I had never tried hibachi before and I was not disappointed ! I loved the close honey feeling the seating gives you. Our chef was super fun and even threw a broccoli at me that caught in my mouth ! The portion for the price is so worth it. I had enough leftover for dinner the next day. And the Thai tea was phenomenal. I will definitely be back.

    Chicken and Shrimp hibachi meal

I've lived in Bloomington for 2 years and haven't ever heard any reviews of this place. I decided to finally give it a try with some friends in the hibachi area, and to say it quickly, I was satisfied. Service was nice, as we had meaningful conversations with our cook while also getting constant refills without ask, which is always a small detail I love. Price is so reasonable for what you're getting as the food did not disappoint. I'm basic and just got the chicken and shrimp but was very satisfied with the entire meal, as you also get salad, soup, and veggies on the side of your order. Overall, I see the vision with the place, but it was so dead attendance wise that it just felt like we didn't belong there or something. We had the entire place to ourselves which just made it weird eating in the (almost) dead silence. Overall, good food and service, but it felt very enclosed to the point it could almost be considered uncomfortable. Maybe we just caught them on a slow day.

Asuka was a pleasant surprise. During my time in Bloomington, I'd never been to a hibachi restaurant. I decided to go with some of my colleagues before they went on vacation. l The service was great, and I got my food in a fast manner. The food was delicious, and nothing ever beats Habachi Steak with mustard sauce. Additionally, I got double rice. You can never have too many car While this restaurant's food was delicious, I do wish that our chef was a little more outgoing like others. Other than that this restaurant was an absolute delight. Overall, Asuka is a great place to gather with a large amount of friends and family.

    Beef scallion

Where to begin with this review: 1. Not greeted upon arrival, and just awkwardly standing there while staff give you looks. Eventually after a minute someone walked over to seat up. 2. The server was just plain awful. He didn't really speak to us or have any interest in us. There was a table of females that he kept going over to and spending all his time while treating the rest of the customers like we were a bother. It took 10 minutes before he came back to take our orders. (At this point it's our mistake for having not already walked out) 3. The food.... A. We ordered the calamari app. It was the chewiest and most unsavory dish of this type I have had. Like it was just frozen in a bag that they just cook when needed. B. The fried rice is the absolute worst rice I have had in my entire life. My partner guessed the awful taste comes from oyster sauce, which is our best guess to what could the terrible flavor. C. The salt and pepper fish was actually good. D. The beef and scallion was edible, but not the best. End of review. Do not come here if you want good service. Don't order the rice. Some dishes are decent. Others are hit and miss.

Clear soup with hibachi set up

I come here every week. This place rocks. The employees are so kind and they always take such great care of me and my friends. The hibachi is awesome, the chefs are hilarious and always bring their game. Highly recommend the hibachi steak with fried rice, it can't be beat. I've also tried the sushi several times and it has always been quite tasty. I will continue to come here for the rest of my tenure in Bloomington and highly suggest this place to any hibachi, sushi, or Chinese food lover!

I gave it 3-star for the service. Service was prompt in spite of the busy holiday (Christmas Day). We we're excited that we don't have to go at Chinese restaurant this year & we saw a Japanese restaurant open. I ordered a bento combo & quite not impressed. The teriyaki is not marinated it looks like they just pour the sauce to anything. We wanted hot food but it's warm and the spring roll is mushy. The quality and taste of food is below average. Unfortunately, it didn't passed our taste buds.

Chicken teriyaki, rice, sushi, yum yum sauce, sweet n sour sauce, and I can't remember what the other food item

Excellent experience! Staff were amazing and polite. Very respectful and deserve 1000 stars if possible. Above and beyond. The environment is beautiful and cultured. The food tasted healthy and great! Thank you and much appreciated :D

Ami was chosen as a family favorite and a place close to campus, where the oldest daughter (now a Junior at IU) could show us around after the meal. Note: Ami could sure use a new exterior sign. Ami is mainly a Sushi restaurant, but has Korean accents, of which my Cupbap bowl (Chicken and Rice) was quite good. I'm completely clueless regarding Sushi nomenclature, but I did know that those choices (in generous quantity) were enjoyed by the other 5 folks at the table. I was the only one that ordered beer, of which my Upland Dragonfly IPA choice had just the right amount of bite and at only $5. We also had a nice roomy table by the window. Service was friendly and prompt, albeit a bit uninspired. It was a very good family outing.

The sushi selection #2 was a little better. There was one piece of squid that included some nori and was well prepared. Tiny decorative amounts of tobiko were present. Soy sauce included was all high salt content. $82.00 Not ordering from Ami again.

The place is really cozy, I decided to eat outside on the patio as it sprinkled. They also sell some snacks and frozen goods you would find at an Asian grocer. Firstly, the prices here are amazing. The food came out relatively quick despite there being maybe one staff member there at the time. The Jjam-Ppong Ramen was great! The noodles had the perfect amount of chew and there was a decent amount of seafood in the dish considering it was only about $9. It was also the perfect amount of spice, I think even those who don't like spicy food could manage with this one. The Kimbap was also really good and had refreshing flavor with the pickles and veggies. The cheese was a nice addition. Overall I totally recommend this place. I thought the country music threw off the vibe a little. The staff were very polite. I would say the pace of service was leisurely but not nearly as slow as I had feared given some of the reviews. If anything, I had to wait a while to order after I was seated, but my food came out in a totally reasonable amount of time after that. I had the unaju and tempura ice cream. The salad that came with the meal was very basic, but the unaju was good. The eel was very flaky. The daikon tasted a little funny to me though. The presentation in the box was very nice. I really liked the tempura ice cream too. I've only had tempura ice cream once before, and this was a little different with a coating that was less crispy and more cakey. I got the shrimp tempura, and it was cold, and tasted like it was yesterdays. No crunch to the tempura whatsoever. i asked if they make it per order or one giant batch then use throught the day and the lady looked very confused. Ice cold shrimp, soggy breading, not a good mixture. Ive never had an issue with the tempura. Dinner was excellent of course. Recommend 10/10 Might want to skip sushi though. I dont recommend that. So I've read some of the reviews about how this place is really dark and dingy, when you first walk in lights are on you can see what you're doing you can see everybody there's a bar to your right and there's Booth seating for non hibachi. When you walk through the doors you're right at the desk to check in. If you look straight you can see the Hibachi room. This is a darker room so it can be more intimate. With the whole fire going on the grill, keeping it dim in the room gives it a "wow" factor and to set the mood/ambiance. Its not so dark you cant see, its just not as bright. If it's a bright room and you're having all of these fire tricks going on it's not a big wow factor. I've never had a metallic taste happen in this restaurant, nothing is wrapped in tinfoil, and I've been coming here since I moved here in 2010. Now you can sometimes get overcooked food here if the chef is overworked, but as long as you talk to them and tell them that it is overcooked they'll remake it for you. Or they'll take it off your check. Everyone here is easy going even on a super busy day. I've never had attitude from anybody. Also they don't use a bunch of sauce to Overcoat your food with flavor. A lot of other places will just load it up with teriyaki sauce and the other sauce that I can't think of the name of but the reason why they do that is because the food isn't fresh here the food is fresh. They use fresh ingredients. I've been to other Hibachi places where in their vegetables they add corn and green beans which ruins the whole flavor and then when they're cooking on the grill they add jarred garlic which is a whole different flavor that doesn't mix with the Hibachi experience. Everything is cut in front of you so if you don't think that your chicken is correctly colored you can see it and you can tell them. Again if you don't like something TALK TO THEM. They dont bite.
