/Azerbaijani snackies and this restaurant just reminds me of all the times I would go to Nakhichevan market with my mama and we would get khachapuri after a long day of grocery shopping. My first-ever experience with Armenian and Georgian food was at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant north of Toronto a few years ago, while visiting the big city. A few friends and I rolled the dice on that place, feeling fatigued with the usual options, and were pleasantly surprised by what we found there. It wouldn't have been something on the bucket list, as they say, but it did open my eyes to another world of flavours and dishes. Fast forward to 2024; I discover that we have an Armenian restaurant right in our own backyard, and not only that, almost everyone is raving about it. After waiting out their holiday closure, my partner and I ventured down to Richmond on a cold, sunny day to check the place out, and we were not disappointed. Tucked away in an unassuming industrial park near the Richmond IKEA, we came across a busy scene on our arrival, a group of people eating take-out wraps while leaning on their car, and a packed indoor seating area as the restaurant worked through their lunch rush. The process is novel; you place your order and pay downstairs at the counter and you're given a number, and then, after several minutes, the staff place your food on a tray or two, and send it up on a dumbwaiter. We had four items off the menu. A khinkali - sort of like an oversized soup dumpling with black pepper - which was delicious and brothy, nicely seasoned and piping hot. The "pide", which is also known as a khachapuri, was stuffed full of briny cheese and an egg, and the house hot sauce went really nicely with that and cut through the saltiness and richness. I had the shurpa, or lamb soup, which was hearty and well-seasoned, with lots of chickpeas, potatoes, and cilantro. My partner had the grilled chicken thighs and peppers, which were wrapped in lavash. Everything was very tasty and you get a solid understanding the uniqueness of the cuisine, and those hints of influences from neighbouring parts of Europe and Asia. There were really only two things that needed improving. The washroom needed a cleaning, and the ventilation upstairs is poor: as all the seating is above the kitchen, when they are cooking meat, the smoke off the grill goes vertical. The staff ended up running upstairs to open windows, which made the food cool down before we finished eating it. Prices are a bit on the high side given the location and the ambiance, but quality is good and service is warm and friendly, so, in that context, what you pay is not really offside with typical Vancouver cafe prices. If you happen to be by the area one day and hungry, give this place a try. I plan to come back a second time to sample some of the other menu items. read more

Finally got to try this page recently from a friend's suggestion. Verdict? It's amazing value, the service is friendly, and the food is delicious. What else do you need? My group tried the beef pide, cheese pide, beef lamajoun and medovik (honey cake). The bread in the pides were both pillowy soft like you would not believe. I wish bakeries would make bread like this, it was phenomenal. The cheese and beef fillings for everything were also very flavourful, and for the beef pide they were incredibly generous- see my picture with a cross section of the crust. As for the cake? upon the recommendation of my good buddy we went and tried this hole in the wall place by close to ikea. It is a fusion between Armenian and Russian cuisine. Place is a bit hard to find as it is tucked away in an industrial area, sandwiched between warehouses and car shops. Its also small and seats only a couple people inside but there were a few tables outside right on their parking space. Staff very friendly and inside feels like a street cafe kinda establishment. We were given a free sample Of their famous cured meats and it was very tasty. A bit on the salty side though, but i did like it. We ordered the bread boat with cured meats and an egg in the middle, the minced meat pie, and the soup and meat dumplings ( like xlb). The bread boat was something different as they baked it together with the meat and the egg, giving the egg a silky, smoky texture. It was howeverC a bit salty. But the pastry tasted like a soft pretzel. The minced meat pizza-like dish was good. The base was thin-crust and held the dish well. Lastly, the dumplings were served pipping hot and fresh out of the steamer. In my opinion, the skin was too thick and a bit chewy. The pork inside was juicy tho, and it held some broth spiced with cumin. Overall, it was quite an experience. Ive never had a Mix of armenian / russian food. Lamajoun is a hidden gem amongst the industrial buildings in Richmond. If it weren't for Yelp, I would never have heard of this place. I've been on a huge Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food kick and saw that Lamajoun specializes in Armenian cuisine, so my manfriend and I decided to pop in here to check them out. The parking situation is free and plentiful, given the nature of where this spot is located. The interior space is quite tiny. There are maximum two tables inside as well as a few scattered tables outside if it's nice out. They have a large menu behind the counter where you order. Once you order, you can sit and they'll bring your food out to you. They specialize in flatbreads and pides, so I decided to get the cheese pide and my manfriend got the beef pide. For those who don't know, a pide is a large dough boat stuffed with meats, sauces, cheese, and an egg. If you love bread and cheese, this is a must order for you. The pide was absolutely delicious; I thoroughly enjoyed every single savoury cheesy bite. We also got a baklava for dessert and it was perfect. For the size and quality of our dishes, it was very reasonably priced. The owners were very hands on - taking our order, dropping off the food to our table, and checking in to make sure we enjoyed our food. If this is the gold standard for Armenian food, I should pack my bags and move right away. Lamajoun prepares and bakes all of their food with the utmost care, and it really shines through. I got takeout this evening, and my belly is pleasantly full even as I write this several hours later. The lamajoun beef is simple but decadent - a thin, crispy flatbread with a wonderfully spiced ground beef mixture baked onto it. The jumbo beef kebab was delicious with a hearty flame-grilled skewer, a wonderfully chewy pita bread, and a perfect acidic onion and parsley salad/slaw to balance out the flavors. The chicken thigh BBQ was also incredible. There were sweet, plump roasted red peppers and juicy chicken thigh stuffed into the warm pita. Upon entering I thought one of the girls was an actress from the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch Netflix series. Ok back to the food. The food pics on yelp looked amazing but in person it is even better. If you enjoy foods with herbs and enjoy Mediterranean style food. I think. You'll love this. Hidden gem alert! I think someone needs compile a list of great industrial park spots and add Lamajoun to it. It takes a certain something to setup with no ambiance, in a place with no foot traffic evenings and weekends,.. and still attract a loyal following and Lamajoun has that. (I actually really love it when a business takes me somewhere I'd never otherwise go in the city). Super friendly service, and amazing flavours in what, for me, is an untapped food type that I want to explore more. Worst food I've ever eaten. The meat in the khinkali tasted sour and had too many spices.

This spot is kind of in the middle of an industrial complex, but the ratings were so high we knew we needed to try. We ordered take out so we could have a picnic at a park. The waitress took down my nut allergy with no problems. The wait time was quite long, with us waiting 30+ minutes (We were told 20 min. After we went in and asked, they brought it out right very soon after). However, everything was very fresh so it could have just been baking time. We sat outside in a nice area decorated with chalk drawings. They even gave us paper plates and cutlery to eat, which was perfect for the picnic! The khinkali dumplings are actually a soup dumpling, which was nice. I feel like eating them piping hot would be best. The pide basturma was a bit salty because of the cheeses and cured meat with the egg yolk. The pastry on the outside was very soft and chewy though. I think I might try the pide beef next time. Today I was craving some Mediterranean style food and this bakery & cafe popped up in my search. So went there ordered a beef pide and a double kebab wrap. I couldnt believe how busy and crowded the place was, especially that their location is not within a plaza or food court or any busy street. Had to wait long enough to get my food ready but the chef ( I assume the owner as well) was so nice and kept apologizing for the delay and he gave me two sweet items ( napolitean cake and the other peach form cake I cant remember its name)as a form of apology . Was the food worth the wait ? Absolutely!!If I had to wait more I would do it!!! Pide dough was epic and the ground beef is well spiced and yummy! The double beef Kabob wrap has a better effect than LSD , it will take you to heaven everytime u take a bite of it. The wrap bread ( i assume they make it in there) is just the perfect match with the tasty charcoaled kebab. Last but not least , the pastries were impressive. Definetely going back to try the rest of the menu!! This was my first time trying Armenian food. I placed my latte order and I was handed a pager. There was a woman working behind the counter who explained some of the menu items to me when I asked what was popular. She also explained the ordering process as I was still waiting for my friend to arrive. Then I headed upstairs to wait for my drink. The pager would notify when my order was ready and my latte was delivered upstairs by an elevator. Food was delivered the same way. You can order additional food by calling the restaurant, telling the staff your pager number and the food would then arrive by elevator. I thought the set up was pretty neat and creative! My latte was okay. I have had better lattes elsewhere, but I got my caffeine fix. I shared a few items with my friend. We ordered the pide cheese, chicken thighs and red pepper BBQ, and khinkali dumplings. The pide cheese was like a bread boat filled with cheese and egg. It was a tasty snack although I found it to be on the salty side. The chicken BBQ was made well. Chicken was tender and juicy. The onions, parsley, cucumber slices, tomato wedges and pickles added some freshness and acidity to the meal. It made the flavours more well-rounded. Lastly, I was surprised at how big the dumplings were. We were about to place a full order until staff informed us that the dumplings were big. They were correct and I was content eating just one dumpling. It was soupy with a beef filling. The dumpling skin was on the thicker side. I am used to eating xiao long bao and never eaten soup dumplings outside of a Chinese restaurant. This was definitely worth trying too. Overall, I was impressed at the quality and taste of the food. This was a great introduction to Armenian cuisine. I hope to return again to try other items on the menu. Customer service was friendly and efficient. read more

A small little restaurant with 4 tables, it gets very buys here so come early if you want to have a sit down meal. I think they mainly do catering but do offer hot food and coffee. It is located in an industrial complex along river road, somewhat hard to find and very limited parking. Lamajoun: made with beef, garlic, onion, parsley, red peppers then bakes on a thin flatbread. This was surprisingly light and loaded with flavor. Definitely a must try. Chicken thigh bbq: served with roasted red peppers, onions, and yogurt ontop of lavash flatbread. Chicken was cooked well, nice char and juicy. Flavors were on point with just the right amount of seasoning. Don't let the plate fool you, it's much more filling than it looks. This was the first time I've had Armanien food and it surely won't be the last. read more

This restaurant is a 3 table outpost for their catering company. This is my first foray in Armenian food, and I was welcomed warmly by the owners. After looking at the menu board I decided to go with the beef Pide. Everything is made fresh so it takes about 10 minutes. I'm sure you could call ahead if your squeezed for time. The pide arrives as a thick flatbread shaped like a boat. Inside this culinary canoe is a thin layer of spiced ground meet with mini squares of stewed beef sprinkled into the mix. It was good. The owner also brought me slivers of their house-cured pastrami to taste. After the Pide, I decided I needed a coffee. And then I decided I needed a slice of napolean cake to go with that coffee.... great combo! The coffee is rich and strong and paired exquisitely with the sweet goodness of their house made cake. They also brought me a slice of watermelon at the end of my meal. I'm giving the food a solid 4 stars for quality and value. Fantastic flavours and selection! We tried the Chicken BBQ, Lamb BBQ, pides, and jingle bread. We'd go back for any and all of those!
