Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was expecting a lot from their Vento Box, considering it clocked in at a solid $27. Unfortunately for the price, it's not worth it. It tasted pretty average. I think they use some kind of carrot lox to sub smoked salmon, which is pretty cool. That's probably by the box is so expensive however. It kind of tasted "fishy" to me, but I wasn't blown away or anything... it just wasn't that creative. The mochi was probably the best part of the box. I didn't really expect it but -- damn. All in all, I probably wouldn't return to this place. Maybe try it out for the vegan options if you're curious.

Expansive vegan menu with creative options, but middle-of-the-road quality and overpriced. I ordered to go their TOY Vento Box combination from the vegan menu for a whopping $27 (plus tax), so I was expecting a generous portion of food. The box came with a Philly smoked "salmon" roll, which has avocado, cucumber, "crab" cake, and vegan salmon lox; miso soup; 6 pc of veggie tempura; 3 pc of different Nigiri (Inari, avocado, and vegan salmon); seaweed salad; and mochi (dessert). The miso and salad were standard, with the latter being a rather measly portion of seaweed on top of iceberg lettuce. The tempura was very solid, coming with a nice mix of vegetables (including broccoli and green bean). The sushi was odd -- certainly creative. The Philly roll I wasn't totally sold on -- wasn't a huge fan of the vegan crab cake or vegan smoked lox -- but it was decent. The mochi was gelatinous, with a tasty sweet red bean paste filling. Overall, tasty enough and certainly creative, but I wasn't all that impressed with anything I got and don't think it's good value for money. There are better sushi places out there, including for creative vegan sushi.

Very friendly service, clean, and most importantly, fresh fish. The rice was a little dry and the miso could've had more tofu + seaweed, but otherwise a great spot in Yaletown.

Absolutely disgusted ordered take out and not only did it take super long but to my surprise the chicken was raw on both chicken teriyaki bowls! Sadly I ate a couple pieces before noticing and now I am so sick! Disgusting and super unsafe of this restaurant to send out food under cooked especially chicken.

I've been ordering from sushi maro recently very often. I stopped for a while because I thought the quality went down but it has become my favourite sushi place again. I'd say there are inconsistencies sometimes with their sushi but most of the time it's pretty good (for the price) For my personal taste, their raw fish sometimes smells and I wouldn't order sashimi from here. But for cooked food or aburi sushi this place is a very good choice. I hope they can improve the quality of their raw fish as well, I think they might keep the fish for too long or not with the right temperature and that's why it's not the best. So depending on what you order, sushi maro can be very good and I recommend you try it!

Cheap and cheerful sushi place! I am always satisfied with my meal here and the reciept that follows! The spicy salmon is the best!! Must try!!

You pay for the location (100+$ for 2). The sushi was run of the mill. Not sure why they were being so extra with the dry ice situation with the sashimi We got the aburi set, 3 pieces assorted sashimi, and a summer side roll. Also got unagi and tobiko with quail egg nigiri (1 piece each).

I wouldn't recommend this sushi place, save your money and time, and go somewhere else. Walked in today and ordered. Upon arriving, the waitress was super friendly and sat us right away. There was only 1 other group in the restaurant as we arrived at 1130 am. Refreshments and the menu arrived immediately, which was great. I usually order the same thing at most sushi restaurants, so upon sitting, I asked for a miso soup and a tako sunomono to start while we looked through the menu. The waitress came back about 5 minutes later to ask what we would like for the rest of our meal. We ordered a summertime roll $18 a 6 piece tuna sashimi $13 yam tempura roll $5.5 Unagi Roll $8 Spider roll soft crab $12 Avacado Roll $5.75 and restated that we have already ordered the Tako Sunomono $7 and Miso soup $3. I've stated the prices to help you judge the cost of the establishment. It's not the most expensive place for sure but it's definitely more expensive than the average. After waiting about 10 minutes, the miso arrives and about 5 minutes after the Tako arrives. Oddly, I was thinking to myself why it would take so long for these items as there's a staff of 5 in the kitchen and only one other table seated. Patiently waiting nearly 30 minutes is when the waitress comes to refill my water and I had to ask what's taking so long as we've nearly waited 30 minutes for our order and she stated she would go check on it. After a minute, she came back very apologetic and stated that the order was never received and there's something wrong with the system, but they would put a rush on it right away. About 5 minutes after that, the sashimi arrived, and the rest of the food came. The food itself was sab par. Sashimi was fine, but the rolls not so much. I have been eating sushi for over 25 years, so I can definitely distinguish between quality and not. The sushi rice was cold and hard. Tasted old, as if it was reused from the previous day. Given that we were one of the first to arrive for the lunch menu, one would expect nothing but the freshest right. Wrong. The waitress brought Tempura sushi, and we said we ordered a tempura roll, so she immediately took it back and remade it. The order returned, and it was cold. Tempura rolls are normally warm as the tempura comes right off the deep fryer. The summertime roll was average given the cost and there was a shell in one of the pieces. The soft shell crab and unagi roll were tasteless as the amount of meat in each was miniscule. I'm not one to complain, I usually just won't return if I don't like a place. I complained to my girlfriend and when the waitress came back, my girlfriend told her that there wasn't much softshell crab in the sushi and her response was aww not much meat ok OK.. lol, zero lack of care. The spider roll was all batter. There was no soft shell crab. We asked for the bill and thought perhaps they would have tried to correct some of their mistakes by removing something off the bill, but nope, just apologies. Paid $75 for 2 of us and left. So do yourself a favor and go to sushi Ki Isu Japanese Restaurant just 2 minutes walk or sushi mugen. I've been to both, both are competitively priced but far superior in quality. I've added 2 pictures to show how little the crab portion of my twelve dollar spider roll was.

Salad and miso - the lettuce dressing is pretty good!

My favourite thing about Sushi Maro is that it's decent food at a decent price in Yaletown, which is hard enough to find! But the sushi I had was really just decent; I got the Roll Combo B, so there were avocado, tuna, and salmon maki rolls, and while the quantity was good for the price (18 pieces total), none of them really had great flavour or texture. I feel like they also skimped on the ginger - I love ginger at sushi places, so I'm always wanting more, but this still felt like less than average. The appetizers were miso soup - pretty standard - and an iceberg lettuce salad, which had a surprisingly nice dressing but is still ultimately iceberg lettuce. There was tea, too, which was also pretty good. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the space itself was nice! No complaints there; it's just a shame the food tasted a little bland, though I'd still go back if someone else wanted sushi and I wanted affordable food.

I was genuinely a bit surprised at all the mediocre reviews. I personally had a pretty great experience at Sushi Maro. I was looking to kill some time while waiting for my mom and realized that at 4 PM, I hadn't had lunch. So I walked into Sushi Maro and grabbed a table for myself. I sat myself at a table in the corner and my server brought over water and tea right away. They have a good selection of the regular basic rolls and also have a chef's specials list. I decided to go for one of the regular rolls: deep fried california roll and one chef's special rolls: Hawaii roll (salmon, avocado, mango, cream cheese, spicy mayo). Not even 5 minutes after I ordered, my rolls were brought out to me. Both were tasty and quickly eaten - good signs of a good dish. My server was welcoming, quick, and very excited to chat with me. Compared to other sushi restaurants in Yaletown, Sushi Maro is definitely on the cheaper end and still pretty good quality. Will be back.

$8.91 for all of this... ridiculous
    Leeza N.

Was in Yaletown on my way to work and needed a quick bite. The customer service was not that great since the restaurant was empty and the waitress decided to glare at me. For $8.91, I got a california roll and salmon maki. The california roll consisted of 6 rolls which is OUTRAGEOUS for the price considering most sushi bars will give you 8 rolls for an even cheaper price. The salmon in the maki wasn't even fresh to start with and the wait took forever. Maybe I would have a better experience if I was eating in... might come back for their happy hour.

Michelin starred quality in their service by how they explained the menu, brought out the food, came back around to refill waters. Just top notch service and elegantly so. The food was good but not of value. Their lunch set was a good introductory to what they offer. I enjoyed the food for its flavours and presentation but I thought that it was a bit overpriced. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, fresh and definitely elevated, but it was $50 for 10pcs of sushi, 2 appetizer sized samples of their appetizer or entree dishes, and miso soup (which we did not get and didn't realize till much later in the day). If you're wanting an upscale experience (and portion) of good quality food or wanting to impress other parties, then this is a nice spot. For regular eats, it's a bit too luxurious to be a casual thing in my opinion. The ambiance is nice and calm. They have a patio, which has a meh view overlooking the harbor, but beware of a breezy day. It will catch a bit of a wind tunnel. They have heaters and blankets but the heaters don't really reach unless you're sitting next to it.

At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close.
