After looking around San Diego for a while trying to find a good deal on surfboards, my friend recommended this shop to me. I stopped by and was immediately impressed with the sheer amount of product and the staff's knowledge. They knew what kind of board I was looking for before I did. I got a great new board, wetsuit, roof rack, wax, everything for a great price. They have warranties on the wetsuit (along with the manufacturer's) as well. I've been coming here for years and it's the only place I go for my surfing gear. The clerks are always amazing and it's been here so long they feel like family. They have super awesome deals and will let me order things if they don't have exactly what I am looking for, for free pickup. I've been going to SurfHut since I was about 14 (28 now) and it's literally the only place I go to get wetsuits, boards, shoes, etc. I've known Jesus for a long time now, and all I can say is that he's the most generous and friendliest person I know. My parents bought me my first professional skateboard from the Surf Hut when it was at its old location on Palm Ave. I was in the second grade. After meeting Jesus I think my parents became a bit more supportive of my skateboarding endeavors, because he is just a super friendly, kind and caring enthusiast of board sports. The Surf Hut has always been the hub for young Imperial Beach skaters and surfers. When it was flat, you hung out at the Hut. Every curb and every bench within a few hundred yards of the Hut was covered with tons of wax, which Jesus usually gave to us for free. Some of us got jobs there as soon as we were old enough to work, The parking garage had a really really waxy curb that was super low that was super fun to grind. I'm pretty sure I landed my first kick flip, nollie, and all the basics within the vicinity of the shop, or in the clearly labeled "No Skateboarding Allowed" parking garage behind it. I don't know how he tolerated us for so many years. So cheers Jesus! Thanks for letting me thumb through your shop even though I had no money, and thanks for all the free wax and free stickers. Before too long my son (crossed fingers) will want a skateboard and if so, I can't think of a better reason to fly down there from Washington State and set him up proper. read more

I know Surf Hut has been around for a few decades. They are remodeling now and I am excited to see the final makeover. If you're looking for a wet suit (adults or children's) this is your spot. They also have an amazing sunblock display! Their staff is downright laid back, helpful and courteous. I got my sons spring suits here. We picked up a beach paddle ball set while we were there. Love this place! How many surf shops or retail stores have been around 25 years? There must be a reason! Many, many, years ago I bought my first skate here. They were always patient and helpful with helping me invest my hard earned allowance. They always stocked the best brands and gear from skate to surf, which I appreciated. Seems like a chill shop.. Although the workers seem to be neglectful of their customers and very talkative amongst themselves.. They didn't even try up selling.. Also, they seemed a bit racist because when a non- Asian couple walked in they got all smiles and hellos. All but one.. An older dude.. He was very attentive and very kind. Cool shop but needs to work on customer service skills. Heads up.. If any of those workers are reading this.. If you see a couple with children during tax season, they probably got a fat ass check to spend on their kids.. Guess we'll spend our money elsewhere. read more

This place is awesome. You might think that they would mark up all the prices because of where they are located, but they don't!! Their prices are often the same or very close to what you can find elsewhere. Not to mention by shopping here, you are shopping local and supporting the local economy. I went to the IB Surf Hut yesterday to get surf lessons for my 6 year old son. The staff was super friendly. They put us in touch with Ron Smith. I could not have asked for a better instructor. Ron was great, my son was up on the board on his second wave and never looked back. We are from NJ and visit SD a few times a year. When we return in August we will be in the Hut again for sure.
