Ok, the taste of the condensed milk with Ube was delicious no doubt. My problem is the lack of flavor in the middle of all of our ice. It was completely white. I had to take both my daughters Rainbow ice back to get more syrup for the middle. The girl was honestly rude and finally said she'll give me additional syrup in a cup to pour in the middle. She then told me I should've mashed it all up in order to get the flavor to the middle. I know y'all have got to be kidding me. We were wasting ice everywhere just to stir it up. Also, had to wait a while to eat it and it was melting just to mix it together. Soooo many other tables got their orders and were confused as to why its white in the middle. I hope they posted reviews also. I went around and explained what she told me and they felt it was pretty dumb and cheap for the company to do this to customers. Da Sweet Spot was such a fun little discovery on Maui. It's in this busy food truck area with tons going on -- random souvenir stands, different food options, a cute tortoise wandering around, gardens, just a really lively, touristy-but-charming kind of vibe. My partner actually found this place because we love Taiwanese shaved ice spots like Meet Fresh and Sul Bing on the mainland, and we wanted to see what Maui's version was like. We were absolutely not disappointed. Their take has a really tropical twist. We got an ube base and a strawberry one, and both flavors were super intense in a good way -- rich, creamy, and refreshing. The mochi was soft and chewy, and they sprinkled on this Chinese red candy powder that added a nice nostalgic sweetness. I am so glad we stopped by here, because this shave ice is very much us - Asian, Hawaiian, and everything wonderful about the island culture! After we moved to Ka'anapali for our vacation, we ended up driving back after a terrible shave ice experience there. This place is our saving grace to Maui shave ice. I repeated my order 2x - original bing bao with ube condensed milk, rice balls, lychee, covered in lilikoi jam. Sooooooo good! The rice balls were freshly made - still warm - so eat fast! The lilikoi jam was so delicious - not super sweet with a bit of tart. Everything tasted very homemade rather than fake syrup which is what others try to pass off as "natural." Service was amazing and food came out delightful! There are so many choices like baobing, hapa, and dole soft serve. Great variety of toppings and flavors. We ended up choosing the create-our-own bae-bing. You'll choose a size, type of condensed milk (regular with just condensed milk or other flavor at an additional charge) , and toppings (up to 4). There wasn't anyone in line so I didn't have to wait long for my order. There are also bench seats next to the small building that this is located in. I ordered the Keiki with Ube condensed milk, mochi, mango and li hing mui powder. It was good. The ice isn't as soft as I would have liked. And what I didn't like was that the ube condensed milk didn't go into the center of the ice so a lot of it have no flavor. I wished that the ube milk could have been mixed in better or any other flavoring could have. read more

We have tried all kinds of Shave Ice including a highly rated one at the Westin in Kaanapali. Sorry Westin this food truck Shave ice just blew you out of the water. I love the different flavor combinations my granddaughter and I shared a Rainbow while my wife and grandson destroyed a Sunset. Sooo good. We had to come back for more a couple of days later. It's been a few days since I've been back in the mainland and I am CRAVING this shave ice! My husband and I came back to Kihei Food Oasis and finally had some room for something refreshing because it was a very HOT day! This shaved ice was so good! We got the shareable size, we did regular and mango flavor with the dole whip in the middle added some toppings with mochi, strawberries and kiwi along with the condensed milk. When I say this was good I mean it! Service was great! The girls let us try toppings we weren't familiar with and the spot is so cute! Love the ambiance here! Nothing rounds out a island day-trip like a shave ice and I'm so glad that we got to check out Da Sweet Spot! When you think you've tried every type of shave ice out there, there's always someone else putting their own creative twist on the treat. Da Sweet Spot specializes in bàobīng which originated in Taiwan. The biggest difference between bàobīng and a regular shave ice is that bàobīng uses condensed milk instead of syrup flavoring. Here they have regular condensed milk and strawberry, matcha, and ube for a $2 upcharge. I went with the sharable ube bàobīng with rice balls, egg pudding and fresh fruit. The rice balls were my favorite part-- they were sweet, chewy, and you can just tell that they are made fresh! We also go their hapa which is shave ice and soft serve inside and we got the "sunset" with strawberry and mango with fresh strawberry and mango popping jelly. I loved all the different textures on this one but wish it came with the rice balls. The ambiance in this whole little food truck spot was very peaceful and had lots of areas to sit and enjoy. If / when I come back to Maui I'll be sure to check out this spot again. read more
