    Katsu curry

TL;DR: Great little hole in the wall Japanese restaurant, will 100% go again and would go out of my way to specifically go here. Food: Food was awesome. We ordered the tatsuda-age, three sushi rolls, 2 tamago, a katsu curry, and an extra miso. Tatsuda-age had a nice crispy breading without being oily, tamago was extremely good, and I loved the katsu curry (100% recommend if you like Japanese curry). Cost: Cost was awesome, especially with the happy hour sushi. Two people was $40 and honestly we ordered too much. Ambiance: Bit of a hole on the wall restaurant, but I tend to like this style of place. Nothing fancy and could definitely use a coat of paint. Service: Nothing special but no complaints either. Food seems to be made fresh so it took awhile to get everything, but all the hot things came out hot. Not exactly service related but do be warned that this place can fill up fast. We arrived 10 minutes after opening and there were maybe 2-3 tables empty, by the time we left, there was a line of 3-4 groups out the door waiting for tables to open up. Overall: 100% will go again. Food was good and a surprisingly reasonable price. I wish I would have found this place long ago.

This place opens at 5pm and there are literally people lined up waiting for the doors to open. You know it's going to be the real deal, authentic Japanese when you see the Japanese people filing into this restaurant. THE BEST sashimi you will find anywhere, trust me! Japanese quality and freshness with American portions -- best of both worlds!

I can't believe I hadn't been to this restaurant in all my years living in Indy! 10/10 you must try it. Great vibe in the restaurant, cozy, enough space, private. Awesome cocktails. Really great happy hour sushi deals. Quality good. Clean restrooms. Good customer service.

I have been going to Asaka since 2016. Cannot believe it's been this long. Anyway! Gotta love going to Asaka on Sunday! Their poke is the best deal. It's a bowl full of fish - generous portion and a very good deal with miso soup and salad. Follow Instagram to know special menu! I was the first customer today but I'm so glad, almost all the tables are occupied when I left.

I went here to celebrate just booking a plane ticket back to Japan! Asaka came highly recommended from friends and it did not disappoint . I went on a Sunday which meant they didn't have their sushi menu but the offerings on their regular menu were extensive and it wasn't an issue. I ordered a chirashi bowl and my friend and I split the pickled vegetables as well. My dish came with a salad and another small side dish of thinly sliced carrots and cabbage. The chirashi bowl was giant and so tasty! The service was great and our waitress was friendly. The restaurant was full which is always a good sign! Next time I want to try the seafood ramen! I loved the traditional style room, the sushi bar, and how cozy the main seating area felt. I am so excited to go back here and try more items on their menu! This spot definitely moved up to number one out of my list of Japanese restaurants in Indy! I also stopped by One World market afterwards to stock up on some goodies to take home!

Great service! We made a reservation for 10 people and put in our sushi orders beforehand so the wait wasn't long.

This is by far my favorite sushi place in all of Indianapolis. The food quality is pristine. The service is great. I love that it's no reservations, so you can always walk in within the hour. It is 100% worth the trip from where-ever you are in Indiana. amazing happy hour specials. Love that's it's a father daughter restaurant and a true family buisness. My number 1 sushi place in Indy. I go at least once every 6 weeks.

They say first impressions are key and well... let's just say I won't be coming here again. The place is rather crowded and too many decorative items all over. Doesn't make it feel comfortable but ya rather the opposite. There many also is too busy. A lot of the food items have fancy names, but once you read the description... there's only like one difference between it and another item if any difference at all. The food is good I'll give them that, but the service was also the opposite. They seemed scattered. The appetizers took forever to arrive and one of our parties entrees took forever to arrive also. Do better guys!

Went on a ramen date for my niece's 14th birthday! She loves ramen and Manga art. So what better choice then to go to Asaka Japanese Restaurant. This space was a lot larger then I expected but still rather intimate and pleasantly quiet and not too noisy. Introvert Approved. When we entered around 7 PM we had to write our name down and party size on the waiting list and then they recommended that you stay nearby or in your car outside to wait to be called. Just a tip: there are no same day reservations, so call for reservations a day ahead. It wasn't an issue for us however to wait, gave me more time to visit and catch up with my oldest niece and talk about the menu. She is way more adventurous at food then I am! So she explored a few things. The fried oysters, fried squid tentacles, and California sushi rolls were her choices for appetizers. Then she selected a chilled ramen entree that included shrimp as the main protein (my niece doesn't eat pork). Most of the ramen or noodles include pork and pork broth, and no substitutions can be made on meat for these items. I selected the Miso Ramen with the help of our hostess' recommendation for a more savory broth. And I personally eat pork on occasion. I added spicy paste on the side to add the amount of spice I wanted to it gradually. Overall, it was a nice setting, we were able to take our time enjoying our meal, after being seated (overall wait time was around 40-45 min) on a Saturday night for our party of 2, walk-ins. We were seated at a longer table available in the back of restaurant. Once again, great for small talk and not too much noise. The food was rather tasty. Ample portions and even better prices. My niece liked her fried squid tentacles the most. Of all things lol! Love her adventurous nature. The menu prices were extremely reasonable compared to other comparable restaurants and service was good too. Make sure to support and tip these special local gems that bring such true Japanese culture and flavor. I loved how there was authentic artwork, Manga, and soft music in this environment. 02/11/23 - Jackie M.

Asaka has my vote for best sushi in Indy. The fish was fresh and high quality and the rolls were amazing. They have happy hour Thursday - Saturday from 5-7 PM which makes everything very affordable. Highly recommend the takoyaki as an appetizer - fresh, crunchy and super flavorful. From the happy hour menu you can't go wrong, you are limited to two happy hour rolls per customer though. Highlights were the funky shrimp fry roll and the spicy salmon roll. Off the regular sushi menu, the fire fire roll was fantastic. Our favorite roll of the night and would highly recommend. The hand rolls were good, but not as good as the sushi. Overall amazing food with a good ambiance. Service can be slow because the rolls are made fresh. Would recommend going on Saturday for happy hour for the best experience.

This is their happy hour menu.

Visited again, got a reservation this time, still just as good. The service can be a little slow at times, but they really care a lot. Remembering to attach a photo this time. Food quality and prices are still amazing for happy hour. The Meesh roll has wasabi mayo that is very strong, it's not for the weak (it's me I'm weak). The BEST hand roll is the fried red snapper with spicy mayo.

What a great place! I've been meaning to come for awhile and just had the chance to check them out. They are located off of 82nd, I got there at 530 on a Friday and they are slammed which I am glad to see. I had to wait about 15 minutes, then I was seated in one of the side rooms. The menu set up is great, you just check off the rolls you would like, they have sashamni and nigiri options as well. I started with miso soup which is delicious, and savory, and I also had a Sapporo beer which I love to have when I get sushi. I got and assortment of different rolls and sashimi, every thing was fresh, flavorful and delicious! They have a happy hour special every day on sushi rolls. Check this place out, if you like sushi you'll enjoy!

Update- if you pay with cash you get a discount! (In addition to the HH price) Also the wait is still very long!

The fish was so fresh, and you could genuinely taste the nori, which makes a huge difference. We branched out and tried the Kumamoto oysters too. Worth it. They're tinier than your typical oyster and came with a range of flavors from the seasonings and sauces. Honestly, we wish they'd been served more simply because we wanted to compare them to the ones we've had in Japan, and all the sauce made that tough. Still a fun order though. Skip the Seafood Pot, in our opinion. It tasted like Bird's Nest to us and just wasn't anything special compared to everything else. Bottom line: come for the sushi. It's the standout, and it's what'll bring us back. With ramen, hibachi, bubble tea, and a full bar also on the menu, there's plenty to explore on a return visit.

All of my loved ones were there to celebrate my birthday, and paired with such amazing food it made it a magical night. It was a Tuesday night and was fairly busy, but we passed any downtime chatting with each other and sipping on cocktails. The owner, Nara, is SO kind, sweet, gracious, I could go on and on. You can tell she really loves her job and running a business. The staff were so attentive for such a large party and made sure we always had fresh cocktails, water refills, and empty plates were removed promptly. We had vegetarians, peanut allergies, and picky eaters, but they accommodated everyone. I think my husband and I ended up splitting 5 sushi rolls total (still dreaming of them) and the table pretty much split multiple appetizers across the board. Everyone loved their cocktails, appetizers, and entrees. When I thanked Nara for such an amazing dinner and let her know it was my first time dining there and that it was my birthday she brought out a round of lychee sake shots for the table and started playing a happy birthday song throughout the restaurant. Literally almost cried because it was so sweet and thoughtful. The sake was crazy delicious and a hit for the whole table. The only *minor* downside was that each cocktail was made individually by what seemed to be just one bartender, so it took some time for drinks to come out. Again, otherwise a perfect meal, but keep that in mind and be patient for drinks to come out! My husband and I's favorite sushi haunt has always been Mori Sushi before now, but now I cannot wait to come back to Hasuno for more amazing appetizers and sushi rolls!!! They have a small parking lot that fills up fast, but there is always lots of street parking in fountain square. It's a great spot for dinner and easily walkable to other spots for nightcaps to end the evening.

Let's start with price- yes it's a little pricey. But I understand they are making up for the cost of the downtown location. Definitely a place to go on special occasions if your budget is not set up to splurge here. Would love to see a happy hour menu here so more people can try the food. Next is the quality of the food, which IMO, justifies the price. "Less is more" is so important when it comes to sushi rice. I love being able to get sushi and not feel so full because the minimally necessary amount of rice was used and doesn't leave you full after one roll. All of the special rolls we liked in the following order. 1) Bonfire 2) Orange Blossom 3) Cherry Blossom 4) Trish 5) Emperor 6)Thursday The miso soup was perfect and priced at $3. The drinks and gyoza were good too, but not too special. I would definitely save my appetizer/beverage $ for the rolls. We ordered smoked salmon, hamachi, and scallop sashimi. Scallop was our favorite for the sashimi, but all were amazing. The star (and priciest) of our dinner we did not capture, but it was the Maduro Nigiri. The quality was very good and fatty, I thought it tasted like Hara-naka. Service was great. No wait. 10 out of 10 recommend.

I'm not a fan of raw sushi, so I always get the sweet potato roll and/or the stop 11 roll. We ordered DoorDash last night and added the tomago roll and it will be added to my favorites at Sushi Club. The stop 11 roll was all gone before I could snap a picture, but there are pictures uploaded by other users. Note: I do substitute soy wrapper instead of seaweed and I add cream cheese to the tomago and sweet potato rolls. It's $2 extra but well worth it. As far as pricing goes, when you order DoorDash there is a slight up-charge, but it's still fair pricing. We got three rolls for $40 with tip and service fees. Three people ate, so overall not a bad deal. If you want to dine in, they do offer AYCE made to order appetizers and sushi. The restaurant itself is no frills, but it's a good bargain if you can eat a good amount of food.
