If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. The owner of this shop is rude and unprofessional. I brought in my surfboard for a repair, and he initially promised to do his best with the color match. When I returned, the board had a large, poorly painted purple section, and the buckle repair was lumpy. When I politely asked if he could repaint it, he became aggressive, demanded payment before I could get the paint, and even threatened to re-buckle the board. He then scraped my board with a screwdriver and shoved it at me, following me out of the store while yelling. Absolutely unacceptable behavior--avoid this shop at all costs! If u want your repair board got redamaged then go to this place. The owner Doug is someone who has big ego and impatient. I asked for a color match for my blue board. And he painted it with a purple and he call it color match cuz he said so. He thinks purple match my blue so purple is the color. He obviously doesn't know what he was doing. And he threatened me that I have two options one is he redamage the board and I get it for free or he repaint it. While I was having conversation with him about the repainting and details that I noticed of the board. He suddenly grabbed a screwdriver and scraped the hell of my board. And follow me out of the store by yelling bs

Repaired smashed nose - can barely tell!

While I like the Beach House and Channel Islands, I'd consider these more "boutique" surf shops; Surf Country is a workin' man's/woman's surf shop. They have a huge and diverse selection of new and used boards, clothing, wetsuits and accessories, in a sprawling but tight space and at reasonable prices. The staff is always very knowledgeable, and my favorite part (I shouldn't be saying it), the ding repairs. Beautiful, beautiful work and usually done within 1-2 weeks. Recently had the smashed nose of my Yater spoon repaired (see picture) and you hardly notice it. Love Surf Country!

Santa Barbara unfortunately only has a few places that do ding repair and I ended up being recommended to this place. I met the owner and he was very knowledgeable, but was also pretty unwelcoming to the store. They told me they would call me when my board was done and almost a month later I had heard nothing. I ended up calling them and my board was ready... After I picked it up, I stripped the old wax off my board and found a new ding! Most likely from another surfboard fin, or improper storage. Pretty bummed to say the least

Took two surf lessons from Doug, once with my wife and the next day with my groomsmen. Doug is an amazing instructure! He teaches you the basics and works super hard throughout the 2 hour lesson to get you standing and surfing. I had zero experience so he positioned me at the best part of the wave and told me when to paddle and when to stand. Also gave me a nice lesson on how to read bouy maps and surf reports. Great guy, super fun lesson!!! I recommended him to all of the guests at my wedding last weekend. read more

Doug is fantastic - helpful, knowledgeable and knows how to get teach surfing. He is helped me and my children so many times with sportswear, ding repair, and I just had my first lesson with him. Wish I hadn't waited so long because I have never caught so many waves in my life. He is awesome! read more

Doug is awesome. I bring all of my boards here for repair. Doug has brought a few boards back to life that I was not sure if the would be fixable. He does great work and has the best repair prices out there. He will make sure to get you back in the water really quick. Thanks Doug! read more

As a surfer, you should always shop in a store that supports the local surfers...period. Surf County is exactly this, a local shop run by local surfers. Where this shop differs, is that you are welcomed when you walk in the door and won't catch a sharp eye from behind the counter. You will be welcomed with a smile. Doug and his staff are knowledge, helpful, and professional. They have got you covered from apparel and accessories to ding repair and boards. Their board selection is top notch and most importantly shaped by the best local shapers. Go see Doug and his guys and start riding a locally made board (as you should be) and quit riding the mass produced "pop outs" that are clogging up the lineup. read more

Great place to catch some stoke , rather in the shapers bay doing first or fifth board or in shop for some local knowledge..its a genuine shop you can feel.. My 3 adult kids had a fantastic time surfing with Doug last week. Firstly he was very flexible as he called to let us no the waves were not great on the day we had booked. We rescheduled for the next day. The abilities were varied which was not a problem for Doug. He was helpful, funny and all round great guy. read more

On our first night in SB we asked the bartender at Longboard's where we could get surf lessons for our 3 boys. He gave us Doug's #. Within 24 hours of our phone call we had 3 boys suited up and learning the basics on the beach right near UCSB. Doug did a GREAT job assessing the boys' skill levels for 13, 10 and 8. He took them all out and by the end of the lesson they all got up!! Doug cheered just as much as we did. He had a great attitude and the boys really liked him. PS he had more energy than the kids getting them back into the water ASAP for the next round. It was great. Definitely look into Surf Country for lesson with a local surfer- the experience was fantastic. read more

Owner Doug Yartz is awesome and I am sure all the kids working at the shop are equally decent. A shop owned by a local surfer, who grew up working in the shop when it belonged to another owner. He eventually become the store manager, and when Jock decided to sell it, Doug purchased the shop. Originally it was half the size it is now and was so packed it was hard to find all the awesome things. Now, thanks to Doug's own handy work, the shop is large and spacious, and provides better service than most. read more

Awesome surf shop. The guys that work here were very upfront with what approach would work best for a cheap beater board I bought off craigslist. Helped me figure out the most cost efficient way to fix my board, as well as being upfront about recommending me to stay away from a particularly band delam, which saved me some money. No upselling here, just good business. Thanks guys. read more

Went in for some info and to possibly buy some fins for and older Infinity twin fin I picked up at a garage sale. The wisdom the owner and eventually another guy that was there (who happened to be an Infinity team surfer from a better time) shared was unreal. Doug runs a pretty good shop. He has most of anything you'll need and they'll spend time with you to help if you're not sure what you need. He does good ding repair, and gets really swamped in winter so be patient when everyone else in western SB county has their boards in for repair too. read more

Established in 1996.

Surf Country was opened by local surfboard shaper and former pro surfer Jeff Jasiorkowski in the fall of 1996. His manager and long time employee Doug Yartz took over July of 1999. His love for surfing and deep roots in the community helped Surf Country grow into what most consider " The real surf shop experience ". In a single day its not uncommon to see Doug and his staff do 5 repairs, 2 surf lessons and a several rentals all while helping every customer at the counter like there the only one in the store. Surf Country is a shop for the bro's not the pros.

Compared to the polished MEGA surfshops I am used to (Huntington Beach Pier), and to a lesser degree Santa Barbara Pier / Harbor, they don't have much, but what they do have is nice. Few fashion clothes if you are shopping for a hoodie / T-shirt for yourself or gifts for family. They have the essentials for surfing. With small shops I know they can't have a lot of inventory with boards, wetsuits, clothing. The store looks a little "ratty", but I suppose some see that as "local surf charm". It might throw off the tourists, certainly your mom! Fair selection of leashes. read more

Have never been out with this outfit. All of my fishing is south Orange County or San Diego. There guys are great. They do a terrific job taking care of passengers. They communicate with the captain all day to keep the lines straight to avoid tangles. Larry kept his cool with the one and only passenger that didn't want to listen to direction. I wouldn't have. I only get up there once a year but I will definitely be going out with them again. read more
