Having been a frequent customer now for some time, we have found the customer service used to be good, but has suffered with the frequent turn over in staff. Today stopped by for lunch had nice table in window and was forced to move as a guy stopped by to clean the windows. All that dirty water spraying around the food. Cleaning should be done during off hours not while your customers are eating and inconvenienced. This place still has ok sushi, but the service and the cooked food is becoming less palatable. ... Last teview The rolls are inconsistent and the rice can sometimes be dry. But I would recommend the Marilyn monroll for the amount and quality of the fish (but not the rice covering it) The teriyaki is where I am most disappointed, it is too frequently rubbery and flavor is lacking. But I will hope that they try to improve and will still go as a loyal client, but if a better place that offered a better product, I think I don't think I could stay loyal. read more

I tried out their sushi during their soft opening and a few days ago. I have to say it's a lot better than the one that's close by and their seafood like salmon is pretty fresh. The price seems reasonable for what u get I guess. Just the special rolls i find some aren't so worth it. Like I tried their New York roll. It was the size of California rolls that they have and yet they charge u like 7 or 8 bucks for like 8 pieces. It's also run by Koreans. (Ya, what's new?) I never sat in the restaurant but the place looks pretty small. But a good location though. No real big competitors. I would suggest to give it a shot but I know for sure I would go back there for sushi because it is the best ones around that area. (Sad how i do work around there. So not choice) read more

My favourite Sushi joint in Vancouver! I'm a fan of Sushi Zero One,but after finding this place I'm converted. Cheap and quick, but also delicious. This place just opened up recently, to an area in need of a good sushi eat in restaurant. Our usual staples are dynamite roll, spicy salmon, salmon sashimi. Other sushi places mince their salmon in the spicy salmon roll, but this place has actual chunks of good salmon, quality! Definitely a place worth trying! read more

This is a "week night" sushi spot for me - the Dominoes of sushi ... Not especially good but also not bad and priced well. Would not dress up and go on a date here. This is a very busy place which comforts me that the fish must be fresh due to the turnover of tables. The rolls are sloppy and too much rice for my liking yet I still come back as the fish is good. I can also solve my roll dilemma by ordering the tuna tataki or kitsune udon, both rice-less and above average tasting! read more

Got the giant veggie bento box for under $10. When my boyfriend orders three rolls, and my bento box plate is that much large I know I've ordered too much food. The tempura was great, and yam rolls were really large. This place has really nice atmosphere. The chefs and waitresses seem really friendly, and the decor is nice. My biggest disappointment was the tea which was not hot. It was cold? Come on guys! This place can be cheap if you go for the combo, just be hungry, or have an already large stomach. read more

The staff here are are so friendly and accommodating to families with small children. Food comes quickly and you're not left for long periods of time wondering what has happened to the servers. We had the chicken yakiudon and dx combo. The udon was ordered because my 2 yr old wanted noodles. They were okay. For the $8 it was a good portion size, lots of dark meat chicken and cabbage. The noodles were fresh but the sauce was a little bland. It could have used some more flavour. Our dx combo was really big and it came with a miso soup. The pieces of nigiri sushi were twice the size I was expecting. Definitely good value. Looking to our neighbours, their sashimi plate looked like really old portion sizes but I noticed the fish looked really thick. I prefer my sashimi on the thinner side. Went to sushi den last night for the first time in about a year. I think it's just your typical Korean-run sushi place (at least I think they're Korean). The bento-y combos are a pretty good deal and the special rolls aren't too expensive either. Service was not that good but I don't go into most sushi places expecting good service, I never order chicken karage but I did last night to share with my friends, and though it was not the karage I was thinking of it was quite good! Not at all oily and came with refreshing salad. If you're in the area and don't wanna go somewhere expensive (such as Wild Rice) or a place with long waits (like phnohm penh), this place is a pretty safe choice. read more

The sushi here wasn't awful, but it wasn't great. I grabbed a quick bite here after class because it was nearby. I ordered the roll and nigiri combo which came with a dynamite roll, a spicy salmon roll, three types of nigiri sushi, and miso soup. The first thing I noticed was that the rice tasted really bland, which impacted the flavor of the rolls. The second thing I noticed was that there was a weird aftertaste to the salmon that I was not a fan of. The nigiri was decent and the dynamite rolls were decent. I chose this place because from outside the restaurant looked full and had clean warm decor. The service was also quick. $12 for all of that sushi seemed like a deal. But, I probably wouldn't be back based on the food quality. read more

This is the sushi place closest to where I live, so whenever I want sushi and don't want to walk far, I would come here. The sushi and sashimi are fresh as always, however the rice is very inconsistent, sometimes half cooked, sometimes warm. The service can be awkward at times, ie they would bring you a pitcher of beer and then give you the cups few minutes later, leaving you wondering if you should drink up the tea and pour the beer in tea cups.... And maybe we are lucky, we never have to wait more than 5 minutes for seats, although looking down from my balcony I always see huge lineups outside of the restaurant when we are not eating there. read more

Not the best sushi, but good enough considering the portions, the price and being in a quite clean space. I see Vancouver Police having dinner here very often. Some Special rolls are huge, and not always properly prepared (easily they fall in pieces). Good grilled marinated beef ribs. I always loved buying take out here but had such a horrible experience today when we tried to eat in. We had three people but the servers forced us to sit at a table that could only sit two people. When we asked if we could switch to a bigger table so we could order more food and have enough space to put our food, the servers would not say yes yet kept rushing us to order. Solid 3 out of 5. Stumbled upon this place while walking to Gastown, decided to try it. Ordered toro, sockeye salmon, amaebi, hamachi, fluffy roll yakitori, tenzaru and a bottle of hot sake. Let's start with sushi 1st. All the sushi rated 4/5. The quality of all he fishes were really good, except amaebi (spot prawn). They used 3 shrimps for 1 sushi, image how small those were. The heads were not given to us (usually other restaurant would fry and bring them later). Rice portion was incredibly huge (I mean if you're a day laborer, you will appreciate the portion). For sushi snob, this is a NO-NO!! Fluffy roll (4/5) was ok, not even sure what's in there but again the roll was way too big to eat in just 1 bite. Yakitori (5/5) was probably the best we have tasted anywhere. It's a marinade chicken dark meat in the skewers with asparagus stem topped with teriyaki sauce. Tenzaru (2/5) cold green noodle served with cold tempura sauce. I have to say this is the only place that properly serves tenzaru anywhere we have tried. It serves with vegetable & shrimp tempura on the side. Most places would just serve cold noodle with the sauce. Only issue was the cold tempura sauce didn't taste like tempura sauce, also it had ice cubes in the sauce. Not sure if my interpretation of tenzaru that I have known all my life was wrong and they were right or this was just their own creation that they hope no one will know the difference. Anyway this is a good economy sushi place to try out. All of these cost us $60, that's really cheap. Advice to those who's new to the place, some of the servers can't speak English but very nice but the ones that speak will give you real bad attitude. I have gone here several times for take out, and the odd sit in and have never been disappointed in any way. I cannot say I know what "the best" sushi tastes like or have those spoiled taste buds talking for me, but I never once felt like I was cheated or having last night's leftovers. The portions are always great and between a bento box and a sushi order for 2, there were times we couldn't finish it all and put it in the fridge (a plus). I am a regular for sure, though there is a new place nearby that sells seawise seafood in their menus, and it tempts me away for the sustainability aspect---but Sushi Den is a better value in portions and price of course. I go between them both now depending what I order. It is not a big place though, so don't bring too many people here...no more than 5 per group. read more

This is definitely one of the best sushi restaurant you can find in the heart of Vancouver, BC. Very close to the "Stadium-Chinatown" Skytrain station, it offers a large choice of sushi varieties for a very little price, combined with a kind and fast service. The staff at sushi den are fantastic! The girls always greet you kindly at the door and their service is quick. And thats where the two stars came from. Although living in Vancouver, you can virtually find a sushi place every other block, and to be honest the food is usually pretty mediocre. Sushi den is one of them. I used to work at a nice Japanese restaurant in Yaletown, with regular customers who were even from Japan, so I believe I have a better idea of what sushi is supposed to look/ taste like. At Sushi Den the rolls mainly consist of rice that has been squished in the rolling process. Good sushi is supposed to have the right amount of rice (less is more) and you should still be able to taste the individual grains in your mouth. I have ordered unagi maki which tasted absolutely nothing like unagi (more like canned tuna tbh). The alberta roll was dry, and when I ordered chicken udon, the soup was not very flavourful either. In general I just feel like their food never impresses me. If you are going to go there I suggest getting something simple like a negitoro maki (easy rice), avocado maki, or plain sashimi etc because it's hard to mess those ones up. read more

We ordered a dinner combo for two (not 100% sure about the name though), it had 2 small udons, some nigiris, rolls (huge size:), tempuras..I went here with my bf and we both are huge fans of sushi, but we couldn't finish all the food. That was really a lot of food and they were all yummy!! we had one small sake as well, we paid about $40. service was ok, they are not super friendly nor check your table continuously, but they come to you if you ask:) I will definitely go back here if i go around that area:) read more

food is very good, cheap price for avocado rolls/affordable price for the rest! I always see this place packed so i went early when only one table was filled. Yet the waitress seats us in a 2 person table when we had 3, obviously she had to drag another chair. So in the end we asked to change places, she seemed to be very rude about it. When we asked to get a refill on water/napkins, the waitress assigned to us said okay but never came back, so we asked again&again and she still didn't bring it so we had to go up and ask, same with the bill. I live in the neighbourhood and when I need quick sushi after a workout or before work, Sushi Den is my go to. Always quick, always fresh. Miso soup on occasion is cold but it's $1.50 so I really can't complain too much. Service is decent when eating in and take out is crazy fast. If you're hungry and/or in a hurry don't go here. I decided to try this new Sushi place on Abbott and was sceptical given that most new Sushi places are slapped together and the food is usually mayo laden rice garbage. I went in, it seemed really busy, sat at the bar, and waited. And waited, and waited until someone finally took my order. As I waited food came from the kitchen and sat around for quite a while, take out orders came back complaining about the wrong order, two people complained about having had to wait too long. So finally I ordered, simple, 3 small rolls, just to test out the place. So I waited and waited and waited, 15 mins later still nothing. Take out orders that went in long after my stay-in order came and went. Turns out my order never made it, along with about 3 others waiting around. The staff seem inexperienced and totally out of their depth. My advice, if you only have an hour for lunch or less, skip it. If you think take out will be faster, forget it. If you want quality sushi that isn't made as fast as possible then skip it. Horrible place, horrible service. read more
