Teriyaki Chicken Bowl
Luis M.

Sushi Boy doesn't really have anything special, but it's an incredible value for decent taste. I typically will get their Dragon Roll or Spicy Shrimp Roll. My favorite dish is the chicken teriyaki bowl because you can sauce it up however you'd like. Overall staff is quick to get your food out! A clean place to dine in or takeout!

My wife & I came here for lunch. It brought memories when we were dating when this establishment was located on the corner Kent Ave. and Sepulveda Blvd. The atmosphere was good. The service was pretty prompt. The food tasted good.

We come here whenever we're craving something quick and satisfying. A gentle heads-up: if you're hunting for top-tier, Michelin-level sushi, this probably isn't the place, and that's okay. Don't come expecting the moon just to complain it's not orbiting close enough. This is a small, no-frills spot that serves affordable sushi that actually taste decent. Solid flavors, a nice variety of rolls and handrolls and perfect for when the sushi craving hits but the budget says "be reasonable." Service is usually fast and easy, but today (12/17/25 at 4:40pm) was a standout. The guy who took our order mentioned he used to work in the kitchen, and he was an absolute gem, super sweet and genuinely went above and beyond. The place also looked (and smelled) spotlessly clean, for anyone who claims otherwise or maybe we simply got here on a good day? To top it off, an unpleasant couple came in after us, and the cashier/server (one guy doing everything) handled the situation with total grace and professionalism. We were so impressed that we ended up tipping him around 80% , yes, eighty. So no, this isn't top-tier sushi. But if you want affordable sushi that taste good, comes out quickly, and is served with kindness, this place is absolutely worth a visit. Sometimes that's exactly what you need

My boys inhale sushi. To make my wallet survive, we take them regularly to Sushi Boy (and also the cousin restaurant of Kozo Sushi in south Torrance with a nicer building). You'll chuckle that my boys actually grade hand rolls, specialty rolls and nigiri from Sushi Boy higher than some of those swanky cloth-napkin, must-show-up-in-fancy-shoes kind of restaurants! The food is delicious. The staff is down to earth, family oriented and relaxing unpretentious. Bathrooms are not great. But we overlook that as the pro-con analysis is still highly favorable. The website and app do not work. There is no way to login. We've just accepted this as a fact of life. But the phone number for purchase rewards works! Based on how much money we spend here, we are getting free items (free tempura, soup, sushi combos) every visit! My wallet sings praises too. Don't sleep on Sushi Boy.

My review is based off of nostalgia and the fact of actually visiting a Sushi Boy brick and mortar. Back in 1999 I went to the Sushi Boy location inside Marukai's food court. I was then introduced to a roll that I highly judged because 1. it wasn't fish based 2. there was lettuce in it 3. I knew this thing would fall apart when picked up. What I didn't know is the magic behind a simple combination adding their teriyaki sauce. Its been some years that Sushi Boy left the Marukai food court and I felt I was at a loss on this roll. Since I don't live in the South Bay area it is a huge trek to come down just for sushi. Marukai is an exception since my mother's church is nearby and she loves to do her Japanese food shopping their. The roll that I'm raving about is their Chicken Maki. Simple: rice, chicken, lettuce, sesame seeds. When you add their teriyaki sauce, it is all good! This past weekend I had plans to visit the area and made a point to come to Sushi boy before heading to my destination. I had a couple of friends with me. It was their first time. I told them it is fast food sushi but its pretty good and the price is just right. 90% of the items in the photos of this review were my friend's order and they killed everything. Even the salad. The person at the register was really helpful as well. There is a menu up above and behind the register but when I asked for the chicken maki he showed me a more extensive menu that was laid out on the countertop. He also brought the order out to our table and while not knowing a key is needed to use the restroom, he handed it to me before even asking. There are a few staple food places/items for me in the South Bay and Sushi Boy has one of them. Glad to have made it. Parking: medium sized lot VERDICT: Rinse and repeat

Great little spot for a quick lunch. Sushi was fresh and delicious! We got their chicken teriyaki combo plate and two sushi combo plates along with their tempura platter(the sweet potato was my favorite). The cashier was very kind and sweet to my baby which is always a plus in any mamas book. I didn't get any pics of the food but I did love their decor on the inside!

Ordered Sushi Boy on Thanksgiving Day, 11/23/23. Calling in an order was easy. The person who took my order was friendly and nice. So grateful that they're open during the holidays. Really make it easy on those who aren't able to cook. We ordered the California platter which comes with California rolls, tuna rolls and salmon and avocado rolls. The platter was a big hit at our family Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone loved it! The rolls were fresh and really delicious. The ambiance is cool and relaxing. They have tables for those who want to dine in. We ordered from the Harbor city location and we prefer this Torrance location better. Clean and friendly staff. Easy parking as well. Definitely recommend and we will definitely be back!

For a quick bite to eat in or for take out, Sushi Boy is a convenient place to stop for Japanese food. They have a variety of rolls, bowls, and combinations to choose from on their menu and it's also easy to order ahead by phone or online. Service is quick so you don't have to wait too long after you order before getting your food, if you place your order at the counter. I have not ordered any party trays yet, so I'm not sure how far in advance you need to place these orders. The Hawthorne location has a small seating area with maybe 6 to 8 tables, so it's convenient to eat indoors there. Today we ordered a Bento Box with Karaage Chicken and a Salmon Avocado roll (4pcs) and two 3 Item Customized Combos. One combo had Teriyaki Chicken, Shrimp Tempura (3 pcs), and Beef Sukiyaki and the other one had Teriyaki Chicken, Karaage Chicken, and a Spicy Tuna Roll (4pcs). The customized combos come with either white or brown rice, miso soup and salad. The Spciy Tuna roll was not spicy at all and the Karaage chicken was "OK". The portion was pretty good, but the flavor was just average.

Raw fish just sitting in the kitchen without refrigeration!

The setting was unexpected, a sushi bar with the majority of seating behind curtains, hidden away. Sitting down, I noticed many things that made this place special; from the step-by-step instructions to the free sides of marinated celery and a blend of picked ginger. The manu was brought out and was easy to follow. For a place tha specializes in tempura, they also seemed to have mastered soba and sushi. While not pictured, I got the Carlos Jewel Box, which is a mixture of squid, shrimp, and scallop tempura; salmon, tuna, and yellowtail sashimi; miso soup; and rice all for $20. Worth it in my opinion. The sushi was fresh, and the plating was marvelous. Soba can come hot or cold, and the miso soup featured mushrooms which I had never seen before! The service was attentive and kind, nothing to fault there. While slightly on the pricier side, I can see why with the sheer number of components on each dish, and the flavors they are able to achieve though it. Good job Carlos!

When we arrived luckily there was no wait and were sat immediately. Luckily it was only a couple moments before a party of maybe 12 arrived behind us for dinner. Our host and server were helpful and efficient. We quickly scanned through their menu and decided on their combos (pork cutlet and tempura) Our trays of paradise quickly arrived and looked beautiful! ( see attached for reference ) i loved the balanced presentation and blend of flavors. Each tray had some miso, a 4 bite California roll, some rice, soba noodles, broth, wasabi and ginger. Mine came with some dipping sauce for the tempura. Considering the amount of food I was very satisfied. The tempura was gorgeously crafted with semi thin crisped batter, and a decent amount portioned. I was mostly amazed by my girlfriends pork plate. Their crisp cutlet had beautifully made with an easy crunchy exterior and soft tender pork savory to taste. All elements complimented each other perfectly. Their soba was also good quality and a nice touch to an already balanced dinner. While I was exactly stuffed after dinner, i was still impressed with their entree presentation, quality of food, calming ambiance and great service.

It's also not the type of place where they will check-in on you or refill your water. You have to yell out. Big parking lot with lots of stores to shop around too.

Food is a 4 stars, but because of the excellent staff service, 5 stars. We ordered: Mune kizokuyaki - chicken breast all spice (tare may be a better choice, but my husband wanted to try mixed spices since it was different) Unagi (eel) Teba (chicken wings) Very flavorful Ebi (shrimp) the head and shell were left on, so won't order it again as it's too much work to remove the shell and fingers get dirty) Tsukune (chicken meatballs) Beef harami steak with mashed potatoes & cabbage- only $2 more to add side mashed & cabbage Tori Q (marinated cucumbers) Agedashi Tofu Houjicha pudding for dessert (loved it) Drinks : houijicha tea and Sapporo beer Overall, for the price and the size, it's well worth it. Again, had better yakitori's elsewhere, but serving size is much smaller, so you end up ordering more; which means more $$$$. Service was also amazing and food came out quick. Our favorite picks are: Unagi, teba, tsukune, beef harami, & Tori Q cucumbers. Will come back again for sure to try other skewers/apps. I will definitely order the chicken breast/green onions in tare sauce next time as opposed the mixed spices. In summary, I highly recommend to check this place out and experience the great ambiance and service.

We won't be returning. The food was disappointing and service was mediocre…read more I made reservations via OpenTable for two and made another one for a different day (in case it passes the taste test) to take my dad to for Father's Day. Yakitori was for the most part $8 for a set of two. The quality was not worth the $4 per skewer. For skewers, we had gotten liver, heart, wing, chicken meatball, thigh with onion, chicken breast with plum. Also got the cucumber salad, fried chicken skin, and spicy karaage. The biggest complaint was that most of the skewers that didn't come with sauce were under salted and I would say it's pretty dry as well. The cucumber salad was bad because it was bitter in every piece I ate so I ended up not finishing it. The spicy karaage was an absolute no. I took one bite and didn't finish it. My boyfriend ate a small piece and the rest of the dish went untouched. When it came to ordering the finishing dish, I had called for service. The gentleman said brb he's going to grab his tablet... Only for him to come back to grab the table next to mine's order and left lol. I had to call for service again with someone else and ordered a grilled rice ball and the ramen. Grilled rice ball was a disappointment (not even surprised anymore). It was completely soft (probably too much sauce) so it wasn't crispy on the outside at all. The boyfriend enjoyed the ramen and I did try the broth and it was actually pretty good. Um, I guess the best part was the yuzu sour drink I had ordered and the broth from the ramen. I also ended up canceling my second dinner reservation for next time when the skewers came out. Never again.
