There aren't many choices for sushi in North Delta / Surrey. Me and my friend were craving for some Japanese cuisine and passed by Sunshine Hills Centre located on the northwest corner of 120th Street (Scott Road) & 64th Avenue and decided to give Sushi Wara a try. The place looks spacious on the outside as it shares the building and is adjacent joining to the Browns Social House. But once inside you realize it's pretty small with only 6 dine in tables and more suitable as a takeout joint. We wanted to keep it simple and ordered a Sashimi Box and a Karaage Don. The Karaage Don's chicken didn't taste like it had really any solid chicken pieces in it and just comprised of mushed up pieces of chicken parts. Furthermore, it was paired up with a honey mustard sauce on the side which was odd and did not compliment the dish well, definitely had better. The Sashimi Box's contents were pretty big portions, but the Tuna Sashimi was not thawed properly before being served and it had a really strong fishy smell to it. At $26.95, it's overpriced by around $4.00 compared to it's competitors around town in addition to the subpar quality was a real downer. We stopped by over the weekend for lunch. We were seated right away. Two cups of tea and menus were dropped off. The menu offered some interesting options. We ended up ordering tempura udon, chopped scallop roll, assorted sashimi, salmon aburi flower, aburi toro sushi and aburi hotate sushi. The restaurant seemed to be set up mainly for take out. We did receive our food after a short wait. However, we had to ask our server to refill tea, to ask for water for our child and to ask for our bill. It seems like our server did not consider our child to be a customer or is not used to serving young families. The food was presented nicely and sashimi was fresh. I liked the variety of sashimi that was offered. The aburi sushi and salmon flower aburi were my favourite. I like the extra texture and flavour added in the flame seared process. There was a decent selection of tempura in the tempura udon. The udon had a good chew. The broth was lightly salted. The most unforgettable was the chopped scallop roll. It was alright. I was too full eating everything else to really appreciate this roll. read more

Surrey doesn't have a lot of good sushi places and we (B, J and I) are very skeptical about ordering sushi in Surrey. During the pandemic, we don't have much choice. especially we are craving for sushi at the moment. So what are the options??? We ordered off of Skips. J had tried all sushi places other than Sushi Wara on Skip. We think its new on Skip... Maybe?? Also if you order more than $30, its free delivery. Well we googled and looked at the reviews on Yelp. It looked promising. We decide to order a platter (FAMILY C ( 3~4) 33pcs + 20pcs) to share (for the three of us). I got ebi sunomono, J got beef teriyaki and B got the gomaae as appetizer. There were lots of ebi/shrimps in my ebi sunomo. I asked more vinegar juice and was surprised they gave me extra. The sushi were very tasty. The platter was very filling and with the three of us, we managed to finish it all. Good food and on time delivery. Not bad. Five seniors had dinner here last night at the recommendation of a friend who was not able to join us. He told us that the current owners are the third owners, who have restored the restaurant's excellent credentials. This place is small (six or so tables?), is mostly for take-out, and we were concerned we would not get in around 7pm on Friday night, but we were the only eat-in customers until just before we left, when another table was occupied. There were several orders waiting for pick-up. We all were happy with our choices. I had the Spicy tuna delight appetizer - Tuna, avocado, crab meat, green onion, yam tempura with spicy mayo. I think there was not avocado, but the portion was so large, attractive and tasty that it totally surpassed my expectations. I also had a salmon nigiri that was local free-run (I forget the term). My friends were pleased with their dinner boxes, teriyakis and sushi combo with black rice. The server was very attentive, and when we paid with credit cards, she stepped noticeably away from the table when we were paying, but came right back to help one person who was having trouble. read more

Ordered delivery through Uber Eats, everything was fresh and tasty! We ordered a Yummy Yam Tempura Roll, Yaki Udon Chicken, and the Chicken Dinner box. It was also delivered pretty quick so the tempura wasn't soggy, which is nice. The portions were decent as well. I think we were missing the bit of rice that was supposed to come with the dinner box, but no biggie. read more

We were looking for a good sushi place for a while now. Spontaneously decided to try sushi wara. The place is tucked inside so could be difficult to find. The restaurants parking is limited but you could park in the shopping mall parking and walk about 2 mins to the restaurant. As you enter , the smell of soy, salmon hits your senses! We were seated promptly and were given menus with a smile. We ordered chicken teriyaki don for my 3 year old and he loved it! Crispy chicken in teriyaki sauce on a bed of rice was amazin Sake(salmon) nigri was not my taste. The salmon was fresh and tasty but too big for a one bite nigri. I had to gulp it down with water. The Indian Delight with crabmeat was to die for. Crispy on the outside and so so delicate in the inside. Same with popcorn roll. The panko coated prawns were melt in the mouth! Caterpillar is eel sushi roll but didn't taste too strong(which can get repulsive). This was very tasty and left us asking for more! The staff however needs to be more attentive and can smile at times. We had to go fetch someone to give a second order and refill water. Overall experience was amazing and we will definitely be going back again. Highly recommended for People who want to try sushi for the first time you will always go back for more! We had a quick late lunch meeting and it was 2:30. I am aware lunch ends at 3 So was hesitant but we asked if we could do the lunch bento combo and the front man making sushi said not a problem. We ordered 2 chicken and 1 salmon box and everything was ok until the waitress with curly hair and red glasses started getting snappy. I asked her for tea and 15 minutes passed and only one other table of 1 persons so there is no excuse? If it's busy we totally get it but everyone that was staffed there was either on their phones or talking amongst each other. Why it became 1 star is because when we received the bill, the idiotic waitress charged us for dinner bento prices because we showed up 30 minutes before lunch was over. Does that make sense? No. Is that right to just stiff someone with a bill with out proper notifications? No. The dinner special is larger than the lunch so all I can say is no bueno and we won't be coming back here anymore unless the staff is sorted out. read more

Was coming back from the states and was feeling hungry. Wasn't sure what to have at first but remember this place. The service and food are great. Their specialty rolls change from time to time and this time they had an aburi salmon awesome roll. I ordered that to try, but also ordered spicy agedashi tofu and spinach gomae. The roll was good but was a bit heavy with the sauce. If it had a little less sauce, you'll be able to taste the rest of the ingredients. I would come here again, if i'm in the area. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE. As I was finishing the salad that came with our sushi roll, I found a LIVE green caterpillar squirming under the greens. I wanted to throw up. We immediately flagged our server down and showed her what we found. She went back to the kitchen and I could hear her telling the kitchen what had happened. She came back and half heartedly apologized and said she would take the roll off our bill and give us 10% off. I'm disappointed with the way they handled the situation. They didn't seem genuinely concerned or sorry. It was cr*ap service. The food here is "Ok". Kami Sushi and Akari a street down is 100x better than this place. Save your money and avoid eating here. I found this resto by Yelp and it was very impressive. Everything was delicious and freshly made. Plus the presentation was good too. I got Wara Chicken bento($12.50) and my buddy got Tuna Tataki ($12.95) and they were so delicious. Loved everything on my food and didn't know my food comes with Edamame along with Miso soup and salad. Tempuras were hot and crispy. Miso soup waa delicious and it was mildest one I ever had. Salad was amazing, the beet dressing was home made which tasted tart, sweet and delicious. Portion was big guaranteed to make myself full. I took some leftover at the end of the meal. Service was fast. We both noticed that the waitress looked so tired needing beauty sleep. Sushi Wara is definetely worth the visit if you live nearby. read more

This place is incredible. Every special roll is truly a treat. I've not been disappointed ever here and without question this is our go-to sushi place. The first time I came here, I would have like to seen my reaction ... I think my eyes bulged out of my head when the order of Porcorn Shrump Roll came to my table... It's off the charts! Not too busy inside, which is good because there is only one server who is occasionally assisted by a cook/server/do everything (?) person. Their take out business is very popular! The phone was ringing often and customers were coming and going for pick up. We ordered: Gekkeikan Miso soup Ebi sunomono Vegetable sunomono Tuna and salmon sashimi Spicy agedashi tofu Negitoro roll Alaska roll Spicy tuna tempura roll Tamago nigiri Everything was excellent! My husband thought the rolls lacked flavour and were "watery" but I didn't share his opinion. It wasn't mind blowing good, but it was fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced. The food was very enjoyable id like to point out. But when I placed the order for take out the server was really rude. I ordered a couple appetizers and my husbands meal. When I ordered my roll I asked if there was anyway to keep the spicy tuna that is supposed to be on the roll separate or removed completely. The server began to question my decision saying I am wasting my money. So I said okay can I have it on the side? She again laughed and said the presentation would be ugly with an attitude. I explained to her I am pregnant and I choose not to eat raw fish during this time. I think the staff need to learn customer service. I was very polite to her from the beginning. I think this place is under new management as of earlier this year. The lunch and dinner boxes are quite generous in size and the quality is good, and service was friendly and efficient. There are so many small sushi restaurants that you can try, but what makes this one different is their quality. You can always use another place to go to where you know the food is really great! I'm quite picky when it comes to the quality of my sashimi and this restaurant passed with flying colors. The salmon sashimi is specially great. Soft like butter, the right amount of cold, served on a small pile of shredded ice to keep it cool. Great texture, fat, and sliced perfectly (how it's sliced makes a difference). It tastes amazing. They have many other dishes that you can try and rave about, but when I go to these places I'm interested in one thing: their raw dishes. I tried my three main fishes: Salmon, Tuna and Chopped scallop. All passed with flying colors. This is a great restaurant to add to your list of great places to go to or take a date. There is nothing like impressing the girl when you take her to a place that serves great food without breaking your wallet. Came here for lunch for the first time and have to say that the lunch bento's are great. Ordered the chicken bentall and it came with miso soup, assorted tempura, California roll, chicken teriyaki with vegetables and salad. I have to say that the chicken teriyaki was grilled nicely and you could taste the char from the grill. What impressed me was that they allowed me to substitute my California roll for another type of roll on the menu and only paid the difference. This small sushi joint has some good variety of specialty rolls (we like their lobster rolls) and has wild sockeye salmon sashimi (a must in our books!). We chose the wrong stuff to order. Well, partially at least. The salmon sashimi (7 piece) was great. Buttery smooth of the expected level and fresh enough. The oyster motoyaki wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either. It's a pretty small portion but it's fine. The oysters are pretty well minced so unsure whether it's freshly shucked or otherwise. That being said, my fail was in ordering the Oyako Donburi. My mom's came first but she said it's wayyy too salty. I asked them to save some salt on the second bowl while I took over my mom's bowl - they were happy to accommodate. After forcing it down (my mom got hers to go after a few bites of the second 'less salt' version), I have to say that was a weird bowl. It's like chunks of chicken and a fried egg on top of excellent chewy vermicelli - which sounds great. Then there's this layer of pineapple choy suey that messes the whole thing up on top of the rice. I'm not sure why it's so sweet... it's like pineapple juice with green peppers mixed with all that... Just don't order the Oyako Donburi if pineapple chop suey isn't your thing. Their green tea is amazing though. Whatever they use to make their green tea was great. Lovely tea. Should have gotten the tempura, more sashimi, and chicken karaage instead. read more

This was the best sushi restaurant in Delta, ate here a few times a month. Always busy and lots of people getting to go orders. Walked in a few weeks ago and the place was hardly busy, new ownership. Food was okay, husband had bones in his salmon sashimi. I gave it another chance yesterday when I got an order to go. Restaurant at 5:00 on a Sunday did not one person eating in the restaurant. Bad sign! The food is now like a food court sushi place, bland overcooked rice, my rainbow roll, which use to have a wasabi mayo on it, now had a brown, sweet sauce on it.
