Had a late night sushi craving attack so I headed here at 8:40 pm. The lady was really nice and let me eat my meal while they closed up. I ordered the sashimi and some sea weed salad, which both tasted great and were large pieces not slim slices like other fancier places serve. They have a large variety of rolls which I intend to come back and try. Location: This place is located near the Ballston metro station to the right of the Hilton hotel. I didn't even know it was here until the other day since it was hidden by all the construction. Tips: There's limited seating here. Great small little place for sushi and all that type of food. It's sort of hidden inside an office building but you can still see the store sign out on the roads. Don't let its small compact size fool you. They have quality food and great service. I came here randomly during the weekend as I live across the street. I walked in and was welcomed by what appeared to be the family that owns the shop. The elder female was very nice and walked me through their menu. I ordered an eel roll, Alaska roll, and miso soup. We chatted up about eyes and vision for about 5 minutes and then I took my seat. I waited another 5 minutes For my food to come out. It was fast. Then again, they were just rolling things up and microwaving soup lol. But anyways, the food was delicious. The sushi was as expected and the miso soup had good amount of tofu in it. It was also steaming hot which made it super relaxing to sip on during a cold windy Saturday. Btw just for reference, 1 sushi roll is 6 individual pieces. The only downside to this restaurant is it can get pricey. My meal cost roughly $15. Stopped by here to pick-up lunch around 12:30 because I was craving some sushi. It's a bit hidden away and very close to the Ballston metro. Inside is pretty small (a little counter for eating, however much better for waiting so to-go is the best option here). As others have mentioned, the service isn't fabulous or anything but that's not really what I expected from a To-Go joint. I only had to wait about 5 minutes to get my food which was awesome and there was no one in line ahead of me. I opted for the lunch special with three rolls and the miso soup for $10.99 which is a GREAT deal. I ordered the crispy salmon skin roll, spicy tuna with cucumber, and eel with avocado rolls. For the eel and spicy tuna, you had the option of choosing them with either cucumber or avocado based on your preference. The miso soup is self servce behind the payment area. They set up the to go bowls for you but be careful when pouring as I burned myself a little when some spilled on me. The rolls were extremely fresh and tasty. Overall, the food is good and the price is fair to say the least. Even at regular price, they are a great deal. If the service was a bit friendlier, I would've given them 5 stars but I'm not complaining. I stand corrected: you actually CAN have good sushi from a place called "Sushi 2 Go". I've been turning up my nose at this place for years, mainly because of the name. Something about the "2 Go" in the title and the "rushing" feeling it invokes. Who rushes quality sushi? But after hearing several colleagues rave about the place and drooling over their rolls at lunch time, I caved in and decided to give them a try. I turn up my nose no more! The sushi here is as fresh and tasty as what you would find at a traditional sit-down sushi restaurant. The lunch special is a great deal - 2 rolls and a miso soup for $9.50, or 3 rolls for $12.50. The best part? You can go crazy and mix and match your rolls. On my first visit, I ordered the eel and spicy tuna rolls. Both yummy, both fresh, and both done in minutes. My only criticism is that my eel roll had more rice than eel, but I can happily let that slide for the price and convenience. I would recommend sticking to more traditional rolls like tuna and salmon. The miso soup - hot and plentiful - is self-serve. My first experience yesterday was great. Today, not as good. Not only did they mess up my order but they also gave me 2 pieces of salmon that were too chewy to actually swallow. The roll I orders had no avocado in it even though it comes standard. The spicy tuna was filled with more spice than tuna. I think the real issue is that they're rushing. If they just slowed down a little bit and paid attention to the details- like giving me a spoon with my soup... this place could be great. But the staff you can tell came straight from Japan, and the quality of the fish is just great. It's a small little place conveniently located and they accommodate all requests which is also nice. I'm dropping a star simply cause they could jazz up the place a little, it looks really tacky inside and out which takes away from the food. I do recommend the simple rolls (salmon avocado, spicy tuna, eel cucumber) over the specials rolls (Rainbow roll, King Salmon). The special rolls don't really deliver, but the fish is decent. For a place that makes fast sushi for carryout, the quality and execution was top-notch. You can tell the chef has truly perfected his craft. I ordered off their specialty rolls which were quite affordable considering they give you a good amount. What really set my review soaring was the older Korean woman running the register. She smiled and gave out compliments to my girlfriend and I. She made sure our table was cleaned before we sat down. I forgot to buy a drink (try the honey dew soda!) and realized they had a credit card minimum which she told me not to worry about. I've visited Sushi2go many times now, and for the price you pay the quality continues to be great. The employees here are also incredibly nice and helpful if you have questions. Due to the limited space you aren't necessarily getting a high end sushi restaurant experience or anything but it definitely suits my needs for take out. Their yellowtail, salmon, and California rolls are probably my favorite. I haven't expanded to the specialty rolls yet but my usuals are so good I haven't felt a need to change it up. This is my second time trying them and my experience is still the same as the first time. It's OK. I ordered through uber eats and found the delivery to be quick. The sushi rolls themselves are not wrapped as tightly as most other places so it tends to fall apart rather quickly. In addition, the ingredients simply don't taste as fresh, the fish has a softer and more squishy consistency than any other sushi restaurants I've gone to--and I frequent many sushi restaurants. This is a good place for takeout sushi if you want it fresh (i.e., not from a major chain grocery store). I do not have a refined palate when it comes to sushi and I tend to think it is all delicious - Sushi 2 Go was no exception. I had the eel roll, tuna roll, and spicy salmon, all of which were delicious. You can watch the sushi chef make your order fresh and it shows in the taste. Unfortunately, I seemed to stop in at the wrong time. There was only one sushi chef working and many people in the store. It took about a half hour from the time I made my order until I received my food. I don't dock them any stars for this, but it's worth noting that you might want to call ahead if you are looking for a quick bite delivered fast. Despite the long wait, the service was terrific. The woman running the counter made me feel welcome with a few jokes. She was also quick to refill the miso soup pot when it was running low (the miso soup is self-serve). Her energy made it easy to wait for my food. The best part about Sushi 2 Go is the price! I ordered the three roll lunch special combo for $10.99, which includes three regular rolls and miso soup. Yassss - love the concept of this place! Fresh, fast, cheap sushi in my neighborhood! The only reason for the 4 star review rather than 5 star is that they seem a little disorganized... They're new so hopefully they'll work this out. But there was no clear line when I walked in and people were kind of just standing around. Also no one greeted me upon entry. It's a really small hole-in-the-wall place with just 1 sushi chef and a little Asian woman manning the cash register and handing out the orders. Also it's a little bit dark in there, with black paint on the walls. The sushi was really fresh and tasty though. The sushi chef is also SUPER fast. But the best thing by far about this place, is the pricing! $4 for the "regular sushi" rolls, such as salmon avocado, eel avocado, california roll or spicy tuna avocado etc. And just $8 for the "special" rolls, like the rainbow roll or lobster roll. Four stars for four pros about this place: 1. Cheap with variety. Who doesn't love cheap food ( that won't give you stomach aches!) This place offers your typical salmon roll and California roll. They also have some special rolls such as the Maryland Roll and King Tuna Roll. The prices range from $4 to $8, which is cheap compared to restaurant prices. They also have a few rice dishes but didn't have the chance to try any. 2. Convenient. It's located next to one of the Ballston Metro entrances where all the food trucks are usually located. Ideal place to grab lunch if you work in the area. The containers are specially designed to pack sushi with so nothing gets squished. I noticed they also have seaweed salad, edamame, and some of the usual rolls like the California roll already packed in to go containers. This is definitely a pro during rush hour. 3. Excellent quality. The rolls are pretty good for a "sushi takeout". The rice is not stale and you really don't need soy sauce nor wasabi for the rolls. The flavors are balanced with the right amount of each ingredient and sauce. Everything tastes fresh, crucial for sushi since you are ingesting raw fish. 4. Nice staff. Well, technically two workers. There is one chef and one cashier/everything lady. Both are very nice. I watched the chef make each order with care. Maybe that's why they taste good... The missing star is for the amateur interior design. The lady said it has been opened for almost two months. I understand if you are still installing new cooking ware or refrigerator, but sticky notes for signs?! Everything is labeled with your favorite colorful office sticky tabs. I had to take a double look to notice the price for the drinks because the prices are written ever so discretely on the stickies. And if everything in the fridge is $1.99, you just need one sign and not a whole bunch of $1.99 stickies for each type of drink. It looks unprofessional and silly actually. The rolls were a little smaller than I'm used to and they weren't wrapped very tight, but for $13, I'm not gonna gripe about aesthetics. The miso soup was self-serve and piping hot, even after a brisk 15 minute walk back to my office in the cold. The person taking orders had a mask that he would only wear when speaking to customers, but not when handling food. He was also not wearing gloves while taking payment or filling the bag with condiments.
