Got hibachi, we always get the chicken and steak, prices have gone up since we started coming here so for 2 adults with s&c, you're looking at around 75-100$. I got the shrimp tempura, and it was cold, and tasted like it was yesterdays. No crunch to the tempura whatsoever. i asked if they make it per order or one giant batch then use throught the day and the lady looked very confused. Ice cold shrimp, soggy breading, not a good mixture. Ive never had an issue with the tempura. Dinner was excellent of course. Recommend 10/10 Might want to skip sushi though. I dont recommend that. So I've read some of the reviews about how this place is really dark and dingy, when you first walk in lights are on you can see what you're doing you can see everybody there's a bar to your right and there's Booth seating for non hibachi. When you walk through the doors you're right at the desk to check in. If you look straight you can see the Hibachi room. This is a darker room so it can be more intimate. With the whole fire going on the grill, keeping it dim in the room gives it a "wow" factor and to set the mood/ambiance. Its not so dark you cant see, its just not as bright. If it's a bright room and you're having all of these fire tricks going on it's not a big wow factor. I've never had a metallic taste happen in this restaurant, nothing is wrapped in tinfoil, and I've been coming here since I moved here in 2010. Now you can sometimes get overcooked food here if the chef is overworked, but as long as you talk to them and tell them that it is overcooked they'll remake it for you. Or they'll take it off your check. Everyone here is easy going even on a super busy day. I've never had attitude from anybody. Also they don't use a bunch of sauce to Overcoat your food with flavor. A lot of other places will just load it up with teriyaki sauce and the other sauce that I can't think of the name of but the reason why they do that is because the food isn't fresh here the food is fresh. They use fresh ingredients. I've been to other Hibachi places where in their vegetables they add corn and green beans which ruins the whole flavor and then when they're cooking on the grill they add jarred garlic which is a whole different flavor that doesn't mix with the Hibachi experience. Everything is cut in front of you so if you don't think that your chicken is correctly colored you can see it and you can tell them. Again if you don't like something TALK TO THEM. Very nice group experience. Chefs cooked well and entertained along the way without overdoing it. Good variety of menu choices, good quality food, a little heavy on the sauces that overpowered some of the flavor but still very good. Restaurant was clean, it was a little confusing figuring out what door to enter. Chairs on a table on one end of entry made us wonder if they were closed, a sign laying on the sidewalk by another door was confusing. Once we found the right door it was all good. I walked in and the restaurant looked closed down. The lights were dim, the sushi bar was empty (literally). I had no devoted server. I was sat by the host with no greeting and a menu with water. I waited 10 minutes with no interaction from anyone. My water tasted like cleaner was left in the glass. I decided to throw in the towel and head out while I was ahead. On the way out the host said can I take your order. I declined. I would keep the car in drive and roll past this one. I ended up finding My Thai Cafe/Sushi across the highway. I pretty much just come here to satisfy that sushi craving on my lunch breaks only. Its the only sushi spot that I can make it to within my hour lunch break....and it usually takes more than an hour. The salad they give is just iceberg. I like the dressing....but its is less than basic salad. The sushi is OK. Nothing super creative or over-the-top. Atmosphere leaves much to be desired. This was an old Tumbleweed restaurant, and the cactus and bullhorns are still around. Never had that in a japanese restaurant. I say it's good enough to pay lunch prices. I used to come here a lot; great atmosphere, well lit, lively staff, high quality food and prices that made sense. Today I came in for a to go order. I got two meals. I paid nearly $80 dollars for two meals. When I brought it home, the food was wrapped in foil, the meat was overcooked and tinged with a metal taste, the rice was dry and the noodles were barely passable. The building itself was dark and kind of creepy; there was no one at the front desk at first and they had to be called out by the man at the sushi bar. It was empty and their main sign was laying on the ground outside. I sat in a dimly lit booth with a menu that had price hikes added on with little paper cut-outs. It takes FOREVER to get help and don't finish your drink too early because it will be awhile until you get another. Ordered salmon sashimi and was served literally FROZEN! I don't mean cold, I mean I couldn't bite through it. I was stunned when the owner told me "oh, but it's really fresh!" REALLY? Lastly, if you order sushi, don't be in a hurry! The most basic of orders take 30 minutes. One time my wife and I ordered a sushi appetizer and we ordered and finished our entree before the "appetizer" was served. Where do I begin..... there are two sides to this story. The food is absolutely fireee flamessss (which means good for all you elder yelpers) the quantities are massive, unlike my will to live. The hibachi guy was American (oh well) but does he know how to use that grilllllll. No discrimination as long as he can cook (am I right ladies) The atmosphere is the second side of this story. My tonkatsu was not bad, but it was surrounded by heaps of garnishes that, while not technically inedible, were not appetizing. (Raw kale?) I'm certainly not at a "avoid this place at all costs" level by any means, but it's not one I'd go out of my way for. Also, use the bathroom at home or anywhere else... the bathroom here wasn't THE worst, but the smell was off-putting and it wasn't very welcoming. Great Sushi, decent Hibachi (if you are into that sort of thing). Having lived in Japan and Korea for a few years this is the best you in a land-locked state/county here in Southern Indiana. Service is good, yet I know when busy waitress can be rather busy keeping folks happy and food rolling out. I come here for the Sushi as they do not skimp on the size of the fish cuts like other restaurants. Side salad and soup are rather standard fare and nothing special. I have had better elsewhere, hence the loss of a star as these really should be freshly made and have more than just a mayo style dressing. Having cooked and eaten in Japan/Korea I know they could do better in this regard. But again, I come here for the fish and, occasionally, the fish rolls when I feel the need. These are good. There are better places in Columbus, IN that do soups and other Japanese style dishes like Unagi, Udon, Somen, or Gyudon - but for those I tend to make from scratch. Raw fish I prefer being prepared by a Sushi chef that is experienced - the owner's husband is that person. Overall you will walk away feeling pretty happy. I have not been here since the pandemic hit but now that the wife and I are fully vaccinated we are looking to do a curbside pickup/takeout. Be sure to check them out and support this local business that isn't a pop-up but has been in the community for as long as I can remember (closing in on twenty years.) Enjoy! Domo is one of our favorite meals in Bloomington. The Sushi is fantastic and it is readily apparent they place an emphasis in purchasing the best quality seafood available. The Hibachi dinners are equally impressive. We usually order the triple combo (shrimp/steak/chicken) for two people which leaves at least one full extra meal. The shrimp is always our favorite, but the steak is a close second. Let alone the fantastic meal, the skill of each Hibachi chef is incredible and provides impressive entertainment with a great tasting meal. The price isn't cheap, but considering the portions, the quality of the food, and the entertainment - it quickly balances out to a reasonably priced meal. Domo, we've been together several years now. You've been there for me on my darkest days, and I can't imagine my life without you. I guess what I'm saying is.. will you marry me? Please?? I absolutely ADORE this place. Whenever someone tells me they don't like sushi, I take them to Domo, and cram a Salmon Avalanche right in their blasphemous gullet. The Salmon Avalanche, for those poor, unfortunate souls who are unfamiliar, is the cheeseburger of sushi. It is warm, creamy, salmony deliciousness, for which words alone cannot do justice. Immediately upon trying the Salmon Avalanche, I am thanked for the introduction, and the previous sushi-doubter repents, and lives a life full of rice, seaweed and smiles. The hibachi is delicious as well, but I just can't bring myself to order it, when there are so many delicious sushi rolls. It can be a little pricey, depending on what you order, but you do seem to get what you pay for. Example: the spinach roll is simply spinach, rice, and a tasty sauce. Nothing special, for about $3.50. If you feel like shelling out about $8.50, you can get the deliciousness that is the Salmon Avalanche, or it's less hot (but still DEFINITELY attractive) sister, the Crazy Horse. They have rolls even more expensive than this, and presumably more tasty, but I never make it that far. The appetizers are delicious as well. I can never bring myself to buy Edamame at a restaurant, since you can buy a whole bag at Kroger for what restaurants charge, but should you decide to splurge, theirs is absolutely delicious. The tofu and dumplings and soups and salads are a wonderful introduction to any meal there. In short: Jesus Tap-dancing, Dog-walking, Horse-riding Christ, this place is good. I love this restaurant more than anything - it has been my birthday dinner every year for the past decade! Hibatchi is my favorite and this is the best Hibatchi place I have found out of 40 states. Everything is made fresh in front of you. Our favorite chef is Andy - so much personality and he seasons the food to perfection. The management is amazing and always knows us. ABISMAL SERVICE. Awful. Horrendous. Unacceptable. We were in shock at how terrible it was. Slow is an understatement, English isn't spoken ... downright incompetent. I felt like I was in a foreign country. Our group of 11 arrived for our 7pm reservation right on time. They had three empty hibachis but our table was still being set. So we waited and then were seated in a few minutes. Here we go. They took our drink orders almost right away. And then we waited .... and waited ... and waited ... AND WAITED. We waited FOURTY MINUTES to receive our drinks. Out of our drinks, TWO were mixed drinks, the rest were beers and sake. Like bottled beer and sake. The 11 of us have been sitting around the table, waiting for our drinks, a chef and waters. After getting our drinks, we then wait another HALF HOUR to get glasses of water. At this point, we have been seated and waiting for SEVENTY FIVE MINUTES for a chef to show up. We are starving. We ask what is going on and the communication is non existent because the waitress doesn't really speak English. Finally the chef shows up. He's a nice guy, doing his tricks and making our food. We didn't get our main courses for another thirty minutes. The food itself was actually really good. But maybe we thought that because we were delirious from hunger. At this point, after we have finished our meal it has been 2.5 HOURS. Now comes the check. We ask to split as always since every restaurant in our area almost automatically does this given it's a college town and everyone's splitting bills. Now.. we wait. AGAIN. Waiting, waiting, waiting. Twenty minutes later, one girl from our group goes up and checks to see what's happening. The splitting of checks is neurosurgery at this place. They are working on it. Okay? Another ten minutes later I go up to ask if I can help because it is getting ridiculous. We finally get our bills and get out as fast as we can. OVER THREE HOURS LATER, we are finished. We are full but that service alone had our group saying we would never go back. The two stars are solely for the fact that we liked the food once our aching bellies got it. Domo, you're in the middle of Indiana. Have servers who speak English and can handle waiting on tables of a set size. It's hibachi for crying out loud. You expect a full table and know what you're going to get. It's a pretty simple equation. The service is an embarrassment. Anyone who says otherwise on Yelp is straight up lying to you. read more

Of the two hibachi restaurants in Bloomington, this is the better of the two. The amount of food you are served is large and very tasty. The sushi is good as well. Mikado usually has a little bit better quality fish, but at a higher price in a strip mall atmosphere. Domo makes up for the difference with more comfortable surroundings and one of the best ginger dressing recipes I've ever tasted. I. Love. Domo. It is my favorite restaurant in the world. No lie. Admittedly, part of my love affair with Domo is due to nostalgia. Domo took my sushi "v-card." Nonetheless, this restaurant created a monster. I've traversed the hinterlands with my gluttonous appetite for sushi and have found none that are better. What I order (I love to share with others and always like to have left-overs...hence the previous gultton admission): House salad. Sake and Unagi nigri. Domo hand-roll. Rainbow, Boston, spicy tuna, spider, rolls. Cold, dry sake. I keep it simple; no gimmicky rolls. I might move back to Bloomington just to be close to this restaurant. read more

Don't know what is going on with this place. It used to be a great place to come for hibachi. Tonight - mind you a Wednesday night - we had to wait over an hour and half (1 1/2 hours) to get "near" to have our food - we haven't had our food yet, the cook is getting closer. NEVER again will we come here. Never had a problem at Asuka - They have our business for the future. "Buyer be aware" however, the only good thing was we had an incredible server - Samantha who did a fantastic job. If not for her, we would have walked out a long time ago. It took 10 minutes to seat us, another 10 for the same server to come by and ask what we wanted to drink and yet another 10 minutes to get it. There were 3 tables of customers there and at least 5 servers that I could see. We've given Domo several chances hoping we went on an off night. They have the weakest Udon soup in town, the tempura udon (which most places will serve the tempura on the side) had the shrimp and vegetable tempura soaking in the soup and since our server was so slow, had completely turned into an inedible glob. There was other things that were crap this last visit but I think the above is enough. Maybe their hibachi area is better? Overall: Bad service, poor execution of food preparation/serving, too pricey for what you get. We'll stick with Sushi Bar or Red Chopstick. read more
