I had a very frustrating experience with this dental office regarding billing and communication. I was charged a "no-call/no-show" fee even though I did call in and attempted to reschedule my appointment. When I reached out to question the charges, the bill I received was not clearly itemized and included vague charges that were not explained in detail. When I called to get clarification, I was told in a very rude manner that the balance could be sent to collections, which felt unnecessary and unhelpful given that I was actively trying to understand and resolve the issue. I was billed incorrectly multiple times. Mind you what he said is ILLEGAL by law. California Senate bill 1061. Since January 1, 2025, healthcare providers, billing partners, and collection agencies are strictly forbidden from furnishing medical debt information to consumer credit reporting agencies. The lack of transparency in billing, communication, and overall professionalism made this experience very disappointing. I would encourage the office to improve how they handle billing disputes and patient communication moving forward. The manager I spoke with was consistently unwelcoming and condescending. When I tried to ask questions about the charges and express my concerns, I felt dismissed rather than heard. The conversation escalated to where I was told the balance could be sent to collections, which came across as unnecessary pressure instead of a resolution-focused discussion. I've been going to him for over 15 years now. he works to help a lot of those less fortunate in other locations during the week she you can't only catch him in Newport on Tuesday's and Thursdays. Jason is at the office and will work very hard to try and accommodate you with the Dr's busy schedule. But once your in you are good hands and will be given an honest assessment of areas your concerned with and help you with a plan to achieve that. Dr. Vickerman is the best and most honest dentist I've ever been to. I've been seeing him since 2019. When I was pregnant, it was impossible to find a doctor who was willing to do treatment without any x-rays. I called his office and they scheduled me immediately, I saw Dr. Vickerman, who did an exam and determined my tooth was broken and needed to be repaired without the use of x-rays. Had an appointment that was confirmed on my voicemail. When I got there it apparently was canceled and no one bothered to let me know. They were adamant at the front office that they called to cancel. They did not. The. guy at the front desk didn't even try rescheduling. Couldn't even care less to retain business. This is my second time in their office and both time have been subpar dealing with staff. The first time the hygenist was complaining that my teeth were too dirty and invited the dr. who rents the chair next door to help, and he turned out to be unprofessional with poor bedside manner talking to me about his friends dying of skin cancer. I am giving two stars because Amanda, who cleaned my teeth, was wonderful - friendly and meticulous. The reason for my low review is that Dr. Pederson is almost never in the office for my appointments. This is a chronic issue. Dana did an amazing job cleaning my teeth - like many I don't get my teeth cleaned as often as I should - Dana was careful (zero accidental gum pokes), scrubbed and scraped thoroughly, communicated clearly and professionally - OMG I just can't say enough great things about this visit. He is by far the best dentist I've ever had and I've been going to him since I was a little kid, aside from a few years here and there in which I've seen other dentists (for the record, none of them compare; that's why whenever I visit home for the holidays I always make sure to schedule an appointment with Dr. V instead of any dentists close to where I now live). Unlike most people who visit their dentists, I love visiting Dr. Vickerman. He is friendly, gentle when he cleans and examines your teeth, and just all around a great guy. Dr welcome is the Best dentist Ive ever had. He has been our family dentist for years and I've been to other dentist and Dr welcome has fixed so many issues I've had from dentist that had no clue what they were doing. He is no nonsense and the best part is he doesn't hurt you at all. His shots never hurt! Did I mention they dont hurt?! He's super gentle and he's up-to-date on all the newest techniques . I seriously have had crowns he made for me from 1980s when he first started and they are still good!!! I can't say enough good things about him. Dr William Vickerman has been my dentist for many years and it is the best and honest dentist in Orange County. Love going to the dentist because of him. He is very gentle and has in depth knowledge about dentistry. Also he will not overcharge you, will work with your insurance and payments, not to put a burden on your budget. Fast forward 2 years and 2 months and a crown placed by Dr. Pederson literally explodes into several pieces in my mouth. An emergency temporary is needed. Not withstanding the pain and inconvenience caused by this unfortunate incident, my current dentist testifies that the crown should never have broken the way it did. It was completely unsalvageable. No bonding, nothing. The issue with the crown was the placement, not manufacture. I of course contact Dr. Pederson's office and was promptly told "that these is nothing they can do." They only warranty the crown for 1 year and after that I am on my own. It is really unfortunate that who I thought to be an outstanding dentist is really hack who refuses to stand by his work. I am now left to purchase a new crown for the second time in 2 years. If all you need is a simple cleaning, then by all means go to Smile Central Dental. Should you require more expertise and a warranty then I suggest you go elsewhere. read more

I truly love Dr. Dan Pederson. This place is so friendly and efficient. The pricing is obviously based on your insurance and luckily I have PPO. They are very informative and what is needed for you including ways to save you money with each procedure. They will provide a breakdown on what dental work needs to be done and how much it will be. They are very accommodating. Also, they are very honest! I got reimbursed back a lump sum of money instead of having it "credited" to my next checkup. I had been running from the dentist for at least 10 years. When I got insurance recently, I chose Smile Central Dental because it was local. I ended up getting really lucky to find such a great dentist in William Vickerman. He is the son of a dentist, so it's in his blood (and you can tell). After 10 years of evading the dentist, I had only a few cavities (one of which was a deep one). Dr. Vickerman was able to save my teeth with NO root canal. It took a few visits, but everything worked out and I'm good for another 10 years! But seriously, I go here now on a regular basis. After avoiding the dentist for a few years and finally getting insurance, I decided to check this place out and am grateful I've found this office! Everyone is kind, efficient, and make you feel really comfortable. They also seem much more honest than places I've gone to in the past. After my first check up and a cleaning, my next appointment was set. Sitting in the chair, I get a lot of anxiety. I teared up quite a bit during x-rays and the assistant was beyond understanding and sweet towards me. I can be overly emotional so the kindness was much appreciated! Dr. Pedersen extracted my bottom wisdom teeth a few months ago. Apparently one tooth came out with ease and the other was a bit more of a problem than expected. (I highly recommended nitrous oxide if you don't like the sounds and want the procedure to seem like it happens in the blink of an eye.) Regardless, they came out, numbed me up some more afterwards, went over after care, and sent me on my way. The recovery wasn't as terrible as I expected and they healed nicely. I went in for my cleaning after 5 years of being MIA from the dentist. The dental hygienist did an excellent job without causing pain while cleaning. She also told me that I didn't need the deep cleaning which actually made me questioned why 2 other dentist office told me that i needed this and charged me so much money, leaving me in pain and unhappy. Also, i was happy that they spoke english. Ridiculous as it may seem, the last dentist office spoke english with an accent. Which i didn't understand and ended up w/ a deep cleaning and a $200 bill they demanded that day. I was pretty sure they were explaining to me what a deep cleaning process was and that I had agreed to do this on another visit. Clearly we had communication issues. The office was clean, the people were kind and the service was EXCELLENT! The only thing that would have made the experience better was if there was a TV on the ceiling like the one they had for my daughter's dentist office. It does get boring when you can't exactly make conversation and all you can do is kind of mumble your words out. read more

What a surprisingly pleasant experience getting my wisdom teeth taken out was. I've waited 4 days to write this review to see if anything went wrong and nothing has!!! I was simply numbed and breathed in the nitrous oxide ONLY; no anesthesia. Christina (the dental assistant) called me the night before because I was freaking out that I wasn't going completely under anesthesia. The entire process with Dr. Dan Pedersen and Christina was so quick and easy. No pain then; no pain 4 days later. This review is also for Dr William Vickerman. I had been going to the same dentist for 15 years and decided that I needed a change. I wanted a dentist that was near me and from a list that I created, I picked Smile Central Dental located in a newer building in Irvine. My first visit was for a cleaning which was average or what you would expect. She was not rushed, very friendly and got 99% of the coffee and wine stains removed from my teeth. After the cleaning, I was introduced to Dr. Vickerman. He examined my teeth and noticed a problem with an old cracked silver filling in a molar. This was also discovered previously by my old dentist, so it was nice to see the consistency. I came back three days later and he went to work to replace the old silver filling with a new composite. This is where his experience and personality shines. He would tell you everything that he is doing in an effort to keep you more relaxed. During the process, he stopped and asked if I would like to see what he had done so far. He then gave me a mirror and I was able to see the molar after all the silver was removed. This put my imagination in check and made me feel better about the process. Smile Central Dental is owned by Dr. Daniel L Pedersen and he partners with a couple of other dentists including Vickerman. The waiting room is clean with a TV and magazines. From my two visits, I never had to wait more than a few minutes. The molar is feeling great, the bite is perfect and I would highly recommend Dr. Vickerman. I will definitely be going back to see him!! read more

Even though my appointment was before the doctor arrived, I didn't mind because she spent so much of her time with me doing such a fantastic job. She made recommendations to Dr. Pederson who agreed that I needed some fillings replaced and Jason up front kindly scheduled the appointment for me. AMAZING!!! Best dental experience since I was a kid. Used to go to Dr. Vickerman when I was a child and just started going back to him today. So thankful he is still in practice, as my last dental place diagnosed me with periodontal disease (typically 40s-50s, I'm 27) and turns out my gums are perfect. I had been going to the dentist every four months instead of six to "maintain" this disease I didn't have and my insurance only covers twice a year. Each visit was an average of $160 for "deep cleaning" and "irrigation" that I didn't need. I made my next dental appointment for SIX months from now, not four! I have been a patient of Dr. Vickerman since the late 1980s when he practiced up in Westminster with his late father. When I moved to South OC, I tried a couple of dentists in the area and was always disappointed. Inevitably I always went back to Dr. Vickerman in spite of the long drive. When Dr Vickerman moved to Irvine I was ecstatic. I had the best dentist in town and a short drive to get to him. Now, I have moved to Carlsbad and still drive up to Irvine to see him.
