As a Japanese person who recently moved to the states, I always have a hard time writing reviews of Japanese restaurants because none of them taste real to me. I gotta try not to be strict as it's not fair for them you know. This one wasn't really authentic either, BUT much closer to real then any other Japanese restaurants here in EP. It looks very plain outside. Just looks like a regular cheap restaurant with one way mirror windows. However the inside was very nice. Not a big restaurant but they had a few tables, booths, sushi bar and a big table for a group. ( when we went there, there were like 10 high school students sitting at the table so you can bring numbers of people. ) I ordered sushi express combo B. It came with 8 spicy tuna rolls and 4 sushi. ( chef's choice) Rolls were kinda small so it might not be enough if you usually eat a lot. Sushi was surprisingly fresh and I loved it. It was so good that I had to order more salmon sushi after I was done eating. They brought fried Gyoza, miso soup and salad with our food. Because they recently opened the restaurant, they said they are serving free Gyoza to customers. They don't know when they're gonna stop that. Gyoza was okay. My husband loved it. ( He usually doesn't like it) They need to work on their miso soup though.. After we were done eating, they brought mochi ice cream for both of us. They are also serving mochi ice cream to all the customers now! You'll get one mochi ice cream but if you order it, you'll get three. (They have 3 flavors: strawberry, green tea and vanilla) It was good! If you're looking for fresh sushi that aren't so expensive, this place is where it's at! read more

If you are searching for cheap, delicious, quick sushi... Sushi Garden is the place to go! The sushi is very filling. Right now they are doing a promotion that if you order on their website, www.sushigardenep.com, they will give you an order of free gyoza for free! The interface of the website makes it really easy to order and pick up. I love getting the Sakura roll there. It's delicious and only 7 dollars!!! On top of that, each person who orders gets a complimentary side of miso soup. Some other rolls I really enjoy/recommend is the spider roll and the scallop volcano roll. I really enjoy those. During this pandemic they are allowing dine in with masks. I haven't experienced it yet so I can't comment on that... but the curb side pick up is very quick and easy. Truly delicious sushi! I don't think I can go back to other sushi restaurants in El Paso since coming here. Complimentary gyoza (wow!), miso soup, and salad was given to all 5 of us at the table! Every sushi roll was scrumptious and presented beautifully. I listened to Yelp reviews and tried the salmon nigiri because it is supposedly buttery and amazing! Here's the thing though: out of the two pieces, one was perfect, and the other one tasted...frosty! It was like biting into an improperly thawed fish with bits of ice inside. I know, I know, in El Paso this salmon simply cannot be expected to come right out of water onto my plate. But I was really hoping that the methods to defrost were standardized so that I could have avoided that unpleasant experience! On the bright side, the lemon roll was my favorite, and it had thick slices of salmon on top that tasted great! Together, our table mixed and matched different rolls and in total I paid $15 for a really filling and delicious dinner. The next time I'm craving sushi, I know where I'm headed! read more

Visiting out of town, my siblings and I were craving sushi and we found The Sushi Place not face from where we were staying. Upon walking in from the heat outside, our server was very patient in giving us some time to cool off and take our time in looking at the menu. After placing our order, I believe the cook came out and served us dumplings on the house. The dumplings were just the right crispiness and paired well with the sauce. We ordered several combo plates, which came with either soup or salad. One thing to noticed of all the sushi places I have been to, the salads is usually drenched in what they call a ginger dressing, which is basically thousand island with a bit of ginger in it. The salad that was served to me was much different and I liked it so much more! What was different about this salad is that it was lightly tossed in the house dressing and it was so much more refreshing and tasty. The sushi came out and it hit just the spot! OMG IS THIS PLACE AWESOME! Great small spot with a wonderful atmosphere, the sushi itself was inexpensive and great! They serve their tea in those little pots which to me is just crazy awesome and really helps set the mood for some good ol sushi eating. The one thing that caught both our eyes and our tastebuds was the Calamari, instead of seeing the usual rounds mixed with herbs, out came this awesome looking tower of Calamari strips that were amazingly and lightly seasoned and fried. You walk into this dimly lit, tranquil restaurant and you get to try one of the better sushi restaurants in El Paso! What I've noticed about El Paso sushi is that it's either really overpriced if it's good, or horribly bad if it's decently priced. Sushi garden has decent sushi for decent prices, so that's a win in my book! I ordered the sushi B combo, which included 8 pieces of California roll, 8 nigiri (2 of each tuna, salmon, albacore, and shrimp), side salad, and a miso soup. This was all for $14.95, which is really cheap given that 2 nigiris run between $4-$6 at this restaurant. It's a good combo if you're in the mood for some raw fish and a good old California roll like me (I know it ain't sushi, but it's nostalgic ok). The tuna was my least favorite because it had a fishier aftertaste, which indicates that it wasn't the freshest. The salmon was better and had a good flavor, but it was a little chewier and more fibrous than I'd like it to be (not necessarily "tough", but not as melt-in-your-mouth as I'd wanted it). The shrimp was good because you can't go wrong with that. My favorite was probably the albacore because it was seared and had a nice peppery flavor to it. The California rolls were great because it had a good crab filling to rice ratio - the rice was a very thin layer, so it made the actual fillings pop out more. Overall, I'd come back here to try the other nigiri or other rolls on a different day. I can see myself coming here for California rolls when I crave 'em. read more

We were immediately seated and I had ordered the 12 piece sashimi while the bf ordered a katsu bento. I had asked the waiter if they had chirashi but I don't think he knew what it was and he didn't bother to ask the sushi chefs. He kept telling me they have nigiri. I kept trying to explain it to him and was hinting if he could ask the sushi chefs but he just seemed tired and done for the day. So I just stuck with the sashimi. So service was sub par. We were both served miso soup with our meals and I must say they must have skipped on the miso part bc that soup was super watery. I've had watery miso soup but this was on a another level of watery. Luckily the sashimi was a little better. They served 4 giant pieces each of tuna, salmon, and hamachi. Definitely not the best tasting sashimi, but for El Paso it's alright. The tuna and hamachi didn't have much flavor but the salmon was buttery. The pieces were so huge that I couldn't even finish all of it!! My bf liked his Katsu as well, he didn't say it was his favorite place for katsu but definitely good. Overall the experience was decent and the prices were good. been a couple years since i had my last 5 star experience.. price point is lower than other sushi places, yet the fish quality is quite decent and they don't skimp on the portion. I had my order to go and they boxed each roll separately. Loved that the sushi chef put a good amount of wasabi and ginger in each box. When I ordered they asked me how many miso soups and salads I wanted. These are complimentary and I assume they allow one of each per roll or dish. Love their salad dressing it's like a sesame mustard type. All these little details added up for a really pleasant encounter. The service was super welcoming. Standard military discount. Sushi Garden if probably the best in the El Paso area. The prices are reasonable, the quality is impressive for not being near the ocean, and the place itself is clean/nice. I haven't been to too many other sushi places in the area, but so far this place has risen to the top. I've been doing my meditation on the meaning of sushi and I've had the epiphany that this spot is 5 star worthy after all! Second visit here and still got complimentary soup, salad, and gyozas. Love it. I ventured out and tried the infamous lemon roll and good lord was it delightful! It was everything i hoped it would be. Just fresh tasting with just the right balance of flavors. And its a huge roll for only 9$! I also tried the Alaskan roll... THAT is the right way to bake a roll! I love how they didnt over dress it with the sauce its baked in. Too much sauce always makes me sick. Presentation is always great. Love how they use leaves to place their sushi on. The inside is cozy with just the right level of music. I have stopped in this plaza before when the Indian restaurant, Chutney's, was open. There were other establishments in the space and I had seen the sign for the Sushi Garden but had not come in. If you are reading this and have not stopped in yet, don't let the exterior deter you. I had a grueling day at work and I just wanted take out. I had read some of the reviews on Yelp for Sushi places and this one seemed like a winner, so I ordered ahead and went in. I stepped into a totally unexpected space. It was comfortably cool, dimly lit with scattered decor string lights, and great music playing. The last time I was in a restaurant that had this type of vibe was in D.C.! I was greeted immediately and the waiter was so friendly and courteous. My food came out and I was on my way home. I opened my bag and found a container of a cup portion of soup and my bento #21 with pork. It box was big and had a lot of food in it! The pork was delicious, the 5 piece Cali roll was soooo good. My wife and I stopped in unexpectedly when I miss-navigated us trying to go to another good Japanese restaurant in town. I was impressed fully. There was ambient soft jazz playing in the back ground. The place was about 70% full, a good sign for Thursday mid-day. Service was excellent and food tasted good. I ordered the Seaweed Salad (excellent) and the Chicken Teriyaki bowl (pretty good, and hearty). The teriyaki chicken came with a little salad and 2 pieces of California roll, there was also miso soup. My wife ordered 2 sushi rolls which were fine, and she also got soup and salad. What really blew me away was the 2 plates of complementary gyoza we received during our meal (4 per plate). I thought it was a little above and beyond. The entire place was well staffed and well managed. It was clean, in a way that makes you know the staff actually wipes surfaces and doesn't only do the mandatory daily floor mop. The sushi chefs behind the counter clearly cared about their profession. Our waiter, a young man from Venezuela, was polite and perfect. We had a satisfying Japanese feast for about $31. Well worth it, I can't remember the last time if ever, that I wrote a Yelp review, but my wife and I thought that Sushi Garden fully earned it. read more

Was craving for some sushi and saw that this place had a 4.5 star so I figured why not. Should have checked the menu before diving in. Would have given this place a 3 star... but honestly the food is good enough. But does not live up to the sushi standard. First, the menu is pretty limited. I felt like everything was just California rolls and stuff on top. And the one salmon dish they had was Alaska roll (I love salmon). So to my surprise when the dish came out, it was baked (and they also forgot the order, which was fine; it happens -all other dishes came out okay). Alaska roll...at least in California, doesn't come out baked and plus it wasn't in the description. But still tasted good. Not authentic. So sad that the next day, I went to look for another place. The service was excellent though and they even gave us gyoza on the house. Food taste good. But if it's the taste of sushi from California, this isn't the place. read more

Didn't feel this place was good at all. Miso soup bland almost no sodium it seemed. Nigiri tuna, and Albacore really bad, metallic Tuna and Butane tasting Albacore. Eel roll just too mushy and a bit sweet for my taste. Couldn't eat the Lemon roll after tasting the tuna nigiri. I am a huge fan of raw fish / more authentic sushi and not a lot of rolls without the crab mix (didn't care for that either) and fried additions. Maybe good if you stay away from raw fish. read more

For months I have been trying to look for a descent place for sushi since my usual place closed. I even learned how to make sushi myself out of depression ! But then... the sun started to shine and it melted the clouds away... This place.... oh this place is amazing, I have found my sushi paradise. It simple, it's super casual, it's super affordable and it's A M A Z I N G... I visit this place once a week, all their rolls are super good... my personal favorites are: Philadelphia roll Miners roll If you are hesitant about this place, don't...just go.. you will see. The fish was fresh for sure. We were a little disappointed. They were out of any form of hot tea. They also didn't have any of the little bowls to make the soy sauce and wasabi combination. When we asked, the waiter replied that they kept walking off so they haven't replaced them. We did improvise and use a smallish bowl that a different sauce came in. After ordering I was brought complimentary miso soup and salad, which was good. I have had better miso soup,but it was decent. The salad and dressing were also good, but the dressing is a wasabi dressing and I don't like wasabi. It was really good though. If I couldn't taste the wasabi I would have liked it. Next they brought out complimentary gyoza. They were excellent and the dipping sauce was awesome. I ordered the Volcano roll and the Spider roll. The Spider roll came out 1st and it was amazing! It was a little annoying because the Volcano roll took forever and I had finished the Spider roll. I would have liked to eat them together. The menu does not tell you, but the Volcano roll is super hot!!! I realize it is called Volcano, but the description doesn't mention that they put straight chili paste ALL over the top. That is an important detail. I flipped the roll over to get most of the chili off. It was still a really good roll. I did not receive complimentary mochi ice cream as others have.
