Where to begin? I honestly hadn't heard of this chain before walking in. I was actually just hunting for ramen after making a return at Walmart and thought I spotted a spot pulling into the lot. I came by myself and ordered five items plus a Yuzu Sapporo. You have to get the Yuzu Sapporo. I loved it, especially paired with the chicken skin. Perfect match. The service was great; the waiter came by and gave me a full run-through of how the menu works. Here's the breakdown: Ramen: Must-get. Grilled Ground Chicken Rice Bowl: Must-get. Fried Seared Chicken Skin Chips: Do get! Kizoku Yaki (Thigh w/ Teriyaki): Do get! Shiitake Skewer: Skip. It was small and kind of dry. I walked out super satisfied. I feel for the people who were disappointed because they've been to other locations after the fact, but I noticed the menu is already changing (saw a couple of updated editions), so hopefully they keep growing. I'd attribute my good experience to the responsive waiter, getting seated immediately at the bar, and the fact that I crushed it with my order. I'm already thinking about coming back because we really need more yakitori spots for those "in-between" stages, like a late lunch or a late- day cravings when you just want variety and small bites. That's exactly what a yakitori spot should be! It's smoky. Be prepared!

I'll give them solid 4-stars. I've been to Torikizoku in Japan, but this was the first time to go to the one in the US. (I've been to Zoku in Redondo Beach which is run by the same company, btw) The ambiance is nice and clean - much brighter and actually gives a bit nicer impression than the ones (typical izakaya atmosphere) in Japan. The service was solid - there were three servers checking/serving us during our visit, so no complaints. The food: Don't forget to order Yuzu-shio ramen when you visit. It really fits as nice 'closing' dish in lieu of dessert (for me!)

I'm writing an updated review since I actually received everything I ordered in my last visit. Coincidentally got Logan again as my server and appreciated his due diligence in making sure all ordered items arrived in a timely fashion. In no particular order, I remember eating & drinking the: Yuzu Sour, Torikawa Chips, Harame Skewers, Momo Kizokuyaki w/tare, Tsukune, and Hatsu. I was surprised, the Tsukune really impressed me. Lots of yakitori places mess this up by drying out the meat. A nearly perfect skewer I don't have a picture of because I ate it so fast. I will definitely get more than one order of this next time. The texture of chicken heart however, took me a couple of bites to get into, but I ended up liking it. I was glad I tried something new! Both the Harame beef & their chicken thigh + green onion skewers were safe and delicious choices to order again. A good & healthy reminder for all, including myself - that not receiving skewers that I highlighted in my last/2nd visit was an isolated case. I noticed that prices have really shot up since their opening. Given the range of skewers, I'd really like to see a variation of pricing other than $14 for 2 or $8 for 2. I think this place could really fill up if they added a couple of their basic/tried and true skewers on the happy hour menu. If the dinner prices were slightly lower, I'd imagine they'd build a loyal customer base with more regulars. Traditionally, yakitori isn't exactly the kind of food where the bill skyrockets. But I do understand why it's priced the way it is. The yakitori masters are a true credit to their craft!

2.5 stars Stopped by Torikizoku after work hoping for a quick, easy dinner. The Yelp photos and reviews didn't exactly sell me but sake and chicken skewers sounded like a safe bet. I also managed to miss happy hour by literally minutes (walked in at 6:33...it ends at 6:30, of course). Ordered the Kubota sake, tako karaage, tori Q, and mune kizokuyaki. Total came out to about $44 with 20% tip. Food wise...pretty underwhelming. The tako karaage was chewy and didn't taste fresh and the oil had this off flavor that kind of ruined it for me. The skewers were just okay, nothing bad but nothing I'd go back for either. Overall, kinda regret stopping in. It wasn't terrible, just probably wouldn't return.

Start with what you absolutely must try: · Chicken skin chips -- we ordered two rounds · Chicken wings -- incredibly juicy · Nankotsu karaage -- great, but best enjoyed quickly while it's hot · Yuzu ramen -- outstanding yuzu flavor paired with a rich, thick chicken broth My advice: stick with the chicken items -- that's clearly what they do best. I'd pass on the chicken meatballs and okonomiyaki. Service was a bit shaky -- our order got mixed up or sent to another table, and one server kept approaching at awkward moments, even trying to take our sake bottle before we were done. That said, the overall vibe was good, and parking is easy to find.

Stopped by this location because I heard they had great skewers. I ordered karaage, steak and chicken skewers and onigiri. I ordered my food to go because I didn't have time to dine but they did inform me it's not a typical thing they do however they are on DoorDash and Uber Eats..the space is rather small but it is lively and was a full house when I visited. The staff that took my order was really helpful and welcoming which i appreciate on a first visit because I love a nice knowledgeable person. When I got home I was surprised of the small portions but excited to dig in. The karaage was juicy however needed a bit more flavor. The skewers was the star of the show! Amazing steak full of flavor and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately the onigiri was rather smaller than expected but I couldn't even enjoy because it was burnt. I was so surprised that they would even prepare, and box up a product of this low quality. After looking at other photos from their videos and social media I know this wasn't how it was supposed to be prepared or presented. Not sure if I would return especially for how much I paid at this establishment.

Visited Torikizoku during my Memorial Day weekend getaway trip in LA and really enjoyed it! The skewers were tasty, and perfect with drinks. The atmosphere felt lively and casual. Great spot for comfort food at night with friends. Would definitely come back again!

The restaurant was a little hard to find because of the way the building laid out, but there's a lot of parking by Chili's or Walmart. Reservations were easy to book through Open Table, and we were seated right away. Our waiter was patient with us while my friends and I were looking at the menu. I love the yakitori style because you get to try so many different dishes and sauces. My favorite dishes were the cucumber salad, chicken meatballs, and harami beef. Definitely would recommend to get the melon soda float!

Small simple menu compared to Torihei (no beef tongue here), but it has a very spacious and modern dining room and an open kitchen with bar seating all around. Shitake, harame beef skewers, agedashi tofu, takoyaki all tasted fantastic. One caveat is if you sit at the bar it can get very smoky so bring a mask. Second caveat is each item comes with 2 skewers ($8 or $14) and you cannot pick and choose 2 different skewers even from the same price category-- makes no sense to me. You must get 2 skewers of the same item. That's why I'm giving them 3 stars. Also, as others have mentioned, the food is quite salty.

March ice cream imagawa yaki .. the imagawa yaki part was.. dry and a bit disappointing. Recommend the hojicha pudding over this one

Went during the week night, right after they opened. They had happy hour food and the yakisoba off the HH menu was very good. Overall, all the yakitori was very good and staff was very attentive and helpful. Defiantly recommend making reservation, if you want to go eat anytime after 6pm

I expected so much more and it was a bit of a let down. It seems very popular though and we had to go a few minutes before opening so that we could join a line that was first to sit. Food is ok, good but nothing outstanding. The most interesting for me was the shishito peppers. But nothing that would make me crave to come back. Service is nice , polite and quiet. Place is typically Japanese. Large parking lot available.

    Linda K.

Food - Small portions - Delicious flavor - Ramen bowl was flavorful - Skewers were good - Takoyaki was okay Location - Restaurant has a lot of seating - Interior is very calming and full of wood decor - Normally better if you have reservation - We walked in and got lucky Service - Host and servers were very nice! - They didn't rush us and let us talk - They gave us recommendations on what's best as well

Great time. Lance was super helpful and friendly.

Affordable but Torihei and Shin Sen Gumi skewers are packing more flavor.

The setting was unexpected, a sushi bar with the majority of seating behind curtains, hidden away. Sitting down, I noticed many things that made this place special; from the step-by-step instructions to the free sides of marinated celery and a blend of picked ginger. The manu was brought out and was easy to follow. For a place tha specializes in tempura, they also seemed to have mastered soba and sushi. While not pictured, I got the Carlos Jewel Box, which is a mixture of squid, shrimp, and scallop tempura; salmon, tuna, and yellowtail sashimi; miso soup; and rice all for $20. Worth it in my opinion. The sushi was fresh, and the plating was marvelous. Soba can come hot or cold, and the miso soup featured mushrooms which I had never seen before! The service was attentive and kind, nothing to fault there. While slightly on the pricier side, I can see why with the sheer number of components on each dish, and the flavors they are able to achieve though it. Good job Carlos!

Torihei is a small izakaya, and that intimacy is part of its charm. The compact dining room creates…read morethe kind of warm, personable atmosphere that a good neighborhood izakaya should have. Rather than feeling cramped, it feels welcoming and authentic - a place where the focus stays on good food, good drinks, and good company. Over several visits, these have become my favorite dishes: Cabbage Salad with Spicy Sauce - 4/5. Torihei offers two versions of its cabbage salad: one with a garlic sesame dressing and another with a spicy sauce. The garlic sesame version is fine, but the spicy sauce is the clear winner. It features crunchy garlic and chili oil that add texture and depth without overwhelming heat. I would have liked a little more acidity to brighten the dish, but it's still an excellent way to start the meal. Chopped Cucumber with Sesame Oil - 4.5/5. One of my favorite appetizers at Torihei. The cucumbers are smashed rather than neatly sliced, which gives the dish a rustic character and helps the dressing cling to every surface. The addition of tomatoes is a smart touch, contributing acidity and freshness. Combined with the flavorful sesame dressing, it becomes far more interesting than its humble ingredients suggest. Soboro-don - 3/5. This small rice bowl comes topped with ground chicken, a poached egg, and pickles on the side. The rice is cooked well, and the chicken itself is clearly of good quality. However, the ground chicken is surprisingly underseasoned and could use more salt or additional seasoning. Despite that flaw, it's still a comforting dish thanks to the well-prepared rice and silky egg. Beef Tongue Curry Rice - 4/5. Despite its name, this dish eats more like a stew than a traditional Japanese curry. Fortunately, it's very tasty. The sauce is rich and meaty with just a hint of curry spice. At the same time, the beef tongue contributes a buttery texture and luxurious richness. It's hearty, comforting, and one of the more memorable rice dishes on the menu. Beef Tongue Soup - 5/5. This is a clean, balanced soup that showcases restraint. The broth has enough meatiness to be satisfying without becoming heavy, letting other umami flavors come through. The beef tongue itself is tender and rich, making this an excellent side dish to accompany the restaurant's grilled offerings. Yaki Oni - 4.5/5. The grilled rice ball is exceptionally well executed. Though triangular rather than spherical, it achieves the ideal texture contrast: a lightly crunchy exterior with a soft, substantial interior. The surface develops a beautiful golden-brown crust without crossing into burnt territory. It's a simple dish done right and a perfect accompaniment to skewers. Grilled Squid - 3.5/5. The squid is succulent and tender rather than rubbery, which is often the challenge with grilled squid. The flavor is enjoyable, though I would have welcomed a bit more char and grill marks. Pork Belly and Chicken Thigh Yakitori - 3/5. These skewers are solid but not standout. Both were slightly drier than I prefer. The pork belly could benefit from more rendered fat and richness. At the same time, the chicken thigh would be more appealing with a juicier finish. Chicken Hearts and Beef Tongue Yakitori - 4/5. These are among the stronger skewers on the menu. Heavily exercised cuts tend to offer deeper flavor, and both deliver. The chicken hearts have a satisfying richness, while the beef tongue combines robust flavor with pleasant marbling. If you're ordering yakitori, these are better choices than some of the more conventional cuts. Meatball Yakitori - 4.5/5. This is deservedly one of Torihei's signature dishes. The exterior develops an excellent browning and a slight crust, while the interior remains tender, juicy, and intensely meaty. Chicken Kara-age - 3.5/5. The kara-age is good, but it falls just short of greatness. A crispier crust and juicier chicken would elevate it significantly. Still, it's a satisfying version of a classic izakaya staple. Fried Shishito Peppers - 3.5/5. These peppers are mild rather than spicy and develop a pleasant glistening texture when fried. Their slight fibrousness gives them character, making them a simple but enjoyable side dish. Creamy Annin Tofu - 5/5. Available either plain or with green tea syrup, both versions are excellent, though the green tea syrup is the better choice. The texture is closer to a delicate pudding than tofu, and the sweetness is restrained and balanced. It's a deceptively simple dessert that provides a satisfying and elegant finish to the meal. No izakaya experience is complete without alcohol, and Torihei delivers. The sake and shochu selections are solid, offering enough variety to complement the menu. Beer options are mostly limited to familiar Japanese labels, but they pair perfectly with the food. Combined with its cozy atmosphere and solid drink selection, Torihei is the kind of neighborhood izakaya that earns regulars for good reason.

Their customer service was great, we were a group of 6 and everything came out quick and we were able to enjoy our tasty food and drinks.

Has to be one my new favorite soba spots in Socal! My girlfriend used to come here with her family…read moreas a kid and raved about this spot. Their soba texture and style tastes way different than your average buckwheat noodles. It isn't as thick and reminds me of spaghetti noodles. It tastes very fresh and I'm pretty sure they make the noodles in house. Upon ordering there were so many combination and menu options to choose from. I got the soba combination with tempura and it was perfectly battered and very light. I loved the tempura here and am craving to go back. A little hack for digestion is to ask them for some soba water to drink after. They give it in a little Japanese teapot. Inside the restaurant it's really small and if you come in the afternoon on a weekend, there might be a line. We went in at 11:30am and after we were done around 12:30pm, it was really busy and people were waiting outside.

I find it hard to believe that anyone could come to Ichimi Ann and have a bad experience…read more We were treated so kindly; we waited around just for a little bit for a table. The second one opened up, the lady (who was already busy taking people's orders) immediately came and started cleaning up the dirty dishes and wiped the table for us. I felt cared for! Many of the dishes come hot or cold. My friend and I both got the yuzu chashu, but one hot and one cold. It's essentially the same, but the hot version gets slightly more broth. The yuzu flavor came through subtly, and the chashu was perfectly chewy and fell apart upon biting. The noodles were cooked perfectly, but eat fast! They tended to cook more in the hot broth as time went on. Parking, seating, and pricing may be the only downsides. I also wish we got more than three pieces of edamame. But other than that, I can see this place being a fan favorite for many!
