You push open the door and get hit with that sweet mix of fresh espresso, salty air, and coconut sunscreen somebody tracked in from the beach. The whole little surf town coffee shop hums like a porch party after Sunday service and the locals lined shoulder to shoulder chatting with one another while waiting for their morning caffeine injection. The walls were painted in those happy, sun-washed colors only a beach town could get away with -- coral orange, seafoam greens, faded turquoise -- like somebody scooped the whole coastline up and brushed it across the room. Art for sale covered nearly every inch, layered together like treasures collected over a lifetime near the tide. Nothing matched perfectly, and that's what made it beautiful. The staff moved through that little café like sunshine with shoes on -- all easy smiles, loud laughs, and hearts so big you could feel 'em the second you walked through the door. Every single one of them treated strangers like cousins comin' in from outta town. Honey, baby, darlin' floated through the air sweeter than the vanilla syrup steaming behind the counter. Their coffee was smooth enough to make you close your eyes after the first sip and forget every worry you walked in carrying. Rich, dark, and velvety without a single bitter note, it tasted like slow mornings on a wraparound porch with the ocean humming somewhere nearby. This place is the cutest! We were actually headed to a different coffee shop when we passed this one and decided to try it instead. I'm so glad we did! It has the cutest cozy interior and everyone was SO kind. It looks to be maybe connected to the gift shop next door, or at least had some stuff for sale other than coffee. We got 2 iced lattes and the staff told us to try it and let them know if we need more flavoring/sugar etc. The coffee itself is so good! read more

I visited both mornings I was in Surf City. The first day I got my normal iced honey vanilla latte, it was great! The second day I had a summer special, it was coconut crème. I normally wouldn't have ordered this but i was pleasantly surprised! Very conveniently located in the center of the island. Walking distance to the beach too. Surf City Coffee has a cute little art gallery vibe that's really charming, and the staff is super friendly. The coffee comes from a carafe rather than being freshly brewed, which isn't really our preference. It's obvious they put a lot of care and effort into what they do, and we can see why locals have their favorite drinks here. That said, with so many coffee spots around, this one just isn't quite the right fit for us. read more

I was really hoping to give a positive review today. I told my spouse I would like to give another coffee shop a try this morning instead of my go to. I stopped by around 10am with my toddler in tow and excited to see that they only have one customer and I was going to get helped and be on my merry day at the beach. No. Not only did I get no hello(s) or the warmest greeting based from previous reviews but a cold shoulder. The 3 ladies that were working today, continued their conversation amongst themselves and ignored me. I stood there for 10 minutes to give one of them a chance to grab my order. They did acknowledge another male customer sitting down (I assumed his order was being processed as one of the ladies asked him a question) I stayed after a few minutes still without any word from any of the ladies from there. Is it because I'm Asian? Was it because I didn't speak and ask you to take my order? You're a business, do better. This is why coffee places like The Daily Grind earns my business. The customer service is a whole lot better and what is expected from a business similar to yours. read more

I was very confused after going to this coffee shop today.. reviews seem to paint this place as a great coffee place with great service. The kids who helped us were not friendly. They never said hello or even smiled. They forgot our breakfast burrito. Coffee wasn't very good and the burrito was $8 for a homemade mediocre breakfast. My friends and I went for some breakfast items and landed on this gem of a shop. The staff, although slammed with customers, was quick and efficient. I got a breakfast burrito and a specialty coffee. They got my coffee to me, and it was divine. While I sipped, they prepared my burrito. It was very large and came with salsa, sour cream, and hot sauce. It wasn't spicy on its own, but the condiments gave it an entirely different dimension to the flavor.
