In my Sushi mood, yet again. Wanted to try a new place. Was searching around, and I came across Sushi Boy. Saw that they offer Sushi platters/party trays. This is really great, for parties, functions, coworker potlucks, etc. So since they had party trays on the menu, decided to go with that. I ordered the 40 piece, Sakura Party Tray. It comes with California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, and Salmon Roll. I feel the tray is a very nice variety. I had ordered online, for takeout/pickup. The restaurant inside is very nice, and the employees were also nice. The rolls themselves taste fantastic. It comes with ginger, as well as plenty of Wasabi and Soy Sauce. The California Roll is perfect. The Spicy Tuna Roll is excellent. The Salmon Roll is marvelous. This is a really great Sushi Spot, and the Party Tray option they had on the menu, was very convenient. I absolutely recommend Sushi Boy, for people that want some Sushi. The rolls taste great, and I'm happy. I will definitely come back again. Thank you very much Sushi Boy. read more

Incredible value and decent taste. That about sums it up. The sushi and bowls aren't the best I've ever had, but Sushi Boy in Torrance has survived for a long time as a reliable and inexpensive fix for cheap Japanese food. If I had to pinpoint my opinion on the food here, it would be better than anything you can get at a Japanese supermarket (and cheaper too!), but not as good as something you can get at a restaurant. The fish was decent on the salmon and tuna rolls and nigiri, but the rice had too much vinegar caked in, making it a bit mushy and overpowering. The bowls were both good, but looked a bit haphazard with tiny pieces of veggies and oddly chopped chicken. If you're looking for something very quick, skip the Japanese market for something that's tastier and cheaper. However, you get what you pay for, so don't expect restaurant quality fish. read more

The Sushi Boy chain of restaurants is nice for getting "fast food" sushi and other sorta-Japanese food items. This time I tried an Udon noodle bowl with Teriyaki Chicken on top. The chicken came out fine. The Udon noodles were good. The light broth had a mild taste. Good. I also had the Inari, white rice wrapped in a sweet brown tofu shell. While one of the simplest varieties of sushi (if you consider it to be in the sushi family) I've always liked these little football-shaped rice balls. Service is quick and the location is clean. There is seating inside and a few tables outside if you want to deal with nearby Hawthorne Blvd traffic noise. Takeout seems to remain the most popular way to order. read more

I ordered the Ko-be (koh beh) combination, & the order was completed in about 5 minutes which is fast considering it has 3 pieces of Maguro roll, 3 of Japanese cucumber, one each of Tobiko/flying fish roe, Hamachi/yellowtail, Salmon, Maguro/tuna, Ebi/shrimp, Anago/sea eel, two kinds of Kai/clam which runs to 15 , pieces in all for $12.99. Good deal, good price. Of course at those prices, you're not going to get the same hyper quality in such places as Sushi Imai in Gardena, Mako Sushi & Tamon in Little Tokyo DTLA, Kimagure in Pasadena, Yotsuya, Go's Mart, Iki Sushi, Chiba which are all in the San Fernando Valley, also Sushi Sasabune on the Westside. However, considering the bang for the bucks to quality ratio, Sushi Boy would rate favorably. At least 3+ Yelp stars for all but the most fastidious, gourmet oriented cognoscenti. Nice minimalist small dining area you can take your Sushi combo, Tempura, Teriyaki, or take out is the way to go. No Sakè (sah keh) or Japanese beer available to pair w/ the Sushi, but you can do that by taking out & buying Sakè or beer ahead of time at nearby Nijiya, Mitsuwa, Marukai Supermarkets in the South Bay. read more

However, once I walked in, I realized it had more of a fast food feel to it. I ordered their happy hour special, which included five pieces with a variety of seafood. The rolls were spicy tuna. The meal came with miso soup, and I had a cup of water with my meal. The food tasted ok, but nothing special. Truth be told, they could have placed far more effort in their meals. It was rather bland. The miso soup was ok, but it is hard to mess up soup. The meal did its job, and filled me up for the time being. It was healthy, and I got a good portion of lean protein. First time here on May 3. Looked promising at first with their 3 choice combo since you have quite a few choices for about $13, one of which is chicken teriyaki. I always ask restaurants if the chicken teriyaki is made with white meat (aka breast) because I can't stand dark meat. So my first question to the male worker was, "is the chicken teriyaki made with white meat?" He said "yes" after hesitating for a few seconds, and that hesitation and the look on his face made me feel like he was guessing, so I then asked, "is it made with chicken breast?" Again, he said "yes" and I stupidly believed him. You can guess what happened next. When I got the food (after going up to the counter after 20 minutes because he didn't call my order out while I sat at a table for dine in ), I saw that the chicken teriyaki was leg and thigh, which made me very unhappy since the guy told me twice that they use white meat. I was hungry, so I finished the other food and then stopped by the counter on the way out. So I told that person that the next time someone asks him if the chicken teriyaki was made with white meat, he should say "no" cause I was not served white meat. He just looked at me and didn't say a word and gave the thumbs up sign like he was embarrassed. He made no offer to credit my card like other restaurants would. So, because this same thing happened to me at another restaurant several months ago, I have come to realize that there are people out there who do not know that chicken has both dark meat and white meat. There really are people who work in restaurants that actually think that chicken is white meat only. I don't know what to think about that, but I know I won't be back to this place. Oh, and the food was just okay. But if you're going here, you aren't expecting gourmet sushi or Japanese food so you may like it. read more

My mom and I came here for lunch and we got one mixed bowl and a 3 item combo with chicken teriyaki, nigiri, and mixed tempura. The portions were generous and the food came out pretty quickly. The mixed tempura was a bit more fried than usual (the color of the breading was a little darker) so I ended up peeling off some of the breading. Went to Sushi boy yesterday with my kids and it's our new go to spot in Torrance. Sushi was fresh and delicious. I had the bento box with the chicken teriyaki and sushi. Wife had tiger roll and she loved it. Kids had the Cali rolls and those were gone in a quick minute. Staff is friendly and accommodating. When my son comes in from San Diego this is his go to place, since he can't eat gluten they help him out and use the plain rice.
