This place had been on my list for some time and I finally walked over to check them out due to happy hour. It wasn't very busy when I walked in, which was fine with me. Happy Hour is for drinks only, btw. I wasnt entirely impressed with my drink. It was pretty sweet. I came for food, too, but only ordered the shumai, which was just okay. The prices were kind of high, too! My main issue was my service experience. I was a solo diner but witnessing other tables w/more people come in and be served faster didn't sit well with me. It took a long time to even put my drink order in and by the time they returned with that, I just ordered an appetizer and then asked for my check so that I could go eat pizza around the corner. I was sitting towards the front. So, it's not like I was tucked away in the back and invisible somewhere. Kind of a bummer because the reviews are so great! Maybe it was an off day but all it takes is one bad experience for me to shy away. I probably wont be back anytime soon.

3 stars is for the food not the service. Service was a 5 so I settled at a 4. This was a quick stop before a movie at Hoffman. The inside is small but super cute. You have the option of sitting down, or placing an order at the kiosk for carry out. What originally was supposed to be carry out turned into dine in and they were quick onto to accommodate us. I ordered basic salmon and shrimp tempura rolls. I was disappointed with how flavorless they were honestly. I generally am not too adventurous outside of my known sushi spots so I thought I would be safe with the basics but unfortunately I was wrong here. I might try a speciality roll if I'm there and have a craving but I wouldn't travel for it.

This is a cute little spot! We went here for sushi. There was a bit of a crowd, but they sat us right away. My daughter ordered chicken katsu, and the portion was huge! The chicken was so tender! The sushi was decent overall. Fresh, nicely prepared, and the presentation was impressive--clean, colorful, and inviting. Not the best I've ever had, but definitely enjoyable. If you don't mind the wait, it's worth a visit for solid sushi, generous portions, and good service.

Hidden gem alert! Authentic Japanese flavors, heartfelt service, and some of the best Teriyaki Salmon we've ever had! My wife and I stopped by Ichiban Izakaya on a quiet Sunday afternoon and what a wonderful find! This cozy spot serves truly authentic Japanese food with warmth and care. We shared the Kiyomizu Shoyu (vegetable noodle soup), Ichiban Teriyaki Salmon, and Harumaki (Japanese-style veggie egg rolls). Everything was fresh, beautifully plated, and delicious. The miso soup was the best I've ever had, and the Teriyaki Salmon was grilled perfectly -- tender with a rich, flavorful sauce. Our waitress was kind and attentive, and the owner personally came out to thank us after hearing our compliments. She was gracious and clearly takes pride in her craft -- you can taste it in every bite. As a lovely surprise, she brought us a complimentary dessert sampler: Yuzu Cheesecake with a berry base and two delicate cream buns -- strawberry and key lime -- that simply melted in our mouths. Highly recommend Ichiban Izakaya! Authentic cuisine, warm hospitality, and a genuine personal touch make this a must-try in Alexandria. We'll definitely be back!

I've been coming here since they were located in Old Town Alexandria. This small, cozy restaurant is nothing short of amazing. It genuinely has a special place in my heart. I wasn't a sushi person until I started eating here. I recommend trying the Yami Yammy Roll. It's my personal favorite. Besides the amazing food and drinks, the atmosphere plays a huge part in why I love this restaurant so much. It's very welcoming and cozy. The service is 10/10. I love coming here with my boyfriend and seeing the same faces. It feels homely. God bless this restaurant and the family that works here. May God continue to flourish and prosper this establishment and the beautiful souls that keep it running. I will always support.

It was just ok. I was craving ramen after watching a movie yesterday evening. This was the closest ramen spot to the AMC theater. It wasn't too busy, so my boyfriend and I were able to get seated right away. I ordered crab salad (pretty tasty and the addition of tempura flakes on top gave it a nice crunch). Yet, the ginza shoyu wasn't it. The noodles weren't cooked through, the broth wasn't very flavorful, and the pork slices were just Ok. The whole dish was just bland. I dislike wasting food, but I couldn't even get into this. My boyfriend ordered the chicken teriyaki and he enjoyed it. I tried a piece of the chicken and it was very flavorful although the overall dish was drenched in sauce. When it's time to pay, you go up to the counter to pay. There was some confusion on their end about how to split payment among two cards, so they spent some time trying to figure that out which was confusing me to me because it's not that hard to do. Wouldn't recommend or go back here.

So happy I found this little spot! All of the rolls I got were so delicious and the presentation was amazing as well. Super fresh tasting sushi overall. The service was very fast and the restaurant was pretty clean too which was really nice. The volcano roll was my favorite out of the four rolls total. Next time me and my partner go we really want to try the Ramon, the table next to us got that and it look super yummy. Highly recommend this place!

From the moment you arrive, you're welcomed with complimentary soup, salad, and water, all of which were fresh and flavorful. I visited around noon for lunch and was seated immediately. The restaurant was fairly quiet, which made for a relaxing dining experience. Service was exceptionally fast, and the staff was attentive throughout my visit. The atmosphere is clean, comfortable, and inviting, making it a great spot for a casual lunch or dinner. I ordered the shrimp teriyaki, which was $23. While it may be slightly higher priced than some alternatives, the quality, convenient location, and free parking make it well worth the cost. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely return in the future. If you're looking for quality Japanese cuisine in Old Town Alexandria, Hinata Sushi Bar & Grill is worth checking out.

In mid-November 2025, my friend was having a birthday celebration in Old Town Alexandria. He was originally picking some Italian place, Mia's, which we were looking forward to, but I think my friend tried to book a reservation too late, and the available times weren't at all good for him. So, he switched to Asian Bistro. I was thinking this wasn't going to be as good. I was skeptical because they were simply Asian Bistro and didn't focus on one cuisine like Chinese, Thai, etc. However, I was mistaken. The restaurant is small, but they accommodated for our large group albeit a bit tight. Server was friendly. My girlfriend & I decided to split Pad Thai & a couple of sushi rolls. Wow, this was one of the best Pad Thai I've had, and the sushi rolls were surprisingly great too. If in Old Town, this is a great option.

Their menu features appetizers like summer rolls, veggie gyoza, crab & chicken shumai, and entrees like lemongrass pan fried noodles, broccoli stir fry, pad thai, and lo mein with your choice of protein as prices range from about $10-$20 per item. I kept it simple and tried the fried rice with pork. Overall excellent dish: large portion size, a sufficient amount of protein, and a nice combination of ingredients with the shredded carrots, bell peppers, peas, scallions and onions. I'll certainly be returning to try out a few more of their menu items.

It's a delicious journey through different forms of Japanese cuisine, from raw dishes to grilled, fried, and even a comforting soup course. The setting is intimate, with just a few seats per seating, which makes the experience feel personal and unrushed. Each dish is introduced with care, offering insight into the ingredients and preparation and adding an extra layer of appreciation to the meal. We opted for the sake pairing, which complemented the courses beautifully. Standout dishes for us were the sashimi and the wagyu beef, both incredibly fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared. That said, every course was truly delicious. Nasime is a wonderful spot for a thoughtful, peaceful dinner and an especially great choice for a date night. Reservations are required through Resy, and I definitely recommend coming hungry--you'll want to enjoy every course.

To explain my review, I am most influenced by how much I enjoyed the food. It's only fair to note…read morethe menu rotates and I received a serving that I would not personally enjoy. Perhaps it was being a patron during the winter when freshness is limited. Each dish we ate I rank below: 1) poached egg w/ blue crab dashi ankake (5/10) - the egg was cold and cooled the soup once the yolk was pierced which took away from the experience for me. The crab was good and it was supplemented by this corn-like kernel that was bitter and complemented the soup well. 2) seared wagyu with truffle shoyu (8/10) - seems to be a staple. Delicious. Wish there was more truffle since some pieces weren't as covered. Slightly cold but didn't take away from the experience. 3) otsukuri (sashimi) (8.5/10) - wish this was the majority of the meal. This was the part enjoyed most. A wide variety of fish. I would've enjoyed this more if it was not all served at once. 4) spanish octopus agedashi (8/10) - very delicious though the octopus pieces were very big and some too fatty. ' 5) prime fillet mignon w/ haccho miso graze (9/10) - amazing!! our favourite dish. served on a bed of eggplant and mozz cheese. The steak was perfectly cooked. 6) maple leaf duck noodle soup (3/10) - did not enjoy this dish. The broth was not savoury and the duck was far too gamey and fatty. Fortunately, we were stuffed so didn't eat this one. 7) housemade strawberry japanese fro yo (8/10) - refreshing and delicious Cocktails - 7/10 - very limited menu. We had one of the signature cocktails and a whisky. They were both light but lacked complexity. Most of the flavour was given way by the yuzu. Atmosphere - this is where the restaurant shines and I'd recommend going for a special date. It's a very intimate setting. About 10 people can be seated every time, and I believe there are two seatings each evening (6pm and 8:30pm). You are not rushed. We had the 8:30pm seating and lingered for almost 3 hours. It was an excellent environment conducive to conversation. We sat at the bar and saw the one-man show, the chef, prepare all the food. He had a haughty energy, very focused, and unsmiling. He gave the aura of a trained culinary genius. This was nicely contrasted with the one server, a charming and smiling individual. The place is not fancy - I do think it could've been nicer - but I believe it is the most authentic Japanese restaurant you'll find in all the DMV. I would highly recommend to everyone interested in fine Japanese cuisine.
