Beef lamajoun, pide basturma and sujuk, khinkali jumbo dumpling, jazzve coffee - IG @bougiefoodieboi
    Kyle W.

Located in some industrial-looking building complexes tucks in a fairly delicious, hidden gem, Armenian restaurant with a cool concept. Despite the remoteness of the place, parking can be very uncertain as there are only 2 spots dedicated to the restaurant so you risk your car if you likely need to park at other spots. Order at the front and if you dine in, then you go upstairs and wait for the food to come out of a food elevator from the first floor! Just plan some time as the food is made fresh to order, so on a non-busy day when we went, allot about 20 minutes. This is a fast casual spot so you get the food and bus the table on your own, and you help yourself with water, etc We got the beef lamajoun, pide basturma and sujuk mix, and 1 piece Khinkali jumbo dumplings. We also tried the Jazzve coffee which is super concentrated and strong, but you could request cream and sugar. Beef lamajoun - small thin crust dough with ground beef. The red pepper and sauce with the lemon slice adds a bit of a tangy hot sauce-like flavor to it, and the lamajoun is very thinly crusted so it has a bit of a crunch. Pide - we got the mix of basturma (cured beef) and sujuk (beef sausage) which is cool to try. The bread itself is stuffed with cheese, so this dish is very filling. Even without the meat, the pide is pretty salty, so adding the meat on top of that made it super salty. I had khachapuri (Georgian style) before that is pretty similar, but this one is much more filling. Khinkali dumpling - very huge! The top is a bit too doughy but it was still a little soft. There is a good amount of meat and there is also a lot of soup too. One is enough to try something new for variety, as I feel you would get diminishing returns ordering a set of 5 if this is your first time trying this place. I enjoyed the concept and how the food is made fresh to order. Some of the dishes could be less salty (and I have a decent level of tolerance to salt as I eat out very often), but otherwise, a fairly unique restaurant in Richmond!

I loved Lamajoun. Visiting from LA, I planned well in advance to come to this establishment and support. The food was really good. I liked that the zhangyalov bread was mostly herbs and not dough; they did a great job using a thinner layer of bread. The grilled veggies were fresh, loved the eggplant, and the lavash hit the spot. It's hard to find legitimate lavash when traveling. And of course, no meal is complete without some coffee. The owners were amazing: kind, friendly, and hospitable and the venue relaxing. I recommend highly.

Ahhh I'm so glad I finally got to try this hidden gem in the industrial area in Richmond! This café is quite difficult to spot and unassuming but it packs the story of a wonderful Armenian family who cooks with their souls and provides heartwarming food for its patrons. As someone who eats East Asian food all the time, my goal for this upcoming year is to try more variety of food from different countries. My friend and I came by on a weekday for lunch and made a few choices based on the owner's recommendations. We picked the lamb soup and chicken thigh BBQ - the owner was kind in letting us know that the chicken was prepared to order and would take a little longer than usual. There is additional seating upstairs and the food arrives through a super cool elevator chute! I generally dislike lamb but to my surprise, the lamb soup was fragrant and hearty. My friend loved the soup and said it was the type that cures colds and is perfect for warming you up on a cold fall day. The soup was also packed with chickpeas, potatoes, and pieces of lamb. The chicken BBQ was a generous portion of well-seasoned chicken in the house-made lavash bread. I liked the pickled peppers and the tzatziki sauce. The chicken was flavourful and tasted tender and fresh. Overall, this was a lovely experience and I found the food hearty and healthy. I would love to return!

We came on a Saturday at 2pm and there were a few empty tables. We got a couple of items to share. The food took awhile to arrive by elevator. Be warned it can get quite hot upstairs. Our favourite was the pide cheese. It was the most visually appealing and also tasted the best. Loved the bread and the cheese combo. Doesn't get better than that. The other ones we tried all tasted similar to it. I would skip the beef wrap and the pizza and just stick with the pide cheese We also tried the napoleon and it isn't your standard puff pastry napoleon. It wasn't crispy but it was still made with layered pastry and custard. Not my cup of tea Overall service was super friendly. Food wise it maybe just didn't suit us. I would say just try the pide cheese or the pide beef if you eat meat. Wouldn't make the trek out to this industrial area just to have it. But if you are at IKEA, it's not a bad place to stop by and try it

After a trip to Georgia and Armenia I was missing the food and was amazed to discover this little place hidden in an industrial park in North Richmond. Delicious food and authentic. Not the quickest but worth the wait. There is a dining area upstairs (the food comes to you self serve via a little elevator!) but it was quite smoky and hot there, so they also have tables outside which I preferred. Recommended!

Lamajoun is definitely a hidden gem in Richmond for Armenian food. It is perfect for a quick bite while biking the dyke. In nice weather I do take out and sit along the dyke to eat. Of course if you drive, there is plenty of parking right outside the restaurant. This was my first time dining in and I was surprised by how homey and convenient it was! You order downstairs, then are provided with a number to bring upstairs to the self- serve dining area. There are cups and a water station to pour hot/cold water, cart for finished dishes, single stall washroom, and plenty of tables which fit 2-8 people each. Interestingly, there is also a foozball table, some board games, and a pottery studio (they had some signage offering classes, and also sell their ceramics). When your food is ready, a speaker and sign state the order number and a window upstairs automatically open to grab your food from an elevator chute. It is super cool, even just dining in to see their contraption is worth it! All the food was fresh and flavourful. Despite using similar ingredients of beef and bread in all the items we ordered, each dish had a distinct flavour. The pide and the bread that accompanied the lamb soup were amazingly fluffy. The lamb soup itself was so hearty with a heavy lamb flavour. It was filled with chickpeas, potato, and a good amount of lamb. The kebab wrap can be ordered with a single or double kebab inside the wrap. I felt the single was a perfect ratio of filling:wrap. The cheburek filling tasted almost like a Chinese xiaolongbao because of how moist and umami it was. Very interesting and will become one of my new go-to menu items! Lamajoun pizza was spiced and a bit tangy from the tomato. A great experience being able to try so many different foods with no frills.

Tl;dr truly a hidden gem This place is off the beaten path and my friends and I even wondered if we were at the right place. Fortunately we were and we ordered the chicken bbq with red pepper and dumplings. The food took around 15-20 minutes but it was because they were making everything fresh for us. They had a cool dumbwaiter system to bring the food to the seating area in the second floor. The food was absolutely amazing. So fresh and flavorful. Watching the bread be baked fresh was amazing and made for an excellent meal.

I've never had Armenian food before and I was quite excited to try. The restaurant is located in a very industrial side of Richmond. Upon arriving, I was dismayed to discover how big of a jump in menu price there is from 8 months ago (Google pictures). I'm thinking they probably increased the prices after they became more popular, since the premise did get year's top 100 certificate. However, we still proceeded to order a variety of items. Jazzve coffee - Armenian coffee and boy it was only a tad bit bigger than an espresso and they charged $3.99. It essentially tasted like brew coffee with a bit of sugar. Nothing special and there was even coffee ground at the bottom of the cup which rendered the coffee undrinkable. Pide basturma - this one saw an increase from $11.99 to $16.99! It was delicious but totally not worth the price, in my opinion. It was basically bread, an egg, cheese and cured beef. Lamajoun pizza - their version of pizza with beef on top. In the menu, the pizza had a lot more toppings than reality. Jingle bread - this reminded me of spanakopita and it was delicious. The chicken thigh bbq - this one increased from $12.99 to $16.99. The chicken dish came with 5 pieces of meat, some veggies and a sprinkle of chopped parsley. We peeled off a bit of the lavash bread to wrap it around the chicken and some veggies, kinda like eating fajita. Don't forget their yogurt sauce which was amazing. Overall, it was delicious but not worth the 16.99 for what the dish came with. Dumpling - we ordered one just to try but I prefer the Chinese XLB better lol. I deducted 2 stars due to the price jump. Usually, we see vendors increasing prices bit by bit... I've never seen one where dishes increased by $4-5!! Had they remain at the prices 8 months ago or increased by a little, I would have given them a higher rating. Regardless, I had a wonderful journey experiencing Armenian food.

Excellent food, with a "rustic" parking lot setting in an industrial park... we ate the Pide and beef kebab wrap at a picnic table in the parking lot and took the jumbo dumplings, borscht and jingle bread home for dinner later that evening. I didn't know how to prepare the dumplings so found some instructions online and winged it. I reheated the jingle bread (reminded us of the stuffed "dim sum" type dishes from Northern China) in the toaster oven, and heated up the borscht on the stovetop. I have to say that everything tasted really fresh and delicious - definitely worth a detour to check it out!

I regret not discovering this hidden gem earlier!! We have ordered dolma, khachapuri, lamb bbq and Khinkali dumplings and were beyond satisfied not only with taste, but with exceptional service from the their team. They went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with everything. My mom is from middle eastern descent and I have certain standards when it comes to this type of cuisine as she is an exceptional cook and Lamajoun certainly did not disappoint. We have also ordered Lavash bread to go - must try!! (Great with anything - cheese, veggies, meats..) Regret not taking more photos, but, the food tasted so good that it was gone before I knew it! Thank you!

Finally got to try this page recently from a friend's suggestion. Verdict? It's amazing value, the service is friendly, and the food is delicious. What else do you need? My group tried the beef pide, cheese pide, beef lamajoun and medovik (honey cake). The bread in the pides were both pillowy soft like you would not believe. I wish bakeries would make bread like this, it was phenomenal. The cheese and beef fillings for everything were also very flavourful, and for the beef pide they were incredibly generous- see my picture with a cross section of the crust. As for the cake? I can't even. It's a soft, subtly sweet thing of beauty. To top it off, we were also brought samples of some lovely cured meats. Basically you need to eat here!

Xiao Long Bao ($9.25) Even with my questionable chopstick skills, the wrapper didn't break at all, which shows how well they're made. The broth was flavorful, with plenty of meat inside. The noodles were so good. Al dente and the the sauce aas not salty but very tasty. No preservatives. Made fresh. The sauce very generous. I could eat bowls of it for hours. Serving was also huge. We also tried the chicken nori cutlet. It was average but still good. Serving size also good. Then we had the sizzling chiken with cheese and rice cake...another winner. Sayce was perfectly done and the cheese was ooey and gooey. The most mediocre dish was the beef bowl. I was hoping for more bulgogi flavours but got a chinese stuke stir fry instead. It was good but not korean. But hold on, this place is not a 100% korean place. Its more like a fusion. No kfc here or bossam. Their menu is not as extensive as a tradition korean place no army stew either. Even their soft tofu soups only has 1 choice. But they have a bit of everything to satisfy cravings. Their prices tho...cant be beat! One of the most affordable korean places out there. Wont break the bank. You can have a a meal for under $15 or under. Service was quick. Servers always attentive and ready to answer any questions. I would repeat for sure to try the other stuff. Cheers! Happy eating!

The space was clean and our food arrived fairly quickly. We ordered the fried chicken and beef brisket soup curry. The spices weren't as strong and fragrant as the one we had in Sapporo which is what made it so memorable for me the first time. It was also a bit salty for my liking. But the fried chicken piece was about double the size than the one in Sapporo! Perfectly juicy and the crispiness is a nice contrast to the soup and soft vegetables. Beef brisket was soft and tender but would pick the fried chicken over the brisket. The rice was a bit lackluster compared to the more fragrant one in Sapporo. It's hard to compete with soup curry from the motherland, but this is still worth trying if you're looking for something different from the usual ramen or sushi.

I guess that's the trendy thing. They give you rice refills. The soup - I ordered the kakuni pork belly curry soup. The Kakuni is really really well done. Very tender and soft, absolutely wonderful. I also liked all of the other veggies - broccoli tomatoes corn etc. the soup is on the peppery side but has a great soft flavour to it. I also added eggplant which had great texture. The rice is also very unique. It is more like whole grained rice and feels healthy. Its texture contrasts with the soup and goes well with it I think. Don't expect traditional curry but if you're open to something new this is an enjoyable meal.

The dining rooms looked pretty much the same when we walked in. Even though the Elysium menu is similar overall to the restaurant before, there are currently some unique items available now (at least from what I remember, which could be incorrect since it's been a while), such as beef / fish pancakes, mala fried chicken, and sliced steak BBQ. The dishes we tried had a lot of flavour with quality ingredients, but what made our first visit to Elysium special was the staff. Everyone who helped us that night was so friendly and kind! It was a great dinner, and we'll definitely be back.

I came here as a group of 7 and the waitress was so kind and patient in helping split the bill by individual items and shared items. The waiter who served us was also super friendly! I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone who's looking for Korean food in Richmond.

I thought the pan fried style was delectable. Super crunchy but the dumpling itself is very juicy still. The wrapper is perfectly chewy without doing too much. The chili oil is decent as well. Would highly recommend!

Highly recommend the fried ones though. They are super delish. There's only one type of Vegetarian dumpling but I very much enjoyed it. Lots of other options if you're a meat eater. We ordered some tofu pudding too. One cold sweet tofu pudding and one hot savory tofu pudding. I didn't even know you could get a savory version. Fully expected the sweet one to be better but it turned out to be the opposite at this place. The savory one was better. The sweet one was actually quite bland. It was not enjoyable at all. Come here for the dumplings. Don't bother ordering anything other than dumplings though. Stick to their namesake yummy dumplings. The tofu was a huge serving too. Especially the sweet one. The cold sweet one you just grab it yourself from the fridge. It's a huge container. We were 5 people. Between the 5 of us we had one order of meat dumplings, one order of Vegetarian dumplings, one order of sweet tofu pudding and one order of savory tofu pudding. We didn't even finish the tofu pudding and we were all soooo full. Should have just ordered one savory hot tofu pudding and left it at that. Oh, you're supposed to place your order at one of those electronic kiosks. Make sure at least one person in your party is comfortable with that kind of ordering system!
