Still dreaming about this delicious lobster roll. But TBH it was the truffle fries that were to die for. I was in town for work and yelped "Best Lobster Roll." This spot came up as top choice and I understand why. It is worth the visit. We rolled up late but the hostess assured our party that we would be fine as long as we ordered ASAP. While the kitchen was closing, we did not feel rushed at all. Party of five and all of us were very happy with our meals. Get the lobster roll. If you're into truffle, get the fries too. We were able to get a table right away with a little view of the shore. We got sat in a booth but it was a semi circle so it faced the view. Our waiter was really sweet and energetic. The bathroom is shared with the hotel or something so you have to go around for it a bit. For the oysters we got the Swirl Creamier and Hurricane. I can't remember which one but I did enjoy the brinier one more. For sushi we got the Crispy Garlic and Tuna. The salmon kind of just melts in your mouth and everything was soft. The edamame didn't have a strong truffle flavor, all the flavor fell to the bottom of the plate so without dipping it was rather plain. The warm crab rangoon dip was flavorful and was the perfect crisp. We also got the Lobster Spaghetti which didn't have a strong sauce flavor. A little too sweet in my opinion with a buttery flavor. It was interesting that tomatoes were cold and didn't warm up from the dish and eggplant weren't a favorite add. read more

So we sat down to a martini in an old fashioned made accidentally and ordered up the fried tomato bacon salad. We asked them to split it and they do... It has a great taste with a peppercorn ranch type dressing, fried tomatoes, bacon, and looks like a spring mix. We just love the salad... We followed that up by splitting the Korean barbecue scallops tangy Korean BBQ with a little wasabi taste over mashed potatoes and french cut green beans. It's absolutely delicious!. We've been to all the surfs and they all have their pluses and minuses Portsmouth. Fantastic view but maybe a little harder to park up Nashua New Hampshire. Not the best decor but off street parking and then the one in Woburn which you can park in a large parking lot and walk right up to it's more clean and sleek than the others... The food is the same. Tried the New England Baked Seafood Trio, and it was a simple, perfectly balanced, and incredibly comforting dish. The execution was spot on: the fish was flaky, the shrimp was cooked just right, and the scallops were easily the best bite on the plate. Showed up with a party of three on a Friday evening at 7pm. Line was 20-30 minutes inside, but we chose immediate seating outdoors. Inside the restaurant seemed quite noisy although there were a near constant stream of noisy motorcycles on the street. Lobster Kristina was delicious with a unique sauce although the lobster was slightly tough. The tuna nicoise was amazing; using seared tuna was a great idea and made the salad the best dish of the night. Lobster roll was well done, with good bread although it felt slightly light on the lobster. The vanilla cheesecake was well done and a nice level of sweetness without being overly sweet. Dined in and the service was phenomenal. I felt like the atmosphere is missing something, maybe different lighting. Drinks were made correctly and attended to promptly. We ordered the basic raw bar sampler and clam chowder to start. Clam chowder was 8/10 just a little on salty side but very good. Oysters were very good, clams on half shell were a nice novelty but not for us. With the Tuna Poke, the tuna, rice, and shrimp crackers were good but the tuna and rice itself were drowning in mayo and eel sauce. Smoked salmon was good. Smoked trout, which I generally do not care for, was excellent and the standout bite. The king crab was also cooked to perfection and a standout bite. Salmon & Tuna sashimi was also perfect and FRESH. For our mains we had Lobster Kristina and Fish n Chips. Both were cooked to perfection. Chocolate flourless cake for dessert also good. Used to be okay spot but the last few times I've gone there have been really underwhelming. Surf and Michael Timothy's across the street used to be considered "elevated dining". The french fries are Sysco truck certified and the produce they're using may or may not be old. I got the tuna poke appetizer and usually it's great but the avocado on it looked brown and old. The seaweed salad had some fresher strands and some brown, soggy, gross strands. This place has been on a steady decline for years now. We have been returning to this Nashua gem since it opened. Many others agree with a wait to be expected. A large bar area is a great place for a drink or dinner. It had been some time since we last visited and we asked ourselves after an amazing dinner and service, "we need to make this a habit!" We were going to Grammy winning Aimee Mann concert next door at the Nashua Center for Performing Arts. We started with Tuna Poke that was fresh and flavorful. A selection of oysters, really fresh clams and perfectly cooked shrimp cocktail. Classic cocktail sauce and a great mignette. Au Poivre tuna with a ginger demi glacé, sautéed broccoli and garlic mashed potatoes was phenomenal. One of the best pieces of tuna in the last few years! The blueberry crumble was shut the front door incredible. Great service including Michelle's fine crafted rye old fashion made for the perfect dinner. We will be back more often. read more

We went before a show on a Saturday night and they accommodated us at the raw bar. Drinks were ok. Sushi was decent but at $20-$22 a roll they were just ok. Server was nice but too busy to refresh water or even offer us the specials. Since we were able to see the sushi chef prepare stuff saw him prepare a particular roll that looked interesting. When we asked about it, we found out it was in that day's specials. Too bad we didn't find out about those. I live in ME, minutes from the ocean and we do not have a restaurant as good as Surf. Don't get me wrong, we have plenty of seafood restaurants, however, the menus do not have the variety like Surf. Usually a large menu can mean food is not fresh, I'm a fan of smaller menus. But Surf is an exception to this rule. Four of us went and every dish was flawless & delicious not to mention the presentation is spot on. I had the Tuna Poke, it was a perfect dish. Full of flavor and not too filling. I did two things in my visit. 1. I ordered take out [ crab cake $20.62 tax included ] and while waiting I sat at the bar and ordered a cocktail [French 75 $14.50] and sushi [ Toro maki $25.10 tax included ]. The Bad to say I over paid is understatement, I should nor have been asked to pay if I had eaten all things while I was there I would have sent it back. I was told the crab cake was lump that is why I ordered it but you will see NO Lump and lots of bread filler, absolutely disappointing!!!! I take two bites and just had to stop. If you ever had a good crab cake, a Maryland style especially prepared crab cake you would immediately appreciate a lump crab cake. This is Not it, not even close. The sushi, which was again not worth what I paid, it's not worth what you pay when you can't eat all the elements because of quality inconsistencies. The tuna was horrible, I took pictures, on each and every piece I had to spit the tuna part out it was like a bad steak, chewy and not pleasurable to eat, that was a total waste. I called the restaurant- but no one was available to speak with me so I left a message. I would be willing to revisit this review with a better experience should they make right this one but beware. Our friends invited us out to dinner here right around Christmas and it was a delightful meal! The ambiance was lovely and bright. I was hoping they would dim the lights a bit but was still ok with the brightness (and it helped the food photos turn out better!) We started with some raw bar selections and oysters shooters. Absolutely delicious, I wish I could remember the type of oysters they had. We all ordered sushi with the exception of one large, warm, buttery lobster roll. Which he devoured almost immediately. The sushi was outstanding, and the variety in rolls was great. Cilantro on sushi has now become my new favorite obsession. Cocktails were great too - we had too many to keep track but it was a great meal, especially considering how absolutely slammed the front of the house (and I imagine the back as well) was during the holiday season. One of my favorite restaurants in Nashua. We come her very frequently and always a great time. I love the hostesses always so welcoming and one in Particular even remembers my name. The food is great and the service is second to none. We almost always order the specials, tonight's sushi in the avocado was amazing. Something happened tonight worth mentioning , we were sitting at a high top as usual and one of our party knocked over his drink. In the time it took to clean it up our bartender Josh without asking, brought him another one. Talk about service and attention to detail! I promise you will never have a bad meal here. If you are looking for a good seafood spot in the Nashua area, this is the place you want to be. It was a good atmosphere, busy and welcoming. The food was excellent. My wife and I started off with oysters and sushi. They were perfect starters, both delicious and light enough not to make us full. For meals my wife got the lobster roll which you can order hot or cold, I got the seafood trio which was a great option since I wanted a variety of seafood. The flavoring and butter were perfect for my taste buds. Both of us were extremely satisfied with our food orders and we had enough food to take home as well. For drinks, my wife got a Moscow mule and I had a gin and tonic before switching to wine. The bartenders were both friendly and attentive while also being busy. So, I finally got around to visiting Surf; a New England seafood/sushi restaurant with a resounding reputation. And after this visit, we clearly understand why. I should start this off by mentioning an unwritten rule of reviewing for yours truly. And that is...unless every single item tried ranked as a 7 or higher, I can't justifiably rank them as a 5 star. That said, there is a strong likelihood of updating this review sometime in the future after we've been here a few times. Now, the wife had actually been here before me and ordered take out. Of course, my philosophy on a place like this is that you must dine inside the restaurant itself to get the best experience. This was a birthday dinner for the wife. So naturally, we went all out with 2 appetizers, a soup, and the main courses. Even ordered some fish n' chips to-go for my son. Let's break it down. Clam chowder: As you know, this is not only a staple of New England culinary culture, it's also a must try for me whenever visiting a legit seafood restaurant. This chowder is among the best I've ever tasted, despite it's slightly dubious appearance. What I mean is...usually the broth is more opaque in its creaminess. While still creamy, this rendition was more....translucent. Didn't really detract from the overall flavor. But it almost looked like there was more clam juice than cream in it. Still, you can't beat fresh so....9 out of 10 for me. Lobster mac n' cheese: Okay. As I understand it, this isn't a regular menu item, but a special they happened to have that day. Probably just as well, too because....while it was still okay, it's miles away from being top notch, due to a few issues I had with it. First, it needed a boost of seasoning. Like, it was there...but kinda underwhelming. But that's pretty minor compared to the second issue I had: it's greasy as hell! Oh, I almost forgot to mention the lack of lobster pieces. They were practically minced. It tasted okay. But the whole thing was like one giant grease bowl. 6 out of 10. Crab cakes: Yeah. These were legit. As in....I was seriously surprised and impressed by the execution. These are pan seared with a crispy outside and brilliantly seasoned innards. It came with a dab of tartar sauce, which....seems pretty odd, considering remoulade sauce is usually the go-to. But it's always impressive whenever a place can make crab cakes that taste good with or without the sauce. 8 out of 10, everyone who has tastebuds needs to try these. Lobster Kristina: This one dish gets a LOT of attention from patrons. It's nearly everyone's favorite dish, including the staff. I'll admit, I was impressed with the flavor. The sauce they use is magical in a way that can't be described with human words. But if there was one thing I'd change when ordering this dish, it's the choice of starch. Because I don't think sauce and rice work together very well (unless it's risotto). The texture of everything tasted grainy and mushy. So while the flavors were out of this world, I was distracted by the overcooked rice. Such a weird juxtaposition. 7 out of 10, I'd order this and replace the rice with pasta of some sort. Roasted Atlantic Haddock: Zeus in heaven! Who the eff came up with this dish?! It's spectacular! I mean, it isn't perfect. But...everything from the presentation to the flavor to the complexities of how they crafted their sauce from scratch.....*mwah* chef's kiss! I'd give my left arm to learn how to make a dish this sexy in my own kitchen. Alas, all I can do is a pan seared halibut in a lemon butter cream sauce BUT.....I digress. The fish flaked with ease, which...lemme tell ya, isn't easy to do. If you're not paying attention, you can very quickly overcook a fish to the point of no return. Surf NAILS it though! I did think it was a little weird how the sauce looks almost EXACTLY like the broth in the clam chowder. But...who cares?? My facehole was having a good time and that's all I care about. 9 out of 10, would recommend. By the way, I sampled some fries from my son's fish n' chips. I never dreamed something as innocuous as fries could taste so epic. Needless to say, I can't wait to try the fisherman's platter when we next visit. I think we'll get take out though. It's worth mentioning we showed up early on a Sunday afternoon, before the crowd hit. It's your best shot, considering this place does NOT do reservations (I know. I don't get it either). Service was slow, but worth the wait. I hope to update this rating in the near future. For now though, Surf receives 4 fabulous haddocks that melt in your mouth like butter out of 5. read more

We went on a packed Sunday evening, when there was a show starting soon next door and also Cinco de Mayo. Service was wonderful, and everything was running at top efficiency within the restaurant. We shared the Warm French Onion Crab dip appetizer, and we also both got the Surf Style Tacos with fried haddock. The French Onion Crab dip was kind of meh for us. There are very clear flavors of both crab and french onion, but it was a combination that was not my favorite. The fish tacos were tasty and looked nice, but I wouldn't say super interesting. I felt like it needed a salsa or aioli to put on top or something. The fries were delicious, thick and crispy and perfectly fried. I wish they had come with something other than ketchup, because the sweet tomato flavor was a clash with the fish tacos when you are alternating bites of taco and fries. All in all, the service was great and the staff and kitchen were doing a super job with a packed restaurant. I just don't think I'd be running back soon for the food. read more

So, I went to Surf Restaurant with my fiancé and holy mackerel, that place was packed! We arrived at 6pm and had to wait for 45 minutes. I felt like we were queuing for the latest iPhone release or something. But the workers were super friendly and prompt with helping us, so I guess that made up for the wait. Maybe they're just really good at surfing, so they can handle a packed restaurant with ease. Once we were finally seated, we decided to order the Red Dragon Roll and Chili and Crispy Garlic rolls. The fish was fresh and delicious, but the size and seasoning of the rolls left something to be desired. It was like the restaurant was trying to sneak in some inflation into our sushi experience. Maybe they're secretly in cahoots with the Federal Reserve or something. We also tried the Lobster fries, but they were a bit of a letdown. I was expecting some fancy, lobster-filled fries, but they were just regular fries with a bit of lobster on top. It was like ordering a fancy steak and getting served a hotdog. Maybe they should change the name to "Sad Lobster Fry Imposters." But the real star of the show was the Crispy Brussels sprouts salad. I'm not usually a fan of Brussels sprouts, but this salad was like a superhero in a bowl. It was like a party in my mouth, and everyone was invited! Maybe they put some secret spices in there that makes you feel like you're at a rave or something. Side note: You know, I totally get it - Surf Restaurant wants to cater to their audience. But come on, let people taste some spices! A little bit of diversity might lead to some adversity in the restroom for the first time, but hey, at least it's an adventure. I mean, what's life without a little bit of risk-taking, am I right? I'm all about tasting the ingredients in my food, but sometimes it feels like chefs use it as an excuse to not add any spices. Maybe they're afraid that the flavors will be too spicy for people, but I say bring on the heat! It's like a challenge for your taste buds. Who needs a bungee jump when you can have some spicy sushi rolls? Overall, Surf Restaurant was hit-and-miss in terms of food, but it was definitely a fun experience. It's like going on a rollercoaster - some parts were great, while others left you feeling a bit queasy. But hey, at least we didn't have to sign a waiver before eating the food. Surf has been a family favorite for a long time, so when I was back in NH for a work trip I wanted to bring my colleagues here for dinner. Our evening got busy and we were not going to have as much time as originally scheduled for dinner, and we almost cancelled. However, we called Surf and they went above and beyond to ensure that we got our food quickly. We talked to Josh and he was extremely helpful. Most of us got clam chowder and there were "ooh"s and "ahh"s around the table as we ate. The lobster rolls and salads were all excellent, too.
