We waited 20 minutes in our booth before a server even noticed we were there. The host who seated us didn't inform anyone else, leaving us completely ignored. My boyfriend wanted to leave, but I was curious to see just how bad things could get. Unfortunately, it didn't get much better. After finally placing our order, we waited another 30-40 minutes for our food and then an additional 10-15 minutes just to get our check. In total, we spent over an hour there--most of it just waiting. The menu was disorganized and lacked clear descriptions. The menu should either be alphabetized or categorized more effectively--separating raw, cooked, and specialty rolls more clearly. While the order sheet had some structure, many specialty rolls can also be raw or cook, making it difficult to know exactly what we were getting. When the food finally arrived, it was underwhelming. We ordered three rolls and a chirashi bowl. The chirashi bowl listed "crab meat," but it turned out to be imitation crab--something that should have been disclosed. The other rolls were forgettable, and my fried roll was poorly executed; it lacked enough batter, so instead of a crispy texture, the rice became soggy with oil. Overall, this was a disappointing experience. The excessive wait times, poor menu organization, and mediocre food make it a place I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again. If you're looking for quality sushi, I'd recommend finding another spot. read more

We've visited Sushi Bar many times and it's typically our go to spot. Just a heads up there's usually a wait after placing your order. It's not the place to go if you're in a rush. Please be patient and kind to the staff. Usually they have just one server handling the entire dining room. With that said the food is absolutely worth the wait. I was there with a group of friends, so I didn't mind the wait. It was also a shorter wait than expected given the reviews. Overall, not mindblowing but not bad! Very standard sushi. Chirashi had a nice assortment of the usual fish, and they all tasted reasonably fresh and "like fish, not fishy." Octopus in particular was cooked perfectly, and rice was seasoned well. One of my dining companions said it's the most acceptable sushi in town, and I believe her. Appetizers were of mixed quality. Edamame and gyoza were standard, about average. We went here for a birthday celebration since we were in the mood for sushi. It's located at the end of 10th street by the bypass and has its own small parking lot. I'd like to start off by saying the service was fine. The food was just meh. We had appetizers, bento boxes and ramen. My salad was kind of limp. The tempura vegetables were great though. The gyoza were deep fried which I wasn't expecting and kind of flavorless. The ramen was kind of overdone for my liking but the beef on top was tasty. The shrimp tempura rolls were not very flavorful, a little mushy and the seaweed wraps were chewy. My chicken teriyaki had an odd texture, it was kind of crunchy and dry, not in a good way, but tender-ish. The sauce was nice...In all, it was a disappointment for my son's Birthday. Let's start with the fact that only MAYBE 2/3 of their lights are in proper working order. This SCREAMS that they take no pride in what they do. It was a Friday evening, around 6 pm when my 9 year old and I went in for dinner. The restaurant was not even close to being at capacity. It took 15 minutes for a server to come and take our order, which I had already selected for them on the paper to make it nice and easy. An hour later, NOBODY came to check if we needed refills on our drinks or to say "hey I'm sorry, it's going to be a while before the whole 5 rolls you ordered will come to your table." 1.5 hours in, I had to go and ask what is going on with our order and if this is normal service because if so, I would not be coming back. She was apologetic, but offered nothing but a response of your order is up next. 20 minutes later, our 5 rolls finally came. The food itself was decent. But the service and ambiance of the place was terrible. I would steer clear of this place and take your business elsewhere. It's just okay. Nothing special. We ordered four rolls to go. They were not terrible but again, just nothing outstanding. They looked good, but the flavor was just lacking. Midwest sushi seems to always have too much sauce poured over it. Our least favorite was the shrimp tempura roll. The shrimp was tough and over breaded, it was chewy. Convenience is the main reason I come here. I thoroughly believe you can find better sushi in Bloomington. However, it's easy to call in my order and pick it up in 15 minutes. They offer a wide variety of rolls, but there's not any photos or descriptions. Personally, I'm not going to spend money on a roll when I'm not sure what I'm getting. I'm a basic B when it comes to sushi. I am obsessed with spicy crab roll. I've tried it everywhere and this place makes it so dang good!!! They mix it up themselves and add some little green onions and spicy sauce. The rice and seaweed is never not on point. Everyone is entitled to their opinions especially when it comes to food. I'm not going to lie about what I thought of the place, food, or service. I should not have received messages like "who do you think you are", "I gave them 5 stars and you only give them 3 stars, are you out of your mind?!" This place is simply amazing. The ambiance is perfect for any sushi fan. Their prices are comparable to most sushi places, and the quality is high. I had the chicken katsu, which was cooked perfectly. It was also a nice size portion. The bento boxes are put together very well and come with a lot of food. We also ordered a few rolls is sushi, one of those being the 2007 roll, which was my favorite. Very polite and helpful service and we didn't wait long for our food. First trip to SushiBar - and I was pleasantly surprised. This is an old gas station and/or convenience store. Normally this would give me pause, but it's been a restaurant forever and, frankly, I'm becoming addicted to sushi. Let's start with the obvious - this is the Midwest. Bloomington, Indiana. Not Nobu. So I'm not comparing to 'real' sushi places near water with fish that flies out of the ocean onto some rice. I'm a realist. So I'm comparing to what I have around me, hence the 4-star rating. It's probably a 3.5 but what the heck, I was happy with my meal. Large menu, and everything is (at least now) 40% off the menu price which makes it very affordable even for Bloomington. Inside is nicely decorated, has some Karaoke booths (4) which I assume get more business at night. I was at lunch. No singing for me. All the basics - rolls, specialty rolls, plenty of appetizers, didn't have crab (thought was odd, it's one of my faves) and a variety of hot dishes (think teriyaki). - I had special #1 which was 6 pieces of sushi and a tuna roll. I'm new, not adventurous. Portion size was right, food was good (comparable to anything else I've had in Bloomington) and service was prompt. It was relatively crowded. With the 40%, my grand total was $12.83 plus tip. Same meal at my normal place in town would have been approaching $20. So I left happy. I'll be back. Since I work nearby I'll probably be back tomorrow LOL. read more

I really couldn't leave Bloomington without giving Sushi bar (better known as Sushi Ba because the R in the sign is charmingly always out) the recognition it deserves. At this restaurant, friends are made and beautiful memories are shared. I'm serious. Sushi Ba, you have been the go to restaurant for me and my friends over the four years I have attended IU. I still remember the first time I took a bite of a celebration roll and the utter bliss that washed over my body. It's mine and my friends favorite sushi roll we've ever eaten. Topped with five kinds of fish, seaweed salad, and BOTH spicy mayo and eel sauce--this roll has all the goods. Although COVID has prevented me from dining in this restaurant my final weeks at IU, I will continue to order the food and support a business that has brought so much joy into my life. Best of all this place has seriously the best deals in town. If you want phenomenal sushi at unbelievable prices you must try it. I want to finish with a short story. Every week I'd go in and ask if they were selling Uni. After regrettably saying they didn't have it a couple times they put it on the menu as a special! I really appreciated a business that is so attentive and caring to its customer's requests... even if that means ordering a whole new seafood from across the country. read more

All I can say is 40% off menu. You can't beat that for sushi and Japanese food. I will say the service is on the slow side, but the sushi is pretty on-par for sushi considering the price discount. They have a really wide variety of sushi combinations, and where on occasion I've gotten take-out sushi from there and the rolls seemed a little loose, I can't complain for the price and the taste is all there. I recommend this place for those who need their sushi fix, but please allow for enough wait time in case you're on a schedule. Quality, selection, and price I would give 4 stars, but service I would give it a 3. Overall I would give it a 31/2 but clearly yelp doesn't allow half stars in ratings. Just a side note that their parking lot is a little tricky to get into, and I haven't figured out the best way to pull in since the entrance is on a one-way side on 10th going east. read more
