Gus' Hawaiian Shaved Ice became my go to spot in Maui for a refreshing delicious treat. There is such a great vibe with the vintage VW bus and the classic island sweetness of the shaved ice. I highly recommend you try the shaved ice with ice cream, adds a whole new dimension to a classic treat.

Awesome hole in the wall spot!! Gus is a chill hardworking dude and hooked it up with a generous amount of syrup and ice cream. Be patient with the wait since it's a one man show, but worth it! Really great quality shaved ice.

Such a cute little VW bus with the most light, delicious shaved fruit! We got the strawberry banana coconut cream, and the strawberry mango pineapple. So good! I've never seen shaved fruit anywhere. Would definitely come back!

Must try when in Kihei! Shave Ice is made from frozen local fruits without sugar syrup. I personally like mine with ice cream. Owner is nice and friendly and can he can be found in a vintage VW bus across the street from Kamaole 1Beach. Gus the Bus is parked by Worldmark and usually busy with customers waiting in line. Great place to go especially on a hot day after the beach or for dessert!

We didn't encounter Gus Hawaiian Shave Ice when we last visited Maui and stayed at the WorldMark at Kihei back in July 2015. However, from a recommendation from The Bro, we visited the signature VW Bus and experienced ono hua first hand...shaved frozen fruit or fruit puree late August 2025. Mind blowing, palate pleasing, refreshing!

Gus is such a chill dude There is an option to add a scoop of ice cream inside da shaved ice--I asked brah if this was what most people did and he just looks at me and goes "it's mostly just a touristy thing" hahahaha we had a good laugh Anyway. Shave ice on a sunny day at da beach. Can't beat it

Do yourself a favor and go visit Gus! (I'd love to gatekeep because who likes a long line?...but I won't) Gus serves THE best fruit shave (and one of the top shave ice) on the island (Ululani's being tied for top shave ice). Gus is a small business owned by a family. You can find them at their usual spot and I do recommend following them on IG, because they are popular and can be booked for events. So, in case they stray from their usual hours, they will post on socials. So, FRUIT SHAVE!!! Get it! Only slight downside is that allergies can be an issue, because this business is run out of a VW bus, so they use the same shave machine for the fruit shave AND to shave the ice for regular shave ice. Fruit shave (similar to "snow" some may be familiar with) looks like shave ice but melts in your mouth like ice cream. Usually they will have 2-3 flavors to choose from. We try to stick to anything new or seasonal. This time, dragon fruit was it. The POG is also one you can't go wrong with.

Great guy and fantastic products. I loved my shaved ice and my husband had the shaved fruit. Best texture. Would recommend!

9/10 pretty solid! got tigers blood, lychee, and passion fruit with coconut ice cream and condensed milk drizzle on top. the coconut ice cream was a nice twist, and was creamy delicious. i really liked the lychee and passion fruit combo. cute little truck too!

Gummy bear and Mango flavored shave ice, with vanilla topping and vanilla ice cream on the inside!

The shaved ice was exactly what we needed to fulfill my sweet tooth! Service was friendly and efficient. I was shocked at how tiny his work space was! Overall, would return! But would try another flavor, I wasn't a huge fan of gummy bear

Gus the Bus is adorable and the Shaved Ice is way better than anything we get in Kansas or Nebraska. If your adventures get you anywhere close to Gus, you must stop in. We arrived right at closing time but we were able to get some ice and have a good chat with the owner.

This place is a vibe. It is a tiny VW bus with a tall man scrunched over quietly and with great craftsmanship making one shaved ice at a time in almost a Zen-like manner. I got the shaved frozen fruit, but I think maybe the normal shave ice would be better. He was super nice too ...

Cutest truck and tasty flavors. We enjoyed getting to see how they are made from this cute little spot. Gus is quite the van!

I love how it's not just shaved ice but more akin to frozen milk that's shaved, so when it melts it's a lot like ice cream. I had to take both my daughters Rainbow ice back to get more syrup for the middle. The girl was honestly rude and finally said she'll give me additional syrup in a cup to pour in the middle. She then told me I should've mashed it all up in order to get the flavor to the middle. I know y'all have got to be kidding me. We were wasting ice everywhere just to stir it up. Also, had to wait a while to eat it and it was melting just to mix it together. Soooo many other tables got their orders and were confused as to why its white in the middle. I hope they posted reviews also. I went around and explained what she told me and they felt it was pretty dumb and cheap for the company to do this to customers. We pay way too much in Maui for cheap outs with restaurants. Try adding a little ice then flavor then stack again with a little ice then flavor, so that customers can get what they pay for.

We rushed over and waited about 20 minutes in line, which felt reasonable given the holiday. We ordered three flavors--mango, passion fruit, and Tiger's Blood--and added macadamia nut ice cream for an extra $3. Overall, the shave ice was fine, but nothing memorable. The ice itself wasn't as fluffy as Ululani's, which really affects the texture. The syrup flavors were also underwhelming. The mango flavor was a bit strange and didn't really taste like mango at all. The passion fruit and Tiger's Blood were better, but still not very bold or punchy. The macadamia nut ice cream was another letdown. It was taken straight out of the deep freezer and was rock hard at the bottom. To be fair, the employee did warn us, but for a $3 add-on, I expected a better experience. The ice cream flavor itself was just okay, and there weren't many macadamia nuts mixed in. Compared to other shave ice spots, this one falls short. The ice isn't as fluffy, the syrup flavors aren't as strong, and the value for what you get feels low. For reference, I'd give Ululani's a solid 4/5, and Waiola Shave Ice on Oahu is a 5/5 for me. Peace Love Shave Ice lands at a 3/5--fine if you're nearby or need a quick treat, but not a must-visit.

I was going to go modest with 1 fruit but decided on the 3 fruit combo of Strawberry, Mango and Banana and it was a nice swirl of fruits and the coconut base and I think best enjoyed in the crispy Waffle Cone. I'm a sprinkle addict (a go to on my ice cream since childhood lol) so that was lacking for me but I noticed you can add various toppings like Oreos, Honey, Granola, Waffle cone crumbles, etc. I tried my friend's fruit choices and they were delicious! The Pineapple with Coconut Base tasted like a Dole Whip, the Banana was light and creamy and the Strawberry and Mango (which was close to mine) was delicious as well. They have outdoor seating in the back with a little bit of shade. The last time I came with a friend was evening when it was cooler but the ice cream definitely hit during the day and was refreshing for sure.

This location is a small food shack right outside of Kihei Kalama Village. There was a small line when we got there but thankfully the person working the counter was quick. The flavors were interesting but good and while they leaned sweet, I liked that it was not a complete sugar bomb. Because of that I was able to finish the whole thing and felt refreshed afterwards. My father enjoyed his shave ice as well and agreed that while it was sweet, it was not overly so. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. While it is not in my top tier of shave ice, it is a solid option and can definitely scratch the itch when I am in the mood for one.

The girl then looked up from the register with an annoyed look on her face and said, verbatim, " does it look like I'm the head baker? I only work the register. That was the most rude response I've heard in a while... like we are supposed to know who specifically ask to order a sugar free pie ... ... just a wild situation for such a fun place with great tasting pies.
