I remember one doggie photo on their website that actually was a bit scary looking, and it turned out that the dog with the 'tough guy' photo was in the kennel right next to one we were investigating. Funny thing was, in person, the tough guy was not even slightly scary, in fact he was as gentle as a lamb. Guess who came home with us? Yeah the one I'd judged incorrectly based on one photo; he is the treasure of our family now, such a good boy. Well, when the following August (2025) rolled around and the shelter had another adoption event, we decided to find a playmate for our boy dog. We looked at a few and settled on one female that obviously did not like being in doggie jail, seems she was a bit mouthy at times which made her unpopular with visiting folks. I saw potential though, and we took her home with us, and as I felt, the light nipping has diminished over time. Though a tad crazy, she is a fun addition to our home and she can actually fly at times in our large backyard. Both dogs have grown quite affectionate with one another over time, and both even get along with our kitty. Overall, VCAS is a great place to find a friend, and give them a loving forever home.

He definitely thought that this whole case would be blown over and that people wouldn't pay attention, but we did!! That's where he went wrong. There were several options proposed such as Cesar Millán taking him, West Coast Cane Corso sanctuary to take him in, several dog trainers stepping up to the plate, his death was unnecessary and VCAS jumped the gun quite literally on this case with Bruce. This will negatively affect the publicity of VCAS & in turn the animals eligible for adoption will plummet since no one will want to adopt from here anymore. Unless there is a 360 degree change in ALL employees with educating the public on safety, security, socialization, and proper training then this shelter will not succeed. I'm sorry to say it, but walking in here feels like walking into a cesspool of unhappy and miserable employees who take joy in power tripping over the control they have to potential families looking and willing to adopt dogs. Shame on VCAS. The fight is not over and we will continue to fight the good fight until the battle is won. Justice for Bruce.

Great volunteers, very knowledgeable about all the animals…read more On August 17, 19, was free adoption day called clear the shelter and save a pet at this no kill shelter. What a great turn out, so many people who hopefully will provide a great home. They had dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, roosters and even horses. Normal fees are around $50 for adoptions, today that feel was waived. The savings could go towards the pet supplies.

On 12/17/23 we adopted 2 orange tabby kittens from Paw Works in side Pet Smart. As we were putting them in the crate 1 sneezed. By the time we got home they sneezed 4 or 5 times. I told my son to make a vet appointment as soon as possible. I thought they had Upper respiratory infections. He took them on Tuesday 12/19/23 and they were both put on antibiotics. Then Saturday 12/23/23 the smaller of the 2 not showing much improvement ( now having watering eye and wheezing) with our local vet out of town we took him to the emergency vet. Where he received a bit more medication. I guess they are lucky we have them . Instead of being sick and ignored in a small glass box . We love our new babies.

I know that another Animal Rescue does this type of thing (selling donated items to raise money for the animals) but I've never seen it inside the mall. Th clothing/items for resale were nice (more than just the Goodwill) and there were several cats hoping for adoption near the front windows. I inquired about them (because cats) and while it's not an ideal situation, it's better than them being on the streets. They are looking for volunteers to help work with the animals, so what an amazing way to give back. I plan to be back again because I fully support this cause and hope others can support them, too.

They had 116 dogs but none we liked. Then we,went to Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center. First it is smaller and they are more personable. You talk to them upon entrance and explain your need. They calmly bring out animals that might fit. The first animal brought to us was a brown lab that was not a puppy. ! Great match so far. He was friendly and obeyed commands ! Score 2. The animal concergie believed that he was potty trained.He was! It was all done in a calm and encouraging manner. So that was the dog we took home. He is a perfect fit for us. A BIG THANK YOU to everyone at SANTA PAULA ANIMAL RESCUE CENTER! BTW They gave him a rabies shot before we took him with certificate of his vaccination,and chip number. They take very good care of their animals. People who are friends of the Center drop by to walk the animals

Your spokesperson, Dan Bolton, said the following: "Obviously, we're not denying the bites, and we're not denying the harm that might have been caused by or was caused -- but the larger issue is, do we just kill an animal based on things that happened a long time ago? Or do we take into consideration the totality of their behavior, and more importantly, do we try to find a life-saving alternative?" Why were these alternatives not sought out after the first bite? Why did it happen three additional times? VCAS may have euthanized him, but SPARC's negligence in handling him is what killed him. Shame on this rescue. Shame on the higher ups. We spent over $1,000 hoping to improve our dogs' reactivity issues. We followed the homework that was given to us, stayed consistent, and while there was some minor progress, we eventually hit a wall. The BAH method is the foundation of their training approach, and while it might work for others, it just didn't lead to the results we needed unfortunately. What made it more disappointing for us is that even though the company offers lifetime support, it didn't feel like there was anything drastically new or helpful to move us forward after a certain point. Again, I commend for the trainer for trying his best and truly caring, but we hit a wall. We were basically told we were doing everything right, but the problem still wasn't getting better. This review isn't meant to discredit the trainer or the business. I'm sure he's helped many other clients successfully. Unfortunately, in our case, it didn't live up to expectations given the cost and the goals we had. Sidenote: I'm not looking for a debate or follow-up--just sharing my personal experience in case it helps someone else make an informed decision.

It takes me 30 minutes in the wee morning hours to get to her place via freeway. I don't mind the drive as I know my girl is in trustworthy hands. My flights have been in the mornings and she has been more than happy to have me drop her off early. Linda will text updates and pictures of my dog too, which makes me feel better! I love my dog and hate to leave her! I like knowing how she's doing when we're apart. Linda also pays attention to detail by cleaning the dog bowls and her blanket before I come to pick her up. Our cats require some extra care and she was happy to take all my directions and crazy needs. Linda sent us pics, checked in multiple times daily and was always available. We were just coming off a very scary episode where our baby cat was sick in the ER and she took special care to keep me updated and make me feel so much better about being away from him. We will use Linda over and over, we are so glad to have found her! :)
