Sushi is fresh and simply amazing- many options to choose from too, even if you've got a picky eater in your party (I tend to be picky- not liking avocado or cream cheese in my sushi). But this restaurant accommodates. I recommend the "let it roll" and the "firecracker". Something for everyone and it's all so amazing. The family is very sweet and understanding. This is a great place to get sushi, especially because it's one of the only places to get sushi in Southern Vermont! It's a bit overpriced and I tend to be hungry after eating quite a bit of sushi. I think they should include a soup or salad with an order of sushi because you really have to spend quite a bit to get yourself full. It would also be great if they incorporated other Japanese food into their menu because I find that my family won't eat here with me because they aren't sushi fans. Very disappointing. One roll had very little fish in it so I sent it back. The replacement was slightly better. Most rolls are a it overpriced and there is very little imagination in most of the " specially rolls" Used to much better places in NY and NJ. The Sushi Boat would be very easy to miss, tucked away as it is in an older mini-strip mall (that doesn't have the usual outlets that are there for the tourist trade). That said, it would be a shame to miss it, if you're in the mood for sushi. I'm not going to shine you on and tell you it's the best sushi I've ever had...it's not! It doesn't compare to the best that I've had in NYC, SF, Tokyo, or Hong Kong, but it is certainly the best sushi you will have in Manchester! One thing that you can say for the Sushi Boat is that it's clean, and the owner (Ralph) is both friendly and attentive to customer's needs. Contrary to the previous poster's review, there IS a lunch special that runs until 2.30 or perhaps 3 PM. If you're in the Manchester area, it's a solid choice for lunch or dinner. read more

Living in Southern Vermont we never expected to land upon a great sushi place. The first time we went to Sushi Boat we were blown away. There are so many great options to choose from and the atmosphere is fantastic. The owners are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. It's in a somewhat secluded part of Manchester Center, which is nice since you get away from the hustle and bustle of the main road. My husband and I love that it is BYOB, if you forget to bring your own drinks the RiteAid next door is full of VT beer options. The waitress at Sushi Boat even offers to bring you a chilled mug when she knows that you brought beer! All around this is a great restaurant and we have had nothing but good times here. read more

Absolutely delicious sushi, and we are passionate about our sushi! Small place tucked into a tiny strip mall. It's dry, so you may want to bring in your own wine or saki. Not only was this the best sushi we ever had, but the owner went out of her way to accommodate a picky 11-year-old. She had great suggestions and he walked out happy. This place is delicious. It was a bit difficult to find as it is located at the far end of a plaza off the main road. It is a small restaurant and perfect for lunch for two on a shopping day with a bottle of wine as it is also byob. The sushi is delicious and the service is great. It's a very good place to order sashimi. The cut of the fish is thicker than other places I've been to. Price also seems fair when I think about the quality of the fish used. By far, the best part of the experience was how delightful and kind all the staff were! I was there last night with three of the kids-- and after driving through traffic and snow for far too long, arriving at Sushi Boat was like finding an oasis! The BYOB meant I could pop a bottle of champagne, and then we ordered and ordered and ordered. Everything was delicious, and the edamame were perfect: hot and salty and crisp. The special rolls all sounded fantastic, but we were trying to be budget-conscious so stuck with the more modest items. The whole family is returning on Friday for a big celebration, and we'll be going to town with the ordering then. I'll let you know how we fare-- but we're already looking forward to it! read more

First and last time customer. We live 30 miles from this place and we haven't had sushi in ages. I was in town so I placed a large and expensive takeout order. I was told it would be 45 minutes. I thought that was odd for a Wednesday night but I occupied myself in town. I got there after 50 minutes, the restaurant was empty and they told me it would be another 15 minutes. Bummer but ok. The order was finally ready. I get home and it's smashed from being piled on top of itself and it's also WRONG. Instead of the 2 salmon skin rolls I ordered, there's a pile of salmon sashimi. With lemon. Lemon? Nobody in my house eats salmon sashimi. The soft shell crab in the spider roll and the shrimp tempura were obviously cooked earlier in the day- perhaps even yesterday. Mushy, no crunch, no flavor. Spicy tuna rolls were gross and slimy. Avocado was brown, wasabi was grey and tasteless, ginger looked like bubblegum and was swimming in some weird liquid. I called the "restaurant" and was told to come in and they'd fix it. A 60 mile round trip was not happening. The woman on the phone assured me she is good friends with the owners and that they are "adored." That was helpful. She also told me all their ingredients are "local" - just what you want to hear from a SUSHI JOINT in a landlocked state. When I told a friend I was going to order from them, she said, "Don't set your expectations too high." Well, I would say expect low quality food, an overpriced meal and you won't be disappointed. And unless you have an hour to kill waiting for subpar sushi, don't bother. read more

The people were very nice, it's true, but the sushi... not so much. It was okay at best, definitely not bursting with fresh or vibrant or original flavor. The fish was just not great; not the salmon or the tuna or the "yellow-tail" (they insisted) which actually was white tuna travelling under an assumed name . The main thing is that nothing really seemed fresh enough for sushi, resulting in some bland and mushy flavor and texture. Even the edimame lacked anything you could call fresh looking or tasting. The miso soup had gobs of salty miso bullion sticking to the bottom. There were, however, nice bits of seaweed and scallion. After the meal I felt a little queasy, not sure if it was in my head or not because I really didn't enjoy the meal. Sorry guys, there is a lot of room for improvement here. My second try, btw. Tokyo house in Rutland is a much better bet! read more

I have been told very good things about this place, but my husband and I have tried to go there for dinner not twice, or three times even, but FOUR times, and each time it has been closed for no apparent reason! Each time, went on a different day of the week hoping to avoid another miss, but we have been let down four times now, I don't know if it's worth it to try again. There was nothing posted about it, just a small sign on the door. I'm angry with them because I have been dying to get good sushi for some time now, but so far I have been unsuccessful.
