Went to OC Smiles on Friday 3/13/26 for a loose implant because my dentist is closed on Fridays…read more Helena was great and the only good thing i will have to say about my experience. I didn't need a diagnosis, since I told the dentist that my implant was loose. He decided to take a ct scan, charge me for it and charge me for his false "diagnosis." $290 later.. he told me I need a New crown and wanted me to pay $2900 to return for 2 more visits to "fix" it. I Declined his outrageous treatment plan, knowing my implant was just loose. I waited until Monday with no problems and went to my dentist Dr. John Vartanian (Newport Beach) who did the implant for me. He tightened the screw and I was out of there in 10 minutes for free. I believe SoCal Smiles owes me $290 back for their unnecessary scan and incorrect diagnosis. They were trying to sell me something I didn't need and I'm quite upset about how this was handled when I brought it to their attention. I would go elsewhere and not trust this place with your time or money.

Dentist Ed Fawaz with 35 years experience pushed me to do the front tooth# 8 which had a very small chip. I told him" I'm happy with it, I have it when I was a kid" many times. I also told him " it is a small chip, a filling will fall off anyway". My tooth still looked good with the small chip because it was big compared to the tiny chip. He kept pushing me. He said he would do the same thing as the # 9. Other dentists were lazy, so they didn't want to do. As a consequence, he made my tooth very short, thin and small; He ground my tooth down to the end of chipping; He also ground the front and the back of my tooth. More than 1/3 of my tooth's surfaces are damaged. There is no more filling. The day after the treatment, I came back to his office to complain about my tooth. My two front teeth were so different, one was shorter, thinner and smaller than the other one. I had no choice, he had to grind the other one, tooth # 9 shorter. I also complained him why he made my tooth so thin. He said he corrected my bite. I didn't need him to correct the bite. It was unacceptable to destroy my tooth structure to correct the bite. My teeth are straight; I had braces before.The most important thing now is my tooth is very thin, sensitive, tingling, and I feel pain especially when I touch it. When I eat, I have to be very careful; it can be fractured. The dentist Ed Fawaz damaged the nerves. It has been two months, but the symptoms are still there. I texted him and emailed him, but the dentist didn't reply to me. He destroyed my tooth, he charged me for it. He said the front tooth was cheaper than the back tooth. $150 for the back tooth, I had three fillings on the back and one on the front, so I paid $550 total. Overall dentist Ed Fawaz is unethical and dishonest. He is against my will. He is a bad dentist and a bad artist, he said he is an artist, but he can't see the difference between things. The person was extremely pushy and then I just heard a voicemail telling us the office wanted to charge $75 if my husband didn't show up on Monday. The moment I called earlier this week and spoke to that Sarah person, it left a very bad feeling but now it solidified that it feels as though there is price gauging going on. When my husband finally called this office back, Sarah casually mentioned his deep cleaning procedure would cost $700+ and if we're fine with that? And then proceeded to rush my husband into agreeing to that appointment because "they already booked for two hours." Then after I said we will not be ready to pay $700+, Sarah said "well then you can do half." What in the world? It sounded beyond shady. The whole interaction was absurd and unprofessional. I may be filing a complaint with BBB because it was very unprofessional the way this was handled. Both my husband and I currently have dental insurance. My husband does need deep cleaning but we were going to a previous office that had him do a regular cleaning more often to have him avoid the need for deep cleaning. This person would not even let me get a word in and in the end I had to tell her "excuse me you need to stop being pushy and let me talk. We are going to cancel that appointment." The dentist was good on previous visits. Also, Lorena is excellent as well. This person just left a terrible taste in our mouth (no pun intended). When I went the following week, the doctor told me I needed a routine cleaning. I expected to receive the $59 cleaning we had originally booked. Instead, the assistant told me she would ask if they could give me a deeper treatment as a one-time courtesy. I thought that was nice. She came back and told me they would not be doing any cleaning at all--yet I was still charged the $59 fee. So, to be clear: I paid $59 and received absolutely no teeth cleaning. This experience felt misleading and dishonest. Advertising a $59 cleaning, then charging the fee when no cleaning is performed, is unacceptable. After what happened with my husband's $865 treatment and then my experience, we will not be returning.
