Came here with a group of friends for their HH tasting menu. Kona has been a staple in the Denver area for us millenials who grew up here. I remember the days where we would come almost every weekend before hitting the bars downtown. I haven't been back in a very, very long time,so I was happy to meet up with some friends here. We pretty much ordered everything on the tasting menu so everyone could try a bite of every dish. The steaks were not bad, but I'd prefer the pasta and sushi over those entrees. The house field salad and the chopped salad had more variety over the Asian salad. One of my friends raves about the carrot cake here and the manager even said some guests order it for their wedding cake! So I'd highly recommend ordering that. The brownies were good, but quite sweet, and same for the chocolate cake. Cheese cake was not bad. Overall a great experience to try out their new tasting menu and a great place to meet up with a group. The service was quick and attentive. I also like that you can pay at the table and split the tab as you wish. read more

I used to frequent this location often, but somehow stopped coming--and now I remember why. With Christmas approaching, the mall was extremely busy, and there weren't many restaurants offering full table service. There was a short wait, but we were seated fairly quickly. Our server came by promptly, and we were able to place our order without any issues. The main problem was the drinks. My Kona Big Wave took quite a while to arrive and didn't show up until right before the food was served, which isn't ideal. Worse, the beer was flat. For a restaurant of this caliber, I expect better, especially when it comes to drinks. On the positive side, the food was good. The sea bass slider, served on warm Hawaiian bread, was enjoyable, and the Kona stir-fry was tasty as well. The ambiance is still nice, and overall service was good--definitely better than average. That said, the prices are quite high for the portion sizes. We spent over $60 plus tip, which felt steep for what we received. It was nice to revisit, but unless I'm desperate, I probably won't be stopping here again. read more

My experience with Kona Grill this time around was not good. When we sat down, everything came quick enough and I was excited that we had the ability to reserve a table for six at 7 o'clock on a Saturday. It was just a really good timing and we had just finished shopping. I had been to Kona Grill so many times before and I always had a wonderful time and service was always great so I was hoping we'd have a similar experience this time. At the start, I kind of sensed that this was going to be not the best service. Our water glasses were all a little dirty. But only one glass was sent back at first. And another one was requested. As this happened one person in our party presented a free appetizer coupon to our server. She ordered the wings and the server said he had to check that we could order those. She didn't like being told that there were stipulations on the type of appetizer she could order when that wasn't indicated on her free appetizer coupon. One of us ordered a Paloma. The drink was sent back because it was too weak. It was diluted to fill to the top and we could not taste much alcohol in it. So a replacement drink was ordered. That one was pretty good. So now this set the tone for the rest of the time we were there and I won't bother getting into some of the other things, but let's just say that the wings came out in the wings were great right. So everybody finishes the wings. Then I ask "hey do you guys have wipes for us because you know our fingers are sticky after eating those wings" and he's like "oh sorry we don't have wipes, but I can get you extra napkins" and I'm like "thanks". So now he clears all the monkey plates except mine cause I was getting the last wing. We place our main courses order. Four of us were splitting two dishes, the wagyu steak fried rice and macadamia chicken. The wagyu steak was very greasy and it pooled at the bottom of the plate. It also lacked flavor. I was praying for salt but we used soy sauce instead since salt shakers were not present. This made it better but still not great. The macadamia nut chicken was tasty but one person didn't like the sauce on the chicken. I thought it was solid. One person ordered a sushi roll to see how they liked sushi. He didn't love it but said it tasted the way it should. The last person enjoyed his food. But on the iceberg salad he had to request more bacon because there was so little on it. At this point I was getting annoyed because it was taking too long for him to grab another plate. My water was never refilled. But on the other side of the table their water was constantly refilled. My monkey dish from the first course was still sitting there after all of the other dishes had been removed. All in all it came off as lazy serving to me. I get that I'm a little further back but come on. Because I've been here so many times I'm able to count this as a one off. But sheesh. Nothing went right. I guess the host stand went efficiently. And it's a beautiful restaurant. read more

We we're visiting Cherry Creek Mall, and thought we would once again try this upscale restaurant for lunch. We each ordered a salad and thought the food itself was very good. Service was slow. We spelt sort of sorry for our waiter who is the only one on the floor. My salad came out a good 20 minutes after the first salad arrived. We found the music to be annoyingly loud. This place was popping but our waiter explained everything to us as this was our first time at this location. We ended up trying 5 of the rolls and each one was amazing. I'd recommend the Kona Favorites and also their big wave beer. Be prepared tho, this place is pricy for just getting rolls. read more

The service was unbelievably slow -- one of us didn't even get their meal until the very end, and we had to pack it up to go because it took so long. I rarely write Yelp reviews, but this experience was bad enough that it deserves one. The problems started almost immediately. Despite the restaurant being slow, we sat for an uncomfortably long time before anyone greeted our table. When a server finally approached, the interaction felt completely transactional--no warmth, no hospitality, just going through the motions. Unfortunately, the real issues started once we began observing what was happening around us. Our table was seated next to the open kitchen, which gave us a clear view of the line and expo area. What we saw was honestly shocking. The Executive Chef was repeatedly putting his hands in his mouth while expediting food. I watched line cooks eating while standing on the line preparing dishes. At one point, our own server casually grabbed food out of the expo window and ate it in plain sight of guests. If that's what's happening when guests can see it, I can only imagine what's happening when they can't. I should have trusted my instincts and walked out, but I stayed because I didn't want to make a scene in front of my daughter. Unfortunately, the food didn't help redeem the situation. The quality was mediocre at best, and the portion sizes--especially the sushi--were laughably small for the price. It genuinely felt like the restaurant was cutting corners by skimping on the fish. The final straw was listening to our server openly argue with other staff members about side work in the middle of the dining room. It was loud enough that multiple tables could hear it, and it made it abundantly clear that the guest experience was the last thing on anyone's mind. Between the lack of hospitality, questionable food safety practices, and underwhelming food, this place is operating far below what any guest should expect--especially at these prices. I want to share an experience I had at Kona Grill today (April 7th around 2:45 PM) that was honestly very disappointing. I stopped in intending to apply for a position and simply wanted to ask if I could leave my resume or briefly speak with a manager. Before I could even finish my sentence, the hostess immediately cut me off and said, "Nope, not how it works," in a very dismissive tone. I politely asked if I could still leave my resume, and she refused. I then asked if a manager might be available for a quick introduction, and without even checking, I was told, "Nope, not happening, he's busy." The restaurant was very slow at the time, which made the interaction feel even more dismissive. Her tone felt extremely condescending, and the way I was spoken to honestly left me so uncomfortable I was on the verge of tears. At that point, I asked to speak with a manager not even about the job anymore, but to address how I was being treated and she still refused. When I asked for her name, she told me it was "Ellie." I later confirmed through a friend who works there that her name is actually Fernanda. I completely understand that there are hiring processes and preferred channels for applications, but there is still a way to communicate that with basic professionalism and respect. As someone who works in a client-facing industry, I value communication, and this interaction did not reflect that at all. I'm sharing this not just out of frustration, but because first impressions matter for both guests and potential employees. I hope this is addressed so future interactions are handled with more professionalism and courtesy. read more

I hadn't been to Kona Grill in a while, so I stopped in with a friend for a drink and nibble. I was surprised at how pricey things were for small items. (An example--potstickers for $25.) We had one drink each and split a crunchy tuna roll, salmon crudo, and a side of mac and cheese. The tuna roll was good but small. The salmon crudo wasn't very special. Our mac and cheese was good but would have been better hot. Our server forgot to bring it to us, and when we asked and said it could be canceled, he told us not to worry and brought out the lukewarm cast iron. While friendly, the attentiveness of our server took a nose-dive since he didn't check in with us once we had our sushi. I understand the rising food costs; however, over $100 for 2 drinks, a side dish, a small roll, and an appetizer is too much to me, especially if the price isn't met with memorable dishes and/or quality service. read more

I've been to Kona Grill several times over the years and usually enjoyed it, but this visit was really disappointing. We came in for a late lunch, and the pacing of the meal was completely off. We ordered a sushi entrée as an appetizer, which may have caused some confusion? but it still didn't arrive until after we had completely finished our entrees -- and that was even after a long delay because my teriyaki had to be recooked. The chicken was omitted entirely from the teriyaki, and the dish that came out looked so sad that it really should have been caught before it ever left the kitchen. The server then just brought a chopped up chicken breast after 10 minutes so then the sad veggies were cold. I did ask for it to be remade. When the teriyaki finally came back with the chicken added, it still wasn't great. For $30, it tasted like a frozen Birdseye stir‑fry with a few pieces of fresh broccoli tossed in. Nothing special at all. We were also charged for the late appetizer, though the server did correct it when we pointed it out. At this point my husband was basically done with his French dip which was very good -- but overall it didn't feel like a $70 lunch for two. No one offered to make things right or even acknowledge the issues. I've had great meals here before, so I'm not sure what happened, but this visit really missed the mark and I don't think I'll be back. read more

The Happy Hour is decent, the people are typically interesting to talk to and have an array of different careers. The prices could be better, but it is CC Mall so there's that. I had been to Kona Grill years ago and it was a sushi bar. And all over the wall it's a sushi, but I went in there and I got the menu and there's one third of one side that sushi and not even great sushi the whole other side of the menu is drinks and then 2/3 of other food so I realized that I was not gonna get sushi and ordered the $19 lunch special. I ordered the chicken sandwich couldn't even take a bite out of the chicken. It was so hard I gave it back. They took $10 off my meal and so I got french fries and a brownie for nine Dollars. I will never go back and everybody should know that it is not a sushi place. read more

He warmly welcomed us and suggested the dishes we ended up choosing. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The Summer Kool-Aid drink was excellent, but the watermelon margarita was even better! We had avocado egg rolls, and those were great but they were small and 20.00. My husband had waygu beef fried rice, he said he didn't find the quality of the beef to be at all in like with waygu beef. Then I had the Asian salad with chicken, and it was like 30 bucks for a salad that was drenched in dressing. We then got the most expensive piece of tiny cheesecake to take home. So this is an interesting review for me to write. The Kona Grill is a big chain, and that definitely moderates my expectations. But they are part of the same restaurant group as STK, and their entrance at the Cherry Creek Mall looks great. Inside, it's drafty and in desperate need of a facelift. The food was fine. Had the clam chowder, the Wagyu fried rice and the Macadamia Chicken. I was going to have a frozen margarita, but settled for on the rocks because their frozen machine was potentially iffy. All the food was fine, the chowder with it's coconut milk and lemongrass was particularly good. The wait staff were so nice! And they seem to have some good deals. read more

Just had happy hour for the first time and it's a pretty solid deal with their 3,6,9 menu. Tasty margarita and Crystal got a "kosmopolitan". We got the meatballs which we had gotten a one of their events before so we knew they were a solid choice over the mashed potato's of course. We also got a sushi roll it was a crunch roll very tasty lots of flavor and good texture and fresh. And last but not least which is such a crazy deal is the cheeseburger with lettuce tomato and pickles and a side of fries for $6 which I was shocked at the price especially for being a solid quality! Crystal especially loves tomato and lettuce on her burger and she loved that it was an excellent quality veggies fresh and crispy and it really brought the burger together. All of this came to about $50 which is pretty great for the amount of food we had and we also got drinks too. This was a fun stop for us being shopping around the cherry creek mall to look for some outfits for our evening out later that night. Definitely will keep them in mind for grabbing a bite before or after shopping and especially for their happy hour deals. I would love to also note that our server was fantastic. She was very friendly and kind and fast and hard working and helped make our day even better. The music was also just right and sets a fun vibe before going into the mall to shop! It was so tasteless & the shrimp tasted nasty & old. I reordered a salad which was just barely ok. I don't know how you stay in business with the food you serve. Tip: if you're there to drink, order two drinks as soon as you see a server. This may be the slowest bar I've ever seen. Good drinks, but if you're dropping a few hundred for dinner like we did, it's disappointingly slow. You start with an appetizer, entree and dessert for $39 ea which is not bad. Loved the chocolate cake, the cheesecake looked good but I didn't try. This also comes with glass of wine or champagne. The selection was not bad - Chardonnay, Pinot Noir or moscato. Ambiance is nice here even it being technically attached to the mall it's a dark and edgy kind of vibe. They also had sushi but none of us tried. Waiter was attentive and pleasant and we got seated right away with resy for a Sunday night. Will definitely try again. read more
