Kitsune Udon Omakase sushi platter (Chef's choice)
    Justice M.

Asaka is consistently delicious and affordable. Their service is always friendly and it has a welcoming, casual atmosphere. Most recently, I tried their Kitsune Udon which was great for a cold, winter evening. The broth was refreshing but flavorful. The tofu was slightly sweet which did throw me off. I'm not sure if I would try that dish specifically again but my goal is to try all of their vegetarian offerings. In general, I always enjoy dining here. For those who love sushi, the prices and quality are unmatched. My boyfriend loved everything he ordered and you can see how generous those portion sizes are. He ordered the omakase sushi platter (chef's choice) and had no complaints.

Really fresh fish for sushi. This is my favorite spot in Indy for nirigiri and hand rolls. Long wait for table unless you line up a few minutes before they open on Friday/Saturday. The food is totally worth it despite being up to an hour for the sushi to come out. I have to get a few appetizers to snack on (the octopus salad and fried squid are my faves!) The prices during happy hour is great. It is Smaller/cozy space for a restaurant. I would come more frequently if I didn't have to block out an evening each time I go.

Very fresh and tasty with generous servings. There was a line to get in before 5pm! The table service felt a little random. A couple of tables that were seated after us had their drink and food orders taken & delivered before us. But overall, thank you! The food was delicious!

TL;DR: Great little hole in the wall Japanese restaurant, will 100% go again and would go out of my way to specifically go here. Food: Food was awesome. We ordered the tatsuda-age, three sushi rolls, 2 tamago, a katsu curry, and an extra miso. Tatsuda-age had a nice crispy breading without being oily, tamago was extremely good, and I loved the katsu curry (100% recommend if you like Japanese curry). Cost: Cost was awesome, especially with the happy hour sushi. Two people was $40 and honestly we ordered too much. Ambiance: Bit of a hole on the wall restaurant, but I tend to like this style of place. Nothing fancy and could definitely use a coat of paint. Service: Nothing special but no complaints either. Food seems to be made fresh so it took awhile to get everything, but all the hot things came out hot. Not exactly service related but do be warned that this place can fill up fast. We arrived 10 minutes after opening and there were maybe 2-3 tables empty, by the time we left, there was a line of 3-4 groups out the door waiting for tables to open up. Overall: 100% will go again. Food was good and a surprisingly reasonable price. I wish I would have found this place long ago.

This place opens at 5pm and there are literally people lined up waiting for the doors to open. You know it's going to be the real deal, authentic Japanese when you see the Japanese people filing into this restaurant. THE BEST sashimi you will find anywhere, trust me! Japanese quality and freshness with American portions -- best of both worlds!

I can't believe I hadn't been to this restaurant in all my years living in Indy! 10/10 you must try it. Great vibe in the restaurant, cozy, enough space, private. Awesome cocktails. Really great happy hour sushi deals. Quality good. Clean restrooms. Good customer service.

I went here to celebrate just booking a plane ticket back to Japan! Asaka came highly recommended from friends and it did not disappoint . I went on a Sunday which meant they didn't have their sushi menu but the offerings on their regular menu were extensive and it wasn't an issue. I ordered a chirashi bowl and my friend and I split the pickled vegetables as well. My dish came with a salad and another small side dish of thinly sliced carrots and cabbage. The chirashi bowl was giant and so tasty! The service was great and our waitress was friendly. The restaurant was full which is always a good sign! Next time I want to try the seafood ramen! I loved the traditional style room, the sushi bar, and how cozy the main seating area felt. I am so excited to go back here and try more items on their menu! This spot definitely moved up to number one out of my list of Japanese restaurants in Indy! I also stopped by One World market afterwards to stock up on some goodies to take home!

I have been going to Asaka since 2016. Cannot believe it's been this long. Anyway! Gotta love going to Asaka on Sunday! Their poke is the best deal. It's a bowl full of fish - generous portion and a very good deal with miso soup and salad. Follow Instagram to know special menu! I was the first customer today but I'm so glad, almost all the tables are occupied when I left.

Great service! We made a reservation for 10 people and put in our sushi orders beforehand so the wait wasn't long.

They say first impressions are key and well... let's just say I won't be coming here again. The place is rather crowded and too many decorative items all over. Doesn't make it feel comfortable but ya rather the opposite. There many also is too busy. A lot of the food items have fancy names, but once you read the description... there's only like one difference between it and another item if any difference at all. The food is good I'll give them that, but the service was also the opposite. They seemed scattered. The appetizers took forever to arrive and one of our parties entrees took forever to arrive also. Do better guys!

This is by far my favorite sushi place in all of Indianapolis. The food quality is pristine. The service is great. I love that it's no reservations, so you can always walk in within the hour. It is 100% worth the trip from where-ever you are in Indiana. amazing happy hour specials. Love that's it's a father daughter restaurant and a true family buisness. My number 1 sushi place in Indy. I go at least once every 6 weeks.

Went on a ramen date for my niece's 14th birthday! She loves ramen and Manga art. So what better choice then to go to Asaka Japanese Restaurant. This space was a lot larger then I expected but still rather intimate and pleasantly quiet and not too noisy. Introvert Approved. When we entered around 7 PM we had to write our name down and party size on the waiting list and then they recommended that you stay nearby or in your car outside to wait to be called. Just a tip: there are no same day reservations, so call for reservations a day ahead. It wasn't an issue for us however to wait, gave me more time to visit and catch up with my oldest niece and talk about the menu. She is way more adventurous at food then I am! So she explored a few things. The fried oysters, fried squid tentacles, and California sushi rolls were her choices for appetizers. Then she selected a chilled ramen entree that included shrimp as the main protein (my niece doesn't eat pork). Most of the ramen or noodles include pork and pork broth, and no substitutions can be made on meat for these items. I selected the Miso Ramen with the help of our hostess' recommendation for a more savory broth. And I personally eat pork on occasion. I added spicy paste on the side to add the amount of spice I wanted to it gradually. Overall, it was a nice setting, we were able to take our time enjoying our meal, after being seated (overall wait time was around 40-45 min) on a Saturday night for our party of 2, walk-ins. We were seated at a longer table available in the back of restaurant. Once again, great for small talk and not too much noise. The food was rather tasty. Ample portions and even better prices. My niece liked her fried squid tentacles the most. Of all things lol! Love her adventurous nature. The menu prices were extremely reasonable compared to other comparable restaurants and service was good too. Make sure to support and tip these special local gems that bring such true Japanese culture and flavor. I loved how there was authentic artwork, Manga, and soft music in this environment. 02/11/23 - Jackie M.

They sell just about everything imaginable for Japanese cooking, including sashimi grade fish. I also saw Japanese beers and liquors. Meals made to order start at 11:00 am. They make sushi, noodle and rice dishes. We picked up several bento style boxes to share. There are a number of cafe tables inside and outside to eat after you purchase your food. We ate inside. There is a convenient microwave to warm-up prepackaged cold foods. The gyoza were filled with pork and bits of cabbage. The gyoza disappeared quickly. Emi ten Tomagoto ji pre (shrimp tempura over rice) was our favorite dish. The rice was cooked with eggs and onion and just delicious. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. I would definitely order this again. The spicy bomb inari was filled with strips of meat and a spicy sauce. The only complain was that the wrapper was soggy from sitting in the deli case. I can't wait to back to try a udon bowl. The food is fresh and delicious. There is plenty of parking in their share lot.

It looks like some things have been moved around, and I found the Grab & Go section being located on the food court side a little unusual. It was also extremely cold at the food court which made the experience less comfortable. Unfortunately, everything was fine until I went to check out. The older woman working at the register, who appeared to be around 65-70 yrs old was extremely rude and unprofessional. The way I was treated made me feel like I shouldn't have even come to the store. After driving three hours to visit a place I really love, that was incredibly disappointing. I have always loved this store and was genuinely happy to be able to come back. However, after this experience, I don't feel comfortable returning if I have to be treated that way. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the way customers are being treated. I would hate for one employee's behavior to ruin the experience of an otherwise great store.

Having to cook for six of the 4th grader boys that had sat at my table. They had wanted to try everything so they ended up ordering just about everything on the menu. At first I was like this is going to be a lot of money but then I remembered it is one set price for everything. So for instance you pay $17.99 for kids during lunch time and 36.99 for an adult. It was nice you could get anything you wanted and as much as you wanted but be mindful you do have to cook it. Also they do have a time limit on how long you can sit at the table. You definitely should be mindful to not waste food because if they notice you are wasting they will charge. We didn't waster but I did see the signs up. I loved how they had a desert bar.
