The fish quality was excellent, but just about everything we ordered was from the catch of the day menu, excluding the snow crab nigiri, unagi nigiri and black cod. Really enjoyed the oshisushi style app. The blue fin tuna app was amazing, melt in your mouth, and just so pure tasting. I would skip the snow crab nigiri and cod just because I've had such better crab/cod at home in Canada. The sake was great, and also an herbaceous martini was lovely! Really enjoyed my time and food at this restaurant. I showed up on a Saturday evening, group of 5, and with no reservations. We got on the waitlist and we're seated in 35 minutes. Not too bad! We decided to walk around some while we waited. Sadly most of the stores in the area close early so there wasn't much to see. Once we were seated our waitress helped us right away and took our order. She made at least 8-10 trips to our table for more food orders, drink refills, desert order, etc. there as one small hiccup when a plate didn't come out. She went right to the back and came back with the food asap. One of the biggest surprises was on the desert menu. I've never seen pineapple upside cake on a desert menu. This is one of my favorite deserts to make at home!! It tasted great too. They also did a great job getting my wife a birthday desert. I'd come back again. read more

It was our first time at Sushi Den, we had a reservation at 8:00pm and we were seated pretty quickly after we checked in. The place was pretty dark but I think most fancy restaurants have dim atmospheres. It was our first time here so we got a bunch of stuff to try. We got recommended some things by our waiter and we definitely got it to try! We started with the miso black cod and holy Jesus this was fantastic. Miso Black Cod 9/10 - The sweet miso sauce that came with the cod was so good. This was one of our favorites of the night, the cod was perfectly cooked and juicy, paired well with the pickled daikon. Small Vegetables Tempura 7/10 - There was a good variety but there was one red bell pepper that we didn't love. My fav piece was the shitake mushroom in the front. Jalapeño Hamachi 6.5/10 - Nothing to write home about, it's refreshing but again the bell pepper kind of ruined the taste for us. It had bits of it on the fish. Wouldn't get again, but that's our preference! I think people who like bell peppers might really like it! Hamachi - 8/10 fatty, yummy. Good rice to fish ratio Sakura Salmon - 8.5/10 specialty salmon from Japan only during cherry blossom season. The texture was a bit fatty but also good chew. Tamago - 7.5/10 not too sweet and the texture was good! Big piece of egg! Seaweed added nice contrast to sweet taste. Rice on these nigiri are very yummy! Amaebi sweet shrimp - 8/10 nice texture, sweet shrimp and good chew! Amber Jack - 9/10 a little fatty with such a good chew!! So good love the texture. Seared toro - 11/10 omg the char from the searing complemented the fatty and omg it popped. So so good!!! Fried shrimp heads - 7/10 from the sweet shrimp! Yummy ! U can eat the whole head cause it's deep fried , nice snack! Overall, it was pretty good! Not everything was a banger but definitely some good stand outs! Would come back again. My husband and I came here for a date night. We were able to get seated right away, which was great because a long line formed right after us. Our wonderful server walked us through their menus (it changes daily) and what she recommended. She was incredibly knowledgeable and was amazing. I wish I remembered her name. (We were there 7/13/24 and sat at a two top in next to the sushi bar) Food: we ordered the black miso fish, calamari, four different rolls, and green tea Tiramisu. The black miso fish was the greatest appetizer. My husband and I still talk about it. The calamari is not your "typical" dish where it is fried. It was good but after the black miso fish, it came second best. We had two limited rolls and two that are on their menu. All were phenomenal. Our server recommended the green tea Tiramisu and while we were hesitant. I am a Tiramisu snob. We were so happy she did! It was delicious. The food is well worth the price. The food was very tasty definitely not as good as Japan is but very good . Their fresh fish entrees were very good. Ginny how people get excited bovee California rolls, that tia not Japanese it's an American thing. The only thing I didn't care for was the prices seemed very expensive for what it is ..and yes I know sushi isn't cheap. We had dinner for 2 and a small bottle of sake and it was over $200. My SOY-mate took me here for my Birthday! And let me tell you, the good times ROLL-ed... All jokes aside, Sushi Den is THE spot for sushi in Denver. Make the reservation, go and have an amazing meal! As it was a special occasion, my husband opted to make a reservation for the Chef's Table. Prior to ever stepping into the restaurant, we were emailed by Chef Yasu about our likes, dislikes, favorite fishes, textures, etc. I thought this was incredibly NEAT. Chef Yasu explained how he would use the answers to craft a unique one-of-a-kind menu for our coursed out meal. Spoiler alert: Chef Yasu did exactly that. For the Chef's Table, you sit at the sushi bar facing Chef Yasu. He explains how the restaurant gets their products (seafood, wasabi, soy sauce, etc.) from Japan, as well as, every dish he serves to you and why. Again, I thought this was incredibly NEAT. We had an array of delicious dishes! I'll be honest I was living in the moment so I did not write down the names of the different sashimi, nigiri and maki (photos are below). Wow, Sushi Den is officially my favorite sushi restaurant in Denver! The restaurant is so trendy with great ambiance (dim lighting). We weren't able to grab a reservation online, so we opted to arrive right when it opens. Our server, Marco, is friendly and recommended great items from the daily special. For cocktail, I ordered the Blood Orange Horizon without jalapenos. It was sweet, tart, and refreshing from the puree and lemon juice. For the table, we ordered Osaka Style Aburi sockeye salmon, Aburi Bincho Roll, Negitoro roll, Negihama roll, and two items from the daily special menu. I enjoyed everything because the fish is so fresh and literally melted in my mouth. It's definitely comparable to some high end sushi joints in LA! Aburi Toro (5/5) - The fattiness of the tuna was well balanced with the slight char from the searing. Hotate (5/5) - The scallops nigiri were plump and slightly sweet. Amazing if you love fresh scallops. Miso Black Cod (5/5) - Well-marinated tender black cod that flakes easily Duck Udon (4/5) - Hearty bowl of udon with various types of mushrooms, fatty duck pieces, and seaweed. The udon also comes with a side salad. The udon was good but everything else I had were standouts. The service was excellent and the bartender was very attentive. Food was ok but the price was not worth the quality. It is like 15-20$ a roll and comparing it to other places I have been, it was just not as good. My favorite food is sushi so I am quite picky on quality. I just thought it was weird that my rolls were all warm. Usually, if something is cooked like the tempura or eel, that one ingredient is warm and then everything else is cold. Our server was really nice and the ambiance was good too. We get that SD is a for-profit enterprise with literally many mouths to feed! If you are a couple looking for a table to eat at (vs. bar), based on our experience you may want to look elsewhere. The last two times we ate there, both times we were initially seated at cramped tables tightly packed next to 10-person tables. Those at the 10-person tables appeared to enjoy themselves. At the two person cramped tables placed right next to walls, we experienced: - 10 people speaking so loudly that we were unable to hear ourselves speak - wait staff regularly brushing our shoulders and chairs as they navigated the tight service lanes - balancing plates and service wear on the tiny tables The first time we had this experience, we had arrived later in the evening so when we asked to be reseated, they offered the bar. We accepted and the bartender was very nice. Also, we could hear each other and enjoyed the service. When we returned, we were offered a two person table, next to wall and 10-person table. We did not sit, but asked host for an alternative table to avoid our prior experience. We were offered the opportunity to wait without any sense of for how long. We left and found a really good alternative. Management called the next day to offer us a $50 discount on our next meal. That was 10 months ago and we will not return. Too bad for us as we used to like SD - when we could get a decent table. read more
