We got three small ones. First one was guava and mango with free li-hing powder topping. Second was just Kona coffee; friend said it had good coffee flavor. Wow. The Hawaiian shaved ice here is not coarse! Finally someone has figured out that Asian-style shaved ice, with texture akin to powder snow, is superior to coarse ice. Just like powder snow in Lake Tahoe is superior for skiing than the east coast Icy snow. read more

We had a very nice experience here! The setting in a little strip mall was fine, nothing crazy cute or anything. Off the main strip just a bit. The employee was SO wonderful to us - very focused on us, helpful, and kind. She took her time to make each order in our 5-person group. The shave ice serving sizes are big, even the small! You get up to 3 flavors. They also have several flavors of made-in-Maui vegan coconut ice cream and regular ice cream. Well, I found my new favorite dessert. I loved the shave ice here so much, I actually went out and bought my own shave ice machine when I returned home. Their shave ice is so light and fluffy and their flavors are sweet and strong. I'm in love. My wife and I wanted to try this classic Hawaiian dessert while we were island hopping on our honeymoon, so we stopped at Surfing Monkey since it was right down the road from our Airbnb. I had the piña colada, lychee and coconut syrups with cream and my wife did the same, but substituted the coconut for coffee. The syrup quality was incredibly good. They tasted like they were made with real fruits and extracts, not the artificial stuff like you get in snow cones in the mainland. The shave ice is so light, it's exactly like freshly fallen snow. Combining the two, this shave ice joint was the perfect way to beat the heat in Maui. We actually tried a few different shave ice spots in the area and this was our favorite for their lychee and coffee flavors. I would highly recommend stopping here. Also, on one of our final days on the island (because we just had to go multiple times of course), one of the workers told us that their syrups are made by a local lady who uses all fresh ingredients, so that's just another huge plus for me! read more

I would say the shave ice was good but pretty basic. A lot of the other places have a lot more toppings and extras. Overall my shave ice was good - I got guava, pina colada, Passionfruit. I think achieved all the qualities of a standard shave ice, though by no means and expert. Came here one evening for some ice cream. Your ice cream comes in a cup. If you want a cone, you have to pay for it and it's a waffle cone. The server seemed to be a bit uninterested. Minutes later after finishing the top of my ice cream scoop, I discovered that the server had left the paper cone from the previous waffle cone inside my waffle cone.
