Situated in Richmond Public Market, this is a place worth returning to. There are 2 entrances to get here & ample free parking in the market's parkade. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted by a soft spoken server who sat us right away. We ordered the Couple combo ($28.95) which comes with 3 kebabs, lots of rice, choice of veggie dish, side salad, bread, 2 dips & 2 canned soft drinks. Everything was delicious! The marinated meats were flavourful. We couldn't get enough of the dips. The rice was nice & not too fluffy (never would've thought that raisins & rice would be so good together). The only part that was so-so...the mixed veggies, a little too cold for my liking. Oh, and there wasn't enough protein. With a hungry teen, it was barely enough for meat for my carnivorous son. But all in all, I'll return!

The chapli kabob and perfectly seasoned baked afghan pallow rice with rasins and carrots.

Great food and excellent service. We just drove down from Alaska and hadn't had afghan food for twenty days. This place hit the spot with shami kabob. Reasonable prices and a warm smile.

Ate 2/3 of the rice, and still have this much left.

Good food, but wayyyy too much rice in relation to the meat. You get three pieces of small meat for the combos, and a mountain full of rice. They have to get the portions right, cuz I had a ton of rice left over, and wanted more meat with my meal. Other than that, everything was good- the flavour was there, the meat was tender, and the service was fair. Will be back if they can increase the amount of meat, and lessen the amount of rice. Until then, I'll have to make my way to Afghan Horseman for my Afghan fix.

We ordered a kebab meat platter and it definitely delivers on portion size. The standout for me was the grilled meats, especially the lamb chops and chicken kebabs. They were well-seasoned, nicely charred, and not dry (which is where a lot of places miss the mark). The rice was fragrant and paired well with everything, though pretty standard. Service was good. The atmosphere leans traditional and a bit dated, but it fits the vibe of the place. Overall: worth going for if you're craving grilled meats and a filling meal, just don't expect anything particularly refined. It's about comfort food and generous portions.

This was my first time visiting the restaurant, and the food and service were both excellent. Looking forward to my next return. My friend and I decided the Horseman Specialty Platter which serves 2 people. We started with the Humous (yellow split pea), Sabzi Mast (spinach & yogurt dip), pita bread and a salad with cucumbers, red onions, tomatoes and feta cheese. The platter was filled with a delicious rice, baked eggplant, potatoes and 3 meats (chicken kebab, Lamb Shish Kebab, Lamb Shoulder Chop). We couldn't finish as there was so much food, so took some home. We finished with Pistachio Ice Cream (pistachio, saffron & rosewater) and it was rich and delicate and a perfect ending. Once of the best I had in town. Décor is tradition and relaxing. You can ask for the traditional floor seating or table. Reservation recommended but was can early and they were able to accommodate us. Free mall complex parking but ensure you register. Many metered parking on the streets within 2-3 block radius. The #50 bus stopped right in front of the restaurant.

No other concern other than the road noise. We were a party of three - 2 adults and one 5-year old toddler. We ordered 4 things - 1. Mantu - very good but expensive for 4 dumplings 2, Chicken Shami Kebab - Comes with super soft buttery naan bread, Melt in the mouth kebabs and possibly the best kebab of my life. My son loved it and primarily ate most of it. 3. Uzbeki Palaw - Very good but the rice to meat ratio could be disappointing. 4. One cocktail and it was very good, very ethnically inspired. Everything was amazing. Portion sizes are small and we finished everything. Our server was so warm and advised visiting during brunch hours the next time to enjoy more kebabs given we likes it the best. Other tips! 1. Service is fairly quick. We were in and out within the hour. 2. There is street parking but finding a spot may still be challenging at any point. There is parking in the building but when we visited, the entrance to it was not working. 3. Reservations are highly recommended for weekends to be seated inside which is very chic and upscale. 4. Menu is pretty kid friendly food and none of the food was remotely spicy.

The cocktail buns are consistently well filled with their coconut fillings and have a tender outer bun. My family really likes how soft and satisfying these buns are to eat. I tried my Portuguese egg tart first. The pastry shell is known as a thousand layer pastry with its delucate, very flaky texture and slighty savory flavour that balances the creaminess and sweet of the egg custard. I found the custard texture with its broiled surface to be as smooth and almost as creamy as the custard filled in The He Made Portuguese tart. Almost and very close. The other flaky egg tart was similar in taste and texture in both the pastry and custard but I think Kam Do bakery's version of their Portuguese egg tart is a really good second to He Made. The flaky egg tarts are also available in a cookie crust too. For $2.45 each at this bakery it is excellent value for the money when you can't get a piece in the best. The service at this bakery is very well organized to keep line ups moving. The interior is well lit with organized and labeled shelves of baked goods ready to take home. Self serve from these shelves. They also have a refrigerated section for prepared fruit filled cakes and Swiss rolls to go. Cash and cards. No American Express accepted though.
