    Chicken Karaage

Great weather is just around the corner. As you go on a shopping marathon at Tsawwassen Mills or back from Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal after a scenic stroll out on the island, check this place out for a yummy and satisfying meal. A celebration of freshness and lightness is beautifully encapsulated in their food. Once your appetite is enticed by the tangy sauce on their arugula tuna roll and the spicy chili kick on the salmon oshi sushi, prepare yourself to savour the freshness and gentle umami from their chef's choice nigiri and premium assorted sashimi platters. An assortment of crispy tempura and juicy chicken karaage also awaits you to enjoy a change in textures and flavours to wrap up this feast.

Do not be deceived by the presentation or the photos! Rolls looked fancy but tasted less than mediocre. The price did not match the quality of the food. The hotate nigiri was very fishy and lacked any sweetness. /: The sushi rice did not have the correct sugar to vinegar ratio... Assorted sashimi was the only highlight to the food. Their interior was very well designed and renovated !

Horrible service disgusting food stay away all refrozen junk. Food came out cold and was way over priced.

WOW. 'Nuff said…read more The real question here is what did I NOT love about Akari? I was in the area with a friend and since I'm not too familiar with the sushi options in this area, I hopped on Yelp and Akari was the first one listed. After looking through their menu, we popped on over. They have officially re-opened for dine in, which is what we did. The tables have all been spaced to respect social distancing, there is a takeout/pick up area towards the front, and all the staff are wearing masks. They have an assortment of specialty rolls, nigiris, and other Japanese dishes on their menu. Honestly, everything looked delicious; I had such a hard time deciding what to get! I decided to go for the yam crunch roll (prawn, yam, tempura, cucumber, avocado, topped with yam tempura, sprinkled with spicy flakes) and hot night roll (prawn, yam tempura, avocado, cucumber topped with spicy tuna & tobiko). I LOVED both rolls so much. Each bite was jam packed with spice, sauce, and flavour. The rolls were only around $11-$13, which for what we got is extremely affordable. Rolls this size are usually $15+ at other restaurants. Between the prices, sushi quality, and friendly and great service, this place is one of my new favourite sushi spots. There's a reason that they've been voted best Japanese restaurant in this area. Definitely worth the trip out here. If you live in this area and have never been here - well here's your new neighbourhood sushi spot! Thanks for the awesome dining experience, Akari!

The ambiance felt warm and well organized with comfortable seating and a nice setup that made it a pleasant place to relax and enjoy a meal. The food was good as well. I especially loved the mango avocado tempura rolls because they were light, crispy, and refreshing. The miso soup tasted comforting and flavorful, and the beef tataki bowl was also good. We ended up ordering quite a bit of food along with some sake and everything was served nicely. The only thing I did not enjoy as much was the veggie gyoza because the filling tasted a bit unusual to me. Overall, we had a pleasant experience dining here. It is very important for restaurants to maintain genuine pricing while continuing to serve quality food that makes customers want to come back again, and I hope they continue to maintain both their pricing and quality.

We were arriving on a ferry at about 730 at night on a Tuesday, and looking for somewhere close to…read morethe ferry terminal in Tsawwassen to grab something to eat. Searching on yelp for options, we found this little Japanese restaurant only 5-10 minutes away from the ferry terminal. It was nice to see that it was open later, I think until 930 and the restaurant itself is very welcoming and nice. We were quickly seated and all got menus for all four of us. The food options are great, I think I could tell that there was a strong Korean influence as there was Kim Chi, fried rice and a number of other Korean influenced options. We ordered quickly, including some edamame and spring rolls and everything. It came out fast and hot. The server was friendly. The place was nice. The seating was comfortable. The price was reasonable and can highly recommend you stop here. As a coincidence leaving out of the parking lot you can exit through the Tim Hortons and grab a coffee and a chocolate dipped doughnut to go.

The staffs/owner were very friendly and made great recommendations. Had the hamachi carpaccio, so refreshing and appetizing. The homemade ponzu (lemony) sauce has a nice finish with thin sliced onions and veggies. The Engawa Arburi nigiri was recommended, and it was phenomenal. It is the 'fin edge' of flounder. Super delicate, with seared (arburi) flavor and melts in your mouth. Yum! The other highlight was the Wagyu beef cubes severed on stick. Two skewers 4 cubes each. The Wagyu was perfectly cooked. It melts in your mouth with every bite. We also enjoyed the 7 piece Omakase sushi set. The fish was very fresh and satiating. Love the lotus root chips garnishing. We loved everything we had but would likely skip the Omakase appetizer Platter. Perhaps we were spoiled by the hamachi carpaccio appetizer. We still enjoyed it but For the same price, we would prefer the sushi set. It had 9 small plates in a beautiful serving box including- tiny sashimi cube of salmon, tuna, tamago, and my fav is the komochi nishin (herring fillets ("Nishin") layered over a base of crunchy capelin roe), also included in the tiny plates of apps were, chicken karaage, baby taco, sliced taco, taco in red sauce, and seaweed salad. We look forward to be back!!!!!

We sat in a separate section of the restaurant with 3 tables at the front. We ordered chicken wings, assorted tempura, miso black cod and an order of beef teriyaki that was not on the menu. The servings are very small for the prices charged. We found that the chicken wings (only 4 small wings) $9.50 were a bit dry. The tempura batter was not as crisp or crunchy as we've had. The miso black cod was a very small portion - maybe 4 oz. for $18.00. We did not feel that there was value for the money. The food was average and the prices were too high for the quality and amount of food received. We did not enjoy the anime that was playing and we were glad that we were not sitting in the main dining room. Overall, we feel that there are better options for a Japanese meal.
